accuweather, and it's a minimal threat and that will be the theme as we go throughout the day today. we are tracking an isolated shower throughout the afternoon, and live doppler 7 showing you in the east bay, we have been seeing one shower around fremont slowly moving off to the south and east and it's moving at 15 miles per hour, so around 6:31 a.m. near milpitas, and around mt. hamilton around 7:07. san jose camera right now, mostly cloudy skies. we will find on the day planner today an isolated chance of a shower in the afternoon, mainly in the hills, and temperatures in the 60s and 70s, guys. >> drew, thank you. sports fans have been hungry for their teams to come back as soon as possible and yesterday the governor gave a little bit of light, surprising a lot of us that he seems to be indicating that sports could come back a little faster than we expected. julian glover is live with more on how the giants are reacting.

>> we like these kind of surprises, right, that we are moving in the right direction? good news yesterday by governor gavin newsom that pro sports could be back as early as the first week of june. that's pretty soon, i'd say. the catch is there will not be fans in the stands and no live audiences when pro sports does resume. so much is still to be figured out, but before we could see live sports on tv, players have to get back in shape and back to practicing, and according to espn, nfl training facilities are starting to reopen today in some states to personnel only. no players, no coaches. the nba did the same thing last friday, and the mlb could soon be following suit. >> we want to be careful about public health, and be

has been testing its vaccine on 45 people and it appears to be working. all 45 subjects developed the same level of antibodies as somebody that recovered from covid-19. >> we took the first 45 subjects, and are the antibodies neutralizing the virus, and in all cases they were, which is encouraging. >> researchers will give the vaccine to 600 test patients and they expect to enter phase three in july, and that study will involve 10,000 patients. we know there's a dire need to try and get a vaccine as the number of coronavirus cases in the united states continues to rise and states begin to reopen. >> thank you. contra costa county is entering phase two today, which means stores can offer curbside

pickup. santa clara county will transition to phase two on friday. all right. so basically santa clara county says the collective effort has significantly reduced the spread in the county so they have a little more head room now to cautiously take another step forward. also in downtown campbell, bombshell boutique recently started an online storefront but still business is down 80%. >> i miss my employees and clientele and the campbell community. retail business is hard on a regular day, so you definitely have to work for it and definitely have to have that passion inside you still. >> county health officials say the number of new cases has been stable and decreasing and social distancing efforts have really helped to reduce the spread, bu

continue to protect those who are most vulnerable to this virus. napa is hoping to keep moving forward with reopening with the governor slowly relaxing more and more restrictions, and there's hope that restaurants will be able to reopen soon and allow customers inside. napa has been through a lot in recent years when it comes to disasters, but the pandemic is pushing things to the brink. there's one thing just about everybody wants to see open, and as you can imagine, that is the wineries. a lot of people feel like until the wineries open back up it's not going to do people there much good. napa county filed documents to show that it's ready to allow restaurants to open back up. more states, including ours, of course, lifting the restrictions during the pandemic, and by tomorrow all 50 states will have partially reopened. gyms and salons are open if you head to texas. new york's governor says pro sports will soon be allowed to pay without fans, and people have mixed feelings about going

taking an anti-malaria drug toth coronavirus. > kumasi. let's start off with a live look from the exploratorium camera, and the sun is up but sharing with the sky a fair amount of cloud cover. over the next 12 hours, first thing, the chance is best in the east bay this morning, and then as we head into the afternoon, that chance really transitions into the north bay. most cities will remain dry but we are still unsettled today. temperatures in the mid-60s to mid-70s later on today, that sun going down at 8:16. want to show you a closer look at what i am talking about as we head into the afternoon. by 2:00 p.m., you can see the shower instigated by the daytime heating really in the north bay. you can see in the hills of the north bay, most areas in the 60s and remain dry and we will keep

