today where they will be doing a peace. in-vehicle protest and they will not be getting out of their cars and see exactly what happens there. reporting live this morning, julian glover. >> thank you, julian. happening today, governor newsom's order to hard close all the beaches in orange county will take effect. he announced the beach closures yesterday in response to thousands of people crowding the beaches last weekend there. now, last night the city councils of huntington beach and dana point voted to pursue legal action to block the closure order. >> why this draconian measure to close the beach when we really were doing a good job and we are going to step it up. we saw those people come in and we'll step it in. >> people that were congregating there that weren't practicing social distancing may go back to their community outside of oe o orange county and may not know they contracted the disease and now they put other people at

risk. >> newport beach officials say they plan to increase enforcement this weekend. meanwhile, other states are taking steps to reopen their economies. jobina fortson is at the live desk with restrictions in texas being lifted today. good morning, jobina. >> good morning, kumasi. residents in texas will be able to dine in restaurants. you'll have to have disposable menus and not have condiments unless you request them and no buffets. by the end of the week, 32 states will ease some restrictions and dr. anthony fauci is urging caution this morning. >> you can't leap over things and get into a situation where you're really tempting a rebound. that's the thing i get concerned about. >> some states and cities are heeding his warning. new york city will close subway and commuter trains during the overnight hours starting next week.

stay-at-home orders in michigan have been extended to may 15th. kumasi, back to you. >> thank you, jobina. the head of city planning commission will learn his fate today over a controversial post on facebook. kenneth has gotten quite a bit of criticism after suggesting covid-19 is nature's way of weeding out the old, sick and weak and it can help society as a whole. abc7 news anchor eric thomas spoke with him yesterday and said he doesn't regret putting that idea out there. >> you don't think people would be calling for your head afterwards? >> not calling for my head, no. i got my first death threat today, so i guess i made it big time. >> i saw it and very appalled and then i thought somebody that represents antioch. >> city council member wilson leading the charge for his removal. the city council will meet in special session today for a vote. couples in california can now legally get married

remotely. governor newsom signed an order through video conference instead of in person. zoom weddings earlier this week. in california brides and grooms can get marriage licenses from county clerks as long as both are in the state. the license can then be issued through an e-mail. governor newsom's order is in effect for 60 days. cities in the east bay are moving ahead with plans to get at least some of their homeless out of the streets because of this pandemic and that includes using brand-new trailers from the state. abc7 news reporter laura anthony has that story from alameda. >> i think it folds into a queen size bed. >> i think if we fold this out. >> reporter: these are the finishing touches on four new homes. trailers that will soon house eight people otherwise living on the streets of alameda. >> we have one couple and a father of son who will be moving in for starters. >> reporter: the trailers delivered from the office of

emergency services are one part of alameda's response to the covid-19 crisis for its homeless population. these are not only for the unhoused but for those asymptomatic for coronavirus. >> the goal is to create a space where they can isolate. they're more vulnerable when they're on the street to getting covid so this provides a space for them to isolate safely during covid. >> reporter: in oakland crews have laid the ground work for the dozens of trailers that city received. they are expected to be ready for residents next week. >> when they are on the street, they're oepen to the elements, right. >> reporter: those that work with the bay area homeless population know for every person who gets a spot in one of these trailers. many more still on the streets. >> the mortally rate for homeless on the street is already higher than most, right. then to compound it with the covid-19 virus, i don't think that's something as a community we would want. laura anthony, abc7 news. oakland mayor libby schaff

is asking everyone to give the lake a break. this weekend the mayor is asking everyone to stay away. >> the lake is getting a little crowded and we are not seeing the kind of social distancing that we have got to be practicing while we are still under these health orders. >> this weekend, ambassadors in bright colored shirts will be at the lake to make sure that people are keeping their distance. signs will be up to remind everyone about the shelt ee er shelter-at-home order and schaaf will be at lake merritt handing out masks for everybody. well, in the north bay, sausalito will crack down on nonessential travel and social distancing violations this weekend. this is in response to visitors who crowded the town last weekend. police will issue citations to anybody who is violating the rules and they carry fines of $500. officers will also enforce parking restrictions.

to mid 50s and 48 right now in mountainview and mid to upper 40s in the north bay and we'll cool into the low 40s to low 50s this morning which is significantly cooler than yesterday. you may want to dress a little bit warmer. let's talk about the commute. from emeryville 49 degrees and pretty clear there. in fact, that dry air we talked about yesterday, it's inhibiting any fog formation. the breezes will be back, especially south of the bay bridge as we head into the afternoon hours. here's a look at the north bay and you can see a whole lot of sunshine, passing high cloud from time to time but mainly sunny today with mid 70s this afternoon down to 66, though, if you're heading out this evening. even when the sun is still up at 7:00. east bay 50s through 9:00 and any clouds out there are gone after 9:00 and get near 70 this afternoon. for san francisco, be quite breezy this afternoon. hold us in the mid 60s which is pretty close to average. drop down to 61 at 7:00. take a look at that cooler

