>> you can see this, the drivers honking in support. the students chanting george floyd's name and they called on other young people to do more to fight racism and injustice. >> there's a lot of support from plate and make it better. >> students say they wanted to rally close to home so people in their neighborhood could hear their message directly. san jose's police chief is defending his police department's response he says there were a that were present that started a week ago today. police have come under fire for using tear gas and rubber foam baton rounds during the protests. yesterday eddie garcia provided

a snippet of what officers faced on the front lines. >> bottles of urine being thrown at officers. vehicles at high rates of speed threatening or attempting to strike them before fleaing and multiple officers were struck on their person, helmet, face shields with various objects. >> local social justice organizations say that the actions by some of the officers against peaceful protestors were inappropriate. they say that there should be accoty officers involved. chief garcia is encouraging the community to report instances of wrong doing and he says that all the complaints will be investigated. they are suspended as questions swirl about their kuhn detect during a protest honoring george floyd. the police department is investigating after video that appears to show two officers pushing an elderly man to the ground. and this video is hard to watch.

>> so you can see the officers come up to this 75-year-old man and seconds later, he's down and to hit his head on the ground. and you can see maybe not from this angle but the other side that there was blood coming from his ear. the officers take a look at him and they kept on walking and this is the part, in a press release buffalo pd said last night, that the man tripped and fell and that is despite this video that we're all seeing that clearly shows he was shoved. he had to be taken to the hospital. he had a head injury of course. he's in serious season and now those two officers are suspended without pay and all of this happened just hours after a memorial for george floyd in minneapolis. >> it's time for us to stand up in george's name and say get your knee off our necks. >> now, this morning we're also

learning that two of the former police officers charged in floyd's death turned on derrick chauvin who is the one that knelt on his neck. they say that they tried to stop him saying that he shouldn't do this or they shouldn't do this and asking chauvin repeatedly to roll him over. both of the officers were rookies. they were on the job for less than a week, chauvin though a 19 year veteran. let's talk about curfews. most of them have been lifted around the bay area but in a few cities they're still in effect. fremont's mayor says it will lift at 5:00 this morning here and vallejo and walnut creek and concord are still saying people stay inside from 8:00 p.m. 5:00 a.m. go to abc 7 news.com to find out

hi, everybody and welcome to friday morning. let's take a look at what's going on with your weather and we're going to start with temperatures down in the south end when we're in the mid 50s to around 60. very comfortable there and look at that. 50s just about everywhere even a 64 right now and we'll stay in san jose and especially from the golden gate bridge and the bay bridge north through the delta. look at the temperatures on the peninsula.

the upper 60s for the better part of the afternoon hours. the low 70s briefly for our highs and for the east bay upper 60s and low 70s. the last stop will be san francisco where temperatures will be pretty close to average in the mid 60s with some of our fastest breezes. we'll take a look at our chance of rape and a cool weekend coming up in the acuweather 7-day forecast. >> thank you, mike. >> identify specific funding needs in the upcoming budget. the mayor says black people face worse economic and health challenges. increases to police staffing and foot patrols. now coronavirus is still a threat. there's 15,000 cases in the 14 counts that make up the bay area and surrounding area and you can

here's the area of low pressure and it's on the move and making its way toward us. look what it does for the fog. it goes away rather rapidly but as we head from 3:00 on the breezes kick in and the yellows and oranges that are 70s and 80s they're wiped off the map. by 7:00, all of us back in the 50s and 60s. so you may need a coat if you head out this evening. we'll talk about low to upper 70s in the south bay. 66 to 72 on the peninsula. now along the coast will be in the upper 50s to mid 60s in downtown, south san francisco and mid to upper 70s through the north bay. a little bit warmer like santa rosa and we'll have low 80s there. along the east bay we have mid 60s to low 70s from 66 in richmond and 72 in freemont and look at this inland. probably the air conditioner today. 74 in san ramon to 82 in

if you got the air conditioner on turn it off, open the windows and enjoy. >> thank you. well happening today santa clara will raise the lgbtq flag all in honor of pride month. the mayor will lead the ceremony at 10:00 a.m. because of coronavirus the public isn't invited like in years past but the mayor says that's not stopping them from honoring lgbtq history. also today san francisco is hosting a virtual pride month

kick off. the mayor will join senator and city officials for pride 50. pride at home. the city is pivoting to an online celebration because of coronavirus. today's kick off event will feature live performances and the lesbian gay freedom band and there will also be a town hall community type of conversation including one called pride in defense of black bodies. all of this starts at noon on the san francisco pride facebook page. well, there is a new edition to fr that somebody put a collin kaepernick jersey on the iconic pole at the summit. sky 7 flew over 2000 foot tall mountain yesterday. kaepernick we all remember took a knee during the national anthem in 2016 to silently protest police brutality and racism. he hasn't played in the nfl

since then. we have seen demonstrators and police officers take a knee over the death of george floyd. >> well, proper health practices are part of restoring the economy with abc 7's commitment to building a better bay area. 8,000 hotels around the world send discarded soap to clean the world a non-profit that reprocesses the scraps into new bars of soap. recycling centers in the u.s. and asia and then distribute them to the victims of natural disasters and the homeless and especially now. and each bar can be used an estimated 180 times. >> it's hundreds of millions of preventive times that we are helping those in at risk populations. >> here's the issue though. it's fallen by as much as 98%

because of the economic downturn. families can help by assembling the soap and kits to be donated locally to food pantries. >> jumped. >> oh my gosh, a surprise for sheriffs deputies, they found a bear trapped inside this vehicle. this was earlier this week in the sierra foothills community of colfax. deputies used a round to break the window to allow the bear to safely get out but the damage was already done. the inside of the suv as you can see, trashed. authorities say this is just another reminder to never leave any food or wrappers inside of a vehicle. this happened a week after the sheriff's department released this video of another >> our future with that one.
