if you're getting up and heading off to work. let's take a look at what is going on. a lot of cloud cover on live doppler 7 and a few radar returns across the north bay and a lot of that evaporated before it reaches the ground because so dry below 10,000 feet and a sprinkle is possible. for the most part, it's gray this morning through 7:00 and temperatures pretty close to average. 55 to 58. as you look at the accuweather 12-hour planner. stay near 60 along the coast today where it will remainly gray and the clouds will open up and help us push to 63 to 79 around the bay and a comfortable 70 to 75 at 7:00. a little mini heat wave and another chance of weekend rain coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. here's reggie. >> mike, thank you. a walmart was looted last night in san leandro caught fire and flames inside the building on davis street. alameda county said the source was propane tanks that exploded. no word yet on how much

merchandise was damaged and nobody here was hurt. developing news, 80 people were arrested last night as the curfew went into effect in san lidprotests were mostly peacefu but shortly after 8:00 officers tried to protesters defied order, threw bottles and started fires. the curfew remains in effect until further notice. san jose under a similar curfew to so many cities across the bay area. julian glover is live for us. julian? >> hi, good morning, reggie. pretty quiet here from what we can tell overnight with that first night of that curfew being in place and lifted about 5:00 this morning and kicked in at 8:30 last night. this will run for seven days. but this was really in response to much of the violence and destruction that we saw mainly in parts of a downtown san jose that capped off what were

peaceful protests on friday and saturday and sunday, as well. again, the curfew kicked in at 8:30 last night and it will run for the next seven days. now, part of the reason for the curfew is to stop planned looting that the department got wind of for sunday night. that's all krooaccording to pol chief eddie garcia after millions of dollars of damage was done to businesses friday and saturday leeading to the arrest of 100 people. >> we have, however, seen episodes of violent conduct ranging from the horrific, as we saw with the woman who drove her suv through the crowd entering into bystanders. >> so, it's muni code violation and what i'll say it we're going to be very judicious in the way that we use it. >> chiefar making it clear that in the news conference sunday announcing the curfew, this is not martial law. curfew

would be used judiciously. i have reached out to san jose police this morning trying to figure out if anyone was arrested last night for breaking the curfew. i have not heard back so far. but we do want to point out, very few exceptions to this curfew for first responders and a few other folks like members of the media. so, do take this seriously as it lasts the next seven days. reporting live in san jose this morning, i'm julian glover, abc7 news. >> thank you, julian. in the east bay, sky 7 captured about a dozen looters running out of shoe palace in oakland with merchandise. you can see some packed their cars and then drove off but not at lea one pern was arrested. all of this caught on video. the man was on his knees with his hands up before officers handcuffed him. in walnut creek sky 7 was over head as thieves hit dozens of stores at broadway plaza. looters fought amongst each other for stolen items they took from stores. movi. cs werep the items

we are expected to heargove demonstrations across andn it right here on abc7 andabc7news.com. jobina fortson is at the live desk with what is going on at the white house. jobina? >> thank you, kumasi. yes. hundreds of protesters rallied outside of the white house all weekend long and some trying to er towards the white house clashing with police officers in the area. president trump was no where in sight. he was briefly taken to an underground bunker because of safety concerns. the white house is divided on how to handle the protests. abc's cecilia vega said they want the chief of staff to deliver a formal address addressing policeofrs. adviser d son-in-law belies this would no

well come november when it is time for the electio. president trump tweeted over the weekend saying that the u.s. will designate as a terrorist organization and calling on democrats to do more to stop the protest. reggie? >> jobina, thank you. a san jose police officer taken off the streets while an internal affairs investigation is under way. video surfaced of him appearing to taunt protesters on friday. abc7 news i-team reporter dan noyes has more on that. >> reporter: friday in san jose 33-year-old jared yuen appears ready for actionojtincnd anor draws a reaction from the crowd. >> they're having a blast. >> reporter: he runs away and back and says -- andrea is a founding member of berkeley cop watch. >> he was escalating an already

seemingly tense situation and making it worse. and thus endangering members of the public. >> reporter: in a second video, a woman asks him, why are you on that side? he answers -- seconds later he reaches around another officer and fires a projectile. the scuffle is on. cop watch points out those projectiles like the same one i picked up at the protest on friday can be dangerous fired that way. >> they are a crowd control weapon. they are meant to disperse crowds, et cetera. not meant to be fired at close range. >> reporter: those videos spread across twitternd announcedthat from street duty. >> i'm not happy with his actions. i'm sur be embarrassed, as well. i know jared and he is a good kid. made a mistake who let his emotions get the better of him. >> reporter: the only asian american on the san jose city council says he should not be fired. >> we have to proceed and call

