home. don't come to the beaches of pacifica if you don't live within five miles. hundreds of people were ordered off the beaches and some given verben warnings for violating shelter-in-place orders just last weekend. the number of people being hospitalized and those being treated in the intensive care units. both of those numbers beginning to see a decrease across the state of california. hopefully stay that way as we get out and about and enjoy what should definitely be a gorgeous weekend. we're live this morning, i'm julian glover. happening now, final preparations under way in san francisco a major construction project along highway 101 that has been rescheduled because of shelter-in-place. it crosses interstate 280 and since so many working from home, lighter traffic is allowing cal trans to speed up the rebuilding of the overpass. cal trans biggest project of the year was set for july but officials moved up the project

eliminating what was expected to be six-mile backups in both directions on highway 101. crews will be replacing the deck of the bridge. this is a major project. the main part of the project begins today at 6:00 a.m. happening today santa clara county leaders will update their efforts to fight the coronavirus. more than 1,800 confirmed cases with a death toll of over 60. sarah cody says one goal is to expand contact tracing. >> the idea is that we dial it down enough such that we can investigate every case that is reported to us and every contact and that we can ensure that every case can isolate safely. >> dr. cody says the county is figuring out how to increase its investigation staff to interview covid-19 patients and find people they have been in contact with. some states are taking a big step forward to reopen their economies. jobina fortson at the live desk

with the businesses y. jobina? >> thank you, kumasi. good morning. georgia is taking the biggest plunge despite reporting 400 new cases of coronavirus just this week. the governor is allowing places like nail salons, hair salons, gyms, tattoo parlors and bowling alleys to reopen. business owners say they're taking extra safety precautions for social distancing, but not everyone is convinced that georgia is ready. president trump thinks georgia's governor is moving too quickly. >> i said, you do what you think is best. but if you ask me am i happy about it? i'm not happy about it. >> other states are making moves to reopen, oklahoma is allowing hair salons and spas to operate starting today. tennessee plans to start letting restaurants and retail stores open next week. kumasi, i'll send it back over to you. >> thank you, jobina. president trump is expected to sign a fourth economic stimulus package this morning at

the white house. members of the house wore masks and dwluvs as they approved the $484 billion relief package. it includes money for hospitals and testing and also replenishes funding for the paycheck protection program for small businesses. the bill does not include money for state governments, though. governor newsom says despite some pressure to start reopening our state, now is not the time to do it. he says we can't let our guard down. >> there is deep desire and people are making calls on an hourly base saying it is time to open back up. consider the deadliest day in california in the last 24 hours. 8.5% increase in the total number of deaths. we saw 5.6% increase in the total number of people tested positive in the state of california. >> john hopkins reports 1,419 people have died here in california. there are more than 37,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus. on the positive side, though, we are seeing a modest drop in

hospitalizations and people being admitted to the icu. we, testing san francisco's mission district which has the highest number of coronavirus cases. right now san francisco has 26 testing sites which is far below what is necessary to start thinking about reopening the city. >> covid-19 testing sites throughout san francisco are collecting about 500 samples a day even though labs throughout the city are ready to analyze more than 4,000 a day. so, where's the disconnect? the city says the lack of supplies and swab testing kits have been a challenge. >> but we're moving towards that as we expand our capability, expand our testing site and expand our supply chain to make sure we have all the materials we need. >> reporter: those with symptoms in close contact with someone infected continue to be tested for free. added to that list will be communities with barriers to health care. that's why this weekend ucsf will begin testing residents of

we have a guide to testing on our website. the bay area's early intervention likely saved tens of thousands of lives. dr. george rutherford sold the "san francisco chronicle" an estimated 34,000 lives would have been lost if the bay area had done nuthing to confront this pandemic. those figures are based on the cdc's early estimates on what the mortality rate would have been with no social distancing measures. today is day two of the nfl draft. commissioner roger goodell as well as the coaches and the players are doing the draft from their houses because of covid-19. on day one the niners filled needs with their two picks picking kenlaw and they also traded up to number 25 to choose wide receiver brandon aiyuk and both of them are thrilled to be niners. >> look at how they play.

we made it to friday, kumasi. oh, my goodness. seems like a long week. hopefully it wasn't for you. let's talk about what is going to happen. the bay view and we've got some clouds along the coast, those won't last long today and temperur 50s everywhere. american canyon 46 and right now in pittsburg, 63 and tracy 67 degrees already. here's a look at emeryville where temperatures are in the mid 50s and then we have that fog at the coast and otherwise for our essential workers, the commute is going to be pretty quiet today. let's talk about some neighborhood temperatures and i bet you're going to see a lot of people walking around today. make sure you have the sun screen and you want to dress for the warmth. especially east bay valleys. by noon we're already 80 and hang out in the mid 80s for several hours this afternoon. still 79 degrees at 7:00. did you see the high clouds? could be a gorgeous, very colorful sunset. we'd love to see it if you're

maintain the health and well being of the society. islamic council does not see this as religious freedom we see this as an issue of safety and well being. this is at matter of life and death. >> 92 mosques in the bay area have been closed since march 12th. google has donated 49,000 badly needed face shields to south bay health care workers that are caring for covid-19 patients. employees worked around the clock and they will be used at hospitals, clinics, nursing fac facilities and health care centers. one woman is giving people an escape doing it with arts and crafts and supplies fairy magic. dan ashley has those details. >> reporter: a new neighborhood

the north and that will induce some cooler temperatures this weekend and not cold by any stretch. here's a look at your fog forecast and nothing out there. watch the temperatures change color over land as we warm up and as we head to the evening the marine layer clouds already stating to march back towards the coast for their nighttime arrival. 80 to 86 degrees in the south bay with san jose at 83. peninsula 77 to 81. palo alto and redwood city 81 and upper 60s along the coast to mid 70s. 75 in downtown san francisco and everyone else from 80 in san rafael to 88 degrees in calastoga and upper 70s to low 80s and 77 to 82 is your stretch through the east bay and into the east bay valleys 84 to nearly 90 near brentwood. tonight you can see the clouds rolling back and temperatures into the 50s and low pressure
