>> hey, liz, good morning to you. starting out with clouds around here. we're looking at that marine layer that is in line for mist and drizzle at the shoreline. live doppler 7 right now we have a little bit of cloud cover out there. temperatures are in the 50s. 56 in vallejo. 61 in concord with 57 in san francisco. so here is the plan for today. the clouds will fade. we'll get into mostly sunny skies with numbers in the mid-70s inland by noontime but as we get towards the latter part of the day, we're in the 80s so a warmup is in store around the bay, inland, even at the coast. it will be breezy to gusty again at the shoreline. we'll talk about how long the storm lasts as we head toward the first day of summer. liz? >> thank you. an investigation sunday way after someone shot at chp officers in hayward. we have brand new video from overnight, take a look here t happened around 2:00 this morning along llewellyn boulevard in hayward. officers were shot at, none of

them are hurt. we have calls for more details on exactly what happened. we'll bring you any updates as soon as we get them. and this is a viral video you've likely seen making the rounds our most searched story, a san francisco man filming his interaction with a white couple confronting him about a black lives matter he stencilled in chalk in front of his home. >> i'm asking you if this is your property. >> why are you asking? >> because it's private property, sir. >> are you defacing private property? >> this taking place in the city's pacific heights neighborhood. luz pena spoke to the man who says he wants on it apology. >> we're saying your signs and everything, and that's good. this is not the way to do it. it's private property. >> reporter: this interaction in pacific rights has gone viral. since it was posted on twitter on thursday. >> what she did was every day, it's polite racism. it's respectable racism, respectfully, sir, i don't think

you belong here at all. >> james juanillo identifies as a brown juan was stenilying black lives matter on this retaining wall when a couple stopped to question him last tuesday. >> if i did live here and it was my property, this would be fine. she thought it was devaluing soeone's property, she knew it was chalk. she knew that would wash away in the rain. and you don't know if i live here or if this is my property. >> we actually do know. >> reprter: but it turns out that james juanillo does live here. his neighbor who owns the property where juanilo lives says he doesn't know this couple. >> she claimed she knew the owner of the house. she doesn't know me. >> reporter: juanillo says he felt attacked and encouraged the couple to call the police. >> they recognized me. i recognized them. they did not even get out of the car. >> reporter: birch box makeup subscription company confired the woman is lisa alexander, the ceo of left face skin care. in a statement birchbox

condemned her actions and cut ties with her company. are you willing to speak to her about what happened? >> absolutely. i'd ask her why, why did she feel what i was doing hurt her? >> reporter: juanillo hopes the video helps this community come together against racism. he says the couple returned a second time after this incident. >> i was standing right here when they showed up and i did one of these. and i waved at them and they took off. >> reporter: we tried to contact lisa alexander and have not heard back. in san francisco, luz pena, abc 7 news. >> hmm. that definitely has gone viral. you'll see it on twitter, if you haven't yet. new this morning, three california police unions are unveiling a national reform agenda and pledging to root out racist officers in the death of george floyd. the los angeles police protective league and the san jose and san francisco police officers associations want to improve outcomes between police officers and the communities that they serve. so here are just some of their

promises. a national database of former officers fired for gross misconduct, a national use of force standard that emphaszes deescalation, ongoing crisis intervention for police officers and a website that is accessible to the public on use of force analysis. in a statement, the three unions said in part "we believe that each of our departments has made tremendous strides in strengthening accountability, transparency and adopting policies that reduce the nun and severity of uses of force. however, we can do more and we believe this agenda should be adopted across our nation as an important step toward improving police and community outcomes." >> when the officers abandon the community there should be consequences with repercussions. >> in vallejo, hundreds protesting outside a police station demanding the speedy release of video of a deadly officer-involved shooting. the incident prompted the state to investigate the police department's policies. officers shot 22-year-old sean

monarosa nearly two weeks ago after he dropped to a kneeling position kneeling outside a walgreens believed to be looting. his family is demanding video footage of its dent. attorney john burr ris says the department has 45 days to do saying the public and the man's family has a right to know what happened. >> this is shocking, hurt to them. if they saw a video, they might have a different view because the cameras themselves can be helpful to them. they could be hurtful, too, so for me, i'd like to know. >> vallejo chief williams says the officer thought he thought to be a handgun, turned out to be a hammer tucked into his swe sweatshirt. we have a link on our website abc7news.com. the protests outside the police department did not get out of hand but officers were standing by. the vallejo police officers association posted this on their facebook page about it. it reads "it should be concerning to people that small children are brought to protests