out wrongs, but we need to provide space to win people's hearts and minds and allow them a chance to atone and win allies as we continue on the righteous path. >> public records show that officer yuen earned $225,000 if you count overtime and benefits. he has been on the job for six years. for the i-team, dan noyes, abc7 news. the santa clara county superior court will be closed today. court officials say this is in the interest of public safety in response to civil unrest and san jose's curfew. they plan to monitor circumstances today and they'll > e cnt now struggling going to with two major th oma demonstrations and the fight against coronavirus. plus, facebook announces it's joining the fight against racial injustice. the promise the company is making this morning. and the weekend is over and so is our chance of wet weather

abc7 news. >> all news, all morning. new video shows some of the unrest happening in new york city earlier this morning. looters ransacked businesses and set fires in the soho district. they broke into designer brand stores like rolex, chanel andyo curfew. there has been little social distancing happening as the protests continue to go on across the country and health officials are worried about a spike in cases after these protests. jobina fortson is live with more on that. jobina? >> thank you, reggie. many government officials are urging protesters to continue tt is hard to do right now, especially with hundreds of thousands of people gathering around each other. health experts say mask demonstrations are potential hotbeds for the coronavirus.

they also say widespread mistrust in the government will undermine their ability to track covid-19 cases. this comes as states move further into reopening their economies. coronavirus cases in 15 states, including california, are on the rise. kumasi. >> thank you, jobina. san francisco london breed says some protesters took it too far when they showed up at her house. >> all white people yelling black lives matter. protesting in front of my house. but that didn't bother me as much as the taunting of me coming outside with firework torches in their hands looking like what used to happen when the kkk would show u to b peoples' houses to burn their houses down. don't come for me, because i'm not the one. >> the mayor spoke yesterday during a peaceful rally for george floyd in the mission district. mayor breed joined protesters and yekneeled in solidarity.

facebook pledging $10 million to fight racial injustice. instagram owned by facebook is promoting the #shareblackstories. the menlo-based company continues to face backlash over the handling of looting and shooting posts that appeared on its platforms last week. the president's phrase when the looting starts, the shooting starts is a line used by ofeoe oyionists in the ondio heh e mpany is pledging $1 million to address social injustice and racism. bob swann sent a memo to company employees saying black lives matter. encouraging employees to donate to organizations focused on equity and social justice. all right. it's 6:17 and now checking in with mike for a look at the

millbrae and upper 60s in downtown, south san francisco and north bay coast a little breezy and that's why you're at 62 to 63 degrees and inland we'll see more sunshines across the north bay and anywhere after having a few sprinkles this morning. 77 to 82 degrees. along the east bay shore hercules 75 the warm spot. as you go inland 80 to pleasanton and livermore. and tonight we'll drop back into the mid and upper 50s in most neighborhoods. 50 in half moon bay on one extreme to 63 in antioch the other. here's a look at my accuweather seven-day forecast. 15 degree jump in temperatures tomorrow. our warmest day wednesday. a few neighborhoods in the east bay like antioch, brentwood and fairfield possibly reaching triple digits and then the sea breeze kicks in thursday. all of us are back to average friday and below average saturday and sunday and a chance

of rain coming up next. new this morning, some schools in england reopened as coronavirus restrictions eased. schools have been closed for ten weeks now because of the pandemic. teachers made changes to classrooms like separating desks and splitting classes up. a study shows many parents are choosing to keep their kids at home. in some parts of the uk, schools are closed until at least the start of the next academic year. all right. look at this. queen elizabeth back in the saddle. new pictures taken over the weekend show the 94-year-old monarch riding a pony named fern. it is her first public appearance since the coronairus lockdown. the queen has been staying home with husband prince philip for the last ten weeks. she delayed carrying out official duties. all right. good morning america coming up at 7:00 right here on abc7. >> here's ginger zee with a look at what's ahead. >> hi, reggie, kumasi.

local law enforcement joined in honoring george floyd's life this weekend. i do motivational speakingld. in addition to the substitute teaching. i honestly feel that that's my calling-- to give back to younger people. i think most adults will start realizing that they don't recall things as quickly as they used to or they don't remember things as vividly as they once did. i've been taking prevagen for about three years now. people say to me periodically, "man, you've got a memory like an elephant." it's really, really helped me tremendously. prevagen. healthier brain. better life.

what a weird cycle we're in. last week we had the heat wave for four days and then the tropical thunderstorms over the weekend. today we're going to have or this week a mini heat wave and then look at this as we head to friday, we'll see showers up in the sierra and then look at that, a chance of showers for us saturday and again sunday. but they're not looking like tropical thunderstorms we had over the weekend. of course, as we get closer, we'll dial it in and let you know. here's kumasi. >> video shows hitting an amazon delivery van. it was parked on the street in santa monica when people broke out the windows and opened the back door and started taking out packages. it was parked from the shopping thi whole bus -- e scene of de

