until the rain sets in. best chance after the noon hour in the north bay and slowly spread south as we head into the afternoon and evening hours. it will take likely to get deep into the east bay valleys and into the south bay. notice the temperatures warm up until noon and once that rain cold air gets in and we drop out of getting into the 70s and 50s and 60s for the afternoon. one on the storm impact scale and i'll expand upon that coming up. first, here's reggie. >> mike, we'll see you in a few. we're seeing something more often now at our airports. crowded planes. images on social media of people who seem packed in there and they are uncomfortable wondering what happened to social distancing from the airlines. let's go to amy hollyfield live for us at sfo. amy? >> some passengers over the weekend were so appalled they took pictures and they put them on twitter. we have some shots to show you of pictures from a united airlines flight and an american

airlines flight that look very full. we also talk to a woman who was on a frontier airlines flight it was so full she was petrified. all passengers want to know why they weren't given more space during a pandemic. >> even if you have anybody who is in the middle seats, i think that's over capacity, right? like if you have to be on this flight and you're touching the person next to you or if they can take off their mask off to eat and they're breathing next to you. who knows. the closer people are and the more people packed in, the more it is concerning. >> american airlines told us they will only use the middle seats when necessary. so, for example, they confirmed a pilot who was flying standby was in a middle seat on that flight and they say many families who are traveling together and sitting together. they said 73% of middle seats, though, on that flight were empty. frontier also got back to us saying their flight in question was 66% full.

unit united's flight in question was 85% full. some passengers said they kept their mask on the entire flight because they worried about the lack of social distancing. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. governor newsom set requirements for counties that want to reopen faster, including increased testing capacity and no covid-19 deaths for two weeks. some counties are aplplowing ah anyway. dine-in restaurants, hair and nail salons and shopping malls are all wanting customers. the governor's office threatened to withhold funding to these counties. >> everything that yuba and i a see no basis whatsoever to deprive them on federal funds that they're entitled to just like every county in the state.

>> bar owners say peverage control officers have paid visit to open bars and restaurants threatening to revoke their liquor licenses. a rare illness possibly linked to covid-19 is affecting more children and there have been at least three deaths in new york. doctors are urging parents to look out for fever, rash and abdominal symptoms, signs of kawasaki disease. it is unclear how it is connected to covid-19. a 6-month-old girl was diagnosed with kawasaki and tested positive for covid-19. it happened march 16th just before the shelter-in-place order. and that girl has recovered. at the live desk here, i'm looking at the president of oakland-based company clorox. she went on abc news this morning to talk about how they are doing everything they can to

keep their products on store shelves but that you likely won't see their products fully restocked until the summer months. so, linda reynolds spoke exclusively with abc news and what she is saying here is that shoppers are increasingly frustrated as they scour the internet and stores for clorox wipes. they were not prepared for sky rocketing demand caused by the coronavirus. they are developing wipes to stores every day but demand for the disinfectant products have increased by more than 500%. >> we have seen so many people e buy wipes that haven't baus them in the past. everybody wants products on hand so they can disinfect and keep themselves safe. >> clorox plants are running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. the company ceo expects by the

summer months things to be fully up and running and restocked and until then, touch and go. kumasi, i'll send it over to you. >> all right, thank you, jobina. now that fewer people are outdoors, we've seen it. more wild animals are venturing into the city. abc7 news reporter j.r. stone has our story from fremont. >> reporter: the sweet or not so sweet sounds of coyotes frol frolicking at hamilton ampitheater park in novato a sign of the times. if that north bay coyote doesn't do it for you, how about this bobcat spotted near homes in fremont. >> that's something. >> reporter: so much so that police are warning folks to keep their small pets inside. >> it looked like not a child. it's a grown up kind of bobcat. >> reporter: in recent weeks coyotes and bobcats are some of the many spotte here and there.