with open air marijuana smoking, foul vile language, screaming, angry mob mentality and profound anger directed at the police. how to have a civil discussion is what adults should be teaching children." it is not clear if they were referring to yelled's protests but they did make that post last night. thousands turned out for a black lives matter rally in the east bay yesterday. >> no justice. >> no peace. >> no righteous. >> no peace. >> no justice. >> no peace. >> no racist -- >> police. >> rock bridge b.a.r.t. station to berkeley's plaza. the sa ourks local 10 it 1 organized the event to protect systemic racism to protest systemic racism they say is plaguing the workforce. protesters chanted the names of people killed recently by police including breonna taylor and george floyd. >> we recognize our obligation to the greater community and the people on earth to make sure that what's going on in this

through the crisis. one big focus is your health and tomorrow a new order takes effect in the most populous county that will dramatically who can test for covid-19, any essential worker, anyone showing symptoms and anyone exposed to a known covid case. it follows a slight uptick in cases following eased restrictions. major hospitals like kaiser and valley medical center said they are already on board with this plan. and a big reopening tomorrow for the return to daily life. san francisco's westfield mall and the galleria will open for limited indoor shopping. westfield says masks are required at all times. the malls have to limit the number of shoppers and set up social distance signs and have crews clean more frequently. shopper also notice hand sanitizer and hand washing stations. westfield valley fair in santa clara, face coverings will be required for shoppers and

employees there, signs will be up throughout the mall telling shoppers to social distance. the food court will be open but seats will not return until sit-down dine something permitted by the county. in the next week, westfield plans to launch a capacity planningment tool that allows customers to go online to see how many people are on site at any given time. some stores will also offer shopping by appointment. >> technology should be an enabler, should make it easy on people or offer more choices and more convenience to people and i think we're trying to accommodate that movement. >> valley fair is set to open its doors at 11:00 tomorrow. this morning san mateo leaders are saying why their residents demand a faster reoption, petitioning governor newsom for a health order variance putting san mateo county in line with california. it was the first to implement shelter-in-place orders in late

march. residents changed their behaviors and ready to bring back the economy especially restaurants. >> we have to make sure our restaurants they survive. we know that the revenue of restaurants are down 60% to 90%. if they don't dine out, they will die out. >> if governor newsom gives san mateo county the green light, restaurants could reopen for indoor dining, so could hair salons, movie theaters and gyms. things are moving fast, lisa, in this reopening process. >> yes, and it's exciting, but as we look at the golden gate bridge, that's not exciting, is it? we've got low clouds and fog, temperatures in the upper 50s, even some mist and drizzle, but it's going to clear, it's going to be a warmer day. it's going to be windy at the quoes b coast but not everywhere. we'll talk about the warming trend and detail coming up. also ahead been. >> tear gas is out into the crowd now. >> overnight, police protests bubbling over in atlanta. we have full coverage of this

welcome back. small business owners in another part of oakland spent all day cleaning up after vandals left a path of deskrux. 100 people blocked the street with trash cans and set them on fire. some people started hurling rocks and bottles at officers. all this happening in the temescal district along telegraph avenue friday night. cornell bernard sent spent the day talking to business owners. >> reporter: plywood is going up

outside mark's paint mart where six windows were smashed friday night by vandals. >> makes no sense. >> reporter: co-owner chris rego says his family-owned business started in 1973, has never been targeted. >> we're just back open and we're getting busy again and now this happens. it's just, it makes no sense. >> reporter: oakland police say groups of vandals are responsible for the damage. the paint store security camera captured a group outside the store setting fires on the street. staff at kelly moore were scraping paint off the floor after vandals broke in, looted, dumping paint inside the store and out. >> basically they just vandalized the street, sidewalk, broke all our glass, and then paint everywhere inside, destroyed. >> reporter: at least a half dozen businesses were shoveling shattered glass including non-profit east bay depot for creative resuit which proudly supports recent marches and

