4:18 am
sunday we saw new york governor andrew cuomo take that nasal swab test like a champion. he says it's pretty easy. as many states ramp up testing, what are you hearing about availability, and please, tell us the difference between the nasal swab and the antibody test. which should we get? >> so the availability of testing is getting much better now. states around the united states are getting more of that pcr test which is the nasal swab you saw governor cuomo use yesterday or demonstrate yesterday, and that tells us if you actively have the virus. now, an antibody test is very different. it's a blood test and that tells you if you already fought the virus and your body had a chance to create antibodies toward it. the tits are gd but they're not perfect. right now in the market, kenneth, there are about 120 of these tests which were rapidly approved but only a handful of these tests are actively being studied to see if they're truly accurate.
4:19 am
so your best bet is to go with the nasal swab or the pcr test to see if you have the virus. >> where are we with this antigen test that was recently approved and the saliva tests? are these becoming more widely available? >> yes. the antigen test is not as widely available but that's going to be the game changer because that looks at the protein particles of the virus and the results can come back in under 20 minutes. so that's where we need to be, but we are making progress toward that. and the saliva test is already out there and i actually have a home kit that you can actually order from your provider, and it will come in the mail. >> several weeks ago we reported on the number of sailors on the "uss roosevelt" becoming infected. now we've learned that at least 13 sailors who seemed to have recovered tested positive again. this all raises the question can you get this twice? what do we know? >> this is puzzling a lot of us in the field right now.
4:20 am
this was also seen in south korea where about 2% of those who actually tested positive tested positive again. first they were actually cleared and then tested positive again and i think the thing is that the pcr test is very sensitive. it can actually pick up the remnants of the old viral particles, but the question also arises, could the virus actually be making more copies of itself again. >> our thanks to dr. ali. major league baseball is outlining new safety proposals to start the season including no spitting, no mascots, and players showering at home instead of in the locker room. the players union still has to approve the plan. coming up, the most expensive sneaker ever and it's not even new. also ahead, the man who makes a 14-hour trip to costco every single week. happen every. people are surprising themselves the moment they realize they can du more
