but we're looking at cloud cover >> mike, thank you. a walmart was looted last and temperatures in the 50s this night in san leandro caught fire morning and trying to sprinkle up in the north bay, but looks and flames inside the building like a lot of that is evaporating before it reaches on davis street. the ground. we'll keep an eye on it for you. alameda county said the source was propane tanks that exploded. 12-hour day planner and main hae no clo cloudy and that will help reach 63 around our bay and inland neighborhood and stay in the 50s at the coast all throughout the day. 74 to 79 pretty close to average as we head to 4:00 and 69 to 75. a comfortable evening on the way. i've got some uncomert ifable he heat coming up in the forecast tomorrow. here's reggie. >> okay, mike, thank you. developing news now. at least 80 people were arrested after the curfew hit in san francisco. protests were mostly peaceful, but shortly after 8:00, officers tried to dispersed crowds near civic center. he said protesters defied the order, threw bottles and started fires. that's when they started arresting people. the curfew remains in effect

until further notice. clean-up looting over the weekend. you're right now at the swarovski crystal store looted friday night. several people say this is not what the protests are about. >> the looting part i do not agree with, but we want to ensure our message is heard. we are definitely at a point of being fed up. and we want our message and justice to be served. >> the union square business improvement district says many stores were set to reopen today after being closed for months because of the shelter-in-place order. in the east c captured a dozen looters running out of shoe palace. some packed their cars and drovh video.e m w his kneesith his hands up before handcuffed him. a walnut creek sky 7 was

overhead as thieves hit dozens of stores at broadway plaza. you can see looters fought amongst each other for stolen items they took from the stores. they packed up the items into cars and drove off and minutes later officers could be seen moving in. so many cities in the bay area now under a curfew and that includes san jose. we go live to julian glover who is covering it from the police station there. julian? >> goodern moi morning, reggie. tonight is the first night of curfew in place and it felt like the early days of shelter-in-place enacted and quiet for the most part after two days of violence and looting p.as nht a 5:00 this were pres morning. it will run for the next seven days. part of the reason for the curfew is tonned looting the department got wind of for sunday night, all according to police chief eddy garcia after millions of dollars

in damage was done to businesses on friday leading to the arrest of 100 people. >> we have, however, seen episodes of violent conduct ranging from the horrific as we saw with the woman who drove her suv through the crowd. >> what are the consequences of those who do not follow the curfew? >> so, it's a code violation and what i'll say very judicious in the way we'll use it. >> chief garcia making it clear in the news conference sunday announcing the curfew that this is not martial law and that any power to arrest someoatgrf be u judiciously. the curfew allows for very few exceptions in the way first responders and, of course, us, members of the media. so, please, do take this thing seriously. i do have requests with san jose pd to see if anyone was arrested for breaking that curfew. as soon as i hear back, i'll let

you know. i'm julian glover, abc7 news. we're expecting to hear from governor gavin newsom about the demonstrations across the state. he will also provide an update on california's response to covid-19. his news conference starts at noon. you can watch it right here on abc7 and also watch it online at abc7news.com. president trump has remained mostly quiet about the protest and jobina fortson is at the live desk with what is going on at the white house. >> hundreds of protesters rallied outside of the white house throughout the weekend and some even tried to break down the barrier to the white house. but president trump for the most part not visible. we did learn that he was actually taken to an underground concerns thehite house is divided on how to handle the protests. abc reports president trump's chief of staff wants the president to deliver a formal address addressing police officers and the president's senior adviser and son-in-law

jared kushner warned against doing that thinking it would play poorly come november. president trump tweeted over the weekend saying that the u.s. will designate a terrorist organization and he also called on democratic leaders to do more to stop the violence. reggie, i'll send it over to you. >> jobina, thank you. san jose police have taken one of their own off the streets. that person now under an internal affairs investigation. it comes after video surfaced of this officer appearing to taunt protesters friday. abc7 news i-team reporter dan noyes has that. >> reporter: 33-year-old police officer jared seems ready for action and his demeanor draws a reaction from the crowd. >> they're having a blast. >> he runs away and back and says -- andrea is a founding member of berkeley cop watch. >> he was escalating and already seemingly tense situation and