in san bruno, two mountain lions were seen on a trail. in napa county wildlife camera caught three mountain lion kittens on video. wildlife experts say they're swamped with calls. >> we're not as overwhelming in the environment right now and humans have sort of taken a step back which has allowed animals to come forward. >> reporter: lila travis is the urban wildlife rescue in san francisco. in april, the volunteer organization took in 500 calls. three to four times what they normally do. >> there's a lot of urban wildlife that depends on human garbage. the food that we leave behind and with us suddenly gone, that food source has also disappeared. >> reporter: because of the covid-19 pandemic, lily tells me they have had to cancel a number of fund-raisers. they're now dealing with half the funding and three times the animals. in fremont, j.r. stone, abc7

susie from san francisco spent the day with her husband and two sons. they had an improvised brunch of take out on the closest flat surface they could find. so sweet. well, a family also had a creative way to celebrate mother's day. they channeled a famous scene from the movie "love actually" while keeping their distance. >> we love you so much. happy mother's day. >> thank you. >> oh, that is sweet. a mother took her four children to see their grandmother at her home. they held up written signs to tell her how much they love her. they wanted to come up with a special way to show her how much they appreciate her. that is so sweet. it was definitely a different mother's day. trying to figure out how you could be there and show your love but not be there. i tried to order my mom breakfast from uber eats and they never showed up.

behind it. the first one is the stronger. the one that comes in today the best chance of bringing us wet weather and squeeze out what remaining moisture in the air. here's a look at future radar. 7:00 this morning and things are dry. i should say our commute is dry and even at noon up in lake mendocino and starting to get some rain and then as we head to the afternoon and evening hours and inland east bay looking pretty wet and then eventually work its way to those neighborhoods and scattered showers will continue during the overnight hours and not as widespread or as much yellow in them which would signify moderate showers as we head into tomorrow afternoon and evening. you can see them tapering. rainfall amounts all over the place depending on where some of these showers and some of the light rain hits you from a cole hdr o ahf early a half inc mo up in the north commute, pretty breezy up in the hills. if you have to drive through there, watch out. some will make it down to our

and we're just expecting some light rain and showers and maybe a touch of drizzle this morning as the atmosphere primes and gets ready for the wetter weather during the afternoon hours. we need to be careful. those roads are going to be slick. we'll talk more about that coming up. here's kumasi. >> thanks, mike. tomorrow governor newsom is talking specifics and that could include some dine-in restaurants. julian glover is live with what we are expecting. >> good morning, kumasi. we hope to learn more about the governor's vision of the future for dine-in restaurants and offices as he details part two of phase two of california's reopening and lifting of the restrictions across the state. we know so many restaurants have been struggling to stay afloat, even those that have been able to shift to delivery only during the crisis. governor newsom teased that the future of restaurants what they could look like including waiters wearing gloves and more

disposable menus and allow a percentage of seating capacity to create more spacing between tables. but what about face masks? there are still so many questions. >> we have a new checklist that goes through issues around hand washing, sanitation, how to address the needs of customers through pickups and how we can make the pickup and drop off process for deliveries as well as pickups for customers easier and safer. >> we hope to learn more about the checklist the governor mentioned tomorrow. a restaurant in burlingame already wots possible. before the governor announces the guidelines tuesday. installing glass barriers between tables and eight feet apart and opting for paper products and staggered times. the big question remains if questions in the bay area will be able to reopen as quickly under these new guidelines and we heard the governor say time

and time again they could be more restrictive than the state guidelines and our bay area counties certainly have been. reporting live this morning, julian glover, abc7 news. restaurant workers in the bay area are eagerly waiting for details of the governor's plan. phil matier reports that most restaurant jobs have fully or partially banished and in san francisco nearly 60,000 people who work in the industry may just be out of work. work has also stopped for more than 16,000 hotel employees. job losses in the arts and entertainment and retail and manufacturing, which includes tech jobs. and that's more than 166,000 people affected in the city. you can read phil's column in the "san francisco chronicle" every wednesday and sunday. a patchwork of rules of what is and what is not allowed and this comes as the pandemic inches closer to the west wing.

