to build a better bay area are focused on four key areas right now -- health, education, the changing workplace, and the economy. today we focus on the economy as more counties in the bay area enter deeper into phase 2 of reopening. on friday, santa clara became the last county to reopen, so the entire bay area is now green, but with some counties farther along than others. outdoor dining has resumed this weekend in parts of the north bay. cornell bernard went to sonoma county today. he is life in santa rosa. cornell? >> yeah, eric, memorial day weekend usually packed with people up here in sonoma wine country. outdoor restaurants and wineries like kendall jackson packed. obviously not the case this year, but starting today, some doors are reopening. and a lot of folks anxious to get back to normal. >> it's all brand-new. so we're all learning kind of together so bear with us. >> kendall jackson winery taking lots of reservations for wine

into phase 2 as cornell reported. this allows for dine-in restaurants and shopping centers to reopen. napa and solano counties are also in deep phase 2. now in san mateo, santa clara, and alameda counties, retail stores are open for curbside pickup. restaurants are open for takeout and delivery, and beaches are open in san mateo county, but parking lots are closed. in san francisco, contra costa and marin counties, restaurants and retail stores are open for pickup only. parks and beaches are open in san francisco. beach parking lots are closed. marin county beaches are also closed. well, a lawsuit has just been filed over governor gavin newsom's executive order to send mail-in ballots to every voter in california for the november election. the chair of the republican party announced the lawsuit a short time ago. she said the republican national committee, the california republican party, and the nrcc all are part of the suit. in a statement, ronna mcdaniel

called it a quote/unquote, recipe for disaster, and would create more opportunities for voter fraud. we are reaching out to the governor's office for a response. walk-up covid-19 testing has expanded to one of san francisco's most vulnerable neighborhoods. a free community testing site will reopen at the tenderloin recreation center at ellis near hyde street later this week. the site was open today. it will reopen on thursday, may 28th through june 1st. community groups want to get more folks in the neighborhood tested for covid-19 with an emphasize on the homeless. >> this is one of those instances where it's just like no one does community like the tenderloin, and we've come together, including partners that are sometimes on the opposite sides of the same coin. and we've all come together to make this work as best as we can. >> the mobile testing site is being organized in collaboration with verily, the alphabet-owned health enterprise. several groups in santa clara county teamed up today to

provide seniors with face covers and meals. supervisor dave cortese, viet 2 t charity and hundreds of vegan meals at di lac temple. and how to properly social distancing, something hard to do in situations like these. >> there are still a lot of people that evidently are not getting the word that they have to be six feet apart. they have to be wearing a mask. even if you want to go to a charity event, that's an essential organization, a charity, you have to wear a mask. so this information is very important and people don't pay attention, we're going to have another surge. >> cortese says he did not go inside the church due to the lack of social distancing. he plans to bring it up at the next city council meeting. with all 50 states now beginning to reopen, there is some concern about how to do so safely. health officials continue to stress the importance of social distancing, but some are not

health officials continue to stress the importance of social distancing. >> we've learned a lot about this virus, but we now need to translate that learning into real change behavior that stays with us so we can continue to drive down the number of cases. >> california's governor gavin newsom approving plans that allowed dine-in restaurants and retail stores to reopen in some counties. >> it's just nice to be out and have the feeling of sitting down in a restaurant after not having it for so long. because you take these things for granted. >> in ft. lauderdale, some streets are being shut down to allow more space for restaurants. >> hopefully that will bring people out and cause these restaurants to start to come back to life. >> new york's governor now allowing sports teams to open training camps. >> we want people to be able to watch sports to the extent people are still staying home. it gives people something to do. it's a return to normalcy. >> and in north carolina, which has allowed restaurants, salons and barbershops to reopen, the state reporting its largest one-day spike in case on

saturday. trevor ault, abc news, new york. department of justice sent a letter to los angeles mayor erim an extension o theorlaul it says hisec comments suggest an extend shutdown arbitrary and heavy-handed. last week, the department sent a letter to governor gavin newsom warning him the ban on church services could be a civil rights violation. it has been a little over 24 hours since a massive fire tore through part of pier 45 in san francisco. new details are coming out about the warehouse involve and whether anyone was around at the time the fire started. and as you can imagine, our shopping habits are changing during the pandemic. but this one may come as a bit of a surprise. the demand for swimming pools. the new record just set. and i'm meteorologist drew tuma. i am tracking hot temperatures arriving tomorrow as a heatwave gets under way.

mayor island preserve in vallejo will have extended hours tomorrow due to the popularity of a memorial day ceremony there. advanced registration is already booked solid for the holiday service at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow at mare island's naval cemetery. due to social distancing, some who registered will have to wait until noon to enter, and the area will be open until 5:00 p.m. the preserve has been closed since last october following wildfires. it's reopening on weekends starting may 29th. and if you're curious about what's allowed this memorial day weekend and what is not permitted during the coronavirus pandemic, we put together a list on our website. go to abc7news.com. inspections of old buildings at san francisco's pier 45 began today after a huge fire gutted a warehouse there. the portion that burned houses, office space and storage units for fishermen and seafood companies. one of the companies says the fire will impact seafood