demonstrations. >> i know there's a lot of anger and it's a perfect storm right now so it's understandable and forgivable. >> emily and james chen were helping clean up the damage. >> especially if you support what's happening, the movement in the country and black lives matter especially if you support that and impacted in this way i think that's really tough. >> reporter: the cleanup on telegraph avenue could take days. one oakland city councilman tells us he toured the damage, calls it unnecessary and counterproductive. >> it's not helping the cause at all. it actually disstrakts from the cause and it harms our local businesses. >> reporter: police are investigating. meantime, the big cleanup goes on. in oakland, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> oakland police are asking for help identifying the people responsible for vandalizing businesses, they want store owners who lost merchandise to submit a report online to the city website, email any video or photos of the damage. opd is asking store owners to

register security cameras through the city so they can access possible getaway cars. pg&e is preparing for a difficult fire season and power shutoffs during this coronavirus pandemic. cording to "the chronicle" the utility is installing more resilient power poles, covering bare wires and burying some lines underground and trimming trees along nearly 1,000 power line miles and installing more weather stations and fire watching cameras. pg&e says it's well ahead of where it was compared to this time last year but warns power shutoffs could happen again but they hope it will affect fewer people. and a weekend neighborhood event to combat racism and promote unity got a celebrity endorsement. two friends in upstate new york wanted to do something small but powerful following the death of george floyd. they set up signs that read "black or white, relax and have a beer" in front of a house in the town of pittsford near rochester and invited people to join them. the invitation got the attention

of country music star brad paisley who met the two on zoom and shipped them hundreds of dollars worth of beer. they're now hosting a happy hour every thursdy. that's so cool. i love that, lisa. good to see people coming together and it's a hard time so seeing some positive outcomes in all of this is nice. >> definitely. you were talking about the weather and pg&e, and we have a drought monitor to show to you see where we stack up this time of year, but we are looking at the winds shifting as the weather system pushing to the north of us tuesday and that will temporarily bring an offshore component to the wind and that's not what we like to hear this time of year and we'll talk about it and spell it out for new the next few minutes. right now, live doppler 7 showing patchy fog around the bay. we had some mist and some drizzle, that's the system up there that will pass to the north of us and why it's significant is because it is going to allow for a wind shift and when that happens, that's

when the winds are going to get drier and the relative humidity will decrease as the temperatures climb. right now it is 58 in pacifica. 62 in oakland. good morning to you, hayward. 61. we've got 60 around fremont and also in san jose. so this is not a local camera, but it's windy there. looks like it's d.c. coastal drizzle this morning, looking at sunny and warmer conditions today. the warming trend gets under way throughout the middle of the week, and as we look at where we stack up so far in terms of our rainfall season, you notice the contours and the colors up in northern california, that's thank means that we're dry. southern california around palm springs above average rainfall for this time of year but as we get in closer you can see we're under the severe category here, that orange for most of the bay area, and in the south bay, did you pretty well this past season, better than the north bay, so the drought category just moderate for you. so overall, this translates into some pretty ripe conditions out there, if we get that offshore

flow and a lot of hot weather, which is usually what happens as we get towards the end of summer. but right now, as we get towards the morning hours, you can see the clouds, they clear, low clouds and fog stack up along the peninsula here so it will be breezy along the coast, and then into tomorrow, that weather system pushing to the north of us, could see a few sprinkles, other wiles it's just going to keep the temperatures from getting too warm today and tomorrow, and then we get this thank wind shift. by tuesday it's a pleasant day, a few 80s inland, by wednesday numbers are climbing into the 90s as we look at our east bay valley, still cool around san francisco but then by thursday, looking at about 80 in oakland, upper 90s as the warming continues and the winds will get lighter on thursday, so the windiest day the offshore wins looking to be tuesday night into wednesday. 74 today in oakland. look for 68 in san francisco. warming up through the upper 70s in san jose, and how about mid 80s as we get towards san rafael today. the accuweather seven-day

forecast the warming trend starting today, 60s and 70s from the coast to around the bay. mid 80s inland, and then as we get towards your monday and tuesday, things stay the same temperature wise but the winds will shift and the warmer weather as we get into the middle of the week. so it looks pretty nice, typical for summer. since we've been so dry this past season, always a good idea to watch the winds and see how hot it's going to get which it's not going to get too hot, liz but the winds going offshore temporarily midweek. >> it has been quite windy midweek and we have to watch out for that. thanks, lisa. we know the economy is suffering but for bay area tech giants they see opportunity. next we look at the long list of moves they're making to increase their foothold on the future, without you even knowing it.

