i appreciate you trying to downplay it a little bit but in all seriousness, it's coming next week. the weekend will be a little appetizer and just a little slice of some of that warmth and get dangerous next week. for today our last comfortable day in my accuweather seven-day forecast. breezy along sfo and along the coast. those will taper as we head along the rest of the morning and they'll come back later on this afternoon and you can see some of the high clouds and a few low clouds that are lingering around. beautiful shot from sutro tower. sun is already up at 6:00 this morning. 49 to 53. that will be our temperature spread at 7:00. you can see near 60 at the coast today because of the sea breeze. upper 60s for the rest of us at noon and enjoy a comfortable 7:00 this evening 67 to 70. we'll talk more about that heat coming up. let's get back to kumasi. >> thanks, mike. new overnight a car rear ended a patrol vehicle in hayward. the driver crossed several lanes that were closed on 880 and then

hit the back of a parked chp vehicle. it happened just south of the a street off ramp around 1:30 this morning. two officers that were inside the patrol car are okay, thankfully. one person in the other car was checked out for minor injuries. as we head into memorial day weekend, you can expect our parks, beaches and trails to really fill up with people looking to get out and enjoy the nice weather. but with some parts of the stay-at-home order being lifted you might be confused about what is off limits and what is opened. amy hollyfield is live with an idea on how they will keep people apart. good morning. >> good morning. looks very different this year. to help you remember to stay away. at least six feet apart from each other. this is at the marina green and this is here to help you space out. in san francisco, you will also see them at dolores park and

washington square. the rec and parks department drew the circles. ten foot circles and they're six feet apart. they aren't getting great reviews. here's what one resident had to say this morning. he is questioning whether or not they are necessary. >> the circles are kind of, honestly, a little offensive in the sense that i think people have the ability to be re themselves and from what i've seen in the last, you know, couple months in this area people have done a pretty good job of keeping a distance. >> no circles at the beach. that's because you really aren't welcome to hang out at the beach. now the beaches are open in san francisco and san mateo but, you are supposed to keep it moving. you are supposed to be there for exercise and a walk or a run. that's it. you can't put down a blanket or have a picnic or sun bathe and they're trying to make sure the beaches are for the locals. the parking lots are closed. this is an effort to keep out of

towners from crowding the beaches and in marin county the beaches aren't even open.don't pack that sunscreen, definitely a very different holiday weekend than usual. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, news. >> important reminder, thank you, amy. lake sonoma is reopening some trails and parking lots today. that includes trails off rock pile road as well as south lake trail road. the boat launch beach and recreation areas still remain closed. pretty much a similar story it will reopen with restrictions in place. boat launches and rv parks are open, but those tent camp grounds and cabins and invisitor center, that will remain shut down. all visitors are required to follow social distancing guidelines. san leandro is putting restrictions in chabot parks.

group activities are also discouraged. so, leaders want the parks to be used only for exercising or walking as long as you're social distancing. parking lots at both parks and the san leandro marina are closed today through monday. president trump ordered flags to be flown at half staff to honor those who have died from covid-19. the death toll in the u.s. is expected to pass 100,000 before the end of the month. now an abc7 news live desk update. >> at the live desk, the devastating toll of the coronavirus is far reaching. a new abc news poll finds the impact of the pandemic is particularly hard among black americans and latinos. so, here are the numbers we're learning this morning. 30% of black adults and 26% of latino adlults say they know a victim of the coronavirus who died either from the disease or from complications related to the disease. for white americans that figure is just 10%.

temperature checked that morning. ford warned the white house about the face covering policy before his arrival. the company said he complied during a private viewing of ford cars but then removed it for the remainder of his visit. >> in this back area and i didn't want, i did have it in the back area. i did put a mask on. >> this all comes as we get a new idea about how americans feel about the president's response to covid-19. according to a new abc news/ipsos poll only 39% of americans approve of his handling of the crisis compared to 60% who disapprove. kuma kumasi, i'll send it over to you. this morning alaska will reopen with only a handful of restrictions remaining in place. all businesses, churches and sports facilities will be allowed to operate at 100% capacity. some social distancing guidelines and restrictions will still apply, though. so, if you're thinking about

