allowed when california's recovery enters this new phase. good morning, everyone. it's tuesday, may 5th. we are looking forward to the changes and this big warm-up coming to the bay area. mike is tracking our temperatures this morning. >> with the hottest temperatures hitting friday, can you imagine what our parks and beaches may look like if the last couple of weekends have been any indication? we will see when we get there. first we have to get there. let's talk about what is going on outside. looks quiet with our doppler 7.. clouds along the coast stretching into san francisco, and they will push you in the 60s this afternoon before the sea breeze kicks in and brings the clouds back late in the afternoon and evening hours. 45 to 51. not quite as chilly as yesterday. you could see 69 to 73 with high clouds and sunshine at noon for our bay and inland neighborhoods. 68 to 72, about the same as yesterday, such minor changes you probably won't notice, but

you will when the warmth gets here and we will talk about that coming up. let's get to reggie for the news of the day. >> thank you. many businesses and retail stores are getting ready to possibly re-open. governor newsom will announce phase two on thursday, and that will include clothing stores, book stores and flower shops reopening. amy hollyfield is live in walnut creek. >> it would be nice to see the boarded up flower shop be open for mother's day, but the governor did leave room for the counties to make these decisions. there's still a lot of details to be worked out. the governor said some retail, like book stores, clothing and sporting good stores could re-open for curbside pickup as early as friday. he will announce criteria on thursday that must be met for

reopening. he left the door open for counties to stay closed if that's what they think is best. >> for example, the bay area, northern california, they have guidelines where they are a little more strict than these guidelines. if they choose not to come into compliance with the state guidelines they have that right. >> reporter: we checked in with san francisco mayor, london breed, who would not confirm whether anybody new would be opening in san francisco this friday and she says she looks forward to working with the governor. pressure to re-open is growing and there were protests last week and the governor says he will be making decisions based on data. no hair cuts yet. no gyms. the governor is saying don't forget social distancing and don't forget why we are doing all of this, to stop the spread of the virus.

reporting live from walnut creek, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. the president is going to travel today, headed to phoenix, arizona, to tour a honeywell plant. the president said he will also travel to ohio soon. the white house has not released details on that. president trump left the white house for the first time in over a month on friday. it was a short trip. he went to camp david in maryland by helicopter. today he will travel on air force one. now, an abc7 news live desk update. >> at the live desk we are looking at an alarming new warning involving the coronavirus and children. there are at least 15 children in the hospital right now where the mysterious illness that could be related to covid-19. here's what officials are saying this morning about the situation. they say to be on the lookout for the serious syndrome that was first reported last month in europe. the children first showed symptoms including fever, rash

and a stomach illness, and a condition similar to kawasaki disease and that can lead to heart disease. >> the muscle itself is inflamed and weak, or their blood vessels are so injured that their blood pressures are low, and it leads to where all the organs in the body can be injured. >> a doctor in new york is currently treating six patients with the syndrome and he said most children that get covid-19 will not develop this. a new study is look into how children are contracting covid-19 and how it is spread. kumasi, i will send it to you. >> thank you. at least two trader joe's employees have tested positive. workers were notified that somebody from the knob hill location tested positive and that employee last worked on april 10th.

another tested positive at the ninth street location and that person last worked on friday, and that location was closed for cleaning and it has opened back up, and the knob hill location did not close for cleaning. and then an update on crime trends since was in place. there's an increase in officers in areas most needed. >> a lot of what we are seeing of this uptick has to do with some of the gangs and group conflicts in our community, and a large part of that, by the way, is outside influeces and outside members come into our city. >> the chief also says the department continues to give back to the community by delivering groceries and face masks to those in need. >> a major bay area health care system is going back to nonemergency surgeries. stanford medical center just started to rebook its

procedures. stanford said it tested nearly 80% of its employees and that has allowed them to re-open for elective surgeries. >> i was jumping for joy. i really was. even just to sit here and laugh and talk to you, there's a lot of pain. right now i have been in tremendous pain all day. >> i am looking forward to getting back together with my team in the operating room and doing what we do best. >> stanford says thanks to large donations their hospitals have plenty of masks and supplies to keep their employees safe. it hopes to operate at full capacity by june. it is wildfire preparedness week here in california and the santa rosa fire department says people should take advantage of being stuck at home right now. >> we are still in a shelter in place, and what we want to see people doing is taking advantage of the time to do simple things, such as being prepared for what could be a busy fire season,

