is another hot day. >> yes, it is. but it is the last one for a lot of us. but it's also one of the most dangerous days this week because it is the hottest day. let's take a look at what is going on with our advisories and most of them began today. already solano county yours started yesterday. let's take a look at what is going on as far as the conditions outside. high pressure over top of us and you can see barely a breeze out there and absolutely no sign of the marine layer clouds. they're on vacation for today. they'll come back tomorrow and more so as we head towards the weekend. we're looking at what's going on and you can see that temperatures at the coast are going to be a little more comfortable today. 60s and 70s there while the rest of us warm rapidly and 90 to 100 at 4:00 and still around 80 to 90 at 7:00. we'll take a look at that nearly 30 degree temperature drop for the weekend and the chances of rain coming up. first, back to kumasi for the news. >> thanks, mike. in the south bay, several people were detained after san jose's 8:00 curfew went into effect last night. this was after a protest near

city hall. you can see at least one driver started doing doughnuts and as we can see from sky7 a pretty large police respon.os moved in moved in and blocked some roads there. police in san francisco arrested about 20 people overnight for breaking curfew. the department says the protesters were near the hall of justice. santa rosa police made several arrests in pacific and mendocino avenue. they had no reports of violence or looting. the department says that officers watched over two peaceful demonstrations. now we have seen some widespread looting over the previous days. interim oakland police chief susan mannheimen were asked about roving groups of looters. >> we believe that meaningful demonstrations for those acts of violence. >> a protest in oakland on

monday that drew an estimated 15,000 people. we saw a few incidents, but for the most part, it was peaceful and struck a cord with one member of the police force. >> both included not only students but family members and people from all throughout the bay area and our community. they came out. they showed out in great numbers and even my own daughter participated in that march. >> and the protests started oakland technical high school and went down broadway before ending at city hall. more on that just now because two students organized that march and young people plan to lead marches in two bay area cities. julian glover is live with more on that. julian? >> hey, good morning, reggie. truly remarkable young people. we're learning that they're not only on the front lines of many of the protests we're seeing in the bay area and across the country, but that iaey are lead the charge to create this movement. this massive crowd, as you all

mentioned of 15,000 people in oakland on monday. this was organized by two 19-year-old students who happened to be childhood friends who are now both freshman in college. they believe the turnout was so large because young people joined alongside older generations. the two young men said it start would a text message. they felt they had to do something to show their solidarity and that led to organizing on social media which we know is a hallmark of their connected generation. >> young people are underrated because we're some of the smartest people in the world. like we're students for a reason. we're always engaged in education and what's going on and students, we're always thinking so i think we're very powerful. >> now, reggie, as you mentioned today we're learning of two more marches across the bay area led by young people. one in east palo alto and the other in san francisco starting

at mission high at 4:00 p.m. those fliers on your screen. to be clear, each of the protests that have been led and to be created by these young people in the bay area. they have asked that these marches remain peaceful and they have denounced looting or any acts of violence. reporting live this morning, i'm julian glover. >> we look forward to seeing it. two protests. a march and rally at 34th avenue and international boulevard starting at 5:00 p.m. and a demonstration is planned in san mateo. it will start at city hall and end at the police station on franklin parkway. protests across the country have been mostly peaceful, though some did turn violent. jobina fortson is at the live desk with more on what is happening in other cities. jobina? >> hundreds of thousands of people have been taking to the streets protesting for justice for more than a week now. we're beginning to see some more protests recently starting with

chicago. a peaceful protest yesterday. ds hands up, don't shoot. in boston protests took a war t officers. scattered reports of looting in new york city overnight but the situation is much calmer now than it has been in recent days. as for what is going on in minneapolis where george floyd died. the minneapolis school board is cutting ties with the city's police department. the school board says it does not trust the police to protec its kids. the wife of the former police officer is filing for divorce. kelly chauvin says her ten-year marriage with derek chauvin is beyond saving. and the minnesota human rights commission will be investigating the minneapolis police department. i'll have more on coming up on that in the next half hour. back to you, kumasi. >> thank you, jobina. in houston, which is george floyd's hometown at least 200