heading to lake tahoe this weekend, just don't do it because you could get a really big fine. the area is close to everybody except property owners. eldorado issued an ordinance back in march banning visitors and this was all an effort to enforce shelter-in-place orders. if you violate the order, you could face a $1,000 fine. >> very difficult for someone in the tourism industry to say tis, but we do ask that you do not come up until we're ready. >> police say they will be out patrolling over the weekend and so far four fines have been issued to hotels and short-term rental properties in south lake tahoe for violating this order. the centers for disease control and prevention now estimating that about 35% of people infected with covid-19 are asymptomatic. researchers say about 0.4% of people who develop coronavirus will die from it. more than 3% of people who show symptoms will require hospitalizations. the numbers are part of a new

all right. welcome back, 6:24 on a friday. here's a look at the beach forecast for saturday. a lot of mid to upper 60s until you get around the monterey bay 70 to 77 there. little warmer as we head towards sunday. mid to upper 70s in the monterey bay and monday is going to be one of our warmest days on our beaches but never gets hot thanks to a local sea breeze. 68 to 73 and then you head down to the monterey bay 75 to 83. sunburn time 15 to 20 minutes. don't play around. kumasi. >> thanks, mike. so, one of s s iconic taco shops is reopening for takeout. la taqueria in the mission will start serving up tacos and burritos again next wednesday may 27th. new safety precautions in place, including the shop now takes

debit and credit cards. a couple menu limitations because of the supply chain like fewer flavors and no beef tongue or head. okay. the existence of good will's bay area donation centers and thrift stores is in jeopardy because of the pandemic. good will gets 80% of its revenue from the sale of donated goods but right now those sales amount to zero. and because they each employ more than 500 people, most of its 14 california locations do not qualify for federal aid. >> if we can't figure this out to get some federal assistance, i think that we will see some sites closed definitely. we'll also see potentially some good wills having to file for bankruptcy and restructure. >> salvation army is also preparing for donated goods. the items will all be placed in separate areas for at least 72 hours to make sure that any potential contamination can dissipate.

francisco fire department. this vehicle is fully engulfed. there are at least two lanes blocked. you can expect traffic to come almost to a halt right when you get around treasure island because the isis is near the treasure island off ramp. thankfully the people inside the car were able to get off to the right-hand shoulder. they have not given us an update when this will be clear and open but, obviously, you can see this is still an active situation. you can expect delays and, please, give our first responders some space so they can get this out of the way. back to you guys. >> we'll keep watching that, jobina. happening today, santa clara county officially enters phase two of reopening. today is also the first day that residents there will be required to wear face covering when at any busines or public transit. abc7 news reporter lauren martinez is live in san francisco with more on this. good morning, lauren. >> good morning, kumasi. earlier this week county leaders said new covid cases are stable and decreasing. starting today, retailers can

now open for curbside pickup. now, in order to reopen, retail, manufacturing and warehouse businesses need to cap employee density at one person per 300 square feet of space. all transactions with customers must be done outside. also starting today in santa clara county, the new public health order states that residents must wear a face covering when at any business and on public transit. the san jose city council is considering taking it a step further and requiring almost everyone to wear a face covering whenever they're in public. >> we're trying to protect one another and encourage people to wear masks and i'm all for that, but i don't want this to turn out to be a big gripe session and, you know, a big burden on our police department. >> the proposal does make room for exceptions such as not having to wear face covering when exercising outdoors. children under the age of 6

would be exempt. now the city council is expected to vote on that proposal in early june. reporting live from santa clara, lauren martinez, abc7 news. happening today, solano county becomes the second county in the bay area to move even further into stage two of reopening. at 6:00 this morning dine-in restaurants, shopping malls, swap meets can open up with social distancing in place. the county got the go ahead in vacaville they're scheduled to begin on june 15th. napa county was the first bay area county to go further into phase two. that happened earlier this week. this morning, one of the nation's top experts is warning of a second wave of the coronavirus. this comes as all 50 states are starting to lift restrictions and move back to prepandemic life. jobina is at the live desk with details. >> thank you, julian. good morning. dr. robert redfield, the head of the cdc is saying it is, quote, very likely that there will be a

