re-opening, there is, sad to say, a grim forecast for the coronavirus pandemic, which has already killed more than 114,000 of our fellow americans. >> more than 20 states are now reporting a rising number of cases. in texas the statewide hospitalization rate has increased 42% since memorial day. utah and oregon now putting re-opening plans on hold because of increases in cases, and in arizona, yuma county is now urging all residents to strictly follow the newly updated cdc guidelines including masks in public and avoiding crowds. >> and the other big story we're following this morning, for the third week in a row protesters taking to the streets across the country overnight demanding change in the wake of george floyd's death. leaders nationwide are listening and reacting. >> we're going to talk more about the protests. first though for more on the pa updad idelines for the

ev, odor to you once again. >> reporter: good morning, dan, so this morning across the country in huge sections of the united states, covid-19 cases continue to rise to the point that some areas are actually temporarily pausing their plans to re-open. we're really starting to see some of the impact of lifting restrictions and health officials worry that it could get even worse as people continue to gather in these large crowds. the cdc is now estimating the u.s. death toll could hit 140,000 people by the fourth of july. across america this morning, covid-19 cases are on the rise in 22 states and puerto rico. >> some people don't know that the coronavirus is not gone. and they treating it like it's gone >> reporter: the cdc has published new guidelines urging people to wear masks and saying the places with the highest risk are large in-person gatherings where attendees travel from outside the local area. >> you can open up and help the economy by getting jobs back and doing things like that, but that doesn't mean that you walk around without a mask, that you jump into a crowd, that you stop washing your hands.

>> reporter: but alrea several states the spread of the virus may be accelerating. in oregon after the state logged its single highest daily case total, the governor is now pausing the re-opening process for a week. and while texas is still pushing ahead with re-opening now allowing restaurants at 75% capacity, the state's hospitalization rate has jumped 42% since memorial day. south carolina is seeing its own surge now gaining new covid-19 cases at twice the rate of the national average. the state has seen new record high case totals three of the last five days. though the governor has said lifted restrictions will not return. in florida while cases continue to climb, miami beaches are expected to be packed for their first weekend back open. now, some places like new york have successfully flattened the curve so far, but health officials are stressing it's going to take continued safety measures, washing hands, wearing masks and staying spread apart

so like so many shows, production of "jeopardy" was halted back in march due to covid-19. trebek says he had no plans to sign off the long-running quiz show and earlier in march revealed that he had beaten the one-year survival rate for stage four pancreatic cancer. now, the survival rate for one year is just 18%. and he reported, quote, i am very happy to report that i have beaten that marker, so we hope alex is still feeling great and we can't wait to see him back at work. now, guys, this video should make your day. you have to see this. one mom is bringing joy to millions of people online. look at this video when she finds out that her daughter was accepted into law school. >> oh, kim. just

>> reporter: good morning, dan. reality stars are celebrated for being provocative, for being real. but entertainment companies are now sending a powful message that being real does not mean you can be racist. this morning, some of reality tv's most famous faces facing a new reality after a rash of firings for allegedly racist behavior. >> what is not okay about having a bunch of customers in here? >> reporter: bravo dropping two of its biggest stars from hit show "vanderpump rules," stassi schroeder and kristen doute fired this week after former cast member faith stowers spoke out about being targeted. stowers first learning about it two years ago after schroeder spoke out about it on her podcast recalling a time when she and doute reported stowers for a crime she did not commit because she looked like the suspect, a black woman. >> i talked about it before. no one cared to listen. maybe it's the people that changed their minds to listen to me now that because it was all

around the world instead of vice versa. >> reporter: on friday the representative releasing a statement saying, stassi and kristen acknowledged what they did was wrong, have apologized and have been punished. without casting aside their actions or the impact of those actions, they want to move forward as part of the solution in ways that are productive, meaningful and severe. stassi says she supports bravo's decision to fire them. >> the purpose for me speaking it out in my life was get it off my chest and to let the public know this is what happened to me so hopefully that would help someone else going through it to speak up. >> reporter: bravo also firing co-stars max boyens and brett caprioni from the show after racist tweets resurfaced. they have apologized. also this week mtv announcing they've cut ties with "teen mom" taylor selfridge, quote, in light of her past racist statements on social media and the challenge star dee thnguyen after offensive comments about the black lives matter movement. both have apologized.

