they see fit. campgrounds and outdoor recreation facilities, entertainment centers like movie theater, bowling alley, mini golf, summer camps can begin with state approval, the state is also allowing hotels to welcome back tourists and not just essential workers. again, it is up to individual counties to determine whether these things can happen. let's talk about a county that is about to reopen more things because the economy and reopening businesses something we're focuse on here in our effort to build a better bay area. marin county in the spotlight as they reopen indoor retail. amy hollyfield is joining us li live. >> reporter: good morning. starting today, you can go inside this car dealership and sho for shop for a characterization one car, one of many that are reopening. retail stores can welcome customers inside.

and before today, only essential businesses could open their doors. marin will also allow indoor cleaning services, this is all happening though as the number of cases of coronavirus in the county are going up. they think that could be because of people gathering over memorial day weekend, they are also wondering if there will be more cases because of the "black lives matter" protests. and they are asking people to get tested so that they can see what they are dealing with. >> this weekend i saw many packed cars with folks probably from different households not wearing face coverings. we are encouraging anyone who participated in one of this weekend's demonstrations or ceremonies, and who were unable to stay at least 6 feet apart, to get tested next week for covid-19. >> reporter: stores still have to take precautions starting today as they allow people inside. they must require face coverings, limit the number of customers allowed inside, and of

mona kosar abdi. and mayor breed has unveiled her plan to reform the police department. it would end the use of police officers in non-criminal activities like disputes between neighbors, school discipline and mental health calls. instead unarmed professionals would respond. and it also calls for an end to the use of military style weapons. and it demands officials address police bias and strengthen accountability. senator kamala harris is talking about her views on defunding police departments. the former san francisco d.a. and state attorney general was part of a virtual town h h h nig night. >> for too long status quo thinking has been to believe that you create more safety by putting more police officers on the street. and that is just simply wrong. and so we need to -- it is long overdue that we reimagine how we achieve public safety in this country. and for me, that means

ceremony. new details about a criminal investigation into a san francisco sheriff's captain caught on video pushing a protestor. and the sheriff has opened his own investigation. we know that the officer seen in this video posted to twitter used his baton to shove two protesters from behind. and that is captain genre mere resident, john ramirez. the use of force took place on a day that the streets were filled with protesters. >> based on the information, there was a need for the use of force in that context so we don't think that it has risen to criminal behavior. >> and the sheriff would like more video of the incident. one of the personnel responded to the protests and mad bo s hay on. and dozens of people rallied

on the steps of the alameda police station. the gro ced and about police brutality and racism yesterday. and dozens of people joined a peaceful march in the bay view district. local high school students organized yesterday calling for defunding of the police department and providing more resources for black and brown communities. the group marched from the bay view opera house down 3rd street to the police station. and dr. martin luther king jr. was marching for civil rights more than 60 years ago. most of his written words are stored at stanford university at the king institute. and now a group of students say that the university is not doing enough to ensure its future. here is dan ashley. >> martin luther king's legacy is in part in my hands. railro >> reporter: coretta scott king gave her late husband's writings to produce a series of books and now 35 years later, a group of

stanford students is concerned that the king institute is underfunded. >> we said to the board it is a shame what is happening here, a shame that stanford hasn't prioritized funding the king institute. >> reporter: so they launched a fund raising campaign without the university's help. 16 stanford student body presidents and vice presidents have signed a letter of support. >> so i think all of us recognize how important our work is and we have been doing it now for 35 years. >> reporter: and as the country and the world watch the protests following the death of george floyd, there is a new awareness. >> really thankful that people much younger than myself recognize that this is a different moment. i was 19 when i went to the march on washington. there were 200,000 people there and i thought that was just amazing. but you when i realized that that event took months of planning by major civil rights organizations, all the major

