from the department of health. it allows some pools to reopen. >> five people suffering minor injuries tonight after a tree branch snapped and fell in a san francisco park. it happened at 6:00 p.m. we were told by a witness there were quite a few people there celebrating a birthday. they were social distancing and staying in circles. this was at washington square park. in the city north beach neighborhood. one witness describes how quickly everything happened. >> there was a crackle and a splitting noise from the tree. and that huge branch came down. i couldn't register what was happening. >> this is the same park where a huge branch fell in 2016 and landed on a woman as she watched her children playing in the playground. the accident left her paralyzed. >> it was another scorcher across the bay area.

some triple digits for your wednesday afternoon. there is a break coming. and big changes. i'll be back to tell you about them. >> in the east bay, the temperature topped 100 degrees. this presented a challenge for people looking to cool off. considering many places are closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. normally a senior citizen, mall or theater would do the trick. not an option now. they are offering different advice. >> we don't have an option with this current health order. we're asking them to stay home. hydrate. >> swimming pools are off limits in the county. and if you go to the park, keep moving. >> in a south way san jose opened five cooling centers for people. open tomorrow and thursday. starting at 1:00 p.m. however because of the current health order, capacity will be

limited. people must wear a face mask and socially distance. >> several cars honked and circled this evening to protest the plan budget cuts. the city has until june 30th to pass a budget. >> san mateo county and santa clara extended their eviction moratorium. all three counties unanimously pass the ban on residential and commercial convicion. san mateo until the end of june. santa clara expires end of august. >> san francisco restaurants and businesses will soon be able to move out doors. the new initiative allows dinings on sidewalks and streets. it's one of the focuses on

building a better bay area. we have a look at the new shared spaces program. >> bringing restaurants and retailers out doors. one way hoping to keep small businesses in business. outside this cafe, a glimpse into the future. one example is using parking spaces as an extension of the sidewalk. >> we rely on the customers. if we don't have room, it's not right. >> the idea is part of the new shared spaces program. mayor breed says the move will give businesses more space to operate safely. once orders are lifted. the plan is use parks and entire streets. >> it's a way for neighborhoods to recreate themselves. become less dependent on automobiletraffic. we claim the city streets. >> supervisor says the move is essential for the next phase of neighborhood recovery. the restaurant soeshs says this is not a one size fits all

minnesota. protestors clash with police over the death of george floyd. >> protestors threw rocks. police used tear gas and flash grenades. out raged swelled in response to this yesterday. floyd handcuffed on the ground with a white police officer kneeling on his neck. he died a short time later at the hospital. his sister kp brothers talked about their loss tonight. >> he screamed mama. i can't breathe. i don't understand. what more we got to go through in life? they didn't have to do that to him. >> four officers have been fired. floyd's family wants them charged with murder. >> new developments tonight a white woman who wrongfully called the police on a black man in central park has been fired from her job. at a san mateo investment company.

the video went viral after an argument over the woman's dog. >> out rage over the video. showing a woman with her dog off the leash. in part of new york central park monday morning. >> please call the cops. >> there's an african-american man threatening my life. >> that man, 57 year-old christian cooper a bird watcher says the incident started when he told the woman she was violating rules in the protected section of the park. by walking her dog without a leash. cooper says she refused to put her dog on the leash. and he used treats to lure the dog. by the time the police arrive both the woman and cooper were gone. hipz cell phone video tells a different story than what she said over the phone.

talking to cooper after the exchange. >> she decided to make it racial. and at that point running through my head was well, i can be racially intimidated and back off. or i can keep doing what i'm doing and record what's happening. and that's what i did. >> late today. the woman was fired. saying on twitter quote, following our internal review of the incident, we have made the decision to terminate the employee involved. effective immediately. we do not tolerate racism of any kind. speaking to a local new york station the woman in the video apologized. saying it was unacceptable and i fully apologize to everyone who has seen the video. everyone that's been offended. everyone who thinks of me in a lower light and i understand why they do. he was trying to help preserve the protected area for the wildlife. that lives there. >> in a protected area keep your dog on the leash. it's important to protecting the

area. and important to some of the wildlife there. in the craziness of this covid-19 world we're in, we have to get through it together. >> the woman returned the dog to the rescue where she got it. and the police say they haven't issued charges or summons in the case. >> our local media community is working hashd at building a better bay area. which continues to be at the forefront of covid-19 research. a very important new study. about the impact of coronavirus on mothers and babies. >> nobody knows what happened when a covid-19 infection in pregnancy and how it effects newborn through early childhood development. that's what a team of doctors set out to discover. >> we no that infections acquired during pregnancy.

pregnancy they developed them. and be able to look at what the out comes of the pregnancy were. >> what will you be looking out for once the babies in the study are born? >> we're concerned that infants may grow differently. and they have an impact particularly on their brain health. >> i'm eight weeks. >> to be eligible you must four to ten weeks pregnant. she just signed up to participate. >> we'll do testing blood for covid-19. you don't get the results. i won't know. to be part of the study. to me it's more important to add one little drop in the bucket of knowledge that can help potentially bring a better care for mothers to be and babies. >> aspire is looking for thousands of women to participate. and because there's no federal funding for the study. it has paid for through crowd

funding. we have the information on our web site. >> thank you so much. antibody tests for coronavirus may not be as reliable as previously thought. they with warning they might be wrong up to half the time. antibody tests look for evidence of immune response to infection. because of the lack of accuracy the test shouldn't be a factor in determining policy around reopening. >> italian singer revealed today he had covid-19. recovered quickly. >> he says it happened in march. he went onto perform an easter concert. he didn't speak up sooner because he wanted to protect his family's privacy. he didn't want to alarm fans. and donating blood as part of a study to find a cure.

italy. 12 year-old was caught on camera staying calm while being followed by a brown bear. look at this. huge bear. they were on a hike and the bear appeared. the frantic adults told him not to panic. he says he didn't look the bear in the eye to show that he didn't mean any harm. and the bear eventually ran off. that is scary. >> that's terrifying. taken aback by the video. that wase life.
