90 acres and 20% more businesses are reopening. santa clara county will allow outdoor dining to resume today. >> videos appear to show them shoving and elderly man to the ground during the protest. the police released a statement saying he tripped and fell. now he's in the hospital with a head injury. >> a member for the u.s. labor department will release the may jobs report in 15 minutes. the unemployment rate has increased to around 20%. that's the highest since the great depression. >> look at those temperatures tumble dramatic. especially in the east bay. valleys up to 25 degrees cooler than yesterday. i'll let you know how long this lasts coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast.

>> so far at least we're going to take a live look right now. across westbound. number seven san francisco is hosting a virtual pride event. it will feature the gay men's chor and lesbian and gay freedom band. it kicks off at noon. as more counts lift shelter in place restrictions and start to reopen, if you do go out, doctors say that it's important to make sure that you're careful. >> it's not gone. we're lulled into a false sense of security because we flattened the curve but we didn't get rid of it. >> she says covid-19 is still out there and you need to be cautious. even if your friends or family

aren't. >> we're still infectious in the bay area and we'll see a surge if we're not careful. >> we continue to see new covid-19 cases in every county but there's areas of concern. in alameda county new case numbers increased over the past few weeks and hospitalizations have increased over the past two weeks. there were 27 new cases on wednesday. that's the second highest single day rise in two weeks. there were just five new cases wednesday and health officials there are saying there's been a rapid increase of covid-19 cases in low income communities. in san mateo there were just 17 cases wednesday. the lowest single day rise since may 17th with the lowest number of tests in more than two weeks were taken on that social distancing, hand washing and -- >> if i had to pick one simple

be set intentionally. they're burning within five miles of each other in the southern part of the city. abc 7 news reporter is live. >> good morning, right now we know at last check the fire was only about 20% contained but had been 90 acres. what we could see from our vantage point right there, look at that hill. moments ago we saw a number of cal fire firefighters get out of the truck. we also want to tell you that as you mentioned this appears to be the work of an arsonist. we know that fire investigators and police have arrested one person and detained another. this morning the people that live the santa teresa foothills are back in their homes and forced to evacuate when these fast moving fires started moving quickly last night. knocking down the flames and

dropping fire retardant and crews getting dry brush out of the way. keeping an eye on the hotspots and working to fully extinguish the flames but back here live this morning you can see what is left behind. this charred hillside as these firefighters work to fully extinguish the fires. we're working on how much of the blazes are still out there this morning. but the last check almost 20% contained. we're also hearing the investigators might be looking to speak to at least one additional person about how this all started. for now, reported live in south san jose this morning, i'm julian glover. abc 7 news. >> thank you. this morning, two buffalo police officers are suspended as questions are swirling about their conduct during a protest honoring george floyd.

>> it really is. it's the buffalo police department investigating after a video appears to show two officers pushing a man in his 70s to the ground and i do want to warn you before we pull this up that the video may be hard to watch for some. so here it is right now. we're going to show you. you can see the officers come right up to the 75-year-old man and seconds later he goes down appearing to hit his head on the ground. there's blood coming from his ear. the officers take a look at him and keep on walking and in a press release, buffalo pd said last night the man tripped and fell. hospitazed with a head lely injury and is now in serious condition. two officers are suspended without pay. all of this hours after a memorial for george floyd in minneapolis. >> it's time for us to stand up in george's name and say get

your knee off our necks. >> this morning, we're also learning two of the former police officers charged in floyd's death have turned on former officer derrick chauvin. the officer that knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes. they have been asking him repeatedly to roll floyd over. both of those are on the job for less than a week. chauvin is a 19 year veteran. >> thank you. happening today minneapolis city council members plan to vote on some of the first policing changes in the wake of george floyd's death. elected officials have been working to set new guidelines. they're expected to reveal what those could be later today. human rights officials are hoping to set a time line into whether the minneapolis police

department engaged in racial discrimination over the past decade. >> the people protest against racism continue around the bay area. hundreds of people demonstrated their solidarity but the nationwide rally over the killing of george floyd. 200 people gather peacefully. several dozen people took part in a rally at city hall and then they marched to police headquaters and in san jose, willow glenn high school students held a rally in their neighborhood. >> so there they are. you can see lots of drivers were honking in support. students chanted george floyd's name. they fight racism and injustice. >> a lot of support for america could not be the best place right now.

our generation could step up to the plate and make it better hopefully. >> it's good to say they wanted to rally close to home so that people in their neighborhood could hear their message directly. >> defending his police departments actions and took the response to some of the measures they used because of violence breaking out due to the protests over the death of george floyd. so the chief said there are agitators present at otherwise peaceful rallies that began one week ago yesterday as the police chief provided a snippet of what officers faced on the front lines. >> there's bottles of urine being thrown at police officers and they were struck on their person, helmet and face shield with various objects.

are making to the black community. time now is 5:38 and we're checking in with mike for our forecast. >> hi, everybody. welcome to friday. let's talk about the big change that you're going to feel outside even this morning where temperatures are up to 10 degrees cooler. look at the mid to upper 50s and even those are more comfortable than the last couple of days. 64. let's take a look at our other neighborhoods. santa rosa to 60s in san jose. there are some challenges weather wise. it's very breezy. and the richmond bridge and those areas are breezy again this afternoon. so also our big commute and driving, that's our biggest challenge. let's talk about what's going on as far as our temperature and look at this, the peninsula stuck in the upper 60s for the better part of today with a mixture of clouds and sunshine and trying to squeak out 70 and

then you can see a few clouds coming in and the breezes returning with earnest during the evening hours down to 8:00, down to 61 degrees and for san francisco, mid 60s this afternoon and breezy. just about the entire day. we'll see a little more high clouds this afternoon than the low clouds this how is it going? >> pretty well this morning. since the curfew is being lifted i wanted to also make a note that they did say they are now going to resume regular service for the evening rides that are wrapping up earlier because of the curfew. and affected immediately. and we're going to take live look outside right now.

>> breaking news at the live desk. surprisingly good economic news during the coronavirus pandemic. the u.s. labor department released the jobless report a few minutes ago and this is what we are seeing. so the unemployment rate for may dropped to 13.3% down from 14.7%. 2.5 million jobs added in the country last month. a sign that the country is reopening. this is a vast improvement that saw $20 million jobs
