now at 5:00, reopening restaurants, office spaces and malls. governor newsom is expected to release guidelines for these public spaces today. many of us stuck at home are wondering if we will be able to travel this summer. local and state officials now have an answer. it's tuesday, may 12th. good morning, reggie. >> good morning, kumasi. how are you doing? >> i am well, friend. how about you? >> good. i feel healthy and safe, so we are off to a good start. mike, that rain came exactly when you said it would yesterday. >> i appreciate that, reggie. yes, it's nice when mother nature lines up with the forecast. let's talk about what is going to happen today. we have drizzle to light rain this morning. it's pretty steady in some areas, and it will turn over to scattered showers. that's why we will be a 1 on the storm impact scale. it will be breezy and up to a quarter of an inch of rain is possible.

you can see everything is pretty much concentrated around the bay from the san mateo bridge southward and it's leaking over to the south bay valleys and tying to push into the south bay where it's dry where we are looking at san jose, 87 just south of the mineta and san jose international airport. so mid to upper 50s and we will stay at the upper 50s at the coast, and mid to upper 60s at 4:00. our best chance of showers are at noon, and almost by 7:00. later today we should be getting more information from the governor about the next phase of reopening businesses, and that includes parts of restaurants we have not seen in a long time. amy hollyfield is live for us in walnut creek this morning. >> reporter: reggie, don't get too excited about summing here to a restaurant soon, the bay area is being cautious and

>> thank you, amy. this is not a record the warriors wanted to set and that is the team laying off more than 1,700 people in march, and that is the biggest cut that we have seen at a single bay area location during this pandemic. according to "the chronicle" sz, those employees who had to leave work are going to return as soon as chase center is allowed to start hosting events again. the warriors are also providing grants and payments to those employees that have been laid off. a rare illness possibly caused by covid-19 is affecting more kids across the u.s., including a baby here in california. kate larson has more on what the baby's mother and doctors want others to know. >> the rashes were getting very big, and her hands and legs started kind of swelling. >> in march a 6-yea a 6-yea developed kawasaki's disease.

she was being treated and she was diagnosed with covid. >> it was a very interesting case. i mentioned it to my colleagues around the country back when it happened, and they said have you seen this, and they said not at all. >> in new york there are at least 93 cases of what is being called pediatric multiinflammatory syndrome. >> the main thing we worry about with kawasaki, there could be true complications, and that includes inflammation of the arteries, especially those around the heart. >> before coronavirus how often would you see a kawasaki case? >> kau wysocky tends to cluster. they can happen in clusters in some states and not other

415-456-7093. the san francisco public health director says this is not the time to go on vacation, even if it's just to visit your family and friends. officials ask everybody, limit their travel to essential travel only. governor newsom says while there are signs of some progress the number of cases and deaths remains an obstacle. this morning former vice president joe biden said president trump should be following social distancing orders. jobina fortson is at the live desk with more information about what the presidential candidate is saying this morning. >> yeah, former vice president joe biden spoke exclusively with "gma" and said although the pandemic has stopped his campaign events, he is staying strong, and he added polls show

him leading over president trump. the former vp also criticized the president for not listening to his own administration's guidelines. >> i am following the rules. the president should follow the rules instead of showing up at places without masks and the whole thing. when i campaign i am usually the first one there and the last one to leave, and i am not trying to avoid it, but i am trying to set an example as to how we should proceed in terms of dealing with the health and economic crisis. >> also address the allegations of misconduct with tara reade, and he also added women should be believed when they come forward. let's take a look at what is going on, temperature wise putting together our inland east bay neighborhoods. what you will see are 50s.