second wave of the coronavirus. he is pointing to the southern hemisphere and its cooling temperatures and spike in cases. he is not ruling out a second lockdown. he does say that the cdc is committed to using the time that we have now to get the nation as overprepared as possible. dr. anthony fauci is encouraging americans to take precautions. >> as you open up, even under normal circumstances and in the best of circumstances, you are going to see infections. the critical issue for a successful opening is how effectively you address those blips. >> a big part of fighting covid-19 are antibody tests to protect consumers the fda identified 27 tests it views as problematic and they are putting that information on their website. kumasi, i'll send it over to you. >> thank you, jobina. education is one of four key areas that abc7 is committed to building a better bay area. it along with our health, economy and changing workplaces

are reshaping the bay area. oakland parents are being asked if they think their child is academically ready to move up to the next grade. the nonprofit go public schools is just one of many organizations working with oakland unified on this survey. >> families are going to need that information and schools are, too. so let them plan around intervention and knowing where to allocate resources to make sure that we recover from this pandemic in the most like equitable, just way possible. >> just as important for the district is knowing how parents feel about reopening schools. so, some of the options include continuing with distance learning. students starting classes earlier in july or having kids in school for half a day with some remote learning. in a ndmark decision, the uc system is getting rid of s.a.t. and a.c.t. requirements. the plan would be phad several years with the test being optional next year.

the goal is for uc to develop its own test. you see plans to eliminate the a.c.t. and s.a.t. in-state for students by 2025, but critics worry it will lead to grade inflation and admission of less prepared students. now an bc7 news live desk update. >> at the live desk. the santa clara fire department is trying to figure out what caused a grass fire that spread to a strip mall. we'll get right to the video here. the fire was reported around 11:30 last night on el camino real. flames burning the adult world book store. an adult book store and a gas meter was also on fire. crew shut down the gas line and doused the flames. they were using a thermal imaging camera to make sure no one was inside. officials say the adult book store has minimal damage on the inside. and i will send it over to you, julian. >> all right, thank you, jobina. celebrating graduates. we'll tell you about the virtual way one bay area university is

not quite as aggressive as it was yesterday. let's take a look at what is going on on the peninsula. 56 at 8:00 and 67 at noon and low 70s for several hours this afternoon and 64 you need a light jacket if you're heading out. 68 at noon and then we'll see full-on sunshine late this afternoon and help push us into the mid 70s by 4:00 and 65 at 8:00. for the east bay valleys, this is as mild as it gets. 62 at 8:00 and 72 at noon and upper 70s for several hours this afternoon. and down to a very nice 70 at 8:00 with sunshine. when we come back, triple digits possibly three days. i'll show you that in the accuweather seven-day forecast. first, let's get an update on the bay bridge. jobina? >> you can see what is going on on the upper deck of the bay bridge if you're traveling in the westbound direction. a van caught fire there. according to the fire department, the flames are now out but smoke in the area.

as you look at this now, smoke is gone, too, which is great. those fire trucks are still there and it does look like no injuries were involved here, which is good. people inside the van were able to get out and head over to the right-hand shoulder. there are still two lanes blocked. you can expect very slow speeds as you begin to approach treasure island and then traffic will kind of stop for a moment and you can see cars are beginning to make their way around the crews here which is good news. earlier at the top of 6:30 here, we did see a lot of smoke coming up and glad to see that out. everybody is okay. the tow truck arrived at the scene and hopefully get this cleared

down in a residential area near the airport. conflicting reports from the officials there. the mayor says everyone onboard died but civil aviation officials now say at least two people survived. karachi's mayor also says five or six houses were destroyed. witnesses say it appeared the pilot attempted to try and land two or three times before the plane crashed. julian, over to you. all right. thanks, jobina. i'll take it. happening today. actress lori loughlin and her husband are set to appear in court in the college admissions case. the couple agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy charges. a virtual appearance because of the pandemic. the couple was accused last year of paying $500,000 in bribes to get their two daughters into usc as fake crew recruits. loughlin agreed to two months in prison and a fine and probation.

