today. management said the clubhouse will remain closed, so they want to make sure that people still stay socially distanced apart and no contact payment will be made. so, they're hoping to make it as touch free as possible. but you will see golfers teeing off today. >> i am very anxious to get back out there, yeah. i played in napa a couple times since they opened a couple weeks ago, but this is a great course. >> it's not just golf that will kick back up today. you'll also see construction projects being allowed to fire back up today. plant nurseries and landscaping companies. those have been ordered to shut down, but they will be allowed to reopen today and then you'll also see the car wash allowed to open. so, here we go starting to roll out, you know, ease up on the shelter-in-place restrictions. but we are still to stay home when we can. reporting live in san francisco,

amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you, amy. this week, more than 30 states have or are in the process of lifting restrictions and reopening. abc7 news anchor jobina fortson is looking at the push and pull between pushing restrictions and extending them. good morning. >> good morning, kumasi. as more states start easing restrictions, they're dealing with the linger effects on safety. in new york city, at least 100 social distancing summons were issued over the weekend as warm weather brought people outside. governors are struggling to chart the best path forward in reopening. ohio's mike dewine announced a phased approach to reopening. manufacturing and construction will resume today, retail business can reopen next monday. he decided to rescind the mandatory face mask order, as well. >> it became clear to me that that was a bridge too far. people were not going to accept the government telling them what

to do. and so we put out, you know, dozens and dozens of orders. that was one that just went too far. >> several states in the northeast have announced a partnership to buy personal protective gear and medical equipment together, as well as efforts to increase testing. president trump says he wants a coronavirus vaccine by the end of the year and that means that it could come from here or another country. kumasi, i'll send it over to you. >> thank you, jobina. a lot of questions surrounding opening up too soon. abc news chief dr. jennifer ashton talked about the dangers of easing some of the rules. >> i think we have to remember that this virus is not going anywhere. so, it's a matter of learning how to live with it until a point at which a vaccine is available or certainly better treatments are available. so, that's the foundation on which all of this reopening has to be predicated. >> dr. ashton also says

researchers are looking into places like asia that have reopened but have started to see more cases. and that can also determine when states and cities can loosen restrictions. happening today, california lawmakers return to sacramento for the start of a new legislature session and they have a full plate of items to discuss for how the state plans to handle this pandemic moving forward. assembly speaker calling lawmakers back to the capitol building but a handful plan to remain at home to avoid the health risk. several precautions are being taken, including temperature checks while workers will habe limited to have one worker with them. the first work stoppage in 158 years. also as of today two more counties are defying the shelter-in-place orders. sutter and yuba are allowing businesses to reopen.

both will require face coverings. neither one has had hospitalized with the virus in two weeks and m modoc county reopened on friday with working with the governor's office. the push to reopen is being heard in several other pockets of our state with shop owners saying they are thankful to be getting back to work. look at this in fresno county the city of parlier is one of the first cities to allow barbershops and hair salons to open back up and the decision comes with mixed reaction. >> we're trying to take just appointments. i think people need to know they need to call so we can regulate how many peeping are coming in and how many people are leaving. >> to open up these businesses without having the prevalence and knowledge of seeing how much the city has been infected. >> about 200 people rallied in vaccaville to reopen the state. if necessary, organizers say

they'll be back next weekend. well, free testing begins today for one san rafael neighborhood. marin county will offer it to those who live in canal one of the diverse and densely populated areas of the county. it will do 1man tests a day. people can make an appointment first and will do so through the county's website. sonoma county will open two covid-19 testing site regardless for any resident. the two sites located in petaluma and santa rosa and unlike many other testing sites, there is not a drive-thru option. you do have to get out of your car to get these tests. appointments are required and they can be made online or on your phone and we have a link on abc7news.com. foster city-based gilead said its drug remdesevir is expected to arrive in hospitals

this week. it follows a recent study led by the national institute of health that found the drug shortened recovery time for some coronavirus patients by four days. gilead ceo said it's ready to send its entire supply of the drug by this week. >> we are firmly focused on getting this medicine to the most urgent patients around the country here in the united states. and we intend to get that to patients in the early part of this next week or beginning to work with the government, which will determine which cities are most vulnerable and where the patients are that need this medicine. >> gilead said its supplies can treat up to 200,000 patients. look at this story. this is new this morning. an act of kindness to help out our health care workers. an anonymous donor in santa cruz is gifting the dominican health hospital $1 million for its staff members so they can get extra bonuses. according to the associated

press all full-time workers will each get $800 bonus this month. part-time worker gets $600. came with a note that said thank you for standing up and caring for our community. we love to see that. coming up, a bit of controversy over blue face masks that are worn by san francisco police. how san francisco's chief of police is now responding after some officers dawned these blue lives matter masks. plus, bay area natives on the big stage, but from home. see if the two local singers made the cut during "american idol's" top ten reveal. i don't know what happened, mike. so, i'm excited. i did not watch it, so i'm excited to see this recap. but what i did do yesterday was walk outside in this glorious weather that we had. it was such a good sunday. really a good weekend. >> it really was. it was really nice to be outside. wasn't too hot. plenty of sunshine if you needed it and we're going to do the same thing today and tomorrow

