pretty comfortable at 7:00 73 to 78. we'll turn the corner here and take a look at what is going on with traffic and bring jobina in. good morning. >> good morning, mike. thank you. i'm following a serious situation in santa clara right now. a sig alert issued on northbound 101 and i'll bring in the maps here so you can see the area just around 4:30 this morning. the entire, all of the northbound lanes were shut down where you see that purple line there. that indicates a full closure and i did get an update from the chp and they did open two lanes and now two lanes blocked and two lanes opened. unfortunately, it looks like a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle. this is a deadly situation. so, a coroner has been called out to the scene. they do not have an estimated time as to when all lanes will reopen, so this is a death investigation. so, they expect it to take a while. expect delays, but you will be able to get through. i'll send it over to you,

kumasi. >> thank you, jobina. developing now, we're waiting to find out more about what led up to deputies shooting and killing a woman in half moon bay. the san mateo county sheriff office said it happened around 7:30 last night on main street near fernandez park. the woman was caring alcohol a rifle. they ordered her to drop it and that's when they say she fired at them. deputies shot back and medics took her to the hospital where she died. governor newsom expected to reveal more details tomorrow about the second phase of the state's reopening plan. and this morning we are getting a preview of what this could look like in napa county. officials there gave the green light to businesses like clothing stores, florists and clothing good stores to open friday. they can only offer curbside pickup. the health official is not sure if winery tasting rooms fall under stage two or stage three. marin county will stick to its plan which is stricter than the governor's. it is looking at allowing some

retail stores to open on may 18th with curbside pickup. that is a week and a half after the governor's plan. the county put together its only highly detailed three-phase plan. it could be months before it reaches the last phase. in santa clara county they're waiting to hear more before considering their options. >> we are evaluating, of course, in our own community, you know, what we can and cannot do to ensure to protect our residents and we're also, of course, looking to learn more about the proposal and the changes in the state order. >> the county needs more ppe for health care workers and more contact investigations. she says the county is doing better when it comes to the number of hospitalizations and beds to accept patients. in today's "gma first look" new coronavirus vaccine trials are starting up with volunteers getting their first doses.doses.

>> reporter: in this morning's "gma first look" the race for the vaccine. pfizer officially launching human trials in the united states. giving the first volunteers a dose of the potential vaccine or a placebo at the university of maryland school of medicine. on monday david rock a microbiology phd student there was the very first person to be injected. the study taking place at multiple sites across the country variations of the vaccine all hoping to spark an immune system response including antibodies to fight the virus if that person is exposed. coming up at 7:00 a.m., an abc news exclusive, dr. kathleen noozal. with your "gma first look."

president trump toured an n95 mask factory in arizona, but ironically, he and his entourage were not wearing masks. jobina fortson is at the live desk with the response from the white house. jobina? >> yes, kumasi, good morning. people could not help but notice that president trump did not wear a mask inside this facility in arizona that did have signs saying that masks were required there. the white house says the president was granted an exception. while in arizona president trump sat down for an exclusive interview with abc news anchor david muir. >> you said this was at the end of february and you stopped trael to china and you said when you have 15 people and with the 15 within a couple days is going to go down to zero, that is a pretty good job we've done. a huge disparity between 15 and more than a million cases. was it an intelligence failure? where was the breakdown that we didn't know the scope of this? >> i want to be optimistic.

here's what's showing at this drive-thru movie here and a double billing for the younger set. "trolls" showing with "onward" a double feature and they have just reopened. they do have some new rules, though, because of the pandemic. the snack bar is closed. so, you do need to bring your own popcorn and the cars need to be at least ten feet apart. but even in a limited capacity, the kids seemed happy to be here. there were definitely some happy parents here last night. grateful for something to do outside the house with the kids. >> something fun. our kids haven't been out of the house in about two months. they have been driving me crazy. they justine want to go to the grocery store at this point in time but i kept them in. >> i am excited to see both. >> the playground here at the movie theater is also closed and you cannot get out of your car,

valleys. you'll waish you were there and full-on sunshine in the south bay and other than a few high clouds this morning, the last one to clear out of those and little breezy during the evening hours, also. that will drop you from 80 to 73 at 4:00. the last stop the peninsula. 53 at 7:00 and some low 70s at 7:00 and i should say noon and then near 80 this afternoon and full-on sunshine until it sets at about 8:06 this evening. we'll talk about that heat coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. first, sounds like a sad start to the morning commute. let's get over to jobina and she'll tell us more about it. >> unfortunately. following a crash in santa clara this morning. it is deadly. a pedestrian was hit by a car on northbound 101 and taking you to the area here so you can see. you can see all lanes at one point were shut down and the chp has opened two of the lanes. two are still blocked.