jobina has more details on this. jobina? >> thank you, kumasi. good morning. two white house staffers have tested positive for covid-19. first, it was the president's personal valet and then vice president mike pence's secretary. mike pence is expected to be at the white house today as new safety protocols are being considered, including social distancing during meetings and testing anyone who sees the president. this comes as 45 states ease restrictions even as the number of cases continue to rise in at least 15 of them. >> i think this is large and small are probably going to wind up leading this charge as we tempto r >> economically, the white house estimates things are only going to get worse before they get better. the treasury secretary says unemployment could reach 25%. the current rate is nearing 15%. reggie, i'll send it over to you. >> jobina, thank you. happening today, more states

are lifting some restrictions. here's a rundown. in michigan, all manufacturing workers can go back to work. sit down restaurants reopen in arkansas. barbershops ask s and salons i of florida reopen. and the governor has extended it now to may 25th. the u.s. is expected to accuse china of trying to hack and steal federal data on policy coronavirus vaccines and treatments. this according to the "new york times." they report that the fbi and the department of homeland security will issue a warning that china's most skilled hackers and spies are seeking advantages in this epidemic. "the times" says more than a doesn't countries have deployed hackers to find out what they can. despite positive trends in california to fight coronavirus one widely ruled upon projection says that california could see numbers go back on researchers for the university of washington institute for health metrics and evaluations

say california could see more than 4,000 covid-19 deaths by the end of august. that is up nearly 1,500 from last week's projection. researchers say the changes are a result of daily death and case data and easing of social distancing measures and steadily rising levels of mobility. elon musk has plenty of takers if he decides to move out of his manufacturing plant in fremont. musk threatened to move after they said the company could not resume making cars because of covid-19 restrictions. tesla is suing alameda county for violating due process. the lieutenant governor of utah tweeted we talked to tesla eagh brging more business to utah. musk received invitations from officials in georgia, texas and also from the mayor of palo alto. families with children who qualify for free or reduced lunches will get a one-time extra payment to buy food during this pandemic. the money will come on a debit

and mountain view and pacific 49, also. let's look at what it looks like for your commute at least. early sels woessential workers dry and you can see caution out there. just about every mode of transportation for today as the chances of wet weather increase this afternoon through the evening hours and so do the breezy conditions that are up in the hills right now once the rain starts to roll in, it will drag those down to where we live. look for increasing breezes and that's why the temperatures also dropped this afternoon after reaching 72 at 1:00 in the east bay. the breezes cool us down and the rain rolls in by at least 3:00. let's take a look at what is going on in the north bay. maybe a couple hours this morning and temperatures only in the upper 50s to low 60s and in san francisco, a couple hours also and then after 9:00, hour chances of getting wet increase as temperatures hang out in the low to possibly a mid 60 here and there.

>> following breaking news at the live desk this morning. comedian and actor jerry stiller has died. his son, ben stiller, said in a tweet that his father died of natural causes. he also says, quote, that his father was a great dad and grandfather and the most dedicated husband. he will be greatly missed. the veteran comedian began his career in the '50s as the partner of his wife. he had featured roles on "seinfeld" and "king of queens" and appeared in several hit films. stiller and his wife shared a star on the hollywood walk of fame in 2007. he was 92 years old. back to you guys. a 26-year-old surfer killed saturday in a rare shark attack off the santa cruz county coast is being remembered as an entrepreneur who turned his love for big waves into a career. ben kelly died five miles west of watsonville.

you are asked to contact the department of public health. as you know many small businesses are starting to reopen across the country, although some are facing unexpected challenges. the owner of a massachusetts ice cream shop said he had to close one day after opening because customers were harassing his employees. he posted on their website that all orders have to be placed an hour in advance, but he says not everyone listened and instead took their anger out on his workers when they got busy. >> one of my best workers quit yesterday at the end of her shift. but the words she was called and the language, you wouldn't even say in a men's locker room and to say it to a 17-year-old kid. they should be ashamed of themselves. >> yikes. for now the shop is doing limited car deliveries until it can figure out a new plan to safely reopen. the station house cafe in point reyes station is shutting its doors after 46 years. in a facebook post management