meaning there's weed evadement, and home hardening. >> there was a small fire last night in santa rosa. a downed power line knocked out electricity for about an hour. this is how the coronavirus is affecting fire departments. >> part of our operating procedures, we are constantly looking for signs and symptoms or any indication that any of our staff may have contracted covid. >> the head of california's office of emergency services says while the state is dealing with the virus around the clock it is ready to shift to wildfires. huge surprise. i just can't even believe it. >> we're hearing from the health-care workers who are receiving an unexpected bonus during this uncertain time. and is this what the commute could look like in the bay area when we start heading back to work? the changes being made in other

moderate pollen, strong sunshine and a breezy afternoon for your outdoor activities. here's a look at what is going on as far as the north bay where we jump from 45 to 75 from 7:00 to 1:00. high clouds and sunshine before the low clouds start to invade around 7:00. especially our coastal valleys. in the east bay we start in the 50s and stay there through 9:00, and low 70s for the better part of the afternoon hours when it becomes breezy, high clouds and sunshine and then low clouds by 7:00. the temperature down to 63 degrees then. along the coast we will get sunshine from time to time and the bay will be sunny most of the day, and the breeze will keep us in the mid-60s for the most of the day in san francisco. we will talk about the warming trend coming up next in the accuweather 7-day forecast. first, let's say good morning to jobina and talk about our essential workers. >> hi, mike. thank you very much. good morning, everyone. i talked about road construction and we will get to one of our

bigger projects right now in san francisco along highway 1, between 101 and gary boulevard. you can see all of the southbound lanes are closed there and we have one lane on the northbound side, and so just a heads up for our essential workers this will slow you down this morning if that's part of your morning commute. only in the north bay direction, and you can get through and that will be until 8:00 a.m. today. this could be the future for commuting and what it might look for all of us, social distancing stickers on the floor of trains and riders spaced out. this is happening in milan, italy, and you can see people seem to be following the rules there. reggie and kumasi, i am curious what this would look like during peak commute hours in and out of san francisco moving forward, but it's definitely interesting to see. good for them. >> yeah. i think it would be tough to

2015. ghost ship founder, derick all menna is out of jail as he awaeut awaits a new trial. he was just released from santa rita jail with an electronic ankle monitor yesterday. he was released to lake county where his wife and children live. his release is tied to the judicial emergency orders intended to stop the spread of coronavirus in jails. and then a gift to employees at the hospital here. full time workers will get an 8$800 $800bonus this month. >> it's amazing to share with the whole hospital team, everybody working together and getting things together, and it's great. it's a really nice feeling.

on this cinco de mayo, temperatures a lot like yesterday so we will call it two for tuesday. and then the heat, we have got it until mother's day and relaxed just in time for mom. let's look at the fog forecast. you can see the low clouds along the peninsula coast, and in the afternoon hours look at the surge everywhere and even pushing through the bay as we head into the evening commute. so that gives you an idea of how quickly it's going to change things late this afternoon, and until then we will top out in the middle of the afternoon, in the mid to upper 70s in the south bay. our warmest temperatures, morgan hill and gilroy, low 80s there. 71 at mill gray to 76 in redwood city. around 60 to 64 along the coast. upper 60s for downtown, south san francisco, and sausalito. it will be a breezy afternoon. up in the north bay, mid to upper 70s, and we will try to get to 81 in calistoga. as you head into our inland neighborhoods, we have low to

future. the company just released what customers can expect when stores are re-opened. some changes are providing face coverings for employees and customers. and keeping returned merchandise off the sales floor for a certain amount of time. and then it took the sba two weeks to process the loans, but in more than a week more than 2 million have been processed. it's part of the 72% of micro-small businesses in the bay area that employ ten people or less. he applied for a ppp loan through bank of america but still waiting for approval. >> we have been working with the larger banks in particular through a slightly different process so we would not bog down our system. we have tried different pacing techniques. we don't have the big backlog

soured. julian glover has why people are so concerned about this. >> that was from the early celebrations that happened a couple days ago over the weekend, so there's a lot of concern from the san jose police about the crowds that could come out for cinco de mayo today. we want to get right to the pictures this morning. a viewer snapping these pictures of a huge crowd gathering near story and king roads on the east side, getting a head start on the celebrations. look, they are basically packed shoulder to shoulder with few masks in sight here. police tell us they have an extensive plan for cinco de mayo, including extra officers out there, and the chief says those officers will not be going into the crowds and handing out citations for folks violating social distancing health orders. neighbors are just hoping people will use common sense. >> it was like, it was like covid-19 was beaten and this was