how can simple acts of kindness make a big difference? >> you know, a lot of people are feeling pain. they're feeling trauma. i even would say some are feeling posttraumatic stress disorder over the events of the last ten days or the last three months. and so an ago of kindness was always powerful but right now it's especially effective. it's giving people another chance to not quit when you're kind to someone in the midst of high stress and intensity, you're giving them the tenacity and the fuel to keep going and that's why i want everyone to be kind. >> hey there, it's dan, congratulations on the new book. you write about all the different ways and kinds of people to be kind to in our lives, and you're going to give us some steps that we can all take. let's start with being kind to ourselves. >> yes, very, very, important. it's crucial because what i say is if you don't take care of yourself, you'll take it out on other people.

and so the term h been popularized. i call self-care community care because if you take care of yourself, you'll be better equipped to handle high stress situations. dan knows all about this. he's a huge proponent of it, meditation, journaling, taking time, taking a command of about one hour of your time a day is useful in reinvigorating yourself so that you can face anything. that could be time to dream, that could be time to journal but invest in your future even if it is just in 15-minute increments throughout the day. another thing i would say is take some quiet time and consider who you are noticing. who does your heart break for right now? where is your compassion directed? you want an authentic expression of kindness and not just an obligatory giving. >> some good advice there. and for the rest of those tip, you got to read her book. >> yeah, congratulations, a.b., we're so happy for you. >> "your hidden superpower" is out right now. thank you so much, adrienne, for waking up this morning. >> i want to say i once told eva

♪ we are back now with kitchen hacks we can all use during this time. your appliances, everything leinimeusing at ho tco you just can't kick it so "real simple's" stephanie sisco has methods that really work. thanks for joining us. >> good morning. >> good morning. we're going to jump right to it here. we've all been cooking a lot recently. dan has been making gluten-free toast three times a day. how do we clean up the buildup in dirt and grease and get it out of our oven specifically? >> there is a really simple and safe solution you can make using items you probably already have in your pantry. starting with half a cup of baking soda, so pour that into a bowl and then add a little water to create a paste. kind of the consistency of toothpaste. if it feels too runny, add more baking soda. too thick, add more water. there's no perfect measurement here. then you're going to put this

paste on with a brand-new out of the box sponge so you're not transferring any bad bacteria liberally onto all of the grime that's built up at the bottom of your oven. just avoid the heating elements. let that sit for 20 minutes. if you have something that seems really extra baked on, caked on, gross, take white vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz it on top of that baking soda formula and that will start to fizz up and the chemical reaction will actually help break down that extra grimy gunk. and then after 20 minutes, wipe it away with a damp cloth. you should be good as new. >> eva, they tell me don't do that while you're baking a pot roast. >> no, long after. >> you don't want to burn yourself while trying to clean the oven, right? what about for microwaves for those that are n>> so for the m is is a sileat and white vinegar.

so put about three to four cups of water into a microwave safe bowl along with four tablespoons of white vinegar. run that for four minutes and what that will do is basically create a steam bath for your microwave, and then it'll soften all the gunk and crime that's stuck to the sides and the roof. you can come back with a microfiber cloth to wipe it all away, and microfiber is great because it's made of millions of tiny little microfibers that really grab on to the dirt and debris more so than a typical cloth rag. >> i see you have a coffeemaker which is convenient because at our house the coffeemaker gets a workout. i don't drink coffee but my wife likes an intravenous drip of it all day long. how do we keep it clean while making the coffee continue to taste good? >> so again white vinegar is your solution here. turn the machine off and fill the reservoir with white vinegar. run a complete cycle so once the carafe is full of hot white vinegar, turn off the heating
