six bay area counties kick off the first steps reopening tomorrow. certain outdoor activities allowed but crowds this weekend are showing us what could be signs of more to come. we'll have a full look at the slightly eased restrictions coming tomorrow but first let's get a quick peek at the bay area forecast. here's lisa argen. >> good morning to you. live doppler 7 starting out fog free and cloud free as we look outside. you can see how pretty it is. on our way to a beautiful day. temperatures now 50 san francisco, 59 san jose and gilroy. the winds increasing along the shoreline for the typical sea

breeze. 60s by the delta. we got down to 40 this morning due to the dry northerly air moving in from the -- wind flow from the north. that switches around to an onshore flow for cool temperatures at the coast. but a lot of sunshine by 2:00. we're in the upper 60s to near 70 and warmest locations mid-70s at 4:00. we will talk about much warmer weather headed our way in a few minutes. >> thank you. it's a test tomorrow reopening the bear. restrictions in six counties. the shelter-in-place order extended through may 31 but here's now what will be allowed starting tomorrow. construction, certain outdoor businesses like landscaping and gardening and certain outdoor activities, golf courses can reopen as long as they follow social distancing guidelines. all real estate transactions and residential moves will be allowed to resume.

childcare facility with 12 children or fewer can reopen however at this time they can omak sent children of essential workers. but the nice weather sweecwe've in the bay area, officials say we need to keep it up for as much as possible. for many, it's becoming harder and harder to do. >> are you getting antsy? >> a little bit, yeah. >> reporter: several weeks at home has been a long time for roxanne from oakland and she's not alone. the lake was crowded with people getting sun and exercise saturday. >> the lake is one of the places that counts as a place allowing us to walk a a lot of the parks are closed. >> reporter: last weekend the park looked a lot like pre-covid-19. not much social distancing happening, prompting the mayor to send a warning. >> please, rec create somewhere

else. >> reporter: today police officers were on duty to discourage any large gatherings. despite that, people are saying things are definitely changing. >> a lot more traffic, people walking. >> reporter: on the greens in san francisco, police were handing out mats to those who didn't have one. earlier in the day, the green crowded with people. governor newsom coming closer to a ultimatum friday saying it's being closed but that depends on the p behavior of the public, especially beachgoers in southern california. >> if we have a weekend and i hope we will, where we don't see huge crowds descend, we will be in good position as early as monday, tuesday, to make new announcements and strategies. >> reporter: the mayor tweeting the stay-at-home is still happening and will be enforced. the bay area for the most part is doing its part wearing face covering and staying home to

help flatten the curve of this deadly pandemic. >> without your support and without you adhering to these guidelines, i think we would be in a much worse spot than we are today. >> reporter: six area counties will relax some shelters n place restrictions. landscapers and golf courses will be allowed to operate again. cornell bernard, abc7 news. opposition is going growing in southern california over governor newsom's decision to close orange county beaches. newport city council is voting to double down on support for two other cities challenging the government in court. we saw protesters rallying to order the beaches friday and crowds swarmed the beaches last weekend. this weekend police are patrolling to keep people off the beach. >> we're surf city. it is part of our culture here in huntington beach that people come out to the beach not only to surf but swim. it is difficult for us as officers, residents, all of us. we're asking people be patient

with us. >> a state judge is upholding the beach closures for now but another hearing will take place later this month. and new this morning we are hearing from one family who tried hitting the beach this weekend. they were visiting orange county from phoenix. >> the police were literally chasing me down on the fweexg me i had to get out. i had to leave. it was smikd warning. i was afraid they were going to arrest me so i finally turned around and came back up. >> of course, santa cruz made the move to close beaches from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. after seeing crowds the weekend before. coming to the tests will be allowed in the most dense ploip latly populate the county. people will need to make an appointment first and can do so online. there are at least 239 confirmed

