more weeks and even months before a lot of businesses are back. the timeline from the mayor. good morning, everybody. we made it to friday. what a week. it is may 29th. >> there's all kinds of foolishness happening already this morning. we'll get to that in just a second. but, first, we'll talk about what is happening with our weather on this friday and mike nicco is the man with that. good morning, mike. >> reggie, kumasi, hi, everybody. if you're tired of the heat, be tired no more. check out the cloud cover on live doppler 7. that's just going to evaporate before it reaches the ground and help cool the atmosphere even more and the heat wave is over and a lot due to the strong sea breeze you can see right there winds gusting to 24 miles per hour in fairfield. winds fairly light and they will pick up and take the 90s out of the forecast and almost the a80 in most neighborhoods. we'll stay near 50 and we'll go 72 to 75 for our bay.

temperatures from noon to 4:00. 76 to 80 inland and back down to 70 around 7:00. if joy the comfort. we'll give you an update on the chances of rain and thunderstorms coming up in the forecast. back to kumasi. >> thank you, mike. breaking following this morning as protests continue in the twin cities. minnesota governor will hold a press conference today to address the state's response to civil unrest after the death of george floyd in police custody. violent protests and fires really continued overnight. the u.s. attorney on the case said no decision has been made yet on any charges against the officers who pressed down on floyd's neck for several minutes. abc7 new news reporter ines de cuetara has the latest. >> reporter: windows smashed and dozens of businesses ransacked and set ablaze including the police precinct in the

neighborhood. this after prosecutors say they're not yet ready to press charges in the case him on the ground with . >> we are conducting a robust and meticulous investigation into the circumstances surrounding the events of may 25th, 2020, and the police officers' actions on that evening. >> reporter: an estimated 4,000 people marching peacefully through minneapolis earlier demanding justice. many of them chanting, i can't breathe. some of the final words uttered by floyd. protests spreading to more cities around the country including new york city. in los angeles and in denver.

dozens gathered at the state capitol where shots were reportedly fired and one person was hit by a car. in minneapolis, target is now temporarily closing 24 stores in the twin cities after protesters were seen looting some of its stores in the area. >> you have every absolute right to be angry. however, you have no right to perpetrate violence and harm on the very communities that you say that you say you're standing up for. >> abcnews, washington. this morning president trump is under scrutiny after weighing in on twitter. he blamed the city's democratic leadership for the violence and threatened to bring in the national guard. when the looting starts, the shooting starts. twitter later tagged trump's tweet saying it violated the twitter rules about glorifying violence. the mayor of minneapolis responsed to the president

overnight saying weakness is pointing your finger at somebody else during a time of crisis. donald trump knows nothing about the strength of minneapolis. well, we expect to hear more from san francisco mayor london breed today about the city's reopening timeline. phase 2a begins monday. child care centers, botanical gardens and then on to phases b and c and eventually get to three and four. >> reporter: san francisco mayor london breed is detailing a month-by-month plan as long as new covid-19 cases and hospitalizations stay low. among the highlights, starting june 15th, phase 2b. most retail indoor sales and sporting events with no fans in the seats will be allowed to resume. also on june 15th, in-person religious services. phase 2c starts july 13th.

indoor dining and hair salons and barbershops can get back in business. then in mid-august phase three. schools, bars, gyms and nail salons reopen. righwha 4 tba, cover large public gatherings, concerts, festivals and night cl clubs. among the changes, a more stringent mask requirement starting at midnight. face coverings have to be worn whenever you are within 30 feet of someone else and that includes when you're exercising. before this, you did not need to wear a mask when exercising outdoors. but the city says as more places reopen, there will be more people out and about. the be fiinlike aif they are preparing someone who is not in their immediate household. marin county will announce

more steps to reopen already slated to reopen june 1st are summer camps and outdoor rent s rentals. new numbers show a spike in coronavirus cases hitting front line workers especially hard. 100 new cases last week, mostly among people working in essential businesses. grocery workers were top of the list. the county health director is urging businesses and employees and businesses with frequent contact with the public to get tested for covid-19. >> we're really hoping that every employer recognizes that this is a matter of community health and well being right now and test people for covid-19 because it's prevalent in our community. >> reporte >> marin count a ey is offering bring testing to grocery stores. some accepted the offer and others declined. >> imagine not keeping your workers safe. i don't understand. starting monday, deputies in

sonoma county will no longer enforce coronavirus public health orders. that is the word from sheriff mark esic. says isecause of the county's orders that are too restrictive compared to the governor's. julian glover is live with more on that. julian. >> hey, good morning, reggie. this all came about when sonoma county will allow more businesses to reopen this week and now that is rolled back and pushed back and delayed another two weeks and now he believes it is unfair to small businesses. he made the announcement in a lengthy facebook post saying after speaking with consts the pament wlthomli instd state ides th along has been that the state and local orders differ, the more restrictive health order. >> if a mom and pop floral shop is not able to operate.

