with millions out of work but the covid-19 death toll now approaching 80,000, a new abc news/ipsos poll says 64% of americans say re-opening the country right now is too risky. and more than three in four americans say even if there was a re-opening tomorrow, they still wouldn't go back to work. still all but six states have started re-opening in some capacity. california now moving into phase two of its plan. low-risk retailers there offering curbside pickup. >> for me it just gives me hope and i know that things will get better. >> reporter: but restaurant owners like ian gresic are still waiting for the green light and he's planning on opening only at 50% capacity. >> we can only do 50% capacity for so long. a month, maybe two, other than that, there's no point. >> reporter: and in texas as hair, nail and tanning salons can take customers, but some owners say they or their employees don't yet feel safe. >> half of them are choosing to

of course, i have to give a shoutout to my mom because, mom, don't be mad, i haven't put your card in the mail but it's coming. belated mother's day cards always a good thing. at least you sent one but giving you a shoutout on national tv, a nice consolation. let's talk about the fact that mother's day is tomorrow and beyonce and her mama tina knowles-lawson have worked very closely together for many, many years. now they're partnering to help those in the communities who might be most vulnerable to coronavirus. they're calling this campaign, i did my part, and they're going to be allowing for the administration of 1,000 free tests for coronavirus. they're giving away personal protection equipment, grocery gift cards, essential vitamins, household supplies, very, very cool. and they're really hoping to target those in the communities who might not know how dangerous this is and how much of a concern this is. so they're hoping to help the african-american and latino communities in the houston area, their hometown. and they've already challenged some other celebrities. so tyler perry is reportedly

known as zoombombing has emerged and abc's kyra phillips is on that story. take a look. >> reporter: reverend joe amico was celebrating easter month in april by opening up his sunday sermons on zoom until it was interrupted by video of a kkk cross burning. >> i heard my intern say, we're being bombed. >> reporter: the salem, massachusetts, church service was actually being zoombombed. the new form of harassment popping up in pandemic times where intruders hijack video calls. many of these attacks involving hate speech and racist images. >> [ bleep ], man. >> we're getting bombed. >> it's unfortunate that folks would do that kind of thing because it is hurtful. it is hateful. >> reporter: zoombombing, as it has now been defined, is a phenomenon so alarming the fbi issued this warning on april 1st nationwide after the fbi's boston division warned about the

problem back in march. according to the fbi statement, the fbi has received multiple reports of conferences being disrupted by pornographic and/or hate images and threatening language. as individuals continue the transition to online lessons and meetings, the fbi recommends exercising due diligence and caution in your cybersecurity efforts. >> these meeting disruptions are devastating. they're appalling. >> reporter: so now zoom forced to face hate head on telling abc news they are now working with the fbi and other law enforcement to help bring those online predators to justice. >> we have worked with them to ensure that as needed we can cooperate. >> reporter: pelosi also telling us zoom has made several of its security features the standard. default settings for all calls including requiring a password for users to join a meeting. they have also added a new

reporting feature so an intruder can be identified immediately. and, dan, a lot of these online intruders are specifically targeting people of color. they search for new zoom meetings that involve leaders of organizations and people who gather around racial justice issues. these zoom hijackers actually track them on platforms like facebook and twitter, and they develop strategies to go in and zoombomb. and a bit of news this morning, the new york state attorney general announcing that as part of a settlement, zoom would do more to crack down on zoombombing to prevent these often racist attacks. dan? >> i'm glad to hear more is being done. hope it works. kyra, thank you very much. let's switch gears. it's time for the weather. it is -- it has been described as march in may this weekend and as a mother's day gift to rob marciano's wife, we have put him outside to suffer a little bit and there he is. >> reporter: yes. yeah, and not near my home so she's happy about that.

collapsed. do you know what we can do? >> oh, no. i feel so terrible. okay, so this happens for a couple of reasons. one, overmixing. so when you overmix a batter, and this batter, this recipe is very thick, so people tend to want to keep mixing it to make it thinner like maybe a cake batter, but you just want to leave it thick. you don't want to overmix. it gets too much air in there and then when they bake in the oven, they're just expanding a little bit too much and then cool quickly and it concaves right in the middle making a hole or if your oven is too hot, every oven is a little different, so it can rise a little too high and, again, you get that concave kind of hole in the middle. they still taste good. >> good vision, though. don't mix too much. >> yes, they do. i can attest to that. they taste great and we'll be right back.

>> reporter: that's aimee appling, a teacher and mom of four daughters. she started a compassion station to collect food donations and masks. in just one week raising almost 15,000 pounds of food. >> the biggest lesson that i wanted my girls to learn from this, that it's better to give than to receive. >> reporter: and for mom nicole cue who works at a nursing facility, she also knew exactly what she needed to do. >> because i work with an elderly population, i knew that people were going to be at home and unable to get the supplies. >> reporter: she put out a facebook post asking the volunteers to grocery shop. >> i was inundated with emails of people saying i can get grocery, can i get prescriptions. please just let us know what you need. >> reporter: being a mom on this mother's day is different than past years but perhaps even more meaningful. >> i think being a mom right now is definitely giving me a greater sense of purpose. >> reporter: and mom rosalie who normally sells hair ribbons out of her home put her skills to good use.

>> i had a lot of fabric in inventory. a light bulb went out, maybe i could make some face masks and help them out. >> reporter: when the requests for face masks became overwhelming, rosalie decided to make precut fabric kits for volunteers instead. now those kits adding up to at least 1,500 masks and making a big impact. her kids are grown up now but says she always taught them one important lesson. >> be kind. be a good person. even though they tease me all the time, i know they love me and that they're very proud of me. >> absolutely, and incredible work. all those moms, the food donations, the masks. happy mother's day to all of those mighty moms. you know, and there's one more mighty mom out there who raised a little tasmanian devil over the years by the name of robert marciano, and she deserves a special shoutout for putting up with you all these years. >> what in the world are you