making it worse and thus endangering members of the public. >> reporter: in a second video, a woman asks him, why are you on that side? he answers -- seconds later he reaches around another officer and the projectiles like the same one i picked up can be dangerous fired that way. >> they're a crowd control weapon. they're meant to disperse crowds, et cetera. not meant to be fired at close range. >> reporter: those videos spread across twitter and they have removed the officer from street duty and under an internal affa affairs. >> i am not happy with his actions and i know jared and he's a good kid who made a mistake, who let his emotions get the better of him. >> reporter: the only asian american on the san jose city council says officer should not be fired. >> we have to provide and call out wrongs. but we need to provide space to

win people's hearts and minds and allow them a chance to atone and win allies as we continue on the righteous path. >> public records show that he earned $225,000 last year if you count overtime and benefits. he has been on the job force for six years. dan noyes, abc7 news. the santa clara county superior court will be closed today. court officials say this is in the interest of public safety and several unrest and san jose curfew. they plan to monitor circumstances today and provide updates on reopening tomorrow. that decision is expected to come later today. all right. let's take a look at what's going on. we'll start with some neighborhood temperatures and cloudy along the east bay shore and start with the 60 at oakland. that's the warm spot. and we have a lot of 58s out there and alameda, hayward and union city and let's look at some other cities, antioch and

brentwood and low to mid 60s along with san jose and los gatos and pacifica a little cooler. use it for the backdrop for the activity planner. pretty nice outside. pretty comfortable. moderate pollen out there whether it's tree, grass or weed and a good day to do yard work as things start to dry out and gets it, again, hot for a couple days this week. here's a look at the south bay. 60s through 10:00 and hold on to a lot of cloud cover and a few breaks in clouds for and mid 70s from about 1:00 through 6:00 and 69 at 8:00. let's go up to the north bay and look at the ramp up in temperature here. 57 at 8:00. 10:0065 and moon 7 help us reach 80s for several hours this afternoon. we'll also join you in the low 80s for several hours this afternoon after starting off at 64 at 8:00 and ending up at 76

at 8:00. all right. we've got 90s and possibly some 100s tuesday and wednesday in the forecast. i'll show you that coming up. first time for jobina and traffic. how are we doing this morning, jobina? >> well, mike, we had some minor issues this morning. but cleared up. our essential workers are in good shape. the san mateo bridge and the traffic out there right now. also want to let you know that bay area express toll lanes will resume today. that started at 5:00 a.m. and been in effect for about ten minutes. this means express lanes on 580 and alameda county and 680 in southbound 680 over the sunol grade will reinstate the variable rate tolling policies and that was paused because of the shelter-in-place order. as you can clearly see from our camera people are back out returning to work and slowing

publicly support police officers. all right. number five. look at our temperatures. today we climb back to average and a 10 to 15 degree jump puts most of us in the 80s and 90s. i'll let you know how long it lasts coming up in the accuweather forecast. number six. so far so good on our roads right now we're going to take a live look showing you san rafael for our essential workers, i do want to let you know that you can expect more traffic. we've been seeing it pick up as the shelter-in-place orders are still in effect, but people are returning to work. and number seven. two nasa astronauts are waking up this morning at the international space station. hugs and handshakes greeted the pair yesterday as they were launched into orbit by a spacex rocket over the weekend. there has been little social distancing happening across the u.s. as the protests go on and health officials worry this could lead to another spike in

coronavirus cases. jobina fortson following that for us. jobina?ouyeny ooteste to tothes right now and control as hundreds of thousands of people continue to gather. health experts say mask demonstrations are potential hot beds for coronavirus. they also say widespread mistrust in the government will undermine their ability to track covid-19 cases. this comes as states move further into reopening their economies. coronavirus cases in 15 states including california are on the rise right now. kumasi, i'll send it over to you. >> thank you, jobina. san francisco mayor london s up says some proteste at her house. >> all people yelling black lives matter protesting in front of my house. that didn't bother me as much as the taunting of me coming outside with firework torches in their hands looking like what

