building a better bay area for a safe and secure future, this is abc7. you heard it here. we brought it as breaking news as flames first shot out of pier 45 at the iconic fishermen's wharf, quickly becoming much more. firefighters still at the scene overnight as the investigation continues for a possible cause. the fire's destruction the last >>da hehe fishing anddust nee latest on that fire in a moment. but first let's have a look at the forecast with lisa argen. good morning. >> good morning to you.

it's beautiful out there. little haze and some fog but otherwise clear and cool. we have a few 60s around the bay, getting mild out there. few from a golden gate bridge where it is in the 50s downtown, 55 at the coast, 60 in ill guy. you're 47 this morning. so good recovery so far. you see the haze, fog. lower 60s in napa, certainly the north bay and fog from this and vantage point. 60 in santa cruz and 80 by the beach. mid-80s around the by by 4:00, few 90s and a just shy of 70 along the coast. beautiful day and certainly warmer than yesterday. we are clear and milder tonight but the big heat, that starts tomorrow. detailed look at the seven-day outlook, which includes more hot days than not. liz? we were the first to bring you this breaking news live on abc7 mornings, you're seeing the images absolutely stunning. sky 7 was also overhead to show

it all. the early morning four-alarm fire sending smoke across the bay area. learning about long-landing impacts. the cause is under investigation and police say the integrity of the pier 45 is still up in the air, as it's critical ar seafo and pelere jus trying to get by now because of the pandemic, and now this. >> reporter: at the heart of fisherman's wharf, pier 45 he golfed in intensive flames. 155 firefighters battled the fire from the ground and the water. one taken to the hospital with severe cuts. the fire was reported around 4:40 and took 8rso contain. >> our hearts are broken for the fishermen 6789 we're glad there was no lost of life. >> reporter: the pier has four structures. one destroyed.

that houses museum space, office space and storage rooms for fishermen and seafood companies. >> it's a lost good day of business. it means a lot of restaurants and a lot of our home delivery customers aren't going to be able to do what they were planning to do for their memorial day picnics and barbecues or whatever >> reporter: a crucialsi equipment. >> i lost probably $15,000 worth much fishing equipment. maybe two trucks. looks like one or two more might be damaged. >> reporter: the fire destroyed corporate office space for red and white fleet, a family owned tour boat company since 1982. >> it sort of feels like the triple whammy. >> reporter: they seized boats n 19th for shelter in place for covid. >> we let go and struggled thereafter and now this. we'll get through this.

what we really need, frankly, is get people back out on the bay aain. >> reporter: part of the pier is used for commercial fishering, where they sell the catch to processors. but they have to wait. >> any vessels out there are typically equipped for ice to keep them for at least a couple of days. we want to work with the fishermen and we want to work with everyone in the area to bring the area back but in order to do so, we need to do it safely. >> reporter: in san francisco, lauren martinez, abc7 news. >> as we told you, this fire was just feet from an important piece of history docked there, the ss jeremiah o'brien. firefighters managed to holdthe weekend. the ship's captain is beyond grateful. >> it sounds corny at times but my first reaction is it's a miracle. because of the fire department. >> reporter: up until the

tomorrow governor gavin newsom is expected to lay out grinds for places of worship to resume modified in-person worships as well as next-phase steps for phase three. >> this is not months and months of a permanent state. it's a dynamic state. every week, every week, we will be making modifications we anticipate to that stay-at-home order. >> reporter: his comments came after president trump deemed churches and other houses of worship essential and called on governors to allow them to will he open immediately. governor newsom is also expected to announce professional sports and hair salons can resume as early as next week. he added rooms would be able to reopen when they can hold the transition. and now back to the estates of wine country, wineries and breweries opening back for the crowds this holiday weekend. sonoma, napa and alameda counties approved for in the

lease the perso w may 23, 2020 a started at 10:30 a.m. to leave this country. no asian allowed. >> reporter: this is just one of several hate-filled letters found by residents in the harron bay area. one found in this tree, another by her brother friday evening. >> it was really shocking. the whole family was really shaking up by it. i cannot comprehend the hatefulness. reading this letter sends chills down my spine. >> reporter: family and police say they referenced five letters posted on homes or other locations posted by this woman. the letter suggests those not native to america leave the country immediately. the letters also target women and children. >> obviously, there's been a spike in attacks towards the asian community. due to this pandemic, it's sad to see that.

week. >> yes, tomorrow should be the first day we hit the triple dit. yesterday we had 80s. the day before just 70s. certainly building on warmth around the bay area. we have somewhat of a stagnant air mass but nothing like we're with going to get in the next several days. we still have a sea breeze. little patchy fog this morning and, of course, that sea breeze works to clean out the atmosphere but once we build on the heat, the overnight lows get warmer and then the afternoons get hazy. we put a lid on the atmosphere and this ridge of high pressure certainly are dominant weather feature, as you look at the satellite and radar component, notice the lines here. this is a norther long island gradient. that also aids in the warming aneshe fogut othe piurd we will continue to see tt as the days progress. but the sea breeze getting slightly weaker as we head in through the next couple of days. not getting cut off totally. if you're lucky enough to live there at the coast, certainly