let's talk about what is going on weather-wise, let's take a look in san jose, we're at 60 degrees right now and you can see mostly cloudy conditions. we'll have cool breezes today. 60s and 70s for highs with increasing sunshine late this afternoon. same for tomorrow and kaumg cald warmer sunday. and then several afternoons of a summer spread coming at you. we'll have a couple of steady days of weather. here is an area of low pressure out mode of the white, that is the humidity, that is a slight chance of a shower. and then the dry air will bring us the increasing sunshine, the orange you see there. but the winds, they keep us in the 50s along the coast. mid to upper 60s san francisco, richmond, oakland, pretty much low to mid-70s elsewhere until you get to gilroy, antioch and fairfield, 78 for the world spots. tonight lows look for 40s in the

dooe deep valleys, low to mid if i was either whelsewhere. and look at the winds pick up this afternoon. 15 to 25 miles per hour. so if you are thinking about eating outside this evening, try to find a place sheltered from that breeze. tomorrow the winds won't be nearly as fast around 10 to 20 miles per hour, but they are still coming dreblgtsly off the ocean keeping us in the 50s there, 60s and 70s for our brey an bay and inland neighborhoods. and nearly 10 degrees away from the ocean and then 60s at the coast, upper 70s to low 80s around the bay. upper 80s to low 90s monday through thursday. and a big boost, a company that has seen an unprecedented surnlgts in surge in demand. and yosemite is back oeg

we're seeing some radar returns. and most of those will rotate to our north. and unfortunately, our chance of wet weather as we talked about yesterday, nolts really thet re. future radar is showing clouds and then the increase in sunshine this afternoon. as we head overnight, the clouds will increase through tomorrow morning and then a slight chance of some wet weather as we head into the afternoon and evening hours across the north bay and then sunday you can see the increasing sunshine and the breezes that will bring in drier and warmer air. so any chance of wet weather is just a stray shower, and you can see they mainly fall to our north and off to our east up in the mountains where there could even be some snow. but it would be way up around 10,000 1rks 10,000, 11,000 feet. and another corporation is making june teteenth an officia company holiday, nike's ceo made the announcement in a letter to employees.

aggressive this afternoon and evening. so be careful if you are out especially in bodies of water or near that where there are no trees to slow the winds down. and the bay area is taking another big step into reopening today. restaurants, bars, gyms and hotels are opening for the first time in almost three months, but not everywhere just yet. here is the breakdown. in sonoma county, this is the first weekend that wineries can reopen their tasting rooms. in san francisco, restaurants will be open for outdoor dining. and in marin county, indoor retail sales starting today. and it is back to business in santa cruz county too. hotels there will reopen today which is expected to bring a boost to the economy which is one of the the areas that we are focused on as we work to build a better bay area. julian glover is live with more on this. >> good morning. we're focused on the economy and

the folks in sabsanta cruz coun certainly are. for many, it will back to business. and the lifted hotel restrictions will hopefully send a rush of tourists back to the boardwalk. they can start taking reservations as of today. and a general manager we spoke to say that they are only expecting a third of full occupancy and they don't expect to return to fulg capacity until next summer. on a normal june weekend, they would be sold out. take it from the locals. >> this place would be packed right now. it would be standing room only on the sidewalks. there would be a line to get into the movie theater. uk in town for a wedding, so apparently some folks are traveling. while in town, they can go to the movie theaters, family entertainment centers, museums, galleries, aquariums, those are all open now.

gyms and fitness centers, swimming pools, camp grounds and rv parks, tasting rooms, pubs, all of that getting the green light to reopen today in santa cruz county. now, there is a catch though. with the health order in santa cruz county, the partial beach close sures, that has been extended through july 6. so the beach still closed from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00. and you can only on that go to swim, paddle board or kayak at the beach. but finally some things beginning to reopen there in santa cruz. reporting live this morning on, julian glover, abc 7 news. and san francisco is in the process of moving more homeless people from the tenderloin into hotels. yesterday the superintendevisord to get more people off the streets. people in the tenderloin told is the examiner that they have not