used to happen when the kkk would show up to black people's houses to burn their houses down. don't come for me. because i'm not the one. >> the mayor spoke yesterday during a peaceful rally for george floyd in the mission district. mayor breed joined protesters and kneeled in solidarity with the african-american community. the death of george floyd may be the catalyst for the protests we're seeing but mayor willy brown said the anger and frustration behind them have been building for decades. eric thomas spoke with him. >> over the history of this country where there's been a confrontation allegedly between a black person and a white cop. the conduct has its heritage in the original conduct between black folk and white folk. and we don't acknowledge it and

we don't deal with it and we don't believe it as a society. we don't believe that that strand of virus is still a part of everyday activity. and it is. >> what was just as appalling is former officer chauvin with his knee on his neck. other officers that just watched it happen. >> it's an unusual policeman who thinks that in an arrest i've got to make sure my partner conducts himself appropriately. that's not how cops think. they really operate on the theory that the arrest is justified and the conduct of the officer is consistent with our training. and our training did not incl e include, i can't breathe.

>> that was abc7 news anchor eric thomas speaking with former san francisco mayor willie brown. he adds unless and until the racial tensions are addressed, we will continue to see indent invol >> $10 million to fight racial injustice. instagram which is owned by facebook is also promoting the #shareblackstories. the financial commitment comes as the menlo park company continues to face backlash over the looting and shooting post that appeared on its platforms last week. the president's phrase, when the looting starts, the shooting starts is a line that was used by segregationists in the 19 sa also responding to the outrage and protests over the death of george floyd. the company is pledging $1 million to address social injustice and racism. intel ceo sent a memo saying

black lives matter, period. the company is also encouraging employees focusing on equity and social justice. all right. let's take a look at what is going on weather wise as we come up on about 5:19 on this monday, june 1st. open the weather window from the exploratorium. partly cloudy this afternoon and help our temperatures rebound to seasonal levels. hot afternoons tuesday, wednesday and especially inland thursday as everybody else starts to get that cooling sea breeze that eventually brings us an unsettled chance of showers. will it be a repeat of last weekend? doesn't look like it quite yet. we have several days until we get there. i really enjoyed those thunderstorms. that was a fun treat. for the meteorologist in me. and the gardner. here's a look at our cloud cover. you can see by noon most of it is back to the coast and most of the fog pouring across the golden gate bridge which will drive by 3:00 and as we head

into the evening hours, a march eastward and not quite as widespread when you wake up tomorrow morning. so, for the afternoon hours,lou in mill pets and san jose 78 and 82 in gilroy and morgan hill. and 69 in millbrae. we have low to mid 60s along the coast today. we're not quite as breezy as it has been. upper 60s for downtown, south san francisco and sausalito. low to mid 60s and breezy along the north bay coast. you're a little bit cooler and upper 70s to low 80s through the north bay valleys. 71 to 75 along the east bay shore. as you move inland, we have 80 to 85 degrees. all right. lows tonight fall back in the 50s for most neighborhoods. concord out towards antioch and low to mid 60s. my accuweather forecast, tuesday after a little fog tomorrow morning. even warmer for wednesday. and we pull back on that sea breeze starts up especially along the coast and parts of the bay thursday and reaches all of us friday and then with the

june and plus it will fall on the weekend potentially. i want to jump ahead to friday. our best chance of showers up in the mountains, the sierra. but look at this as we head to saturday very unsettled weather over our neighborhoods and the system is so cold that some snow possibly falls up in the sierra as we head into sunday afternoon and evening. now, without the convective nature, the thunderstorms, the tropical influence that we had over the weekend, rainfall amounts will be much less than what some of us received over the weekend. looks like a tenth or less in most neighborhoods. and up to a quarter of an inch in the north bay. let's turn over to kumasi now for more news. >> thanks, mike. michael jordan is speaking out about the death of george floyd. jordan says he is deeply saddene saddened. we must listen to each other and show compassion and empathy and never turn on our backs on senseless brutality.

