fired tear-gas to the crowd when a tew the do protesters could be seen taking off running. they did get the freeway cleared by about 6:30. there was a peaceful protest in downtown walnut creek, to show support for the black lives movement. we did drive around and and andd see if businesses were damaged, but we saw a lot of boarded up windows and doors here in the downtown area. in oakland more than 40 people were arrestedndti the city's 8:00 p.m. curfew. new video shows officers putting zip ties on multiple people last

night, and the students called it the george floyd solidarity march. marched from oakland tech high school towards city hall and oakland police headquarters. students stressed it was a peaceful protest of law enforcement in america. the giant crowd marched 40 blocks downtown. that event drew hundreds of people cheering them on, and kaiser health care workers were cheered on by thousands ofnd ci ha estimated that 15,000 people came together here. curfews are still in effect all over the bay area. you can see the locations and times here on this map.

responding to president trump. the governor offered support for protesters, and he says violence will not be tolerated. >> i could be part of the daily back and forth in the news cycle and continue to perpetuate the poblems that persist in this country or i can choose to focus a message that i think is so much more powerful and i hope more residents, people watching, and that is i care more about them than some of the noise i heard on a morning phone call. >> the phone call governor news kwruplg newsom is referring to is the phone call with the president and governors telling them to dominate their communities. and then shelter-in-place orders ease up, how different your shopping experience now looks on the peninsula.

before we get to those stories, mike nicco has our forecast. >> hi, everybody. let's take a look at what is going on right now at 4:37. we will start with north bay temperatures, low to mid-50s in most neighborhoods. 60 at vallejo. o we have a few 60s around fairfield, and mid-60s around tracy and the rest of us in the mid to upper 50s this morning. that's going to feel comfortable compared to tomorrow morning. here's a look at your bay bridge toll plaza. the temperature is what we will struggle with this afternoon. look at the south bay, 67 at 8:00, and 84 at noon, and near 90 for a couple hours this afternoon, and still 80 at 8:00, and look at the sunshine in the north bay. low to mid-90s for most of the afternoon hours. we will dip down to 83 at

and look at those mid-even a few upper 90s for several hours this afternoon, and only 86 at 8:00. a big jump in temperatures today, and hotter tomorrow. i will show you those numbers coming up, and jobina is wearing her traffic hat this time. what is going on with the commute? >> i have to let people know there's going to be mass transit changes because of the curfews that have been put in place across the bay area. pulling up the graphic so everybody can see, and ac transit will not resume until 5:00 a.m., and then all routes to and from san francisco, there will be no service between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., and bart has not chaes to their system. right now, san jose

along the coast. and still in the 80s away from the coast as we head through 8:00. we have got a couple heat pumps pushing all the desert heat up towards us. it will be 100 not only in the desert but up in sacramento, and upper 90s for most of the central valley. 77 in monterey and 76 in tahoe today. kumasi? >> thanks, mike. firefighters are working to find the cause of this massive five alarm fire in sacramento. it's near an ol plant, and businesses affected have high-fuel materials, and two firefighters suffered minor burns. after three nights of vandalism and looting oakland business owners are picking up the pieces. abc7 news reporter spoke with one owner that is facing close to $20,000 in damages, but the

community's response is keeping them hopeful. >> keep it oakland. that's exactly what this oakland native decided to do, when opening three restaurants in her community. over this weekend this one was looted and vandalized. >> these are our babies. our businesses are our children. we don't have children, and when they destroy these businesses they destroy a little piece of us. >> her husband ran to their restaurant to protect it, finding looters inside, taking electronics and alcohol. >> i jumped through the window and got everybody out. >> he was assaulted as the group ran out. >> my heart was already broken because of, you know, what's going on in this country. >> first it was covid and having to close, and now this. they recently took down a sign from their window that said black owned after receiving threats, telling them she is not black enough. >> i don't have time for people who want to destroy us just

nearly every business was putting up plywood. we saw police cars blocking off the intersection there. abc7 is focused to helping you build a better bay area. let's talk more about the economy. businesses picking back up in san mateo as they start allowing customers inside stores. small businesses only allow a few customers in at a time to maintain social distancing but customers seem to really appreciate that effort. >> owners of the store care for their community and are doing their best to keep things clean and make sure we feel safe. as long as i know theytentions shopping this way. >> some businesses are letting customers make reservations online so they can have the store to themselves and this is all in an effort to make shoppers feel safe. the time now is 4:46.