as we head into the memorial day weekend, you can expect parks, beaches and trails to really fill up with people looking to get out and enjoy the nice weather and maybe cool down but you might be confused about what is off limits and what's open now. amy hollyfield is live at the marina there in san francisco with what you need to know. hey, amy. >> hi, julian. yeah, the parks are open here in san francisco. you can come here to marina green, but they want you to remember to not sit close to others. so, there are circles out here now on the lawn to help you stay away. so, you stay in your circle and the other group stays in their circle. this is going to help people space out. in san francisco, you will also see them at dolores park and washington square. the rec and parks department drew the circles. ten-foot circles six feet apart. one woman we talked to this morning said she is expecting it to be crowded this weekend here at the marina green and we asked her what she thinks about these new circles. >> i'm hopeful they will help people, but i don't know.

so, i think, yeah, i just hope they do. i hope everyone stays safe and do youhinke oclces. like? >> i think it will be crowded. >> no circles at the beach because you really aren't supposed to hang out at the beach. the beaches are open in san francisco and san mateo but you're supposed to keep it moving. they do not want you to pitch a tent or lay down a blanket and relax and hang out, sun bathe, picnic. they just want you to walk, run and get out of there. they're trying to make sure the beaches are for the locals. so those parking lots will be closed. they expect you to bike or walk in. an effort to keep out of towners from crowding the beaches. in marin county the beaches are closed. don't forget your mask this weekend. you're expected to wear your mask and be six feet apart. a very different looking holiday weekend than usual. amy hollyfield, abc7 news.

>> thank you, amy. now to your morning money report. two-thirds of tech workers would consider leaving the bay area if they could permanently work from home. the social network blind surveyed 2,800 bay area irk withers and they asked if they would consider relocating if they could work from home as much as possible. get this 66% of people in the bay area said yes. 16% said they would consider moving but still would like to stay in california and about 16% said that they would consider moving out of the country. 34% of people said, though, they want to stay right here in the bay area. facebook offices will remain mostly empty for the rest of 2020. in a live stream meeting, mark zuckerberg said 95% of the company worldwide is currently working remotely. most employees will be able to work from home for the rest of the year. zuckerberg says he expects over the next five to ten years that half of facebook could be working remotely full time. and right now we're taking a live look at the new york stock

exchange as trading gets under way this morning. we are down about 120 points. well, it looks like prime day is being delayed. according to the "wall street journal" amazon is reportedly u discount sales event from july to september. and this is because of delivery and staffing shortages brought on by this pandemic. amazon has been struggling for months to respond to rush of orders since stay-at-home orders went into effect. happening today, san jose state university will launch the class of 2020 graduate recognition website in lieu of the traditional graduation ceremony. it will give graduates a chance to share personal slides that include their name, degree and any honors. the degree for the eight colleges will be available through the summer. the websites are not a replacement for a live commencement ceremony that they've worked so hard for. graduates will have the opportunity to return to campus and actually walk the stage at a future commencement ceremony possibly in december or maybe

accuweather highlights. last comfortable day with slightly breezy afternoon. moderate to high heat index. that's the heat risk next week and it will be the hottest and longest heat wave so far this year. here's a look at another dry cold front moving through. that's what is going to hold the heat away. we've had this very progressive omega block pattern on either side of that omega block. that's where you get the unsettled weather and the rain and the cold front and the dry cold front today. but guess where that high pressure is going? yeah, it's going to slide east right over top of us and then once parked on top of us really hot away from the coast. coast today 62 at half moon bay and 66 in san francisco and low to mid 70s around the bay and mid to upper 70s most inland neighborhoods. upper 40s in our inland valleys and along the coast where it won't be as breezy as this morning. upper 40s to low 50s for most of the bay. let's jump in to monday and you can see the 90s spreading to all of our inland neighborhoods. even some mid and upper 80s

morning coming in, we're learning that the bay bridge metering lights at the toll plaza are on. this is the first time those lights have come on since the shelter-in-place order because usually we see people breeze right through here. speeds are down to about two miles per hour. you can see definitely there looks like pretty much at a standstill for everyone who is trying to approach treasure island right now and make their way through the tunnel. expect delays. we have not been given an estimated time to when all lanes will reopen. this started around 6:17 this morning and, obviously, the damage has been done. i will continue to follow this for you all throughout the morning. but the good news is, no injuries reported and the fire is out. kumasi. >> thanks, jobina. we haven't seen steph curry on the court since march but the warriors star really active on social media and he tweeted a link to a vlog and here's a look at the currys in quarantine.
