>> announcer: building a better bay area for a safe and secure future. this is abc7 news. federal investigators confirm a possible link between the ambush-style killing of a sheriff's deputy and the killing of a federal officer in oakland. good evening, and thank you for joining us. i'm dion lim. >> i'm eric thomas. we begin with new details on the shooting death of a santa cruz county sheriff's deputy. investigators say steven carrillo ambushed and kill the deputy yesterday in ben lomond and wounded another deputy and a chp officer. >> deputies first responded to the scene after getting a call about a suspicious white van. the caller reported seeing guns and bomb-making materials inside the van. investigators are also looking for a white van connected to the shooting death of federal security officer pat underwood in oakland. sergeant damon gutzwiller died in yesterday's shooting. a vigil was held for him today. j.r. stone has that report from

very active on several fronts, including across the country. i have confirmed that 32-year-old steven a carrillo is an active duty military policeman at travis air force base in fairfield. he may have been involved in the shooting may 29th that killed a security officer at the oakland federal building. a white van was involved in both incidents. they are researching his cell phone tower pings and the atf is actively involved. they have recovered a spent bullet casing at the scene in ben lomond. i've been speaking to steven carrillo's friends and former colleagues, former airmen. at police excessive force. you can see that on the social media. i'll have that part of the story coming up on abc7 news at 6:00.

would be alive, angela, and sean could be alive. >> this man was killed at a walgreens parking lot june 2nd. officers were responding to looting call. the officer who fired the shot was an 18-year law enforcement veteran. the police chief was invited to the rally but did not attend. >> we know we have hurting people in the community. we have been marching against police violence for years. >> away from the marches, the issue of police reform reached the city as well. on friday california's attorney general making this announcement. >> the city of vallejo and its police department will now undergo an expansive review, including looking at priss reforms and ways to increase public trust. the city of vallejo also requested the attorney general's office to launch an independent criminal iit's the kind of prog leaders of this march is looking for. >> we have to demand change and transformation in our city, state, and nation. >> kris reyes for abc7 news.

oakland police and the chp are investigating a shooting that left a man dead and put a woman in the hospital. officers say they were conducting a criminal investigation around 10:54 last night when they opened fire, killing the driver on cherry street. a female passenger was also hit. >> it is not clear why officers began shooting. a woman in the car was taken to the hospital and is reported in stable condition. the officers were not hurt. the minneapolis city council this afternoon voted to dismantle the city's police department. nine members voted to move ahead with that plan and pledged to create a new system ofubc the comes in response to the death of george floyd during an arrest by four officers who have since been fired and charged. activists have called for drastic changes to the city's police department, accusing it of racism. those same calls for defund and go reforming police agencies are

now being heard across american cities. san francisco police say they will conduct a review of a january arrest in hunter's point where an officer was recorded using a hold similar to the one that led to george floyd's death. the department today released this body cam video in the incident. the agency also said it was going to review the technique to determine whether it needs to be changed or updated. police say the suspect being taken into custody here made criminal threats to a neighbor and resisted an officer. house and senate democrats are expected to unveil a sweeping package of police reforms tomorrow in response to the death of george floyd. it's called the justice in policing act of 2020 and would limit some immunity pretexts created national police misconduct register, ban choke holds, restrict the transfer of military-grade equipment to police departments, and make lynching a federal crime. future law enforcement funding would be tied to police department compliance in these areas. demonstrators across the bay area are joining forces and

developing news from solano county where evacuations have been lifted for residents who were chased out of their homes by a wildfire. the quail fire is burning north of vacaville and south of winters. more than 1,800 acres have burned. the fire is 40% contained now. at least three structures have burned. some of them are homes. people who were under mandatory evacuation orders are being let back in, but officials are checking i.d.s at road blocks. a check of the weather now. frances dinglasan in for drew this weekend. hey, frances. >> we're dealing with blustery conditions. you'll notice we have lots of blue skies around the bay area.

winds reaching 4340 miles per hour. right now in san francisco, that's what they are. all around the bay we see 20 to 30-mile-per-hour winds. so it has been another breezy day, not quite as windy as yesterday. but you can see those trees, the palm trees whipping around because of the winds and the flags blowing as well in san francisco on the em bar san jose, 68. even 69 in gilroy. if you're headed to santa cruz, the beach, it's been a pretty nice day there, 76 right now. and this week it's going to warm-up even more. we're talking mid-80s by wednesday. here's a look at temperatures in santa rosa, petaluma, fairfield, concord, all in the low 70s. now, with all this wind, we're still dealing with strong winds in solano and yolo county where we have a red flag warning in effect tonight from 11:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. tomorrow.

this is where the quail fire is, of course. gusts up to 30 miles per hour, so that's going to make it difficult. and then daytime humidity will drop to 13%, which means fires can realistart new ones and exi ones can spread very easily. wind still gusty along the coast. you can see point reyes at 42 miles an hour. 32 miles an hour in half moon bay and also in san francisco. still breezy over 20 miles an hour. the winds will die on you overnight to tomorrow. so finally a little bit of calm conditions in the morning. throughout the day, not too bad, but it does pick up again in the evening all along the coast. you see point reyes still very windy there. now, overnight lows will be dropping into the mid-40s for some of the valleys like santa rosa because we have clear skies as well as morgan hill. low 50s around the bay. we'll be clear tonight. tomorrow, though, with that extra sunshine and weaker

onshore flow, temperatures will be climbing. lots of 70s around the bay. 78 in fremont. san jose warming up into the 80s. mid-80s in some of our warmest spots. san francisco hitting 71. notice at the beaches near 70. that's going to change over the next few days. we'll see the warm-up build through tuesday into wednesday. so tuesday we'll see 90s come into the forecast for the inland areas. wednesday is likely to be the warmest day. thursday, things start to turn around but still quite warm inland. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. lighter winds tomorrow. enjoy plenty of sunshine. you'll need the sunscreen as temperatures climb up every day into wednesday. the cooling begins and some of the clouds return as a trough moves in. temperatures will start to ramp back down into next weekend and we'll be closer to normal. >> frances, thank you very much. take a look at this.

different perspectives on race. quinn's family says they experienced race-related trauma in the past which made him fearful of protests, but he wanted to support carrier on the bridge. >> i trusted it was going to be safe and i also had that trust because i reached into my pocket and i held onto that ring with everything in me to get the strength. it was a powerful moment for me in that regard as well. >> i love this duo. the pair says they don't want their proposal to overshadow the greater message of the protests, but they hope it serves as an inspiration for others to continue the conversation about race. so a big congratulations to you both. in philadelphia a couple went even further and decided to celebrate their wedding yesterday ta proteat a protest george floyd. >> black lives matter! black lives matter! >> the couple stepped out of a hotel in wedding attire and were greeted by a cheering crowd.