own abc 7 news a suspect arrested accused of stealing a construction vehicle in san francisco and driving it across the bay bridge.

it all started at fulsome and beale streets before 7:30 last night. you can see the construction site with the parking meter and fence taken out. officers found both the suspect and the vehicle onnier baba way in a island on the roadway underneath the bridge. it's unclear what charges the suspects will face. get ready to move your car again. starting tomorrow san francisco will start enforcing street sweeping for the first time since the shelter-in-place order went into effect in march. officials say you will get a ticket if you don't move your car. public works crews say they saw as many as 18,000 cars not moving on respective daying. street sweeping is necessary to make sure streets remain clean as businesses start to open back up. the coronavirus sent the economy in historic recession but tech giants including here in the bay area are trying to stake out an even larger share of our daily lives in the long run. the "new york times" reports companies like apple, facebook, google and amazon are acquiring other businesses to shape what's

to come. things like cloud computing and a self-driving vehicle startup. because the companies have become essential for us to shop online and stay in touch with our loved ones, they are using this time as an opportunity to build and invest in our future. now to the south bay, where tomorrow we'll see the first weekday commuters on new b.a.r.t. trains decades in the making. they shared time lapse video of the train making the run yesterday, hopes to bring b.a.r.t. trains to the san jose area since 1989. voters aproved funding in 2000 and a couple tax measures have been passed since then to bring the system to san jose. here are the two new stations offering service, this is the milpitas station, it is off montague expressway and a couple blocks off interstate 680 and we have the berryessa station in san jose on berryessa road half way between interstate 680 and highway 101. the next phase of the b.a.r.t. extension is expected to start in 2022.

building a better bay area for a safe and secure future. this is abc 7 news. >> it fueled the fire, a worse fire. we've been doing the peaceful protesting and in the midst of that you guys are still killing us. >> pain and anger in atlanta fueling one of the many ongoing u.s. protests, this one stretching into the early morning, this is brand new video from overnight, the recent death of an unarmed black man in custody the latest development in the weeks of police brutality called into question. good morning, everyone. i'm liz kreutz. we'll get to the situation in atlanta in just a moment, but if you're just joining us, this half hour, we are going to start with a quick look at the weather. here is meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa.

>> hey, liz, good morning to you. we're starting out with fog, even some mist and drizzle at the coast. you may need your wipers for a little bit but sunshine is on the way. we have a warming trend on the way for your weekend as well. so looking outside sun coming up in about 20 minutes or so. 58 in the city, it is 59 in mountain view with 60 in san jose. emeryville awfully gray there and numbers in the low 50s from santa rosa so it is milder by a couple of degrees this morning with all the cloud cover. 55 in napa. the plan then at 10:00 we'll have partly cloudy skies and a few 70s inland but those warmer numbers, those oranges come into play in our east bay valleys and that means we'll see some 80s arriving, getting close to it in the south bay by 1:00, we're in the mid-70s and later on in the day the marine layer allows for the breeze, gusty on the peninsula. we'll talk about the rest of the week which includes a pretty nice looking summertime preview

coming up. breaking news out of the east bay a search is under way after someone shot at chp officers in hayward. new video from overnight this happened around 2:00 this morning around llewellyn boulevard in hayward. officers were shot at, none of them are hurt. we are keeping a close eye on this and pushing for more details. we'll bring you any updates as soon as we get them. back to the brand new video out of atlanta. protesters in the streets into the early morning upset over the deadly police shooting of 27-year-old rayshard brooks on friday. this wendy's was gutted by flames yesterday, the same site where brooks died in custody with police using tear gas and high-frequency sound to clear out protesters just before 2:00 a.m. as of this morning the officer who shot and killed brooks is fired, that officer pulling the trigger after a struggle during a sobriety check. atlanta's police chief also stepping down in the wake of the killing. abc news reporter rita roy has