the big celebration with people coming out on to the streets. ridiculous. >> sjpd also planning to crack down on that right there, side shows and out-of-control drivers during what is usually a peaceful parade of cars for folks to check out the cinco de mayo holiday. police in san jose are asking people if you are going to be out and celebrating cinco de mayo do so responsibly, and that doesn't just involve not drinking and driving, it also involves making sure you are keeping your distance from folks if you are out and about. for now, reporting live this morning, julian glover, abc7 news. san francisco's delores park can be closed if people do not start with the social distancing measures. >> if we see the behavior has not changed we will close the

park. >> mayor breed made this announcement saying she was disappointed to see large crowds at the park over the weekend. this is video from drone view 7. the police chief said it's okay to go to the park with family members or people in the same household and he said people at the park should be wearing face masks though, and there are a team of officers focused on parks and they are starting to cite people. dozens of rvs are rolling up to help the dire need for housing during this pandemic. the city is officially launching a trailer isolation program to house homeless and medically vulnerable people, and to house nurses and first responders so they can avoid contracting and spreading coronavirus. those that live in the trailers will also get three meals a day. last week san francisco announced a similar program to move rvs into the bay viewpoint area. and then coronavirus test

something a huge part of opening the bay area, and sonoma county is opening two public testing sites, and this is regardless of symptoms. you could have no symptoms and get tested. the two sites will be in santa rosa and petaluma. unlike many testing sites, there is no drive through option so you need to get out of your car. appointments are required and can be made online or over the phone and we have a link on our website, abc7news.com. and results are out following coronavirus testing for those working or living in san francisco's mission district. in four days nearly 3,000 people got tested. 62 of them tested positive. listen to this. of that group 95% were latinos. most of those infected, 90% reported they were unable to work from home, so we're talking about people who are doing essential jobs. san francisco also announced free coronavirus testing for

customers are noticing changes to the menu at wendy's because of the issues with their supply change. >> good morning. yes, the fast-food chain is putting up signs on its drive through menu. some of the san jose locations here. it says, quote, we are currently experiencing interruptions in the supply chain that may affect the sreavailability of certain items. it could include hamburgers, salad and some fruits and, it's unclear if this is happening at all wendy's locations, and wendy's is working to minimize the impact to customers and they said there's disruptions in the beef products. >> thanks.

chai soon. starbucks says it has been analyzing its stores in china to help guide the reopening of stores here in the united states. more than 85% of its stores will be open by the end of this week. >> we actually have the capability to monitor the number of new covid cases by county and can get down by city, and we use that information to help us adapt the experience in stores in that particular market. this is done at a very local level. >> you will notice markers on the ground to stay apart and shields at counters where you can pay electronically, and in addition to delivery there will be contact lists pickup. reggie? amazon vice president quick hit job to protest the firing of employees that shared concerns about the spread of coronavirus at the company's warehouses.

he writes in a blog post he left his job last week in dismay after amazon fired several workers that publicly criticized the company. he said all the employees fired were minorities or women. along those was a new york warehouse worker that led a strike last month pushing amazon for more protections amid the covid-19 pandemic. and then the airline can warning it needs a government bailout or they could go bankrupt. they are close to a deal. the airline said it saw a 99% drop in passengers because of the pandemic. this week the pilots offered to take a 45% pay cut if the company promised not to lay off pilots. we are looking at the new york stock exchange as trading gets started, and we are up than a few minutes ago, up 315

it's going to cool down rather rapidly in the bay this evening. before then we get to the mid and upper 70s through most of the south bay, 71 to 76 on the peninsula today. 62 to 64 along the coast. we'll try to hit the upper 60s on the bay side of san francisco where we will see more sunshine. up in the north bay, mid to upper 70s in most neighborhoods. got 80s around santa rosa and calistoga. 79 to about 85 from san ramon to brentwood in our east bay valleys. that's about as comfortable it gets until mother's day in the east bay. tonight in the upper 40s to mid-50s with some of the low clouds mixing out as a slight offshore breeze develops. it will help to start the warming trend tomorrow. low to mid-90s inland, and mid and a few 80s possible around the bay, and especially friday, near 70s at the coast and then temperatures drop next week where they will be below average. have a great day.