>> reporte muni helped transport officers during the protests. a muni spokesperson tells us its services are always available for critical needs whether it's transporting coronavirus patients or police officers. thousands of people joined together in oakland demanded justice for george floyd in a caravan. sky7 show you these cars lining up near the port of oakland yesterday afternoon. that went on for miles. drivers headed from the port into downtown and as you can see, some of them having signs on the front of them. and then they drove around lake merritt where cyclists and walkers joined in. organizers say they're not just protesting for floyd but all black people who died at the hands of police. this protest was peaceful. law enforcement leaders throughout the country are taking a lead to honor george floyd. santa cruz police chief andy mills honor floyd and raise

attention to police mistreatment. hundreds joined in solidarity with that message. nba legend michael jordan is speaking out. he is deepened saddened and truly pained and just plain angry. we must listen to each other, show compassion and empathy and never turn our backs on senseless brutality. demand accountability. with so much going on right now across the united states, parents may be wondering how to approach their kids or what to do when kids approach them with questions. psychiatrist janet taylor gave some tips on "gma" and says parents should be open and honest with their children. >> communication is key. talk up and explain and talk to our children about the anxiety that we're feeling, which they are feeling, as well. and how teach them how to resolve that. how to soothe themselves because what we don't want is our

tonight.ffort to stop theew aga the protests against the death of george floyd gets support from bay area police. what you're seeing here is napa's police chief taking a knee in a powerful show of solidarity. goodern moi morning to you monday, june 1st. a whole lot going on and we'll discuss that in just a moment. we'll begin with mike nicco and a look at the forecast on this monday. >> hi, reggie, kumasi. a few sprinkles in the north bay and light shower in the central valley and most of this moisture is above 10,000 feet and it is evaporating and adding to the grayness that you can see and a light onshore breeze which will help keep temperatures at bay today but tomorrow it will get hot, again. today we warm back to average with the mid to upper 60s and the coast into san francisco and low to mid 70s around the bay. we have upper 70s in the south bay and some low 80s in the north bay and then low to mid

80s in the east bay. so, a little mini heat wave, not as long as last week before another chance of wet weather this weekend. supposed to be june, supposed to be dry. it will be nice to have some rain. tbahaalls on the weekend. nk you, mike. businesses all across the bay area will be cleaning up after break ins and looting. sky7 got this video over san leandro last night and looters grabbing stuff from ulta beauty and this was not the only store targeted. amy hollyfield is live at the police department with more from the scene. >> hi, kumasi. most of the downtown here , th. mandy's jewelry store was broken in to and was ransacked. this was on 14th street. there were people on twitter begging people to leave small businesses in san leandro alone and most in the area look okay, but this one was targeted and the gamestop was also broken in

to and the big box stores. the walmart on davis street was set on fire and firefighters say while they were on the scene, propane tanks in the store were exploding. no one was hurt. firefighters say they can't say for sure that looters set the store on fire, but say the walmart was looted. >> yes. there were actual reports coming from the walmart, but i can't specify the actual time of the looting. i arrived in san leandro aroundd 10:00 tonight and just providedt al o d re, pardon w peee ims fm that home depot. san leandro implemented a curfew right before 11:00 last night in response to the violence. we did see from our sky7 camera some arrests were made. they don't know how many people they took into custody. they're still processing everything that happened.

reporting live in san leandro, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. this morning police in hayward are investigating a looting incident at a gun store. someone broke into richardson tactical. the gate was busted and you can see people trying to repair it. police haven't said what was taken from the store. newhirnop he been detained shots were fired at the oakland police administration building. it happened just after midnight at the building on 7th street but officers made the arrest about ten blocks away on san pablo avenue and thankfully no one was hurt. this just in from oakland police. roughly 60 people were arrested last night. opd said the suspects are accused of shooting at officers, vandalism, looting and possession of firearms. department also says looting and breakins around the international boulevard. there were also multiple incidents of side show activity. we're also told one officer had life-threatening injuries and had to be taken to the hospital. several bay area cities will

be under curfew again tonight. san jose ordering people to stay home from 8:30 to 5:00 in the morning or until further notice if the situation demands it. santa clara's curfew runs the same hours and the curfew in san francisco also going on indefini indefinitely. starts at 8:00 p.m. and ends at 5:00 a.m. danville issued a mandatory curfew between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. businesses in the mission district also got looted. this video shows the damage left after a jewelry store was broken in to. latino and black community leaders say they stand with george floyd and protesters but they will not stand for outsiders causing damage. >> if you know your history, you know there is what we call infiltrators, instigators, provocators that come in because they want to discredit our movement. they want to discredit our anger. >> the leaders are also calling

on protesters to work with police rather than against looters. crews spent all day yesterday cleaning up the broken glass. they targeted h&m and at best buy one of the vans was set on fire saturday night. the mayor said until we work on unequities, we should not be surprised by people breaking the law. >> we can fix all these windows and bring the businesses back and they'll be stronger. we have gone through this before. let's treat people well and focus on the human cost and not so much on property. >> emeryville will not be issuing a curfew. the mayor believes it is too late and will make the matter worse. most of the protests in the bay area remain peaceful. in hayward more than 100 people gathered outside the police station.

