going to allow businesses to reopen. state data shows neither county has had someone hospitalized with coronavirus since april 14th. modoc reopened friday. neighboring siskiyou county is going 120 take up a plan to reopen on tuesday. in the bay area, san mateo county is taking more measures to keep people from flocking to the coast. the new order prevents people who live more than ten miles away from the county from coming there for recreation. we've seen road signs warning people if they are more than five miles from home to turn around. hundreds of people have been cited for going to the beach in pacifica during the stay-at-home order. now in southern california, police were out in force, keeping people away from the beaches in huntington beach. the governor ordered orange county to shut down its beaches after large crowds were seen last weekend. there were plenty of barricades and signs to keep people away.

huntington beach and newport beach both are planning to take legal action against the governor over the closure. orange county's challenge was rejected by a judge. and in los angeles county, they are not messing around when it comes to keeping people off the beaches. take a look at this show of force by the sheriff's department's parks bureau. deputies are out in malibu patrolling on horseback as well as on atvs. in their post, they included the #safer at home as a way to remind people to follow the shelter-in-place order. an update now on a story we first brought to you on friday. gilead's ceo says the foster city company will start moving remedesavir earlier this week. the drug received emergency authorization from the food and drug administration on friday as a treatment for the coronavirus. gilead's clinical tests showed patients recovering in about 11 days, four days faster than those who got a placebo. the company plans on shipping to cities that are most vulnerable and have highest need. gilead donated 1.5 million

to the government. states are following their own paths as they start to reopen businesses and they go back to work. others are ramping up their efforts to get more protective equipment and increase testing. abc7 news reporter andrew dembert has the story. >> as some americans continue to voice their frustration over stay at home orders, across the country, some states have begun to reopen parks, streets and businesses. mark dewine announcing a phased reopening of his state. retail businesses can reopen on may 11th. and this morning on abc7 ne ini7 this week, he explained why he rescinded the face mask order. >> it was a bridge too far. people were not going to accept the government telling them what to do. >> in texas, the state's second highest day ever. residents still packing parks and restaurants. >> it's time to get back to

abc news officials accusing china of building its own stockpile of medical supplies. according to the report, there was a drop in exports from china. homeland security analysis shows china produces about 80% of the world's surgical face masks, but 48% fewer were shipped out. gloves were down 48% and exported ventilators dropping 45%. chinese officials continue to deny any accusations that they covered up covid-19, saying china, like the rest of the world, a victim of the outbreak and not an accomplicomplicaccom. andrew dembert, abc news, washington. face covers will likely become mandatory for uber drivers and riders. cnn business reports that uber executives approved the new policy this past week. now to ensure the policy is followed, uber is developing technology to detect if drivers are wearing masks or face covers before they go online and start accepting trips. uber is also looking into ways

to hold riders accountable. the requirement is expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks. meantime, a face cover willing also be mandatory at mineta san jose airport starting tomorrow. that includes both employees and travelers. children under six and anyone who has trouble breathing is exempt. the airport will have reminder signs at entrances and throughout terminals. a spokesperson says the airport regularly cleans and disinfects all high-touch surfaces throughout the day, disinfects rest rooms once every two hours and deep cleans public areas each night. face masks are at the center of a cover involving police officers. officers wore the flag-themed covers on friday while responding to a demonstration over the lack of housing. they featured the flag meant to represent law enforcement. the flag became a symbol for counter protests during the black lives matter movement. the chronicle reports that bill scott acknowledged the divisive nature of the flag and is looking to replace those masks.

the city of hayward will send out 10,000 masks to local essential businesses to protect workers and customers. those businesses include grocery stores, food production and deliveries restaurant and hardware stores. they must have a hayward business license. the masks are not surgical or medical grade. well, may is bike month, and with fewer cars on the roads, bike shops are seeing a surge in demand. but a nonprofit bike clinic has suffered a setback in reopening. the bike clinic sells, rents, and fixes bicycles for anyone in the community who needs help. the shop had been making plans to reopen in the coming week, but their building was broken into. bikes and specialty tools were stolen. a volunteer bike mechanic i spoke with today says the burglary hurts the community. >> although we can still have people come into the shop, i know there are times we'll have to say sorry, we're not able to help you now because we're waiting for some of our tools to get replaced.

effect. investigators say officers opened fire when the suspect walked towards them armed with a knife. a san jose officer opened fire on a suspect in east san jose on friday night. no one was injured in that separate incident. a twitter employee is in life-threatening condition after being shot friday evening near mission dolores in san francisco. that is according to police. now the 22-year-old man was struck at 14th and guerrero streets at 8:30. a 17-year-old boy was driven to a local hospital in a private car, also with injuries from the shooting. the teen is expected to survive. san francisco police have not released details about a motive in that shooting. a twitter spokesperson confirms to abc7 news a company employee was hurt in the incident. three men are accused of trying to steal a catalytic converter from the underside of a parked car early saturday morning. san bruno police officers say they caught the men in the act in the area of crystal springs road and crestmoore drive.

coronavirus. several precautions are being taken, including temperature checks. lawmakers will be limited to having one staff person with them. the pandemic led to the legislature's first work stoppage in 158 years. in what could be the most important phone call for an attorney's career, the u.s. supreme court says it will hold oral arguments by phone. it's a first for the nation's highest court. the court said starting tomorrow, it will hear ten arguments remotely, including disputes over birth control access, the electoral college, and whether president trump can keep his tax records from investigators. the audio will be available live to the public. some areas of the country began to reopen this weekend, some with a new sense of normal. and this one with a sense of the past. a drive-in heater in virginia petitioned the governor, and after working with the health department, got permission to reopen this weekend. and as you can see, it quickly sold out. people said they were just thrilled to be able to get out of the house and do something a