cases of the virus. also tomorrow the san francisco marin food bank is holding a food giveaway to help out neighbors who hit hard times. the pop-up food bank will be open tomorrow and looking for volunteers as well. because ever safety concerns, you will have to reserve a spot to volunteer so just check out the san francisco marin bank's food website to do that. the union is bringing back one route on monday. the n bus will return to partial service as a community shuttle. the route will provide better access to essential trips for oceanview and riverside neighborhoods. it will run from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. take a look at the live look behind me, sfo starting tomorrow you will see major changes when flying due to the widespread coronavirus on airports and planes. as of tomorrow, face masks are required at any bay area airport if you're taking an essential flight. these will include bandannas,

home made masks or nonmedical masks. nearly every major airliner will choir them on board and also for united, delta and jetblue. they are blocking some or all middle row seats for distance. since the number of people has suddenly risen the past couple weeks, southwest are changing the way passengers line up to board. you know how you usually line up in lines of 30 on either sides of the marked poles, now customers will be asked to line up just ten passengers at a time. southwest also stopped serving onboard drinks and snacks. this morning no more summer training crews for students at cal maritime academy. the school, located in vallejo, is choosing to cancel that this year after maybe suggesting it would go on. the school's president released a video message yesterday saying there are too many factors at play including the inability to test cadets before boarding and testing while on the cruise. cal maritime has also been

planning for students to come back to school in person. they got the okay from governor newsom to do so earlier this month but the date keeps getting pushed back. >> we continue to work through our campus wide process for a return to face-to-face instruction. we have not yet reached a decision on a hard restart date as healthy and safe conditions remain uncertain. i know this causes more uncertainty for you and your families. i wish it were easier, but it's not. >> parents we spoke with earlier this week had mixed opinions about their kids returning to classrooms so soon. so a check of the weather with lisa. lisa, going to be chilly again today but still pretty nice out. >> yeah, we had our early morning lows about 6:00 when santa rosa was 40, already climbing 13 from that reading. 53 in santa rosa now. here in san francisco, it's the low 50s. low-to-mid-50s if you're just waking up. gorgeous 60s and 70s on the way.

that could mean an increase byin energy bills.. you can save by setting your heat to 68 or lower... unplugging and turning off devices when not in use... or just letting the sun light your home. stay well and keep it golden. . as local restaurants sink under the pressures of the coronavirus pandemic, there is some sign of hope in terms of maybe lifting or easing some of the orders. governor newsom is saying the state is days, not weeks, away from changing the stay-at-home order. the impacts have already been felt, closing many doors in san francisco, including a location of a popular restaurant chain. abc7 news reporter lauren martinez has that story. >> reporter: hays valley is usually hopping with tourists and hipsters and everybody overpaying for coffee and the whole thing. you saw it, it's all boarded up.

rich lives driktdirectly above ground. they closed this hayes valley location. >> you have the city arts and stores here. when those closed down, so did the customers. >> reporter: and others on fillmore and pacific heights won't turn a profit once restrictions loosen up due to limited seating space and social distancing measure. on fillmore street, 90% of businesses are closed. >> right now there are about over 30 businesses that are boarded up. >> reporter: the film association said businesses with a digital presence before covid-19 had a leg up and those still trying to stay open should adapt to online. >> there needs to be an online shop of some capacity of catering, take-out, delivery, online apps. that's definitely the future. >> reporter: he said businesses need to start opening up but in a safe manner.

>> there are 95,000 businesses in the city. half of them are considered small business. 45,000 businesses employee ten or less employees, and yet they employ 350,000 people in the city. so this is a big part of our community. >> reporter: lauren martinez, abc7 news. and the pandemic is putting a significant strain on the u.s. food distribution system. costco is now limiting how much meat its members can buy. members can only purchase three items from costco's selection of beef, pork and poultry products. certain stores are implementing the same restrictions across the country. be abc news stephanie ramos has more. >> reporter: this morning growing concerns about the nation's food supply as more food plants shut down due to cove. facing poerm shortages, grocery giant kroger tells abc news they're adding purchase limits on ground beef and pork at select stores. some plants like this tyson

undergoing a deep cleaning after hundreds tested positive for covid-19 in neighboring communities. >> the testing of the employees. they're making modifications to the systems that are there to keep people apart. >> reporter: in indiana, just one week after shutting down, another tyson plant set to reopen. tyson releasing a statement saying, while the facility was idled, we added more work station barriers, installed more hand sanitizer dispensers and did additional deep cleaning and sanitation. tis coming after our first glimpse inside one meatpacking plant. workers crowded shoulder to shoulder with masks down at a georgia poultry plant in arkansas last month. georgia's poultry plant since released a statement about upgraded safety measures including temperature checks for employees, face masks are now required and partitions between workers have been installed. labor organizationers fear for the workers' safety.

