for a safe and secure future, this is abc7 news. >> they will be able to add in barbershops and hair salons. now at 5:00, the governor gives the green light for barbershops and nail salons to reopen in many places across the state, but it could still be a while before we could get a hair cut here in the bay area. i heard hair cut. and then i heard we're not getting one. >> i know i just can't get my spirits up. i've just decided july. >> july. gives us something to look forward to, kumasi. >> i am really looking forward to it, like so much. >> i know. mike nicco gets, i think, totally good hair cuts from his wife. so, he doesn't really need to go anywhere. hey, mike. >> amazing, isn't it? it runs in the family. my mother-in-law at one point in

and barbershops. they are able to open and 47 counties throughout california, although most of the bay area will be skipped for now. the governor announced the state is moving into phase three an important step in reopening the economy. the economy just one of the things we're tracking in our efforts to build a better bay area. solano is one of the counties where you can go to a barbershop but counties still have to give the green light. jew . >> with the indoormologies now given the go ahead to reopen in parts of the state solano town mall is expected to welcome shoppers when the doors open at 11:00 a.m. it will dbe a different experience with social distancing guidelines in place. let's explain what is going to be different. all the stores will not be open on the first day back. a staggered reopening with all the stores and vendors back by

june 2nd. now the food court, for example, you'll see fewer tables and chairs that are farther spread out. masks are only recommended, not required while doing business in solano county. so, you will not see any signs reminding people to wear those, but people will have to keep their distance from each other. now, business owners we spoke to, they're just happy to be back. >> so excited. i'm excited to see all my regulars. >> i was waiting for this moment for a long time because i got nothing else to do. just being at home. so, i'm excited to be open tomorrow. >> sounds like a lot of us, right? didn't have much to do back at home and now finally ready to be back at work. good news for most business owners there in solano county except for hair salons and barbershops, reggie. they are approving and local county officials have not yet finalized their health orders. the reopening of the solano town center at 11:00 a.m. is right on time. a lot of the regulars will seek

refuge from the really hot temps mike was telling about and trying to look for a place to stay cool on this hot day. >> julian, thank you. in san francisco, restaurants and businesses will soon be able to move outdoors. the mayor says the shared spaces program will give them more space to operate once stay-a stay-at-home orders are lifted. occupy plaza and parts of streets so customers can safely practice social distancing. >> the people in these communities have to give and maybe give up their parking spot or metered spot. the alternative is the neighborhood you lived in is no longer there. >> local business can apply for an expedited permt to get a shared space for free. as states continue to open and americans become increasingly eager to get outside the u.s. death toll is closing in on 100,000. but there are also some signs of

progress in the war against the virus. abc news reporter ines cuetara has the story. >> reporter: from busy boardwalks many americans close together and many without masks. >> seems like the younger generation doesn't have any fear here. it's really more of a generational thing. >> reporter: the number of cases rising now in 14 states but also signs of progress. in new york, long island beginning to reopen leaving new york city as the only region in the state still shut down. nevada now moving into phase two, casinos scheduled to reopen at the beginning of june. sports also starting to get back to business. the nhl announcing plans to restart by skipping the regular season and going straight to playoffs. games will be closed off to everyone except the teams and a small support staff. >> we will not do anything until

washington. live desk update. >> at the live desk i have the results on a new study that is showing how many people are feeling about coronavirus vaccine. so if a vaccine were approved and available to the public, only 49% of americans say they would get vaccinated. the study by the associated press and the center for public affairs research surveyed more than 1,000 adults. most of them believe a vaccine will become available some time next year. as i mentioned 49% say they will get the vaccine. 20% say they will not get vaccinated. 31% say they're unsure. older americans who seem to be worried about getting a family member sick are more likely to get vaccinated. >> thank you, jobina. antibody tests for coronavirus may not be as reliable as we previously thought. the cdc is nowern warning they might be wrong half the time. look for an immune response to

infection. the cdc says because of the lack of accuracy, the tests should not be a factor in determining policies around reopening. these social distancing circles that started popping up at san francisco parks last week are getting quite a bit of use, especially with this nice weather we're having. there are 300 in total at four different parks at dolores park, washington square, jackson playground and little marina green. >> it's helpful to have some guidelines and helpful parameters for folks, especially when we bring our kid. >> so, it was these images from a, pain brooklyn that inspired the idea here in the bay area. the circles in san francisco are eight feet in diameter and spaced ten feet apart. so that makes sure that everybody has enough social distancing space and now the city's recreation and parks department is getting e-mails from physicists suggest trying different shapes.