this is a sig alert and the chp has not given us a time to when this area will fully reopen. the coroner has been called out to the scene and this is, of course, a death investigation. so, they're going to be taking their time out there so you can certainly expect delays for our essential workers if this is a part of your morning commute. take you to some uother parts o the bay area here and looking live in san jose. 87 here where there are clear conditions right now. i'm not seeing anything else too major aside from that sig alert, but, of course, we hate to see that. our drive times here. all green across the board. tracy to dublic take you 23points and antioch to concord 13 minutes for that ride and san rafael to san francisco 16 minutes. reggie and kumasi. >> thank you, jobina. supreme court justice ruth bader ginsburg is expected to take part in oral arguments via video from the hospital this morning. according to a statement from the court, ginsburg was hospitalized after tests found an infection related to her

it's 5:14 if you're just joining us. here are the seven things to know this morning. number one, san mateo sheriff deputies shot and killed a woman in half moon bay after she fired with them with a rifle. the woman was taken to the hospital where she died. two new covid-19 testing sites will open in santa clara county today. one at james lick high school in east san jose and the other at christopher high in gilroy. both will be opened monday through friday 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. number three, we're getting an idea of reopening might look like in napa county. given the green light to business stores like florists and clothing and sporting good stores to open on friday.

the availability of 18 existing pit stops around the clock. that brings the total number of locations throughout the city to 49. city leaders hope it will increase sanitation among the homeless during the crisis. and it looks like love endures, despite the coronavirus. >> forsaking all others to be true to her always. >> i do. >> you're witnessing what the santa clara clerk's office said is the first virtual wedding in the state. san francisco county board of supervisors chavez officiated this wedding over zoom. the couple paid for a ceremony on march 19th at san jose city hall, but, of course, they had to postpone it. as you can see, family and friends attended virtually. >> congratulations. wish you a very happy life.

but thee is the creative part of this whole duo. let's take a look at what's going on from our roof camera. 53 degrees and high clouds to start our day and they will not last long. we will have a whole lot of sunshine coming into our forecast. sorry. thought the cat was trying to get in the door. warming trend begins today. comfy, nice will follow that and a wild swing from friday to tuesday and some areas dropping 20 to 25 degrees and here isaic l a look at your forecast. look at the 80s coming in this afternoon. those are the orange you see there. in fact, you can see orange in the south bay from 80 in sunniville and to gilroy at about 85 and we'll start at 80 in mountainview and 75 in millbrae and look at the mid to upper 60s even with the breezy conditions along the coast and mid 70s downtown and south san francisco and sausalito. low to mid 80s through the north bay valleys and check out the east bay shoreline and mid to upper 70s and try to get to 80

around hercules and breezy again this afternoon and inland and east bay neighborhood to brentwood at 88. here's what i'm talking about good sleeping weather upper 40s to mid 50s under the full moon tonight. accuweather full-day forecast. air conditioning going to stretch those legs out and see how well it's going to keep up for thursday and friday, if you choose to use it. saturday still going to be pretty warm inland. 60s and 70s else where and back into mainly the 60s and 70s for mother's day and below archlg ne next week with a slight chance of rain. first, kumasi, im so glad we're doing this story because outside of the front line workers, the dental community is the most vulnerable to what's going on right now. >> i know. they definitely are. i don't know if this is what you were talking about, mike. maybe they want us to stop eating meat. but more people are turning to plant-based meat because of the

meat shortage. beyond meat did better than expected during the first quarter and its shares have gone up 85% since march. covid-19 has really hit the beef and pork plants pretty hard and some facilities have had to close because workers got sick with coronavirus. and a meat shortage is starting to impact fast food restaurants, too. one out of five wendy's sold out of beef on monday. the usda reports beef and pork production is down 35% compared to this time last year. some meat processing plants are starting to open back up, but industry experts say production will be significantly lower. they say we should expect higher prices at the supermarket. the cost of ground beef for hamburgers could rise more than 60% in the coming days. friend, we don't have to worry. >> can i register a complaint. >> okay, what? so i went to this place and got the impossible burger the other day and i am eating it and it's not the impossible burger. >> maybe it was just really

