and a handful of governors are leading the charge on this. on friday we saw georgia reopen barb ships, gyms, nail salons, the list goes on there. this morning in georgia, restaurants will resume dine-in eating. already ease their orders. some businesses reopened today in colorado, arkansas, montana and tennessee. ohio lifts restrictions this week and texas governor greg abbot will announce plans tomorrow for announcing his statewide order. but governors in california and michigan say it's important to stay hunkered down. >> we know no one wants a second wave. it would be devastating for our economy and the state of our economy. we have to be really smart as we reenga reengage. >> we saw the bright weather lead to packed beaches and parks up and down california here in the bay area and santa cruz and in orange county. it will be interesting to see how governor newsom responds to

all of that later on in his press briefing because even in christy field i saw pictures being sent in to me, lots of people out there. >> thank you, jobina. this morning, the number of confirmed coronavirus infections in the bay area is now topping more than 7,600 alameda county reports two more cases overnight. santa clara hit 2,000 cases and now 100 people have died there and that is more than any other county. we're also keeping track of confirmed in lake and mendocino county, lake has six and mendocino 11. amid the coronavirus pandemic, house speaker nancy pelosi has formally endorsed former vice president joe biden for president. biden is the best person to lead out of this crisis. meanwhile, speaker pelosi was on cnn yesterday and talked aon how congress is helping local

governments. >> governor newsom is so spectacular and state and local have done their jobs magnificently and their impatience will help us get an even bigger number and that goes for republican governors, too. governor hogan of maryland has been spectacular in all of this. many governors, many mayors bipartisan for us to get the largest amount. >> congressional democrats have begun to outline their priorities for a new stimulus bill. we have new details at abc7news.com/covidhelp. a complete information source for families, food banks, education and health updates. a member of the vallejo commission seen tossing a cat has resigned. that meeting was held last monday over zoom. he is highlighted here in the video and also heard making

derogatory remarks after the meeting had ended. he told the newspaper in an e-mail he is stepping down immediately. the city council was going to take up a resolution to remove him tomorrow. b.a.r.t. may start handing out masks to riders. the transit agency has ordered more than 300,000 for its employees and once the workers are taken care of then b.a.r.t. will consider distributing those masks to riders. everyone is required to wear face coverings on trains and stations and up to b.a.r.t. police to enforce the rules. well, here's some good news for parents "usa today" reports disposable diapers and shelves are returnig. with the shelves empty, some parents had to turn to cloth diapers. diapermakers have ramped up production but they warned it could be up to six weeks before parents can count on finding the usual range of sizes and brands.

about 48 in lafayette, one of the cool spots. pleasant hill and concord and low to mid 60s places around pittsburg and antioch. already upper 40s in the north bay and low to mid 50s through most of the bay shore and into the coast and south bay. 58 in los gatos and 57 in oakland. emeryville 52 degrees right now. breezy bridges and the san mateo bridge as we head through the afternoon commute and that's when most of this is going to be an issue. breezy on the bay. the san francisco bay this afternoon, also. so, small craft advisory. let's take a look at some temperatures and 51 this morning in the north bay to about 80 this afternoon with high clouds and sunshine. east bay, we'll say same thing. high clouds and sunshine. low 70s for several hours this afternoon and san francisco little bit warmer than yesterday. only 59 yesterday. mid 60s this afternoon. let's get over to jobina for a look at traffic. >> thank you, mike.

good morning, everyone. we do have a couple of crashes out there right now. they're minor at the moment. we also have some construction projects, so, that's what i want to get to thisern moing. happening now, you can expect major changes if you're driving into san francisco as part of your morning commute. right to the camera here. you can see that construction on 101 at alemany circle in the northbound and southbound directions. all lanes are closed. this camera is courtesy of caltrans. here's your live look and here's what you need to know. both northbound and southbound 101 traffic being diverted to 280 and happen until 2:00 a.m. specifically for the southbound lanes and then those lanes will go on to the northbound side and be diverted back on to the southbound side. i know that sounds a little bit confusing, but right now everyone is headed towards 280. southbound drivers will stay on 280 as workers get this all under way. the good news is that it looks like everything is on schedule.

