housing. >> 269 people have been permanently housed in five weeks. if you think about all of the limitations with covid-19, all of the health risks. and the ways that we're having to come up with new ways to serve people. it's been extraordinary. >> but as orders are extended the need will become more dire. five weeks ago a covid-19 relief fund was launched for people in the county. after three days, 4,600 people had applied. the $11 million in contributions on hand was maxed out with the households. now more than 15,000 have applied for aid. meaning not everyone asking for help will get it. >> we're in the same storm. we're not in the same boat. and need more to help so many struggling. clearly we have a homelessness crisis already. and don't want anymore families in the street. >> a second wave of funding will support families who won't see relief from stimulus,

unemployment or other support. >> new at 11. berkeley heard from a public tonight about a controversial plan to build a massive student housing complex at peoples park. project calls for several high ryes for students and people transitioning out of homelessness. reaction was mixed. many commenters say the university should hold off on the project until the shelter in place is lifted so people with express thoughts and views in person. >> they stress meat will likely not disappear from the supermarket because of the out break. covid-19 has infected hundreds of workers in meatpacker plants. the butcher counter fully stocked. >> we buy local.

the anguish of covid-19 every day. "new york times" reports head of the emergency department at new york allen hospital has died by suicide. the doctor had contracted coronavirus. recovered and gone back to work. tonight a powerful message from her friend. works in the emergency room. listen to what she has to say. >> i'm in san francisco. today is monday, april 27, 2020. and i just finished a shift in the covid-19 zone of our emergency department and i had a really rough weekend. found out that two colleagues of mine, one of them nurses and one doctor i worked with in new york. passed away. and i guess i originally felt sad.

and now i just feel devastated. i don't think that when it comes down to the doctor, i don't think anyone will be talking about it. because if people talk about it, that might make us lose our fight. it might make us lose steam and make us not feel like this is all worth it. if we're losing each other. so i wonder who will be talking about it. but for these people to die would be a sin. in anonymous. this is not what we signed up for. with all these people asking for lock down to end and to just quarantine those who are

vulnerable, what about us? this is not what we signed up for. we signed up to be doctors. we signed up to take care of patients. we didn't sign up for a shortage of ppe. or situations where we couldn't test properly. we didn't sign up for an illness that nobody knows anything about. that doesn't have a vaccine. we didn't sign up for this. so for all the people who are demanding that lock down ends, and to maybe just keep people who are vulnerable captive, to what end will we be doing in? what end will i wear layers and layers of the ppe to the point where we can hardly breathe while i'm working. 2021? we didn't sign up for this. >> if you're struggling with thoughts of suicide or worried about a friend or loved one.

special milestone. a virtual tour of blockly university. >> recreating the entire campus. in mine craft. officially it's called blockly. it's a play on words of berkeley and mine craft blocks. walking around is similar to walking around it in real life. >> it lets us build in 3 d. space. decent likenesses of the buildings on campuses. >> initially we were going to build the stadium. and it kind of tumbled into the entire campus project. >> in a month we built every single building on the entire campus. our goal is using this structure is to host a commencement ceremony on the day ours would have happened. >> especially for the seniors graduating this year.