>> they are just waiting to see when are they going to get sick? >> reporter: according to the cdc, nearly 5,000 meat and poultry workers have been sickened nationwide by covid-19. 20 have died. the pandemic revealing a vulnerability in the food supply. >> when you have a major disruption to the whole system, the system actually isn't built to cope with that. so that's why you see things that should be in supply are out of supply. >> reporter: so many meat plants scrambling to figure out how to stay open and balance safety and economics in order to keep grocers like these stocked. stephanie ramos, abc news, paramus, new jersey. and parts five and six of the docuseries everybody's talking about will be on tonight on our sister network espn. i'm talking about "the last dance." an in depth look at michael jordan's final season with the chicago bulls. tonight's episode will be shown in memory of kobe bryant. according to "l.a. times," it's

better man. espn is report reporting kobe bryant let an all-access film crew document his entire last season, but it remains unclear what will be done with that footage. cana net worth, abc news, los angeles. that episode airs tonight at 6:00 on at 7:00 on espn and espn2. disney, of course, is the parent company of espn and abc7. and now a check with the leather with lisa argen. we were taking a walk and it's nice out there. >> it is. a little cooler out there but that's gotten to be larger up in the north bay where overnight lows were in the mid-30s well up in clearlake. right now rebounding temperatures in the 50s up in the north bay. here's the general flow from west to east. we'll have the onshore flow with us. it will get weaker as the days go on and high pressure builds from the south. today generous with winds up to 20 miles an hour keeping it cool at the coast. here's a look from our east bay

hills camera, nice and blue out there, 52 in san francisco. upper 50s in oakland as well as san jose. 60 in gilroy, mid-50s on the peninsula and half moon bay, beautiful view from santa cruz. fog earlier, but 70 later on today. gorgeous day. it's going to get warmer each and every day starting really the anywayle of the week. 53 santa rosa. mid-50s in napa. mid-60 by the delta and those winds backing off today. yesterday you felt them up in the north bay. it was pretty cloudy. the biggest difference will be in the north bay with brighter conditions and warmer temperatures. if you're by the coast, we're going to get that breeze. golden gate looking for cooler temperatures to start out. sunny and breezy at the shoreline. elsewhere, breeze will pick up throughout the later afternoon and looking at a summer-like sizzle as we get into thursday and friday. here's a look at the temperatures on the peninsula today, from belmont to redwood city to san mateo. 50s out there and low 60s at

11:00, climbing through the upper 60s. that west wind will be with you 15 to 20 miles an hour. clearing tonight and temperatures dropping through the 60s as we get through about 7:00. here's what we have to look forward to. high pressure to the south of us and it's going to stay there. as we get into monday and tuesday, the warming trend comes from that building ridge to the south. we will still have the onshore flow that will bring the sea breeze to the coast. the temperature spread will be much like summer from the 60s to 80s and even 90s as we get towards the later part of the week. mopped noti monday north the oranges. each and every day it will get a little closer. the sea breeze will get a little weaker. it won't disappear though but we will have warmer temperatures everywhere as we get towards tuesday and wednesday. but it's really thursday and friday when it will get hot around here. 68 in fremont, 74 santa rosa, 72

recognizing high school students who are giving up part of their weekend to raise money for the hungry. they kicked off their first-ever rosen one-mile challenge at 9:00 a.m. yesterday. students are walking or running a single mile each other for 24 hours straight. so it seems like maybe they just completed this. the high schoolers are pledging $ $1 for every mile achieved. >> i wanted stay active but do something with my friends but obviously not together in real life. the first time we did it, it was a great success. so i thought it would be a great idea to apply to a charity and try to raise money to donate for a charity. >> 43 kids signed up and doing different things like running with mets, superheroes, and more. so far they raised more than $3,500 for the second harvest food bank. good job, guys. we invite you to go to better br bay area and show us how you're