a son. >> i know what it means to have that black hole in your chest where your grief is being sucked into it. >> reporter: mona kosar abdi, abc news, new york. back here in the bay area, san francisco district attorney wants to ban sfpd from hiring officers who have a record of prior misconduct. he announced this new resolution in response to the protest. there are currently loopholes in theist ism that prevent the public from knowing if a new hire is previously investigated. >> the goal behind this resolution is to ensure that san francisco has a blanket ban on hiring people with that kind of serious misconduct in their record. or people who have avoided those misconduct findings by quitting a job while an investigation is ongoing. >> the former minneapolis police officer charged in the murder was the subject of at least 17 prior complaints. this morning, there is

abc7 news. all news, all morning. protesters are seeing more national guard troops around the city, including at the lincoln memorial. here's what it looked like as dozens of heavily armed troops stood on its steps. senator elizabeth warren who joined protesters in d.c. accused the president of instigating violence. >> it's wrong.>> people are her peacefully. >> more than 20,000 members of the national guard have been

deployed to 29 states. and that includes california. here's what it looked like in los angeles. you can see vehicles parked outside of the theater. cell phone video shows soldiers lined up along hollywood boulevard yesterday. l.a. times more than 1,000 demonstrators gathered for a peaceful protest. in the south bay, some concern about where prescription drugs might end up after a family-owned pharmacy was hit by looters. just before 9:00 p.m. on sunday vandals threw a tire iron through the glass door front of garcia pharmacy. you can see here in this video, seven people run into this family-run drugstore and in two minutes they managed to cause almost $300,000 in damage. they cleared out about 150 deliveries that were meant to go out to patients and they damaged equipment. >> the window was smashed and everything inside was just a mess. they shot off the fire extinguisher all over the medications. i have to destroy the medications. it's not sanitary.

>> the owners hope they will reopen today with wrap around boarding to deter any future looters. time now 6:17 and we're checking in with mike for a look at our hot forecast. good morning, mike. >> good morning, kumasi. reggie. hi, everybody. we'll start with the hot sunshine showing up on the exploratorium camera where it's a comfortable 59 degrees. better sleeping tomorrow night. and the heat collapses this weekend. so, hopefully you can sleep in and enjoy that. our high and low are still pumping up that heat from the desert southwest. the lows backing to the west and it's retrograding and allow that massive cloud you see in the upper left-hand corner of your screen to bring us the relief. because it is coming from the pacific northwest and alaska not have much moisture. the weekend trending a little drier. let's talk about today. low to mid 90s throughout most of the south bay. 97 to 101 there. on the peninsula 94 in redwood

city and hottest 84 in millbrae and low to mid 70s along the coast and that will change as the sea breeze kicks in and drops you back to the 60s. 80 near downton and sausalito and little breezier on the north bay coast and low to mid 70s before you drop in to the low to mid 60s this afternoon and look at the north bay to cloverdale at 100. along the east bay shore, 86 at richmond and record 89 in oakland and 94 in fremont and a record tying 102 in concord. tonight 50s and 60s and just like this morning, just about an hour in the earliest part of the morning when it will feel that comfortable. most of us in the 60s and 70s overnight. now, we've changed the fan to an air conditioner because we were told to upgrade. there's your wall unit and one of the ways to stay cool today. find some ac. take frequent breaks in the shade if you don't have ac and