>> we ought to listen to the county health department in this county. we ought to listen to what they are saying. >> the sheriff's decision to stop enforcing the health order only affects unincorporated areas. now, meanwhile, the police chiefs of two departments within the county, santa rosa and petaluma released some statements yesterday saying they will uphold the sonoma county health order and warning first and then if all else fails, they will issue a citation. julian glover, abc7 news. >> thank you. governor newsom will give an update on the state's response today at noon. before that, he is going to be a guest on "abc's the view" and you can watch that at 10:00 this morning followed by "midday live" at 11:00. all right. let's take a look at our temperatures. we'll start with cloudy conditions along the east bay

shore and mid to upper 50s and little mist hanging in the air as the marine layer is thicker and juicier than it was this time yesterday. the best chance of the mist along the coastal communities and up into the hills closer to the coast. temperatures mid to upper 50s in most neighborhoods and mountain view at 50 and los gatos 61 and little bit milder. for your activity planner. everything is green today. in fact, if you want to do some gardening do it now and let mother nature and if you're going across our bridges this afternoon in the evening or near the bay water, it's going to be brisk. small craft advisory, small chop out there. let's look at the south bay. we start 61 and 74 at noon and upper 70s and down to a breezy 65 at 8:00. and here's a look at the north bay. 55 this morning to 72 around 2:00 and that's about as warm as it gets. 62 at 8:00 and last stop east bay valleys. barely into the 80s and look at the wind kick in at 4:00.

it's 5:13. if you're just joining us, seven things you need to know this morning. number one, another night of civil unrest in minneapolis following the death of an unarmed man who died in custody. yesterday prte set renc o nddsna guard soldiers arrived to try to stop the violence. a cnn crew arrested this morning while covering the protest in minneapolis released. omar jimenez arrested live on tv and taken away. minnesota's governor is calling the arrest totally unacceptable. number three. san francisco will enact a more

stringent mask requirement starting tonight at midnight. face coverings have to be worn whenever you're within 30 feet of somebody and that includes outdoor exercise. starting monday the sonoma county sheriff said he will follow state guidelines. they delayed opening businesses another two weeks because of a spike in covid-19 cases. number five. we are at the end of may and we're still using the storm impact scale. tonight through saturday we have a chance of rain and then showers and then even some lightning possible tomorrow and gusty southerly winds. and number six. we are checking in on emeryville right now looking at westbound 80 this morning and recovering traffic right now. you can still see there is a du deadly crash on berkeley at university avenue. and number seven. how would you like to get your high school diploma on a jet

ski? one at a time seniors road jet skis on the ocean to get their diplomas from their principal who was anchored on a boat. >> i love that. okay. remember winston the pug in north carolina? he was believed to be the first dog in the country to test positive for covid-19. well, turns out winston probably never had the virus. so, this is according to new findings from the national vet services laboratory. the usda which oversees the lab says the series of tests were conduct conducted over several weeks after they positively identified the virus that causes covid-19 in winston's oral swab. the weak detection from the original sample may be the result of contamination after members of the family caring for the pug tested positive. a popular napa winery is suing governor newsom and the state public health officer. the suit which was filed takes issue with the wineries only being able to reopen in phase

camping. new survey found that americans have rekindled their love of the great outdoors. more people are going camping because there is not a whole lot else you can do. sales of camping sets have soared 119%. camp fire equipment up 42%. grills 74% surge. americans are also buying more road maps, travel books, hammocks and atlases. i was just talking about this with a couple friends the other day. i haven't been camping since college. i have no desire to go camping and, yet, i'm thinking about it. what's happening? >> i think we should go. i went camping last year really for the first time because i didn't do it growing up. i had so much fun. it was a disaster and everything went wrong but it was still fun to be out there. >> was it real camping? >> i was in a tent in the rain. >> you were in an actual tent. >> cold. but it was fun.