seen much of a difference. as we move deeper into reopening, it can get confusing to know what is allowed to open and where. we have a full guide of restrictions where you live on our website, abc7news.com/covid help. and you will also find a list of resources. evidence is being collected after an ambush on law enforcement. officers shot and killed a man who they say shot four law enforcement officers over two days. investigators say it began when the suspect shot an officer who was searching a river bed yesterday. and then more police got there and the suspect opened fire hitting two more officers. the other officers eventually killed that suspect who is identified as mason lyra. investigators say lyra fired shots at a police station on wednesday injuring a sheriff deputy. and he also killed a homeless man. and they say while the attack on the police station was planned, it does not appear to be

connected to the recent attacks on law enforcement in oakland or santa cruz county. >> we have no indication at this point that they are connected. we do know that our suspect did spend time in the santa cruz area, but we have no indication that there was a connection. >> the three injured officers, they are expected to recover. and the sheriff's office says that the deputy injured on wednesday is expected to be okay. the man charged with a deaddead deadly ambush attack faces arraignment today. steven carrillo opened fire and lobbedbed bombs at deputies on saturday. he faces 19 fellow charges including murder. and the iteam confirms that he is linked to the killing of a federal officer in oakland. sources say that white van was s llnklanin the ben lomond

neighborhoods? mid to upper 50s. brentwood 62. let's take a look at what is going on with your commute and not bad right now, the low clouds and fog from yesterday not really there except for possibly right along the coast. but faster breezes especially during the afternoon and evening commute across all of our bridges. and it will make it really chopity on the bchop i chap choppy on the bay. and peninsula, 68 at 2:00. and then increasing sunshine but only 60 at 8:00. let's take a look at the east bay where pretty of the same thing, 61 at 8:00, noon 67. beal t we'll try to get near 70 and then the breezes kick in around 4:00 and that will bring us sunshine but temperatures drop down to 61 by 8:00. and in san francisco, look at this, 58 at8:00, low 60s through the afternoon hours with the fastest breezes starting at 2:00 and continuing all the way into theven we drop

down to 59. so definitely some jacket weather. and we'll take a look at how long this lasts before summer heat returns to the forecast. but first the morning commute. good morning, everyone. things have been looking really great since about 5:00 a.m. on our roads. so we will check in with a live look showing you the san mateo bridge and the traffic there. pretty smooth. you can see that it is a bit slow for people making their way toward the peninsula and that is what we expect as more people begin to return to work. so again, if you are just now starting to leave the house, give yourself a little extra time because there is definitely a lot more people out there. and the b.a.r.t. extension to santa clara county is finally complete. we will take a live look right now, this is really exciting. today transportation officials will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the berryessa

it will be calmer and warmer by sunday. so a couple days where we get a break from summer heat. 59 at half moon bay, mid to upper 60s san francisco, richmond, san mateo, everybody else pretty much low to mid-70s. and tonight 40s in the deepest inland valleys. low to mid-5f us under a partly cloudy and breezy sky. here is a look at the breezes. they are already up around 10 to 15 miles per hour this morning, but 15 to 25 easily during the afternoon and evening hours. and that is why we'll see increasing sunshine late as that draws in drier air. tonight we drop down to 5 to 15 and tomorrow back up to 10 to 20. so not quite as aggressive as today. but the temperatures will be about the same tomorrow. 50s at the coast, 70s inland. and we'll lose the free air conditioning and temperatures jump are 10 degrees from the coast. have a great day.

and starting today, about 300 wineries and breweries in sonoma county will be allowed to reopen tasting rooms without being required to serve food. face coverings and social distancing will still be required. since may 23, sonoma county wineryes and breweries have been allowed to serve food and drinks outdoors if they have a food facility permit. they now join napa county wineries which were allowed to resume business this week. >> did i tell you that i went to a winery in napa this weekend? >> no, you didn't. how was it? >> it was a good experience. we had to wear masks. i did a little tour. but of course during the tasting you can take the mask off. and i really felt like it was a good experience. so i'm excited to see this. >> was it indoor or outdoor? >> indoor. is. >> and you still felt safe? >> uh-huh. maybe i was just ready. >> good to hear it. >> it could have been both. >> that is encouraging.