warmest morning moving forward. temperatures in the east bay valleys. mid to upper 60s in the tri-valley to concord and lafayette and out high way 4 mid to upper 70s. air conditioners still running during the nighttime hours. 54 in pacifica and everybody else in the 60s including san francisco and look at los gatos 73 degrees. it's safest to exercise now through 10:00 and then, no, if you have to walk the dog, make sure you keep them on soft surfaces like the grass. don't put them on the concrete in the asphalt. 141 and i'll put together a graphic to show you that or check it out on my social media. beaches today 68 to 72 degrees. milder temperatures today and mid 90s on the peninsula for a couple hours this afternoon. here's a look at what is going on for the east bay.

child care centers and summer camps. the day after allowing the state to enter phase three. most of the bay area is holding back. number four, a major mall in the north bay will be opening its doors today. the solano toncenter wiwn centen at 4:00 this morning and including changes at the food court and tables and chairs, of course, will be spread out. number five, protesters clash with police in minneapolis last night, a day after the death of a black man in police custody. this morning on "gma" george floyd's sister is calling for the police officers to be jailed. number six. we have a clear ride for our essential commuters this morning. we'll start off here with a live look showing you san jose, 280 our camera down there and a few cars making their way down the road. number seven. spacex is expected to launch astronauts into space from cape canaveral later today. we will have more on the

historic significance of the launch in just a minute. listen to this, five people suffered minor injuries after a tree branch snapped and fell at a san francisco park. it happened a little before 6:00 last night at washington square park. a witness says there were quite a few people there celebrating a birthday. this was at filbert and stockton street and a person who saw it explained how quickly it unfolded. >> a crackling and splittng noise from the tree and all of a sudden the branch came down. i couldn't register what happened. it just split and then fell. >> that is terrible. this is actually the same park where a huge branch fell and landed on a woman in 2016 as she was watching her kids in the playground and that accident left her paralyzed. new this morning the california academy of sciences is facing a huge financial shortfall because of the pandemic. the museum says the 75% of its staff will be impacted as it prepares to fight through a $12

million loss in the upcoming year. the academy is raising funds to help keep up operations during the shutdown. that includes feeding and caring for nearly 40,000 animals that academy. they are ohoping to reopen in july. the san franc l visitors are encouraged to buy tickets in advance to reduce transaction times at the gates. capacity will be limited and social distancing and face coverings will be required. well, forecasters say there is a 60% chance that the weather will be good enough for today's historic launch at kennedy's space center in florida. this will be the first time in a decade that astronauts will blast off into space from u.s. soil. megan has more on the risk involved. >> reporter: this morning it is mission countdown. >> three, two, one. ignition liftoff. >> reporter: spacex ready to make history launching its

dragon space capsule with two nasa straunastronauts inside. the goal to prove they could deliver to the international space station. >> certainly an honor to be part of it. >> reporter: they will be onboard. >> continuing to push into space challenges us as americans and challenges us as scientists and engineers and that continued push is important. >> reporter: if the mission succeeds, it will be the first time in nearly a decade that american astronauts will be free from paying another country for a ticket to space. until now the only way to get to the space station was to pay russia at a price tag of nearly $90 million. this is huge. it is huge for nasa, it is huge for our country. >> reporter: but spacex has had its troubles in the past. >> coming back shows vehicle on course, on track. >> reporter: losing "falcon 9 in" in 2019 and another rocket in 2016. and just over a year ago, an explosion destroyed a spacex

