new protests and anguish over another deadly police shooting. this one in the east bay. dozens of people gathered. this is about an hour ago for a vigil for a man who was killed by the chp saturday night. good evening thanks for joining us. >> the story has been developing since that 23-year-old was shot multiple times. tonight demonstrators dmapding the officers fired and the family in mourning. >> reporter: her younger stepbrother agreed to speak to us. >> why not try other methods of getting him out of the car, if he was such a danger, right, that they had to shoot him 40 dimes. >> 23-year-old eric delgado shot and killed saturday night a block from his mother's house. family members confirm to abc7 news delgado's pregnant

girlfriend was a passenger in the vehicle. >> she got shot in the stomach and in the hand. in and out of a coma. >> reporter: according to the oakland police department the california highway patrol was conducting criminal investigation in the neighborhood. the vehicle is believed to be one of seventy-four vehicles stolen from a san leandro dealership. >> shots fired at -- >> reporter: community members organize ad rally to demonstrate justice and an end to police brutality. >> what happened to eric was no less than a public execution. >> the keys were still in the ignition. so once they started shooting at him, i guess his foot ended up on the accelerator. >> reporter: the oakland police department has not released the names of the chp officers involved in this shooting. >> i want him to be remembered as a good person. >> reporter: this shooting is now under investigation by the oakland police department. the alameda county district attorney's office as well as the

chp investigation unit. an air force sergeant accused of killing this man damon gutzwiller in what investigators called an ambush. live with the latest on developing news, chris t sheriff gave up an update on this case today. >> reporter: that's right larry. the suspect will be arraigned friday afternoon on multiple charges, including first-degree murder. live here at the sheriff's office in santa cruz county. you can see the makeshift memorial set up for the fallen sheriff's deputy. this community still in absolute shock over the events which happened over the weekend. in the san lorenzo valley signs of gratitude and heart ache lined this narrow street where sergeant damon gutzwiller lost his life after officials say he and his partner were ambushed with gunfire and improvised explosive devices while replying

to a 911 call sunday afternoon. >> anyone who saws something, who knows something, who may have been a victim of this guy to contact the district attorney's tip line. >> reporter: the suspect, steven carrillo is an active duty u.s. air force sergeant based in fairfield and had special training as a team leader on a military police unit. >> he's an angry man intent on bringing harm to police officers. he murdered sergeant gutzwiller. he injured another deputy and an another police officer. and he's going to be held accountable. >> reporter: today sheriff jim hart praised the heroic actions of a local resident who tackled the suspect during an attempted carjacking as he tried to flee the area. the fbi which was brought in to help the sheriff's office with the investigation is now looking into a possible link between the ambush and the fatal shooting last night of a federal officer

>> after cell phone video surfaced showing an unarmed black man handcuffed by police after reports that he was dancing in the street. the story broke last week and tonight learning new details criticizing the alameda police department for not telling the whole story. >> i spoke with vice there. john knox white who told me he was pretty appalled to see that body camera footage released on friday. but he was even more disappointed that police weren't fully transparent about what initially happened. this is body cam footage of five alameda police officers handcuffing a 44-year-old martial artist who says he was exercises in front of his home. >> of course. i'm dancing in the street. >> they were trying to break me. they were trying to physically break my body. physically.

antioch this afternoon. people gathered at antioch city park at 10th and a streets and later marched to the police station. today a lifelong bay area activist and former mayor is praising the leadership of students in many of these events. crediting high school and college students for rallying public opinion in ways her generation didn't. david louie is live with her thought on how the moment has changed. david. >> and change it has. if for one thing her generation grew up without social media and vices to mobilize people quick. an important dividend from observing martin looung's birthday and sharing his message. many were organized and led by young people.

>> this group of youngsters is changing the world. and it is not happening just in san mateo. >> reporter: help from her great niece and nephew in the kitchen gave hear chance to pull out some old albums showing her family's support of the naacp and support of social justice. despite her generation's activism claire mack's the spirit of martin luther king has had an impact on today's young people. >> they know what january 15th is all about. they celebrate martin luther king and they have been doing this 20, 30 years. they are the ones in high school and they are believing this country is not what it is. they are not believing. >> reporter: while some of the youngest marchers are years from voting mack sees it as a catalyst to getting their elders to engage and initiate reforms. >> they are giving their mothers and fathers and aunts and uncles the incentive. they are showing initiative that the adults haven't shown in this country.

but the adults are out there marching also. >> reporter: claire mack remembers not being allowed to be a high school cheerleader. some doors were closed as she grew up in san mateo. however hopeful that in the weeks and months ahead young people what her doing today will lead to a new era. firefighters in oakland put out a fire that damaged a building housing restaurants and shops. the fire on park boulevard near wellington street started before 3:00 this afternoon. firefighters had to rescue two workers from from the roof. several neighbors gathered to watch heavy smoke pour from the buildi.eses under investigation. crews made quick work of this in san jose. there is no word yet on the cause of that one either. nail salon owners, they are frustrated and fed up. they say the governor was wrong when he claimed the coronavirus outbreak first spread at a salon
