a former minneapolis police officer charged in george floyd's death is due in court today. derek chauvin faces second degree murder charges. this is his first court appearance, his charges were upgraded last week. and three other officers involved somewhere xwaen charha aiding and abetting. and this morning the mayor of minneapolis made med lines for disagreeing with the city council's announcement to end the city's police responsementlr disagreeing with the city council's announcement to end the city's police responsement. and minneapolis mayor jacob frey spoke on "good morning america" and at this point many people have seen this viral video of protestors confronting the mayor at the site where gho george floyd died saturday. they canned him to answer yes or no to the question do you support the full abolition of

the police department which is what the city council mass promis has promised to do. he said no and explained his answer. >> let me be clear, i am for massive structural and transformational reform to an entire system that has not for generations worked for black and brown people. we have failed them. and we need to entirely reshape the system. we need a full-on cultural shift in our minneapolis police department and departments throughout the country. am i for entirely abolishing the police department, no, i'm not. >> the mayor says that he will work with city council members to determine what they mean by, quote, dismantling the police department. you can watch that full interview coming up on 7:00 right here after abc 7 mornings. san jose mayor is expected to announce a budget proposal today that would include funding for police reform. although he says he has no plans to defund the police department.

880, but officers blocked them. and you may have seen this, there is new art just a few blocks from that protest. artists painted black lives matter in bold yellow letters on 15th street. the art stretches for three blocks. and similar murals of course were painted on friday in washington, d.c. right in front of the white house. and down in los angeles, an estimated 20,000 people packed hollywood boulevard for this "black lives matter" protest. you have to check out this video, celebrities joined in. the city has had peaceful protests for several days now prompting the national guard to withdraw yesterday. this morning there is a growing concern about the only drug known to help treat covid-19. why we could run out of it by the end of the month. also ahead, stopping the spread of coronavirus among travelers. the new restrictions in fenlgt today. are and check out this gorgeous morning at pier 15.

sunshine, breezy and warmer today, we have our warmest and calmest weather tomorrow and wednesday. and a roller coaster of high temperatures this week. with another warming trend beginning today. here is a look at your fog forecast, you can see just a little bit of fog along the peninsula coast possible as we head toward lunch, but notice it quickly goes away as the breezes pick up again this afternoon. and that means the closer you are, the cooler you will be in the south bay. so 79 at san jose to 84 in morgan hill. on the peninsula, 72 to 78 is our range there. mid to upper 60s along the coast even with the sunshine. breeze is keeping it kind of a blustery day. we'll try to crack 70 in downtown san francisco. low to mid 80s up through the north bay valleys. coastline, mid to upper 60s. along the east bay shore, mid to upper 70s. that is about 8 to 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. and inland east bay neighborhoods, low to upper 80s. as far as our temperatures

derek chauvin faces a second degree murder charge which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison. his charges were upgraded last week and his initial charges of third-degree murder and second degree man slaughter remain. it has been two weeks and now we're starting to see changes to policing policies. the minneapolis city council says that it plans to dismantle its police department and divert funding to a new community based public safety system. today house democrats are expected to unveil new legislation for police reform, it will impose new conditions on funding law enforcement and make it easier to prosecute police officers and civil court for misconduct. joe biden will meet with george floyd's family. he will travel to houston to personally offer his con dolg lenses. the "new york times" reports that biden will not attend the funeral tomorrow because he