quickly overshadowed by incidents you see here. a semi truck drove through a crowd in minneapolis yesterday. thankfully no protesters were hurt and the driver was arrested. the go says the driver 's motives are unclear protesters d.c., started a large fire near the white house. this morning on "gma" george floyd's brother, terrance floyd said this is not what his brother would have wanted. >> he was about peace and about unity. about the things that is transpiring now, yeah, they may call it unity, but it's destructive unity. it's not what he was about. >> terrance floyd is in minneapolis to visit the site where his brother died. he will speak more about that experience coming up at 7:00 on "gma" right here after "abc7 mornings." >> thank you, jobina. the investigation into the killing of a federal officer in oakland now being called

we'll take a look at our heat and our chance of rain coming up in the seven-day forecast. here's kumasi with more news. new thisern moi morning, 12 are displaced after f at an apartment building in oakland. crews say they were able to stop the fire from spreading. it caused minimal damage to the building and to cars parked outside and thankfully no one was hurt. the attorney general of minnesota is now taking over the prosecution of cases arising from the death of george floyd. this comes days after ten members of minnesota state house wrote a letter to the state's governor asking him to transfer floyd' case to the attorney general's office. the letter said people of color have lost faith in the local county prosecutor. meanwhile, the officer accused of killing floyd is now in custody at the state prison in minnesota. charges have yet to be filed against three other officers involved in floyd's death. cnn's sara sidner spoke to the

first night of the curfew after a couple nights of violence and destruction to some businesses that capped off what we know were peaceful protests. we are getting reports of some attempted looting on santana row in san jose last night, but sounds as if they dideto far. the curfew kicked in at 8:30 last night and expired not too long ago at 5:00. it will run for the next seven days. now, part of the reason for the curfew to stop planned looting and window for sunday night according to chief eddie garcia after millions of dollars was done tousinessesigturd. hundreds of people arrested for that. chief garcia making it clear announcing the curfew that this is not martial law and any power to arrest someone for violating said curfew would be used judiciously. now, we are hearing this morning that the superior court here in santa clara county is going to be closed today. judge deborah ryan saying she was closing the courthouse in an abundance of caution and the

interest of safety. that curfew lasting for the next six days and goes back into effect at 8:30 p.m. tonight and expires every morning the next day at 5:00 a.m. reporting live in san jose this morning, i'm julianover, julian investigators are looking for a white van in connection with the killing of a security officer at the federal building in oakland. 53-year-old dave patrick underwood died after being shot by a gunman in a passing van friday night. surveillance video shows the vehicle and another security officer was also hurt. the fbi has taken the lead in this investigation and teams continue to scour that area for evidence. a memorial for underwood has been set up outside of the courthouse guard station. you can see some of the bullet holes still there in those windows. department of homeland security official calls his killing an act of domestic terrorism. oakland city and community leaders are denouncing the shooting. they're also speaking out against the destruction of property and looting.

they say that the violence takes away from the message of the protests. >> i find myself really troubled by the images of young people who maybe not so young people but who have taken to the streets in oakland who are doing destruction in the name of our fallen. >> the community leaders also called for the arrest of officers involved in other fatal shootings that have happened locally. the death of george floyd may be the catalyst for the protests that we're seeing, but former san francisco mayor willie brown says the anger and frustration behind them has really been building for decades. abc7 news anchor eric thomas spoke with him. >> over the history of this country where there's been a confrontation allegedly between a black person and a white cop, the conduct has its heritage in the original conduct between

can see the fog retreating back to the coast except for right around the golden gate bridge and heading over to places like richmond and emeryville and even that kind of goes away as we head into the afternoon hours. so, let's talk about your temperatures and down in the south bay, 76 in milpitas and 78 san jose and santa clara and los gatos and as you head up from palo alto to redwood city and mid 50s along the peninsula coast to few upper 60s in downtown and south san francisco and little breezy along the north bay coast and little cooler. and in the valleys we have 77 in san rafael to 82 in santa rosa and napa and vallejo. mid to low 70s along the east bay shore with oakland at 72 and as you move into the valleys, 80 to 85 degrees. now, tonight, we'll fall back pretty much same temperatures as this morning, just not as much cloud cover. let's take a look at the potential rain this weekend. it's not tropical thunderstorms like we had over the weekend,