in the void and mostly cloudy and the breezes will also keep the heat away today. next storm arrives tonight one on the storm impact scale and then mild through monday. a little bit warmer tuesday, wednesday, thursday. you can clearly see that swirl in the atmosphere and the area of low pressure coming up towards us and finally going to bring us relief from the heat and look at this as we head towards 8:00. you can see some light rain developing along the coast and into the coastal mountains and then overnight it spreads moderate rain. look at that yellows and oranges across most of our neighborhoods and then there is another chance that we'll have some during mid morning and late afternoon and as we head to the evening hours, it pretty much goes away. at th amounts and what you're going to notice as you head to the higher elevations especially into the coast and the north bay. the best chance in the lesser extent of the east bay hills and less than a tenth of inch of rain unless you're up in the north bay. let's look at what is going on with the seven-day forecast and our coolest days will be

saturday, sunday and monday. but when it gets a little bit warmer tuesday, wednesday and thursday. ma mid 80s. that's as good as it gets. back to you guys. >> mike, thank you. abc7 is dedicating more resources to building a better bay area and focus on the issues that you are dealing with during this pandemic. yesterday we held a virtual town hall that focused all on education. superintendents from three bay area cities joined us along with tony therman. therman said that concrete guidance will be coming soon about how schools are going to b reopening whenever in-person instruction finally resumes. >> the most important thing we can do is prevention. take the temperature of your children before they come to school and if your child is not feeling well, please, keep them home. what we're learning from our schools that are operating right now mostly child care centers and take temperatures before students enter and if there's a

you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. >> this is abc7 mornings. mid to upper 60s along the coast and lower 70 near the bay and few 80s in the east bay and south bay. without the strong sunshine and a nice breeze, it will feel cooler than that. look at tonight, back in the mid 50s to mid 60s chanc of rain does increase rather nicely and then look what it leaves us with saturday afternoon. 60s and 70s. mid 60s and 70s and sunday it will be drier and still in the 60s and 70s and may get to 80 in a few inland east bay spots and monday still pretty comfortable temperatures as they start to

>> rain, mike. what happened? >> well, i'm trying to please everybody that's what it is. you know, record heat for those that like the heat to rain and cooler than average temper whichwhich for those who don't. it could be a tough job. here's a look at what is going on with live doppler 7. a few radar returns and a gorgeous, look at that multi-layer shot and multi-color shot from the east bay hills camera and brian back in transmission doing a great job of dialing that in. that is absolutely gorgeous. let's talk about what is going to happen this afternoon. an increase in the clouds as the low clouds retreat to the coast and look at the consquenequence half moon bay, richmond. low to upper 70s throughout the bay and most of the bay and few 80s in the east bay and south bay. 20 degrees cooler than just two days ago.

even cooler weather this weekend and i'll show you a chance of rain coming up. first, let's talk traffic with o jobina. good morning. >> good morning, mike. thank you very much. all lanes reopen on westbound 80 in berkeley because of the situation here. we want to get right to the video show we can show you what happened earlier. a deadly crash there, according to the chp. just before 3:00 this morning, a sedan was coming down the freeway and hit a pedestrian that was in the middle of the road. that pedestrian, unfortunately, died at the scene. the lanes were shut down for a little over an hour and, again, everything is back open. but you can still expect heavy traffic as you move your way through westbound 80 going into emeryville this morning. kumasi? >> thank you, jobina. breaking news this morning, minnesota's attorney general now says he expects charges to be filed soon against the minneapolis police officer involved in the death of george floyd. the unarmed black man who died while in police custody. last night protesters set a minneapolis police station on fire as riots continued for a

third straight night. and while the precinct burned, city officials warned that it may be in danger of exploding because of unconfirmed reports of explosive materials inside that building. the minneapolis police department said it evacuated staff for safety reasons but the protte ed cnits a waiting until they are waiting until they have fair case completed before filing charges. protests intensified yesterday after prosecutors said they haven't decided whether or not to charge the officer who had pressed down on floyd's neck for eight minutes. last night more than 500 national guard soldiers arrived in minneapolis as angry crowds demanded justice for floyd's death. minnesota state patrol. they've now c rehoasted while reporting live on air on the riots this morning. omar jimenez was live on tv in minneapolis when officers approached him and he could be

heard telling them that his crew was willing to move back to wherever police thought it would be safe. officers ended up, as you can see here, handcuffing him and telling him he's under arrest. when he asked why, they didn't answer the question. minnesota's governor is apologizing releasing this statement saying it was totally unacceptable and totally inadvertent what happened. they clearly had the right to be there. the cnn team, we want the media there to cover this. it is never acceptable for this to happen. this morning, president trump is receiving criticism for a late-night tweet about the unrest in minneapolis that caused twitter to flag it for violating rules about glorifying violence. in another tweet drew a response from the city's mayor. jobina is at the live desk with more on this. jobina? >> thank you, kumasi. goodern morning. not unusual for president trump to send out late-night tweets but cause debate between his supporters and his detractors for sure. we'll bring it up here so you can see what the president