but then come wednesday, it is going to get warm, even hot thursday and friday. but we'll cool it off for mom's day sunday. let's look at what is going on with temperatures. 41 in menlo park and 41 also in half moon bay. you can tell it's definitely cooler than it should be this morning. dry air, lack of breezes and lack of marine layer clouds this morning. most of us in the 40s along the east bay shore and concord and antioch with 50s there. let's talk about your commute and going to be a little breezy this afternoon. bay bridge southward and the san mateo and dumbarton and a cross wind and choppy on the water. we start at 44 and 55 and then 65 and by 1:00 we're around 73 degrees. we're looking at a 30 degree jump today. high clouds and sunshine this afternoon and drop down to 67 at 7:00. as far as the east bay goes mid 60s at 11:00 and check out those low 70s for a couple hours and

dropping into the 60s starting at 5:00. for san francisco, starting off in the 40s this morning. 59 by 11:00 and mid 60s for a couple hours with a few passing high clouds and about 61 at 7:00. so, pretty comfortable today. all right. we'll take a look at what's going on around the rest of the state. first, we'll get over to jobina. good morning, hope you had a great morning and how is traffic going? >> thank you, mike. i did. i hope you had a great one, as well. traffic is pretty smooth for the most part this morning. we have a number of construction projects going on right now, so i want to take you to a live look showing our 880 at the coliseum camera in oakland because we have road work here that is happening until 7:00 a.m. and it's likely to slow people down as our morning commute gets further under way. road work between 23rd avenue and 29th avenue. you can expect various lane closures there. and in case you missed it over the weekend, that major deck replacement project on 101 now

you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. >> this is a live look from the east bay hills camera showing you how clear it is this morning and plenty of sunshine in the forecast for today. temperatures in the 40s in most areas. a cool morning thanks to that dry air. 57 and 68 and 73 at noon and hit the 7 dangerous heat in the desert and parts of socal and mid 80s around places like sacramento, chico and fresno. kumasi? >> thanks, mike. this morning, face masks are at the center of a controversy involving san francisco police officers. look at this. so the officers, as you can see, they were wearing flag themed coverings on friday. it was while responding to a demonstration over lack of housing.

they feature a thin blue line flag meant as a display of unity and pride for law enforcement. this flag became a symbol for counterprotesters during the plaque lives matter. now looking to replace these masks. and it's just the latest sighting in the bay area, wild life taking over and taking back what is theirs as all of us are staying inside. a viewer shared this video in san francisco yesterday. we've seen these coyotes really out and about more frequently in the past few weeks, especially in san francisco. at least one decided to use the crosswalk. how kind. i think we would just get out of its way, though. now, to the big "american idol" finish this morning for two bay area natives. they are representing, as well, as they now find themselves in the top ten. francisco martin of san francisco made the final spot.

come over during the afternoon and early evening hours and that's just some high clouds. let's see what our temperatures are doing in the microclimates. down in the south bays 72 to 75 until you get around morgan hill and gilroy and you have 66 in millbrae to about 77 in palo alto and upper 50s to low 60s along the coast and mid-60s in sausalito and low to a few upper 70s as you head northbound through the north bay valleys and you can see about 68 to 71 along the east bay shore and as you head into the valleys, mid 70s to upper 70s. tonight, not quite as cool as this morning. mid 40s to low 50s. let's take a look at what is going on with the seven-day torcato forecast. what you're about to see the same as tomorrow. the jump and 90s inland for about three days and 80s around the bay and 70s possible at the coast thursday and friday. it is going to be a hot one. some of us may see if our air conditioner was working properly before we get there, kumasi. >> all right, thanks, mike. uber is announcing new

changes in response to the coronavirus pandemic. abc's kenneth moton has the details. >> in techbytes uber is putting safety rules in place. driver to wear a mask or face covering and that policy is expected to be in place in the next few weeks. without sharing details, it is working on technology to determine if they're obiding by the new rule. parents have forgotten how much they learned in school they are hitting google with questions on how to do fractions or what is anned adverb. today google doodle celebrates teachers. it marks the start of teacher appreciation week. google says searching of the words how to thank a teacher tripled last month. here's one way to thank them. just say thank you. those are your techbytes.

well, here at abc7 we are honoring the class of 2020. they had to forego graduation ceremonies and other milestones because of coronavirus. kristen allich is graduating in concord and straight a student and plans to attend the university of arizona in the fall and her mom tells us kristen is a track and field athlete and a second can gree black belt in karate. go, kristen, and congratulations. if you want to honor an a graduate, share the details on our website. please we ask, though, do not send any professional photos. we want to see your senior in their natural element just doing their thing. and last night's episodes of michael jordan's last dance documentary showed just how much of a competitor he is. >> i was a threat. i'm not saying he wasn't a threat, but me being compared to him, i took offense to that. >> michael did not come to play

nice. nice. all right. let's talk about what is going on with the small craft advisory? that's the breeziness i was talking about on our bridges. let's take a quick look at what is going on with our temperatures. wednesday you can see the 80s taking over inland and near 70 in san francisco and gets even hotter thursday. look at those low to even a few mid-90s possible in the east bay valleys while we ramp up in the north bay and south bay and friday, again, some low to mid 90s in the east bay valleys and near 90 in the south bay and north bay and near 80 around the bay and near 70 at the coast. those will be our warmest temperatures. saturday we'll start to taper down a little bit and mother's day is going to be very comfortable. more about that in the next half hour. back to kumasi. coming up next at 5:00, more than a dozen parks in one county are reopening today, but restrictions on who can visit. airports and airlines making major changes in an effort to adapt to the pandemic.