several pleasant days but getting warm. exploratorium camera looks beautiful, doesn't it? 59 san francisco, 63 oakland as well as san jose and gilroy with mid-50s on the coast. certainly feeling like what should be around the bay with that temperature spread getting wider as we go through the afternoon. we're above average but not that out of the question that we see some warmth in late may. 63 santa rosa, petaluma, 76 by the delta with the breeze backing off. 68 in concord. as we look at the sierra nevada, 40s in blue canyon, trucky 53. 71 in south lake, 77 tomorrw. sunny and warmer today. hotter for memorial day. this is when we can see temperatures top out over 100 by the delta, fairfield, antioch and looking at record temperatures. we're talking 101 perhaps in santa rosa for your tuesday. wednesday perhaps san jose gets close and, of course, inland east bay, our friends in dublin,

pleasanton, walnut creek flirting with 100 as we get towards the early part of the week tuesday and wednesday. the watch from the national weather service will be upgraded to a warning perhaps by tomorrow. but san mateo out of the red there so we will see temperatures pretty comfortable here. tomorrow though it's certainly getting hot. reds, pinks, and as we get into tuesday, 100 for concord, livermore, mid-80s around the bay. upper 80s to near 90. peninsula getting very warm 6789 look at the coast. still in the 70s, perhaps a few 80s. the city getting quite warm. lack of a breeze for sure as we get towards the middle of the week. thursday looks like a bit of relief along the coast but not for everyone. 91 concord, 82 richmond, 82 san mateo. sea breeze kicks up to 15 miles an hour throughout the afternoon so it's weaker than it was. check out what we have to look forward to. the week is clear and hot and as

restrictions but is it too much too soon? we will have more about how states are handling the reopening during the midst of a pandemic. but first let's get a look at the forecast with liz argen. right on cue for the holiday we're going to see hot weather headed our way. in fact, records for several days this week not out of the question. beautiful view of the golden gate bridge. 59 downtown, 63 oakland, san francisco, gilroy, and from our espa hill cameras, you will see 50s in the bays. mild to warm, mid-to-upper 60s. in another more 70s from san ramon to blackhawk and by 1:00, we're well into the 80s around dublin and pleasanton. fremont and san ramon, 70s. later on today you can see the

building to be the church. we can gather virtually. >> reporter: for the first time in week he solid rock baptist church in new jersey will open its doors for sunday service, defying state orders. >> we will do things safely, sanitized and using social distancing. >> reporter: president trump calling on governors to allow churches, synagogues and mosques to hold in-person services this weekend. >> the governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now. if they don't do it, i will override the governors. >> reporter: it's unclear whether president trump has the authority to do so. the cdc recently posted this graphic on twitter, showing how two people with the virus infected at least 35 others at a church gathering in arkansas back in march. now some religious leaders saying returning to worship in person could cost lives. >> what's at risk is probably doing a bunch ofunch of folk winding up in the hospital.

family in his home in oklahoma. in sports later this week, the nba board of governors reportedly has a call scheduled to provide details to teams on a timetable and plan to resume the season. here's abc7 news anchor on where play could resume in this morning's sports. >> disney's wide world of sports in orlando continues to gain traction as sports tries to slowly make a comeback in the u.s. there were reports of major league soccer returning there this summer and now the nba are also trying to get their season back started in florida. according to espn, nba spokesman said the league has entered exploratory conversations with disney about restarting the season at the complex in july. it's unclear whether they will try to play regular season games or just straight to the playoffs. but this is a very viable option. the nba season, of course, suspended back on march 11th. disney is the parent company of

lisa, so talking about the weather, you're saying it's going to get into the 100s midweek. people will be buying those fans. >> yes, hopefully most of you have air-conditioning where it gets that hot near inland valleys. i don't but a lot of people don't either. so they'll have the fans and keep them going all night or maybe hang out in the frozen food section of the grocery store. that's always an alternative, right? as we look outside, it is pretty out there. temperatures comfortable but getting kind of warm already. as we look at antioch as an example, today in the low 90s. look what happens for memorial day. tuesday and wednesday well over 100 degrees. if you're thinking about the sacramento valley, yeah, they're expected to go to 107, 108 in sacramento. so it is going to be hot everywhere, and, in fact, looking at the tooldown starting at the coast on thursday. but for most of us, not until friday. we'll increase the clouds and there will be some showers in the vicinity of north california

concord, 64 livermore. as we look from mt. tam, high pressure as it builds in atmosphere, putting a lid on it and that's allowing for particulate matters, pollutants to get stacked up. now it's the fog. hotter tomorrow for memorial day. records maybe thursday and along the coast is where it will be comfortable but it will be well into the 70s here from pacifica, 60s half moon bay and you will see the sea breeze get weaker and weaker. the rest of us under this excessive heat watch. as we look at the highs for the potential tomorrow, memorial day, could see about 100 in concord, mid-80s on the east bayshore. how about 90s in san jose. low 90s on the peninsula. so anywhere anyone from 16 to maybe 20, 22 bo abo2 above aver that's memorial day. mid-80s arrive on the peninsula. warm one for you, san mateo, 82.