area and here's a look at future radar. you know florida in the summertime, things are going to erupt as you head deeper into the afternoon hours. so, they've got a little bit of a window this morning into the early afternoon hours and maybe not even early afternoon hours until late this morning where they can get the launch off and maybe later on once those showers pass. another possibility. that's why they employ their own meteorologists and we'll see what happens. let's talk about what is going on back here at home. 68 in sutro tower. the sea breeze rolls into a lot of neighborhoods and a fire threat from dry thunderstorms it's possible saturday. but until then look at low to upper 90s and 98 in gilroy and head up the peninsula and start 94 at redwood city and mid to upper 60s along the coast today and sunset could be 78 with downtown south san francisco and sausalito and upper 70s before the sea breeze kicks in this evening and mid to upper 90s

record highs across the north bay and 82 in richmond to 90 in fremont and 84 in oakland and this is where it's going to be the hottest. 100s everywhere in the east bay valleys. best chance for record highs today. look at the clouds. look at those temperatures. 50s around the bay and the coast. 60s still holding on inland. let's take a look at what's going on with your temperatures and the 100s are gone after today. the 90s are gone after tomorrow. the 80s are gone after friday and we'll have 60s and 70s this weekend. we'll talk more about that threat of thunderstorms coming up next. here's kumasi. >> thanks, mike. you guys, you have to watch this video. c c with a bear. in italy had a look, so this is 12-year-old and he is clearly the calmest little 12-year-old we have ever seen because that bear is following him. his family says he was on a

and what you're going to see record nihighs. not as many as yesterday because the core of the heat was over us yesterday and starting to move over to the east and places like santa rosa and east bay neighborhoods have the best chance of upper highs. mid to upper 90s in the south bay and 90 at fremont and san francisco 78 but feel significantly cooler by the evening hours as the sea breeze will kick in late this afternoon and that's why half moon bay is only 68 degrees. we'll talk more about that sea breeze and when it gets to your neighborhood, coming up. here's kumasi. as mike just mentioned, another day of extreme heat and that could potentially mean power outages. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is in walnut creek with the warnings. >> warnings all over the place, kumasi, about this heat and where do we go is the big question.

this pool here at heather farms looks so refreshing and inviting and perfect place to beat it's this pandemic. that is the case ever cool off. closed.heaters and malls are same for libraries and even cooling centers that offer a break to seniors on extraordinarily hot days like this. ice cream shops are even closed. county officials say they are getting a lot of worried phone calls. there are not many places to cool off and those masks are really hot that need to be prepared for that.

has just begun. it hasn't ended and while we are moving forward because of stabilization, bnati ts virus t goveus barbershops and hair salons to reopen with added safety measures but only approved counties have the final say. locally those are napa and sonoma. coming up, one bay area mall that is choosing to reopen for shoppers today. that particular shopping center is one of the early ones to reopen, others are making safety changes ahead of their time to get ready. at east ridge, modifications are being made to reduce elevator and escalator capacity by 50%. the mall also upgraded its ventilation system to be able to circulate more fresh air in from the outside. east ridge said all that is left is getting county approval for

curbside pickup. >> two curbside pickup zones. it will allow all our mom and pop shops to put their products online if they don't already have a digital presence. >> nearly half of the mall's 150 stores are independently owned and operated. these differences in what is reopening and where and what stage falls under can be kind of confusing. so, especially given that we have so many counties and different rules. we do have a complete guide to what is allow eed depending on where you live. just go to our website, abc7news.com. bay area countie are looking for people to help with tracing efforts. they are looking 1,000 volunteers to investigate and contain every covid-19 case. our media partner, the bay area news group, are reporting they only have 50. in sonoma county the press democrat is planning that officials plan to hire and pay dozens of contact tracers as

part of its plan to curb the coronavirus pandemic. more than 150 trained contact tracers by june 15th and 230 by july 15th. and drive-by proestit protee east bay in order to keep social distancing. several cars circled around lake merritt and this was against mayor libby schaaf's planned budget cuts. the city's laid off employees are disproportionately african-american and many are oakland residents and they say the cuts will be even further damaging for the local economy. we will ask the mayor about this because she will be on "midday live" today. discuss the city's latest response to the coronavirus and we will watch her interview starting at 11:00 this morning and oakland has until june 30th