the weather. >> cool and windy spots that will pick up at the shoreline. low 50s in oakland, 60 in gilroy. from walnut creek, beautiful day. temperatures in the inland valleys near where they should be this time of year, low 70s. cooler 50s situated at the beaches but mid-and-upper 50s in the north bay and 60 in the east bay valley. going through the morning, numbers warming through the 60s by 10:00, 11:00. as get towards 2:00, we have a few 70s. yellows coming into play in our east bay valleys. by 6:00 it's nice and clear but numbers dropping through the 50s. gradual warming trend on the way. we will talk about it coming up. liz? >> sounds good. thank you, lisa. this morning the u.s. obtained a intelligence report that the china hit the coronavirus pandemic from the rest of the world while it stocked up on crucial medical supplies. abc reporter rachel scott has the details. >> reporter: this morning

intelligence officials are accusing china of a coronavirus cover-up. a new report from the department of homeland security obtained by abc news claims the chinese government intentionally concealed the severity of covid-19 in early january. during that time officials say china was also building out its own stockpile of medical supplies. and took steps to protect it. on january 14th, the w.h.o. shared this tweet saying china saw no evidence of human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus. but according to the report, as the countrip got supplies there was a disrupt in the global supply chain for nations that needed the essential items most. homeland security analysis states china produces about 80% of the world's surgical face masks. but 48% fewer were shipped out. gloves with are down 48%. and exported ventilators dropping 45%. president trump, who once

residents packing parks and filling up restaurants. >> time to get back to living, man. we've been living in our homes. >> reporter: with florida boaters back in miami, highways backed up miles to the marinas. but some calling out reckless behavior in the midst of what's still an ongoing pandemic. chicago mayor lori lightfoot declaring ongoing house parties the height of foolishness. >> when you go out and party and go home to your grandmom, or anybody in your household with an underlying medical condition, you're bringing death to their doob step. >> reporter: this weekend warm weather leading thousands to city parks in new york. in response more than 1,000 nypd officers, plus 1,000 more city workers, making sure social distancing was still enforced. that as governor andrew cuomo says his state is undergoing the largest antibody study in the country, testing 15,000 people, showing 12% were likely infected

and recovered. >> we have so much at stake, so many decisions we have to make that we want to get those data points as quickly as we can. >> reporter: and a possible rising sign of hope for treatment. seattle couple josie and george taylor were both hospitalized with the virus and participated in the clinical trial for the drug remdesivir that the national institutes of health say has shown positive results. >> even though we don't know what we got, whether we got the placebo or the remdesivir, we feel like we got the real thing because we got out quickly. >> more than anything, it makes us happy for future use. >> reporter: and in washington, d.c. a sizable crowd gathered, some wearing masks but others not, all turning out at the national mall for another wave of honorary flyovers. the blue angels and thunderbirds saluting health care workers on the frontlines. and as the downward trend of he covid cases continues here in new york, this field hospital set up in central park will be closing down over the next two

weeks. they treated more than 300 covid patients here. the hospital system that runs it says this outbreak is far from over but this is a significant turning point here in new york. trevor alt, abc news, new york. realtors are noticing a new trend coming out of the coronavirus pandemic. city dwellers looking to move to the suburbs for fresh air and a little extra space. >> i have been inside for 48 days now with three little boys. the challenge for me as a parent and for the kids themselves. >> lifelong new yorker chloe davis and her husband could have never imagined leaving the big apple until now. weeks spent inside a cramped two-bedroom apartment home schooling their young sons and caring for their pets changed their perspective. now they want to find a house in the nearby suburbs. experts say the uncertainty of the virus and economy is part of it. >> there's no end in sight. if somebody says this is six weeks and you will be fine, that's a different animal. but what happens when a second

