making premendous progress to get people tested. >> from 2,000 a day to over 25,000 tests a day. in fact, over the last six or seven days, those numbers have increased roughly 30,000 tests a day. >> if you want to access the state's testing site tool, just go to covid-19.ca.gov. in the east bay, oakland has opened a free covid-19 testing site for anyone that feels they might have the virus. the walk-up testing site opened yesterday in east oakland on international boulevard. it's one of the first walk-in only coronavirus testing sites in the bay area. it's opened mondays, wednesdays and fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and you don't need health insurance to get a test. napa county is making testing available to anyone who lives and works in the county. san francisco will test any resident with symptoms and any essential workers even if they

don't have symptoms. the trump administration has a tight grip on what information the cdc can release about the covid-19 pandemic warning about a long and difficult fight ahead. jobina fortson is at the live desk with what's ahead. >> former head of the cdc dr. tom freeden testified before the house appropriations committee yesterday and he said this is the beginning of the pandemic and we are in for a long fight ahead. he predicts the u.s. will exceed 100,000 deaths by the end of the month. >> until we have an effective vaccine and unless something very unexpected happens, our viral enemy will be with us for many months and possibly many years. >> he was brought in as a substitute after the white house prevented dr. anthony fauci from testifying.

shelter-in-place orders. a handful of workers returned to the plant yesterday. newspaper report says those production lines could reopen between now and next week. the report says additional safety measures have been put in place to try to prevent the transmission of coronavirus. well, dozens of people who work for the city of napa could be losing their jobs and napa valley register says they should consider a new budget which is aimed at balancing a projected $21 million shortfall. 39 city leaders are laid off and 31 job vacancies left unfilled. according to this report, parks and recreation will be dissolved as a stand alone department and folded into two different city agencies. no denying that the covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we work with millions working from home digital surveillance tools to make sure their employees are working. amanda del castillo

and i had it, it was fantastic. it was a little different because of the texture and it wasn't quite as chewy, but it was really good. i can see why people would do that. kumasi, go out there and get yours. let's look at what is going on weatherwise. comfortable in the north bay and as we look around most of our neighborhoods, starting off almost exactly the same as yesterday with upper 40s to a few mid 50s up there and it's where we end up this afternoon where it is completely different. here's a look at your commute for essential workers. no matter how you're traveling this afternoon, you have some air conditioning and those refreshing breezes will not materialize today. here's a look at the east bay valleys. we're already in the 80s by noon. 90 we're there most of the afternoon, if not a little bit warmer in some other areas. here's a look at what is going on in the south bay. 55 to 80 at noon to mid 80s for several hours this afternoon and even with a few high clouds. 78 at 7:00 and our last stop

intersection and it looks like a pg&e pole is involved here. 220 people have lost power in the area. doesn't look like it will be restored until 1:00 p.m. according to pg&e and it the repair crews are on site and traffic is being diverted at the moment and if you are an essential worker and this is part of your morning commute, please, avoid the area. we'll move over to the 101 alemany project in san franci o francisco. yes, the project is done but maintenance work being done in the area to follow up. and only one lane is open on southbound 101, so, you can see that one lane of traffic moving by on the left-hand side of your screen. as far as the northbound traffic, all of that is being diverted to 280 in place until 6:00 a.m. heads up to anyone who is headed that direction. this will also be in effect tomorrow, but the reverse. full shut down southbound and one lane open for the northbound

outdoor rec areas could get a green light. in walnut creek, i'm leslie brinkley. how do you feel about it, mike? you were faithful and going three, four times a week? >> i will probably be one of those that is the first there because, as you know, i struggle with my weight and, also, it helps clear my mind also when i go to the gym. that's my decompressing time, my distressing time. so, we're on day, what, 52, 53 and i'm starting to feel a little bit of that stress of not going to the gym. especially if i'm going to stay working at home, kumasi and my wife would be the only one that has an influence. which will be a tremendous influence, don't get me wrong, on whether i go to the gym or not. that's something we'll be thinking about. all right. let's talk about the east bay hills and you can see the full moon, it looks gorgeous as we look out to the west. 57 degrees up in the hills and

the hills warm during the overnight hours while the rest of us pretty cool. moderate heat risk during the day today and tomorrow and tomorrow starts transition back to cooler temperatures and if not below average. 87 to 92 the spread in the south bay and we have low to mid 80s on the peninsula and check out the low to mid 70s. today probably the warmest day at the coast and near 80 in spots in san francisco today. up in the north bay, 87 in san rafael to 90s around santa rosa and calistoga. and we do have upper 70s. pretty close in places like richmond and berkeley and air conditioners will be running s year.90 t 95 degrees. tonight, though, look how comfortable down into the 50s where most of us live. now, let's take a look at tomorrow. you can see the heat surging inland even more. but the coast cooling a little bit. the bay starts to cool and inland saturday and even a

relaxing way. let's talk about what is going on. i'll jump ahead and talk about monday. that green is a chance of rain as we move into monday and definitely deepen our cooling trend that starts on monday and it has eyes for the north bay more than anyone else monday and into tuesday a better chance of some of those showers moving over the rest of our neighborhoods and tapering as we head into wednesday. the reason we put a storm impact scale on it is because it's actually going to have decent rainfall for may. we're talking more than a tenth of an inch possible in the south bay and quarter of an inch in parts of the bay even a half inch the farther you go into the north bay and that would be a refreshing change and get some of the dust and pollen out of the air for a couple days. coming up next at 5:00, the race to ramp up testing. a major pharmacy chain says it is just days away from offering tests even if you don't have symptoms. desperate to reopen, beauty