deliveries. another owner says hensehe buil tomorrow. >> that pier supports the entire san francisco fleet. there's not a way to unload boats from between half moon bay and bodega bay. so this pier is critical for the local fishing community. >> the chronicle reports two people were working inside the warehouse when that fire started. they were not hurt. crews used a fire boat to save the ss jeremiah o'brien that is docked next to the pier. port officials say they'll likely move to it a temporary location. an initial report into the cause of yesterday's fire is expected next week. a woman with a long list of accomplishments and an expert seen often here on abc7 news has died. kit yarrow was a consumer psychologist, author, and professor at golden gate university. she has been featured in stories here on abc7 news for more than 15 years. yarrow passed away thursday from ovarian cancer. during her battle with cancer,

president trump and vice president mike pence will attend the first launch of americans into space from american soil in nearly a decade. the pair will travel to the kennedy space center to watch the historic spacex launch. it will be the first time two nasa astronauts will blast off in a private spacecraft. the dragon x capsule will be launched by the rocket. spacex is owned by elon musk. the naughts will be headed for the international space station. some high school students in napa county will get their diplomas through virtual walks. graduates will be able to pull up in a car and collect their

diploma and meet with faculty before driving away. only family members, though, will be allowed in those cars. the school district will schedule the walks and videos are also being produced to deliver the stadium feeling that usually comes with a graduation. they're set for the first week of june at napa, vintage, american canyon, new technology and valley oak high schools. if you're thinking about heading to lake tahoe to enjoy the heat, don't do it. you could face a big fine that area is closed to everyone except property owners. el dorado county issued an ordinance back in march banning visitors in an effort to enforce shelter in place orders. if you violate that order, you could face a $1,000 fine. and this memorial day weekend, big bear lake in southern california will not enforce state orders aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus. the city argues it has kept cases manageable, and there has been significant economic harm. big bear lake encourages social distancing, face covers, and good hygiene, but says it has no

legal responsibilities to enforce the state orders. the home pool business has seen record sales as people stay home during this coronavirus pandemic. public pools across the country remain closed, and businesses that sell home pools say families are looking for something to entertain their kids with, especially with summer coming up. numerous companies are reporting a surge and say they may have to hire workers to keep up with demand. if you are looking to buy, owners say be prepared to wait. well, memorial day is the unofficial start of summer, and mother nature is going to act like it where the temperature is concerned. drew? >> yes. you got the memo, eric. we're going find some very hot temperatures arriving tomorrow as a heatwave gets under way that will last for much of the week ahead. live doppler 7 along with satellite this evening. we have clear skies. really beautiful day out there. plenty of sunshine. so we'll take you to the tam cam. a gorgeous shot of san francisco right now.

you can see the east bay in the background. and really, a light breeze out there. and we are soaked in sunshine across the board. look at temperatures right now. we're at 90 in concord. 81 palo alto. cooler with a bit of a sea breeze in the city. we're down to 69. 82, though, in novato. and brentwood coming in pretty warm, at 92 degrees. so overnight tonight, we're going hang on to some of this warmth. we'll find temperatures warmer than last night under clear skies. we'll level off in the mid and upper 50s in a lot of spots. and that will set the stage, a launching pad, so to speak, tomorrow morning for us to quickly warm up into the afternoon on monday. so highs tomorrow significantly warmer than we were today. you can see our hottest spots hitting, if not very close to 100 degrees so, 99 the forecasted high in concord and livermore. 94 in san jose. it will be very warm in the east bay tomorrow. 85 for oakland. 79 in the city. about 91 in san rafael. and 96 the forecasted high in napa under plenty of sunshine.

so it's for the fact that we have hot weather coming tomorrow and lasting several days. that heat advisory, it will go into effect starting tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. and it will last until thursday evening. so that is four days that we are anticipating some very hot temperatures across the bay. in fact, solano county has an excessive heat warning where we'll see some of the hottest temperatures over the next couple of days. so we will fast forward into tuesday. future tracker temperatures, you'll find we're even warmer than we are tomorrow. it is a hot day no matter where you live on tuesday. and it looks like this heatwave will peak tuesday and into wednesday. but we really want to take it easy and beat the heat with some heat tips. you really want to stay hydrated with water over the next several days. if you have to be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade. do not leave pets or people inside parked cars, inside of cars heats up very quickly. apply sunscreen regularly. and it's really important, because we still are under a

shelter in place in areas that we typically go to cool off or seek ac are closed right now. you really want to check on your friends and family frequently over the next couple day, especially elderly people and young people, because they are most susceptible to heat exhaustion and heatstroke under these conditions. take care of each other out there. here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. the heatwave begins tomorrow, and it will last through thursday before refreshing air hits us on friday. and actually, there is a chance next weekend that we could find a shower late saturday into sunday. now abc7 sports with chris alvarez. >> well, today should have been the annual running of the indy 500. of course, that race now postponed until august. nascar is racing in charlotte right now. and today a great charity golf match featuring four of the greatest athletes of our generation right now, peyton manning, tom brady, phil mickelson and tiger noowoods. it was raining. tom brady struggled early, but

and i to be invited by phil and tiger to play in this match. and really, something i'll always remember and cherish. well, like california, new york has been hit hard during this pandemic. but governor cuomo with some good news coming out of the empire state today regarding sports. this was a big one. today the governor of new york said professional teams in the state can return to their facilities. major league baseball, the nba, nhl, major league soccer, all in talks trying to resume their respective sports. but the nfl still months away, and governor cuomo says welcome back. >> starting today all the new york professional sports leagues will be able to begin training camps. i believe that sports that can come back without having people in the stadium, without having people in the arena, do it. do it. work out the economics if you can. we want you re worki aougi l spts ttart tir possible. and we'll work with them to make