the story. >> reporter: authorities in georgia are scouring through videos of the violent strugle that turned deadly friday night when officials say police shot and killed brooks after he allegedly resisted arrest. >> i don't want anyone in any circumstances to rush to any form of judgment. it's very easy to do in these cases on either side. we realize there's a tremendous amount of emotion. >> reporter: officers were called to the parking lot around 10:30 p.m. with complaints of brooks asleep in his car, blocking the drive-through. police claimed he failed a sobriety test and when they tried to arrest him, he resisted and was able to grab at officer's taser. in this surveillance video you can see him running away, then appearing to point the taser at the officers. >> at this point, the atlanta officer reaches down and retrieves his weapon from his holster, discharges it, strikes mr. brooks there on the parking lot and he goes down. >> reporter: late saturday, attorneys for brooks' family say

the officers didn't have to use deadly force. >> he had other options that sho than shooting a man in the back. >> reporter: erica shields stepping down saturday after calls for her resignation as protesters demand police reform and racial justice. >> chief shields has offered to immediately step aside as police chief, so that the city may move forward with urgency in rebuilding the trust so desperately needed throughout our communities. >> reporter: rina roy, abc news, new york. >> the family of george floyd is preparing a lawsuit against the four minneapolis police officers who were there when he died. a lawyer representing the family made the comment when asked about officer derek chauvin, or ex-officer derek chauvin receiving pension benefits, the officer scene kneeling on floyd's neck and faces a second-degree murder charge. he could receive nearly $1 million in pension benefits even

if he is convicted. the u.s. secret service says an employee did use pepper spray to clear protesters before president trump's controversial photo shoot at the church outside the white house on june 1st. in a statement the secret service noted it released information saying nobody used tear gas or pepper spray based on records at that time. a spokesperson for the park police involved removing the protesters also said it was a mistake to deny using tear gas. the police force were using pepper balls instead and the spokesperson said not clarifying was misleading. coming up on "this week" ben carson will address the trump administration's response to calls for reform across the country. you can watch that full interview on "this week with george stephanopolous" at 8:00 on abc 7. let's get to the latest in the coronavirus pandemic where cases are spiking in several states reopening across the country. the somber headline from the cdc this weekend warning up to 25,000 more people could die before independence day on top of the nearly 115,000 lives already lost in the u.s.

right now there are more than 2 million cases being treated. the number of rising cases in utah and oregon have forced their governors to push back the reopening dates. texas, arizona and florida have seen a record increase in cases within the last week. miami beach has reopened this weekend and the mayor is concerned. >> i always said when we started opening there were two paths, the path of responsibility and the path of irresponsibility and unfortunately we're starting to see behavior that concerns me deeply. >> amid the uptick, the cdc published a new list of guidelines, including wearing a mask, avoiding large gatherings where people travel from outside local areas and main tanning social distance when possible. new york's governor pointed out yesterday wearing a mask means wearing it properly. >> i also say especially to my young friends, this is a mask. this is a chin guard. nobody told you to wear a chin guard. wear a mask. >> everyone's guilty of that i'm

sure. governor cuomo asking everyone who attended protests to get tested. some good news, new york saw 32 covid-19 deaths friday, the lowest number of deaths in the state since the beginning of the crisis. and today is world blood donor day. coronavirus has led to blood shortages around the world as blood drives have been canceled and social distancing guidelines limit mobility. facebook is expanding its blood donations feature on its site. it helps you connect information about when and where you can donate safely. you can sign up on your own facebook account, must be between 18 to 65 years old. nearly two dozen libraries in contra costa county will start its front door service tomorrow. that means you'll be able to pick up books and other items placed on hold throughout the website. people who have or through the website. people who have had holds before the stay-at-home order are first. appointments are encouraged but not required. you may have to wait if you don't have one. be sure when you go pick that up that you have that library card

young people are standing up and demanding change. nearly 3,000 people showed up or the seattle children's march. parents, teachers and students from preschool to high school turned out. children organized this event through their parents, they shared some of their goals and demands. >> our children have spoken and they have created ten demands. some of their demands are they want police officers that are committing crimes especially violent crimes against black and brown people to be prosecuted to the full extent. >> not just white people or black people but everyone care about what's been going on. >> organizers say this was inspired by the birmingham's crew side of 1963, when the children's movement held several non-violent demonstrations. lisa, it's been windy out there ena little fogsy this morning, too. >> i had to use the wiper this