they did demolish the bridge. it is 70 years old. they got everything paved and good to go so that pavement is essentially drying right now. that is where we are. this is cal trans largest project of the year. this was supposed to happen in july, but they are taking advantage of the shelter-in-place order so they can get this done for everybody. you can expect delays i that could mean an increase byin energy bills.. you can save by setting your heat to 68 or lower... unplugging and turning off devices when not in use... or just letting the sun light your home. stay well and keep it golden. accuweather forecast. let's take a look at what is going on in san jose. mostly clear and 53 defrgrees right now. as we take a look at your day planner for today. high clouds and sunshine little more dominant than yesterday and, still, look how quickly we warm into the mid 70s and upper 70s this afternoon, even though a cold front will pass us by to the north and not going to bring us anything in the way of wet weather. windy down in socal, once against. look at all the heat. 104 degrees. can you believe they're dealing with that. we'll heat up, not quite that warm. i'll talk about that coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. this morning san francisco police are investigating in the outer sunset after discovering a man dead inside his apartment. homicide detectives were at the apartment all day yesterday, even as late as last night this is off the great highway. details are pretty limited at this point and police haven't indicated how the man might have

died or if there are any suspects. more concern about the nation's meat supply now that another smithfield food plant has closed because of a coronavirus outbreak. the plant near chicago shut down over the weekend and the family of one employee there said 19 workers are infected. smithfield stopped operations at a second plant in illinois and plants at south dakota, missouri and wisconsin after workers there tested positive. the company is a major meat processor. this morning thousands of high school seniors who are already missing out on their graduation ceremonies are worried they won't get to attend their dream colleges in the fall. this week is decision day. kenneth moton has their stories. >> reporter: with deadline looms, students across the country face uncertain futures. >> is it worth it for me to go to college. >> i know online school doesn't work for me. >> reporter: the coronavirus pandemic canceled the end of

this school year and fears that a second wave could force freshman to stay home in the fall, as well. no dorms, no dining halls, no classmates. >> not even comparable to what a good college experience should be. >> reporter: the uncertainty is driving some students away. some saying they're now fed up with online learning. >> we're now obligated to spend half of our day zooming our teachers. >> reporter: as many as one in six students said they would rather take a so-called gap year to work or travel before they start colleges. colleges bracing for a 15% decline in fall enrollment resulting in an estimated $23 billion in lost revenue. >> it is an unknown about opening in the fall. i think colleges are starting to be transparent that they're talking about it whether it might be online learning or they might not have a fall semester. >> reporter: still, even some students say the fall won't be quite normal, it would be worth

here's a look at san jose where it's 53 degrees. quick warming trend today, tomorrow and lesser extent wednesday. mainly inland for wednesday because the cooling sea breeze begins wednesday and that will cool the coast in parts of the bay. coolest and cloudy this weekend with sprinkles possible sunday. that's what we're led to now that we're looking at may soon is sprinkles. not rain. not heavy rain. sprinkles. all right. 75 to 80 down in the south bay today with 78 in san jose. and near 60 in the sunset and breezy here, also. 66 in downtown san francisco and that's up from the 59 yesterday and you can see 77 and about 82 through the north bay. we'll take a look at the east bay shoreline and 69 in hayward because the breeze is picking up and blowing off the water to 74 in fremont and castro valley and 73 in hercules. as we go into our inland east

bay neighborhood and 79 and san ramon. here's a look at tonight and the clouds a little more prevalent than this morning and we'll hang out mainly in the mid-50s. my accuweather seven-day forecast gets warm and even 80 around the bay and drop down to the 60s at the coast and that's it, that's the last time for the 80s. just 50s, 60s and 70s starting thursday all the way through sunday. kumasi. >> thanks, mike. abc7 is honoring the class of 2020. they had to forego graduation cerem ceremonies and other milestones because of the pandemic. psychology and law and society. and she also played on the women's basketball team all four years and helped them win a championship. jasmine's mom says she's extremely proud of her and as for what is next, jasmine plans to apply for law school.