hi, mike. >> hi, kumasi. how are you? >> good. how about you? >> i am doing well,e l of the h wave coming our way but thankfully it won't be as long as last week and won't be as strong, but for you in san francisco, you like warmth and you will get that today, and your temperatures will be about 80 degrees for the next two days, and in the nighttime i am worried about people being able to sleep. mostly sunny and the heat arrives today. not as comfy the next two nights and a cool weekend with an unsettled pattern means there's a possibility of showers still in the forecast, and it's june and that's a little unusual. 90 to 95 in the south bay today with 92 in san jose. 83 in millbrae. everybody else around 90 on the peninsula. over at the coast, we will have low to mid-70s, and near 80 downtown, south san francisco,

sausalito, and near 70 along the north bay coast. now along the eastbound shore we will have mid-80s to near 90 degrees, with 86 in places like berkeley. we have got mid-90s and a fewit east bay valleys. tonight 50s and 60s in the hills where it will be in the 60s and 70s, and that's for a brief time in the morning. most of the overnight hours will be pretty warm. not the best night for sleeping. here's a look at the heat advisory. heat peaks tomorrow with moderate risk of heat illnesses. and then you can see temperatures below average saturday and sunday with breezes and a chance of showers best on saturday but not enough to warrant a storm impact scale, not just yet. kumasi? >> thanks. and then some facebook

employees organized a walkout because of zuckerberg's post. here's "tech bytes." >> hundreds of facebook employees staging a virtual walkout, and that came in protests on their boss's stance on president trump's post. add sony to the list of companies delaying the list of new products. sony says it's not a time for celebration, referencing george floyd's killing and chaos in the streets. and social media users can buy a tv that is portrait or landscape mode. the 43-inch samsung will be aboutou "tech bytes."

check out the lack of clouds from the exploratorium camera and that shows you today will be a little different than yesterday. it's comfortable out there, about 56 degrees right now under the clear sky.

but then 11 to 15 degrees warmer than yesterday, so don't be surprised this afternoon just because the day starts out the same this morning. it's not going to end the same this afternoon. you may need a jacket this morning, and definitely won't need one this afternoon. look at the sizzling temperatures inland, 90s and 100s, and 80s to around 90 around the bay. you can see the coast cooling the most on thursday, and parts of the inland, holding on to the 90s, and then by friday 60s and 70s for most of us and a few 80s in the inland neighborhoods. we will take a look at the wet weather chances coming up this weekend. remote working and growing unemployment is pushing rent down in areas of the bay area. apartment rental site zumper say rent in mountain view is down 16% from a year ago, and about 9.5% down in san francisco, and

the one exception in oakland where rent was up 5% compared to last year. your amazon delivery may be a little late this week. the company says it's keeping in close contact with local officials and tracking protests around the country, and amazon says the safety of its employees are safe. the company is changing routes as the situation warrants, and amazon says the changes may affect delivery times. major league baseball is still struggling to come up with a plan that everybody can return to to return to play this month. espn is reporting that the player's association is proposing a 114 game regular season schedule that would run to october 31st, and the plan would cover the player salaries.

and espn believes we will still see baseball. >> i will be honest. i think major league baseball believes we are green light and we will have baseline, and the headline is we will have major league baseball this season, whether it's a 60-game season or an 80-game season, or perhaps more or fewer than 60, but we will have baseball this season. >> well, when it does resume,ma most likely be without fans in the stands. i don't know, mike, at this point i think people want to watch any kind of sports. >> can you imagine the most mundane sports we would watch right now. we would watch a couple kids playing marbles. come on. a little competitive there. i'm with you, as long as i keep busy with my house i try not to think about it, but i am one of the biggest sport fans around and it's tough when you miss that part of your life. let's look at what is going on this weekend.

friday we have a few showers, even thunderstorms up in the sierra. we will just see increasing clouds and cooler conditions. you can see saturday's chances for showers, and this is a colder system coming down from alaska, and we had thunderstorms but not expecting that this weekend and not expecting nearly as heavy rain, and saturday is turning drier, but up in the sierra we have a chance of snow at the higher elevations, that's how cold this system is. let's take a look at our potential wet weather. the next two days will dry out your gardens and yard, and you will have to water because we will get less than 0.1 inch of rain in most neighborhoods. coming up next at 5:00, a police pursuit winds through vallejo overnight. what officers found inside the vehicle.

>> a community coming together again today to clean up vandalism from recent protests. how you can pitch in. it's june 2nd, and we have a lot of stories to get to, and first we want to get to mike because he's talking about a heat wave. >> yeah, a little mini heat wave. last week was four days and this week's will be two days. we have clear skies in the morning as the sea breeze has backed off and the marine layer is nonexistent. the warm air is coming in at higher elevations, and as the sun comes up and turns the atmosphere over, it will work its way down to the ground. 62 to 71 at already in the 80s by noon, and 87 and 93, so the heat is back around the bay and inland by 4:00, but still very comfortable at the coast.