you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. we're back and what time is it? is it 4:43. you can see from the exploratorium, it is pretty clear at least on the bay side of san francisco. a few clouds on the ocean side early this morning and they won't last long. some areas in the low 40s up in the north bay valley. and 60s and 70s around the bay and 70s inland as we head towards 7:00 and we have an air quality warning for blowing dust in the san joaquin valley, pretty nasty situation there. and temperatures are taperig a little bit, no more than 100s and mid to upper 70s in san diego and los angeles and looks pretty quiet across the state today. let's get back to kumasi. >> thanks, mike. travelers and visitors are finally getting a chance to see

the new exhibit at sfo. jetblue and southwest airlines moved into the new ticket counters at the renovated terminal one this week. it's now named for milk. the airport was set to open the terminal last month but that was delayed because of the pandemic. major security upgrades and a new baggage system that is only in use at sfo. >> what is great about this, it's a sign that our airport remains open for essential travel and this project is one of those construction projects that we deem as essential to move forward. so, although travel activity remains very light right now, it's good to see a project like this moving forward. >> yeah, that is nice. so, the exhibit that's titled harvey milk messenger of hope it features 43 images and the exhibit is open to the public and in the presecurity area of the terminal. researchers at uc davis are testing a potential vaccine for

coronavirus and it is being developed by verndari. a microneedle to deliver the vaccine. it eliminates the need for it to be refrigerated. if the testing is successful, it could be sent by mail to people sheltering in place and they could administer it themselves. many students across the bay area have been out of school for about six weeks now because of coronavirus. east bay community journalist melissa shows us how an east bay kid is using his free time and tech skills for good. >> this is 9-year-old jaden and he has been hard at work during the shelter-in-place order making 3d face shields for medical front line workers. jaden got into 3d printing at the age of 5 making toys for him and his brother. they came up with the idea to make face shields to protect their family members who are on the front lines of the coronavirus. >> i want to protect them from

getting it so they can take care of the patients. >> reporter: jaden has made 100 3d face shields and doesn't plan on stopping any time soon. >> after i wake up i go downstairs and make some every 1 hour and 45 minutes and i do my homework while i am finiwaiting them to finish. >> it only stop at night when we're sleeping. >> reporter: jaden's father has delivered face shields to five centers in the bay area and to local churches. many nurses have sent jaden selfies showing their gratitude for the face shields. >> he's always very helpful and always want to help out in any way he can. >> reporter: jaden hopes that his story will encourage other kids to give back. >> i hope i can inspire other kids that have 3d printers to make more face shields for our community.

across the north bay and light rain tomorrow afternoon and evening. and then sunday is just going to be cool and breezy before that warming trend. temperatures in the mid to upper 70s in the south bay today. 73 to 78 is your spread. as you head up the peninsula, breezy this afternoon and that will keep us in the upper 60s in places like millbrae and san mateo and low 70s else where. near 60 along the coast and breezy even with sunshine today and you can't warm up much when that wind is coming off a 52 degree ocean. 66 in sausalito and 72 to 78 from san rafael up through say santa rosa and then look at upper 60s around richmond and berkeley and then 70 to 73 for the rest of the east bay and temperatures in the mid 70s to upper 70s in to the east bay counties. tonight, look at the cloud cover out there and milder than this morning and drizzle possible and temperatures in the low to mid to upper 50s.

welcome back, 4:53 on a friday. here's a look at our temperatures tomorrow. 60s more dominant as the 70s will start to fall off the table due to the cold front and extra cloud cover tomorrow and sunday a little more sunshine and inland we may rebound a degree or two, but the breezes will keep us from warming up too much. i wanted to show you thursday. thursday is one of our hottest days and upper a80s to 90 in ou inland neighborhoods and 80s around the bay and i think those temperatures along the coast in san francisco may be a little underdone at 70. definitely going to be warm by thursday. kumasi. >> thanks, mike. look at this, you guys. the light at this dorm at the university of san francisco were lit up in the shape of a heart last night to show support for front line and essential workers. the university said their way to

show gratitude and appreciation to those who are keeping the heart beat of the city alive. love to see that. the university of pennsylvania is doing research to see if dogs can detect coronavirus in people. they enlisted the help of eight dogs and the goal is to see if the dogs could help identify asymptomatic carriers. >> we see the tsa dogs screening people as they walk by for explosives, it would be that kind of a concept. >> preliminary screening could start as early as next month. in the south bay, parents are honoring the class of 2020 making sure their kids do not go unrecognized even though they won't have a formal high school graduation because of the pandemic. look at these decorations. they were created by parents and in the homes in san jose and it also has a strong message for the students who know that they were part of the most unique graduating classes in santa theresa history. >> this group of kids are just so resilient and they really