>> an area of low pressure approaching the coast monday and tuesday and look at this potential for less than a tenth of an inch in the south bay up to a third, maybe half an inch of rain up in the north bay. sure hope it comes to fruition. it's getting awfully brown outside. >> mike, thank you. shanghai disneyland is set to reopen next week for the first time since covid-19 began. the park is going to institute some new measures and procedures, including opening with limited attendance and required advanced ticketing and reservations. in addition, there will be social distancing accommodations and lines, restaurants and in the ride vehicles. ticket sales start friday with the park scheduled to open on monday. of course, disney is the parent company of abc7. adele is thanking fans for the birthday love and paying tribute to covid-19 fighters. the british superstar returned to social media posting this new picture of adele. she's smiling she's lookin beautiful in her black dress and

turned 32 yesterday. she said i hope you're all staying safe and sane during this time. she thanked first responders for risking their lives and keeping people safe. this is adele's first post since december and she looks like she has been working out and changing things up. elom musk and grimes have a new baby and yesterday we learned his first name is x a-12. grimes posted on twitter x is for the unknown variable and alvin spelling of artificial intelligence and then a-12 references a precursor to the couple's favorite airplane. what are we going to call the baby when we see it? >> nothing.

>> here's mike. >> thank you, kumasi, reggie. welcome to wednesday. overlay the clouds and you can see some high clouds exiting quickly. they're way up there above 30,000 feet. they're going to lead us to sunshine, once they get out of here in the next hour, hour and a half and look at these warmer temperatures. 80s in our inland neighborhoods and even around fremont. a lot of mid to upper 70s for the bay and including san francisco and about 67 in half moon bay. we'll talk about our hottest two days tomorrow and friday coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. now an abc7 news live desk update. at the live desk, the san mateo sheriff county office is investigating after a woman was shot and killed by deputies last night in half moon bay. investigators say a woman in her 30s or 40s was carrying a rifle and alcohol on main street near fernandez park around 7:30 last

night. deputies asked her to drop the gun and she instead shot at them and deputies returned fire striking her. she was taken to the hospital where she died. kumasi. >> all right, thank you, jobina. happening today, two new coronavirus testing sites are opening up in santa clara county. located at james lick high school in east san jose and christopher high school in gilroy. julian glover is live at james lick with the details. >> good morning, kumasi. all about getting coronavirus testing to underserved communities and that's why the two new sites are opening up today as you mentioned this one here in east san jose and the other one being in gilroy. again, the one in gilroy is at christopher high, so, both of these new testing centers at high schools. all about a public private partnership run by optum serve now operating 80 of the coronavirus testing sites in california. now, here's how it is going to

work. testing by appointment only here monday through friday and start at 7:00 a.m. this morning and run through 7:00 p.m. anyone can get a test, but we're learning people with symptoms and first responders who are asymptomatic those folks will pea prioritized. you can schedule by call or online. the number is up on your screen and find it on our website abc7news.com. here's health officer sarah cody on the importance of expanding testing in santa clara county. >> we are looking for a level of at least 200 per 100,000. and we're about, you know, 20% of the way there. so, we have, we have more progress to be made. >> certainly lots more progress to be made. that's why additional testing sites are being brought online and we're learning here the site here and the one in gilroy 130 of those coronavirus tests per

day and these are the second and third sites coming and another one that opened on monday. a drive-thru testing site and they hope to process 250 patients there. for now reporting live in east san jose this morning, julian glover, abc7 news. in the ousouth bay, the st y stay-at-home order did not keep people away from celebrating cinco de mayo. officers came in to enforce social distancing but then the cars just came right back an hour later and then so did the officers. >> they won't stay away. they'll break it up and they'll take off and they'll come back and they'll find another spot. it will just be like a cat and mouse game all day, all night. >> sjpd says officers will not be going into crowds to issue citations to people violating the social distancing health order. two residents at a nursing