tweeted last night that said, quote, these thugs are dishonoring the memory of george floyd and i won't let that happen. he went on to say, quote, any difficulty and we will assume control but when the looting starts, the shooting starts. thank you. twitter flagged the tweet which is only visible if you can click on twitter's flag to see it. in another tweet, the president attacked minneapolis's mayor saying in part, quote, either the very weak radical left mayor jacob frey get his act together and bring the city under control or i will send in the national guard and get the job done right. the mayor responded at an early morning press conference. >> weakness is refusing to take responsibility for your own actions. weakness is pointing your finger at somebody else during a time of crisis. donald trump knows nothing about the strength of minneapolis. we are strong as hell. is this a difficult time period? yes. but you better be sure that we're going to get through

thispen. >> this is the first time twitter has used its policy about glorifying violence against the president and comes one day after president trump signed an executive order after twitter applied fact checks to two of his tweets about mail-in ballots. kumasi. >> thank you, jobina. here in the bay area, protesters held a demonstration in oakland in response to floyd's death. sky 7 flew over the protest and dozens of people sat in the intersection outside of police headquarters. protesters then marched to city hall. oakland mayor libby schaaf called it and we will stay on top of this breaking news and bring it to you as it comes in. san francisco has unveiled its reopening timeline we have dates for hair salons, churches can reopen. starting on monday june 1st child care centers can open and botanical gardens and outdoor historical sites.

two weeks later on june 15th is when most of the changes happen. indoor retail, outdoor dining, religious services, professional sporting events without spectators and nonemergency medical appointments like boggo to the dentist will resume. modified indoor dining can begin and barbershops and hair salons can reopen about a month later. that would be july 13th. schools, bars and gyms would reopen some time in august. and today we're expecting even more updates on this timeline for mayor breed. she holds her news conference later today. amy hollyfield joins us live in san francisco with more on this. amy? >> hi, reggie. well, she's also come down harder on these masks. the rule on this is going to be stricter now. so, even if you're out for a run. if you're somewhere popular like here on the embarcadero and it's crowded, you need to wear your mask. this new mandate she just announced that says if you leave

ucsf, i felt that it was imperative for me to get involved. >> reporter: dr. kim rhodes is spear heading the initiative and was inspired by testing in the mission. there more than half the people who tested positive were asymptomatic which means they could have spread the virus unknowingly. that's why she says the initiative is not just about testing, but support. >> responses to support people to be able to self-isolate or quarantine f they te quarantine, if they test positive for the virus. so they have an opportunity to heal themselves and allow the virus to get out of their system so when they come back into the general population circulating, they're not infecting other people. >> still she and community partners know some people may have concern and that's why district 10 supervisor walton said he went and got tested with mayor london breed. >> we did that so we can demonstrate it is safe and let everybody know we want to be an

scale and still that slight chance of a thunderstorm. in fact, here is the storm impact scale in the area of low pressure we have been watching all week. it broke the heat in most areas yesterday. it will break it in our inland east bay neighborhoods today and bring us the heaviest rain likely across the north bay. and here we go with future radar. you can see the increase in clouds as we head throughout the day. by 8:00, the dimming of the sunshine as it starts to set and some drizzle developing along the coast and into the higher elevations along the coast and then look at that moderate showers as we head through the early morning hours. and then another round possible mid morning to mid afternoon. and then by late afternoon, those showers are starting to taper. let's take a look at the rainfall potential. east bay inland, south bay. there's the likelihood that you'll get the rain shadow. everybody else likely less than a tenth of an inch unless you're in the higher elevations and north bay we could get up to a quarter to half inch of rain.

cvs is partnering to deliver without person-to-person contact. self-driving robots we have told you about before that they're partnering with walmart and domino's on autonomous. the pilot program will take part in houston. free samples at costco are making a comeback. costco cfo revealed on an earning's call those are set to return mid june. they wouldn't say exactly what that would look like, but it wouldn't be the old way where members would walk up and take a sample from a tray. costco does require all customers and employees to wear masks. hopefully this will cheer you up this morning, a florida high school found a way to honor its seniors while still remaining apart. they got their diplomas on jet skis.

that's pretty amazing. one at a time, 12 seniors from somm somm sommerset prep get it from a principal that was anchored on a boat. the miami herald reports a local water sport company loaned the jet skis for free and gave the grads a three-hour training course the day before and it was the school's inaugural graduation. so, this was a really big deal. i have to say, oh, look at this. jumping in the water with the gown. i love it. that is certainly one way to make it memorable. good for them. >> i like that tradition. you don't have to throw your caps. you can just jump in the wonderful water and water temperature down there probably mid 80s. let's talk about our temperatures. mid 80s lakeport and ukiah and most of us in the 70s today and
