way. a text message blossomed into a march with 15,000 on monday and today organizers of two demonstrations hope to do the same. good morning, everybody. it is wednesday, june 3rd. we'll get to all those stories shortly but first checking in with mike. good morning, mike. >> good morning, reggie, kumasi. today is the day. the hottest day this week. and that means a heat advisory starts at 10:00 for most of us and goes through 9:00. we already had the heat advisory in solano county and that goes until 8:00 and lake and o tindhose are most dangerous and no breeze out there. it will develop a little bit along the coast as you can see in the accuweather 12-hour planner. the rest of us, no such luck. we're starting off warmer. already 83 to 92 at noon and 900 to 100 at 4:00. and 80s and 90s at 4:00.
5:01 am

looting over the last several days. whether there are roving groups of looters. >> we believe that those are an organized element that really moves around and co-ops meaningful, peaceful demonstrations for those acts of violence. >> there was a protest in oakland monday that drew an estimated 15,000 people and we saw a few incidents but for the most part it was peaceful and struck a chord with one member of the police force. >> both included not only students but family members and people from all throughout the bay area and our community. they came out. they showed out in great numbers and even my own daughter participated in that march. >> the protests started in oakland technical high school and went down broadway before ending at city hall. two students organized that monday march. today young people are planning to lead marches, again, in two bay area cities and abc7 julian glover is live with more on that. julian. >> hey, good morning, reggie.
5:03 am
this is really incredible. we're learning that young people aren't on the front lines of the organized marches and protests and in many cases not just here in the bay area but across the u.s. a huge part organizing these and using tech savvy skills to create a movement. some 15,000 strong, according to oakland pd was organized by two 19-year-old students who happened to be childhood friends who are both freshman in college. they believe the turnout was so large because young people joined the cause along older generations. the two young men said it all start would the text message and they felt they had to do something to show their solidity with the people of minneapolis and that led to organizing on social media which is a hallmark of their connected generation. >> young people are underrated because we're some of the smartest people in the world. we're students for a reason. we're always engaged and education and what's going on.