care facility in vallejo have died from coronavirus. they were in hospice care of windsor vallejo care center. 99 people tested positive including 36 residents and 99 staff members. it is following all safety recommendations. 38 states are easing coronavirus restrictions but cases are still on the rise in at least 19 of them. jobina fortson is at the live desk with what president trump is saying about the pandemic and reopening the country. jobina? >> thank you, kumasi. good morning. president trump says that he can't keep the country closed for years, so he is ramping up covid-19 testing as well as the production of face masks so people can feel safe when they leave their homes. visit a honeywell facility in phoenix, arizona. in an exclusive interview with abc news anchor david muir, acknowledged the likelihood of

covid-19 deaths as more states open but he says the economy must reopen. >> we have to get our country back. you know, people are diediying other way when you look at what happens with drugs, it goes up. when you look at suicides. people are losing their jobs. we have to bring it back. >> two new studies warn against premature openings. john hopkins reports the daily death rate could double by june. the university of washington says the number of deaths could increase to 135,000 by early august. kumasi, i'll send it back over to you. >> thank you, jobina. the u.s. postal service and some bay area landlords are warning about mail theft as stimulus and tax refunds get delivered. porch pirates wearing n95 masks they grabbed the package in oakland and it was just there for 20 minutes. two days before this, a woman broke into this apartment building and grabbed armfuls of mail from a 66-unit complex. the u.s. postal inspector says

challenge. who will care for their kids as they head back to work? keeping small businesses in business. some of them are getting creative in order to survive this pandemic. we go now to meteorologist mike nicco as we look at our day ahead. hey, mike. >> hey, reggie, we'll start down in the south bay. good morning, everybody. we still have that thin veil of high clouds and keeping our temperatures from 38 in morgan hill to about 53 in san jose. how about some other neighborhoods. low to mid 50s up the bay shore and upper 40s in the north bay and mid 40s along the coast and 49 in lafayette to 56 in brentwood as you head into the east bay valleys. here's a look at san jose 54 degrees right now. pretty quiet for your commute and may need the air conditioner, though, during the evening commute especially if you're heading to some of our warmer temperatures. breezy, once again, in the san francisco bay. here's a look at the east bay and we quickly jump from 53 at

7:00 to already 70 at 11:00 and mid to upper 70s and breezes will drop us down by 70ss at 7:00. mid 70s at noon to low to mid 80s for several hours this afternoon and 77 at 7:00 and thinking about having dinner outside on the patio and for san francisco, average high 64 and we'll hit 70 at least. a few mid 70s as you head around the mission and possibly the castro in the afternoon hours. even warmer weather on the way. we'll talk about that and first toss it over to jobina and find out about our morning commute. how are essential workers doing this morning, jobina? >> unfortunately this morning we're following a deadly crash in santa clara and brand-new video from our newsroom of the scene. northbound 101. and i just checked the speeds not long ago as you approach the crash site down to about seven

miles per hour in the area. according to the chp, it looks like a camper hit a pedestrian that was on 101, that's video of the camper right there involved in the crash. it's not clear exactly how this person ended up on the freeway, but they have died. a coroner was out there and because this is a death investigation, it will take them a little while to get everything cleared up. two lanes open right now. you'll be able to get by. our essential workers that need to take 101 on the northbound direction through santa clara this morning and you can certainly expect delays. i will keep you posted on

hour and a half. temperatures hitting the low to mid 60s at the coast. 95 to 85 around the bay. still hot down in socal. look at this, 110 possible today in parts of the desert. 101 specifically in palm springs and 91 in los angeles and upperalupper al 80s through the central r valley and record highs the next three days. on friday governor gavin newsom says stores can reopen with safety measures in place, if parents are going to work, who will take care of their children? we sent kris reyes to get somer answers. >> child care is allowed with conditions and criteria and specifications and modifications in the existing phase that we're in. it's not part of phase two because it's already in place. >> reporter: the question is, what are the new conditions? for example, one of the largest child care providers in the country bright horizons only kept a few of their locations in the bay area open. ones that serve essential