take a look at the video of walmart on davis street. it was on fire last night. firefighters say they don't know for sure that it was set on fire by looters, but that there were reports of looters at the store before they got there. no one was hurt in the fire. the firefighters were dealing with an explosive situation. >> we had active plane come in through the roof and the main source at that time was propane tanks which had exploded due to the heat. >> the home depot also on davis street was looted. people were hauling all kinemds. i just checked in with the police department here about whether any homes were targeted. the dispatcher says she doesn't think so. mainly businesses. the city of san leandro put a curfew in place in response to the violence and it was in place until 5:00 this morning. we did see some arrests being

made at the bay fair mall and we could see it from sky 7 and police say they don't have information about the number of people who were taken into custody. live in san leandro, amy hollyfield. >> thank you, amy. this morning police in hayward are investigating an incident and someone broke into richardson tactical. you can see a busted window at the shop. the gate was also busted and you can see people there trying to repair it. police haven't said yet what was taken from the store. in the south bay the sant eclaira county sheriff's office is investigating after a car plowed into a building. this is the smoke shop on west san carlos street and it appears the driver took off. according to the photographer who took this video the car was found running inside with nobody inside. we have reached out to the santa clara police office and we'll bring you new information as soon as we get it. three people detained after shots were fired at the oakland

administration building. this happened just after midnight. officers made the arrest about ten blocks away on san pablo avenue and no one was hurt. several bay area cities under curfew again tonight. san jose is ordering people to stay home from 8:30 p.m. to 5:00 in the morning for the next week or until further notice, if the situation demands it. santa clara's curfew runs the same hours and also extend until further notice. the curfew in san francisco will run indefinitely. it starts at 8:00 p.m. and just ended at 5:00 a.m. and danville declared a state of emergency and issued a mandatory curfew between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. businesses in the mission district were also looted and destroyed. this video shows the damage left after a jewelry store was broken in to. latino and black community leaders say they stand with george floyd and rs b will not stand for outsiders causing damage. >> if you know your is what we

infiltrators, instigators, prov prov provocators who come in because they want to discredit our movement. they want to discredit our anger. >> the leaders are calling on protesters to work with police rather than against them. in the east bay, the community of emeryville hit hard by looters over te weekend. several stores are now boarded up following two nights of jornl flo floyd protests. looters targeted several stores. and even a best buy van was set on fire saturday night. the mayor of emeryville says until we work on inequities, we should not be surprised by people breaking the law. >> we can fix the windows and we can bring these businesses back and they will be stronger. but let's treat people well and focus in on the human cost and not so much on property. >> emeryville will not be

issuing a curfew. the mayor believes it is too late and will only make the problem worse. despite the scattered violence, most of the ay area r. in hayward more than 100 people gathered outside the police station. and the show of solidarity from napa's police chief. you can see chief robert plumber took a knee with a group of protesters. napa police tweeted these photos showing the chief meeting with demonstrato demonstrators. the department wrote, we are with you. police say the demonstration at main and third was peaceful and the police chief in santa cruz also took a knee with protesters over the weekend. actor jamie foxx is going t leaders for a kneel-in protest. they are demanding an end to removing racist officers from departments. the protest scheduled to start at 11:00 this morning outside of san francisco city hall. and, of course, this goes way

beyond the bay area borders. jobina fortson looking at protests going on in other cities. jobina? >> thank you, motratio areveor aes like londo quickly overshadowed by incidents like you see here. a semi truck drove through a crowd in minneapolis yesterday. thankfully no protesters were he driver's rir s motives are unclear at this time. some protesters in washington, d.c., set a large fire near the white house while shouting, quote, you are the threat to police. this morning on "gma" terrance floyd says this is not what his brother would have wanted. >> he was about peace. he was about unity. about the things that is transpiring now. yeah, they may call it unity, but it's destructive unity. 's not what he was about. that's not what my brother was about.