wave comes? >> many cities are seeing a population decline during the pandemic, trend that can forcep deep cuts in tax revenues to police, transit and fire. covid-19 has battled the economy. but one potential investor said there's reason for optimism. >> reporter: with 30 million americans out of work, next week's jobs report may show higher unemployment than the great recession. all kinds of businesses are cutting workers. hospitality, restaurants, retail and travel are the hardest hit. even famed and optimistic investor w investor warren buffett sold all of his holdings in airlines. >> i think they're really hurt by a forced in effect shutdown for events far beyond their control. >> reporter: the pandemic is changing retoo. more than a third of americans

are considering leaving big cities for suburbs. fewer city dwellers feel comfortable in big buildings with shared spaces such as lobbies and elevators. >> i think the children outside, to take them out of the building, are constantly passing people. you have to go in the elevator, laundry room, possibly mail room. we love new york. it's just very densely populated so there are a lot more obstacles just to be safe. >> reporter: one industry expert told us the suburbs will benefit over increased demand over the next two, three years but longer term that trend will reverse. that sentiment echoes buffett, who has seen numerous economic rebounds. >> world war ii i was convinced during the cuban missile crisis and 9/11, the financial crisis, but nothing could basically stop america. still ahead on abc7 mornings, stephen curry motivates the class of 2020 virtually. his message to high school seniors. and here's a live look from

emotion across, even if it was just through the iphone camera. i knew millions were watching on the other side. >> you performed from your backyard. did you have to say nashs, quiet, i got the biggest performance of my life going on. >> it was so fun to be filming "american idol." i never thought i would be filming "american idol" from my own backyard in danville. >> the camera setup, that looked like almost if "american idol" was at your house. how did that work? >> we're working with the "american idol" crew over -- over video, virtual means. i'm not only now a singer, artist and now an engineer and camera person and stage director and designer. it's wearing a lot of hats but it's really fun and i'm just taking it all in and enjoying it. >> what are we going to see on sunday when we watch on abc? >> you guys are going to see the top ten revealed. so they're going to announce who out of that -- these 20

emeryville, temperatures in the city low 50s across the bay. 57, good recovery so far in the north bay, where it was cool. 59, san jose and at the coast mid-50s. norm co another cool day with the onshore flow. clearlake was in the 30s this morning. 60 by the delta. winds are later through the delta and looking at the mid-and-upper 50s in concord. next few days really nice. weak system comes in wednesday allowing for the ridge to not get too strong. but that all changes by thursday and friday. little breeze picking up here, pier nine. looking at the cooler temperatures, sunny and breezy later in the day but that breeze picks up early in the afternoon at the coast and looking at that summer-like spread as we get into the end of the work week. here's a look at the north bay. yesterday you were cool, cloudy, breezy. temperatures much different today as we start out with numbers earlier in the 40s.

we're in the low 70s by the afternoon. nice looking day. in fact we're going to just keep the warming trend just going bit by bit as we get through the first part of the week. beach temperatures showing you this because this is the only day we will see numbers in the 50s. warmer here. we have the onshore flow each and every day but it will be mitigated and kind of cut off slightly. it will be weaker as we go into the latter part of the week. that's when these temperatures climb to near 70. but today looking at a nice afternoon as we get into your wednesday though. yeah, beach temperatures warm up. you can see that here by wednesday. mid-80s inland by thursday. it's well above average. 90s arriving and look for that heat to continue to pull into the bay and move westward to the coast. with the sea breeze, it will get warm but not too warm from half moon bay to pacifica. well into the 70s thursday and friday. today near average in the south bay with 72, santa clara on the

peninsula, sea breeze there. pacifica upper 50s and afternoon breeze keeping low 60s in the forecast downtown. low 70s, big difference for the north bay communities today with the sun and milder weather. 68 in oakland, looking at low-to-mid-70s here. nice afternoon for you in the east bay. the accuweather seven-day forecast then, we're brightening up. little cooler in spots closer to the coast but warmer in the north bay. tomorrow another nice day. just minor warming and for tuesday and wednesday, we're gaining heat for the inland valleys. little around the bay but by the end of the week, high pressure takes old. upper 70s to near 80 around the bay. looks like it will cool off though by next weekend. liz? >> sounds good. thanks, lisa. the san francisco 49ers are helping with education for kids while they're at home. abc's south bay journalist shows