stay hydrated with water. let's take a look at that charge of cooler weather that hits the coast. 60s tomorrow and 80s and 90s for the rest of us and 70s and 80s friday. below average this weekend with a real stout marine layer and breezy, gusty conditions especially sunday and a slight chance of wet weather saturday. that is your forecast for now. let's get back to you guys. kumasi? new developments involving the college entrance exam for students appears that the idea of a take-home test is off the table. checking in with jobina at the live desk with more on this. jobina? >> thank you, kumasi, yes. there was talk about an at-home version of the s.a.t. because of the pandemic this year and now the college board is saying it will not pursue those plans and taking the s.a.t. at home would require uninterrupted internet access which can't be guaranteed for all students. the college board ran into difficulties administeringing advanced placement test at home last month. a group of students sued saying

weather saturday and one of the best chances will be in the morning or one of the best times and that's when the real thick marine layer and drizzle is possible, especially along the coast and in the higher elevations around the bay. our best chance of any organized wet weather mainly up around mendicino county and sierra where it turns into snow at higher elevations and better chance of that happening as we head through sunday. it looks like our weekend is trending a lot drier, but up to 30 degrees cooler for most of us. reggie? >> mike, thank you. in the north bay, sonoma county is reopening more today. sonoma coast beaches and parking lots will reopen to the public and this weekend you'll see more economic activity, including and this is a big one, indoor dining at restaurants. wineries and breweries. in-store shopping and barbershops and hair salons can reopen. churches would also be allowed to welcome up to 100 people for religious services. usc plans to welcome its students back to. cas this fall. the university says

classes will resume in august. everyone will be required to wear face masks and practice social distancing. classes and finals will wrap up by thanksgiving to minimize the threat of coronavirus as flu season begins. almost all in-person classes will be offered online. voters in ferguson, missouri, has elected ella jones as the first black mayor. she will also be the first woman to lead the st. louis subbrb. historic victory comes six years after the deadly police shooting of michael brown. the shooting thrust ferguson into the spotlight over race of policing. they, of course, remain the focus of the protests following the death of george floyd in minneapolis last week. a controversial republican lawmaker is out of office. congressman steve king of iowa has lost his primary race. now, this is a really huge upset for king who served nine terms.

he has a history of controversy. his own party stripped him after comments he made to the "new york times" about white supr supremacy. rhonda mcdaniel tweeted early this morning saying king's white supremacist rhetoric is totally inconsuistent with the republicn party. she said she's glad iowa republicans rejected him at the ballot. companies are reaching out to their employees during this difficult time. this morning on "gma" we're hearing from a ceo of tapestry that owns designer brands like coach and kate spade and also one of four, four african-american ceos with a fortune 500 company. he is encouraging other corporate leaders to be vulnerable and talk openly with employees about what is going on. >> we can fix our broken windows and we can replace our handbags.

only been up for about 45 minutes or so. by the afternoon hours, we'll have low to mid 70s along the coast to 80 in san francisco and record 89 in oakland and look at 96 at san jose and 100 in morgan hill and mid to upper 90s in the north bay valleys and record high and 102 in concord. that is where it will be hottest today. dramatic changes coming up. 30 degrees cooler this weekend and slight chance of wet weather i'll have that. let's get back to kumasi for the news. developing news in san jose this morning where an investigation is under way into a shooting involving a police officer. it happened just after 9:30 last night in the area of north 8th street and mission street. which is about eight blocks away from police headquarters. this happened not too far from where officers were trying to disperse a crowd protesting the police killing of george floyd. there's no word on the condition of the person who was shot. the city is still under an 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. curfew. vallejo's police chief is

expected to provide an update today on an officer-involved shooting that took place after a looting at walgreens. abc7 news confirmed that the shooting at the store on redwood street was deadly. abc7 news i-team reporter melody woodrow spoke with the family. we are not releasing the victim's name until the family members are able to identify their body. many bay area cities still under curfew and having an impact on local businesses that are still recovering from the shelter-in-place orders. amy follyhold with more on how the businesses in the east bay are affected by this. amy? >> this is ironic, kumasi. today in contra costa county the health orders easing up just a bit. it will allow customers to go inside stores to shop. they've been waiting for this green light, the stores have. but look at them. they're boarded up. you can't go inside. they're boarded up because they're trying to prevent