>> terrance floyd is in minneapolis to visit the site where his brother died. he will talk more about that experience coming up at 7:00 on "gma" which is right here after abc7 mornings. >> thank you, jobina. the attorney general of minnesota is now taking over the prosecution of cases and rising from the death of george floyd. this comes days after ten members of minnesota state house wrote a letter to the state's governor asking him to transfer floyd's case to the attorney general's office. the letter said people of color had lost faith in the local county prosecutor. meanwhile, the officer accused of killing floyd is now in custody at the state prison in minnesota. derek chauvin's court date has been pushed back a week until next week. two atlanta police officers are out of a job this morning for using what the mayor calls excessive force on two college students during college protests. we want to warn you that the video you are about to see to w.

there. let me try to go back a little bit and restart this. i want to take a look at some other neighborhood because a lot more people are getting up at this time that haven't been because it's june 1st. we have 60 right now in oakland and san jose. everybody else pretty much in the mid to upper 50s. let's move on and talk about your commute planner and the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see a few cars out there and about 57 degrees and everything is going to be pretty good. low clouds this morning and cool conditions, seasonal this afternoon and if you're taking mass transit and lighter breezes out on the bay. all right. let's take a look at some neighborhood. we'll start at the peninsula where we have 60s through at least 10:00 and 70s at noon and mid 70s most of the afternoon hours under a partly cloudy sky and 68 at 8:00. how about the east bay 58 at 8:00 and 67 at baly mid 70s during the afternoon hours. 65 at 8:00 and our last stop will be san francisco where our

killing an act of domestic terrorism. oakland city and community leaders are denouncing the shooting and also speaking out against the destruction of property and looting. they say that the violence takes away from the message of the protests. >> i find myself really troubled by the images of young people who maybe not so young people but who have taken to the streets in oakland who are doing destruction in the name of our fallen. >> leaders also called for the arrest of officers involved in other fatal shootings that happened locally and denounced the shooting of two federal guards at the oakland federal building. happening today, several bay area counties will enter the next phase of reoping fro navirus shelter-in-place orders. child care facilities, botanical gardens and outdoor museums will reopen. san mateo will allow in-store retail and religious services to

what a fast pace their life is changing from getting married to adoption and starting a family. we're very excited for them and happy for them. let's talk about what is going on from the exploratorium this morning and you can see it's gray also as we look off towards the east now. a few sprinkles possible across the north bay. there is some radar return showing up. so don't be surprised if you see that. that is about 10,000 feet and the air is bone dry below that. let's talk about what will happen as we move throughout the day. the warming trend beginning and good news seasonal at night and even when it gets into the upper 90s in our inland neighborhoods. it will be coolest this weekend with a slight chance of wet weather saturday and now i'm thinking sunday, also. i'll show you that coming up in the next weather. let's focus in on today and what is going on with the fog. back to the coast and across the golden gate as we head towards the lunch hour and you can see by the afternoon, along the coast and open up for sunshine there and have to wait until

about 7:30, 8:00 for it to start making a small march back towards the east. south bay, 76 in milpitas and we have 78 in san jose and santa cruz about 73 and head up the peninsula and mid 70s and drop down to about 69 in millbrae. mid 60s along the peninsula coast where the breezes are little tamer compared to the north bay coast. upper 60s downtown and south san francisco and because those breezes are faster in the north bay coast, only low to mid 60s there and upper 70s to low 80s and 72 to 78 in your valleys. and as we head into the east bay valleys, one of the more comfortable days this week, 80 to 85 degrees. tonight we drop back into the mid 50s to low 60s with a little less cloud cover than this morning. that will help us jump 10 to 15 degrees across most neighborhoods tomorrow except for the coast. even warmer for wednesday. look at those mid 80s to nearing triple digits inland. we see some relief and we feel it. the coast into the bay.