the chance of a shower through the evening. highs today, slightly warmer than yesterday. about 64 in the city. we will hit 68 in oakland and 71 for a high in san jose, and 72 the high in santa rosa. >> thank you, drew. at abc7 we are committed to building a better bay area as we all survive this coronavirus pandemic, and we are doing that by focusing on four important topics, and one is the economy. starting today the economy will get a boost in the east bay. contra costa county is joining seven others in phase two of the state's reopening. amy hollyfield is in walnut creek where businesses are getting ready. >> reporter: even this tattoo parlor in walnut creek is excited to reopen today, and it's a partial reopening and they have been closed for two months. tattoos and piercings are not allowed in this phase, so that's, you know, not going -- they are not going to be able to

sell that here at zebra's, that's a ways down the road. but they can sell juewelry or gift cards curbside. they are excited to come face-to-face with their customers, even if it's curbside. >> we want our presence to be felt. we don't want people to think we are gone and disappeared from the face of the earth. we are here, and i don't know how we can survive. >> reporter: restaurants are still waiting for their phase. phase three is when they can reopen to customers, at least coming inside for small gatherings, and phase four is when big gatherings will be allowed. that's what bourbon highway country bar and kitchen here in walnut creek relies on, large gatherings, so they are still waiting to find out when and if they can afford to reopen, and there's a long list of safety precautions restaurants have to

put in place before allowed to reopen. cases of covid-19 have gone down in this county but the health department wants to take it slow and make sure it's safe, and don't forget to wras amy hollyfield, walnut creek, abc7 news. customers can't go inside so there's little personal interaction when shoppers want to buy something or look at an item, and stores have to be close to a sidewalk so customers can get their purchases while social distancing. new signs of life at an iconic spot in the south bay. most of the san pedro market has opened up. orders have to be made online and picked up at the st. john's street entrance. the reopening of dine-in restaurants and the new look of

our local down towns are things we are committed to covering as we all look to build a better bay area in the post coronavirus world. we spoke with the owner of a south american restaurant on main street and he envisions a future where local eateries move things mostly outside and close parts of main street on certain days. city leaders are on the same page with the plan. >> we're already talking to our downtown association and some of our local merchants about how we might be able to make that happen here in downtown pleasanton. >> this kind of open air main street is a similar concept to what other bay area cities, like berkeley and san jose, are already moving towards. and then for the first time since early march we have gone in the entire bay area without a covid-19 death for two straight days. let's see if we can make it

three. health officials in the nine county area recorded no deaths on sunday or monday, and that's the first time that happened since march 10th through the 12th. the region only had one double digit death day in the last two weeks, however, sunday the bay area did report the largest one-day spike in cases, 196, since early this month. as the entire bay area is ready to enter the stage two later this week, the governor says the rest of the state is speeding ahead, and he is expected to give 53 of the state's 58 counties to move on through, if they want to. then he gave encouraging news after that. >> our economy will open up again if we hold these trend lines in the next number of weeks and that includes, for example, getting a hair cut, pro

sports in that first week or so of june. >> did you hear that? hair cuts. we will have much more on the sports part of this coming up, including reaction from giant's ceo, larry baer, in just a few minutes. president trump says he has been taking a controversial drug which he thinks can prevent coronavirus, despite evidence to the contrary. jobina fortson at the live desk with details on that. jobina. >> thank you, reggie. good morning. a drug called hydroxychloroquine is used to treat malaria, and many of you have heard of it by now and president trump says he has been using it for the past week and a half as a form of preventative treatment for the coronavirus, and the fda warned against using hydroxychloroquine to treat covid-19 outside of clinical hospitals and trials, because it could cause heart problems. this morning on "gma," dr. jennifer ashton says she would not recommend the drug for the

a little drizzle along the peninsula right now. we are moving into south san francisco, even into sfo, light drizzle. about 6:51 a.m., we will see a light shower in pacifica, and then at 7:20, san mateo, you can find a light sprinkle. and then that this area of low pressure here on the satellite, even though it's on the border of nevada and california, it's still close enough to bring us a threat of an isolated shower throughout the day, so let's break down your tuesday with the 12-hour day planner. first thing in the morning, the best chance of finding the shower as we showed you on live doppler 7 is in the east bay. as we advance the clock in the afternoon, that threat will shift towards the north bay. we are talking about the hills of the north bay, and we'll find the best chance of the isolated shower. temperatures by the afternoon, a little warmer than we were today in the mid-60s to mid-70s, but,