looting. the shelter-in-place order because of the pandemic, as you know, has been a real blow to restaurants and retailers. now, the sidewalk pickup and food delivery helped a bit. but then the curfew was issued. and walnut creek's curfew started at 6:00. that canceled out the ability for restaurants to offer dinner service. all so bad one restaurant owner we talked to couldn't help but just laugh. >> the only saving light is this, the protests have shiftedd the stress of the covid-19 fears into, you know, new fears. i don't know if new fears are better, but they're different. >> now, walnut creek's curfew has changed to 8:00 p.m. that is now the curfew in the entire county here in contra costa to prevent the looting and vandalism that is happening at night. hopefully that will at least help them a little bit.

they will be able to offer dinner service. what is interesting today to watch and see if these boards come down, if retailers open their doors and let customers come in or if they stay boarded up to try and protect their businesses from possible looting and vandalism. reporting live in walnut creek, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you, amy. another protest is planned today in oakland over the death of george floyd. a protest last night remained peaceful and police say no reports of looting or violence. sky7 followed along as a large group of peaceful heaknd hall and they even practiced social distancing. we saw dozens of people kneeling outside. they dispersed as the city's 8:00 p.m. curfew approached. police say they made no arrests or citations unlike previous nights. we are going to speak with oakland mayor libby schaaf about the ongoing protests when she appears on "midday live today" and questions about the city's

curfew and how she plans on addressing the protesters' concerns. "midday live" begins right after "the view." take you to the protest and the protest came to a peaceful end in redwood city. the group rallied outside city hall for an hour before marching. the number of protesters dwindled and they made it close to highway 101. police officer formed the line and blocked them from getting on the freeway. the minnesota launched a probe into the minneapolis police department after george floyd's death. jobina fortson is at the live desk with more. jobina? >> thank you, kumasi. look at ten years worth of policies and procedures at the minneapolis police department. it will determine whether officers engaged in colo thvernor the probe yesterday. the human rights commissioner leader the investigation says this will not hold people criminally liable, but it will help create the systemic change that protesters seen here

kneeling at floyd's death site have been calling for. the police chief released a statement last night admitting there is work to be done. as for the police officers involved in george floyd's death, officer derek chauvin was fired and also charged with murder and manslaughter and the three other officers involved have been fired. i will send it back to you, reggie. >> thank you, jobina. george floyd's 6-year-old daughter is talking about her dad publicly for the first time. abc eva spoke to gianna and gianna's mom. >> what do you want people to know? >> kind of that i miss him. >> gianna's mother roxie washington said floyd loved his daughter and he was always a great dad. >> how did you explain what happened to your daughter? >>

100s from palm springs at 111 to greater than 100 degrees and monterey and tahoe today. we'll look at our record-setting heat it's possible today. let's head over to jobina with a live desk update. this just in at the live desk. police are investigating a quadruple stabbing at a 7-eleven. a group of people got into a fight at the convenience store on sixth and san salvador streets. investigators found two men with stab wounds and one died and the other in the hospital. two other men were stabbed and drove them selves to the hospital and so far this morning no arrests have been made in this case. reggie? >> jobina, thank you. the fta and ntsb is investigating a helicopter crash that killed three pg&e contractors. this happened around 1:00

yesterday afternoon near lyon road and soda springs road. officials say the helicopter hit a power line. the crash sparked a seven-acre fire and forced cal fire crews into an area of back country with long grass and steep hills and power went out to 38,000 people. neighbors saw the smoke and they feared that fire could spread. >> i was concerned because of the big fire roaring over the hill a couple years ago and it got pretty close to us. i was like, oh, boy, it is hot out today. we will have a repeat of that? it wasn't the case. sad for them that it was a crash. >> got even scarier when one of the rerus r s rolled over as crews raced to get to the flames. three firefighters received minor injuries. in contra costa county investigators are trying to determine the fire in the hills