as you get up in the hills, there's a chance we could have drizzle, and even a little bit of steady light rain developing there as the atmosphere is super saturated below 5,000 feet. don't be surprised if you run into that. a little fog developing along the coast, and that's the gray you see there, and most of us in the mid to upper 50s, a milder morning. let's talk about what to do today if you can if you like or if you want, you have been out exercising? today is another day where if you are spending the day outside, you could have drizzle, and if you did not get to the plants in the garden, do it today. here's a look at the north bay. we are stuck in the 50s until 1:00. a good chance of rain on the 11:00 hour and then low 60s for a couple hours before we drop back down to 59 during the evening. san francisco will stay in the 50s with mostly cloudy conditions. the drizzle and dampness with

taper after 9:00. we will have scattered showers and 60s for the rest of the afternoon hours. i heard some reports of light rain around lake merritt early this morning, so it's pretty slick out there. we will head into the mid-60s this afternoon with scattered showers, and then at 7:00 about 71 degrees. we will look at a chance for rain and the weekend rain coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast. let's go back to jobina and talk about the commute. yes, checking in on our essential workers heading in on the slick roads, and this is the san mateo bridge, and the chp issued high-wind advisories for the bay bridge, and the altamont pass, if you are taking 580 be aware there, and high winds are reported on the richmond san rafael bridge, but the chp has

not given a formal wind advisory for that area yet. and it looks like there's raindrops on the camera showing you the sannd p making their way to the peninsula there, and so it's the first time we have seen brake lights out there, so slow down and be careful. and then president trump's attorneys will argue he has immunity into his private businesses as long as he is still in office. the new york prosecutor says he wants them as part of a probe into possible financial crimes in that state. the court will debate this issue, and that means the public can listen in real-time. and the board of supervisors president along with the san francisco youth commission will introduce an amendment today for

the bay bridge where we have a high wind advisory this morning. number seven, mlb owners will submit a plan to the players' union for games to start in july, but governor newsom has not promised the five teams here in the bay area would be able to play in their home ball parks. and then surveillance video shows inmates passing and drinking from the same hot water cup, and this resulted in 21 coronavirus cases. investigators are trying to identify who participated, saying they tried raising their oral temperatures before getting temperature checks and even sniffed from a shared face mask. police officers in fresno were confronted by a crowd in front of a restaurant that reopened in de defiance of the shelter-in-place

order. this body cam shows people blocking the officer's entry into the shop, and he did did through the group beforehand cuffing the man. the owner of the restaurant was fined $5,000. look at these people. thousands of people in county defied the shelter-in-place order by going to a rodeo for mother's day. the event had the blessing of the county sheriff that said he would not enforce the stay-ahome order. extra hand sanitizer stations were brought in and food and alcohol service was suspended. and then families are asking when is it appropriate for

at the live desk, the democratic party is reportedly making changes to this summer's convention. according to "the washington post," we are learning this morning it could be a limited in-person event or virtual event in august. delegates would be able to take part even if they cannot attend in person. the convention was originally scheduled for july but pushed back to august hoping the restrictions will be eased during the coronavirus pandemic. house speaker, nancy pelosi, said the week-long event could be held forne possibly at an outdoor venue. all public school students in san francisc will get a wellness check call from the district.

san francisco unified said it plans to contact every one of its 54,000 students and their families to conduct wellness checks. the district has been coordinating care and offering resources to students. staff members are starting to reach out to members they have not been in contact with since the shelter-in-place order went into effect back in march. we heard about drive-in movies, but what about drive-in graduations? as of this morning they are a thing. they are allowed in san mateo county and it's the new alternate for countless high school seniors. let's look at how schools and students are getting creative. >> san mateo county wants to save graduations. by tuesday a new order whim all will get together. >> it's one of those events that kids won't easily forget. >> the county superintendent says it's a way to recognize the thousands of students whose

senior year was impacted by covid-19. the order limits the number of vehicles to 200 and three hours, and also requiring a set plan and security. >> it's one of those orders that feels good. we worked hard to make an additional opportunity for students to celebrate graduations. >> the county event center is one venue now offering graduation packages. staff would use the same format as a drive-in theater. the events would be held in the west parking lot, able to hold 600 cars, leaving plenty of space to social distance. >> we can put up the cones and put op stage and let the teachers speak, and provide the venue so that a school can just come in, pop it up super quickly and really reserve that right of passage. >> a graduating senior here says with every missed milestone, she only wishes she could go back and share this message at the start of senior year. >> don't try to rush it.
