we are following news right now. that breaking news involves a situation that still brought traffic to a standstill on the bay bridge. cars blocking every lane on the westbound span. we saw a patrol car pulle just ten minutes ago. this is a live look as i speak. we heard reports of officers stopping cars on the bridge at t yerba buena island. it may be a protest. no traffic is moving on the western span of the bay bridge. as you look at that shot right there, you can see some of those folks out there on the bridge. we're talking about around a dozen or two dozen people on that bridge. i've seen some other pictures out there this evening of the

standstill and the backup before this area, the area that has been closed down because people literally waiting in their cars for this situation to be cleared where they can open this up to traffic. now, we will keep monitoring this situation and bring you updates on abc7 news. thank you for joining us at 5:00, i'm j.r. stone. >> and i'm dion lim. for the most part, it has been the big cities where we've seen protesters. today, it was danville's turn in what was billed as a wake-up march. cornell was there and spoke to the organizers. >> that organizer never dreamed she would be leading a protest march in her hometown, but it's happening. hundreds of people came out tonight. >> no justice no peace! >> several hundred people on the move through the streets of downtown danville in support of a growing movement.

>> because black lives matter. >> this peaceful march ornid. she is 25 years old and a danville native americ. >> i never thought that this was going to be my reality. we talk about rosa parks and martin luther king, but this is the moment. this is real. >> black lives matter! >> michael ambrose and his mom, sydney, were here. >> there's not a lot of black people in this town, and we need to show support for them. we're tired of seeing police brutality and all that. we're out here supporting them. >> before the march, some shared painful stories. they say systemic racism has no place here or anywhere. >> living in danville, i can never not see color because i'm constantly reminded of mine. >> basically i drew george floyd because sadly he died.

video calling out a san francisco homeowner for painting a black lives matter message in front of his pacific heights home is apologizing. here is part of the exchange. >> i'm asking you if this is your property. >> why are you asking? >> because it's private property. >> because it's private property. >> are you defacing private property? >> that video seen so many times. the woman speaking to james juanillo is lisa alexander. juanillo identifies as a brown man. in a statement to abc7 news, alexander apologized for the confrontation and says, quote, the last 48 hours has taught me my actions were those of someone who was not aware of the damage caused by being ignorant and naive to racial inequalities. when i watched that video, i am shocked and sad that i bhooifd the way i did. it was disrespectful to mr. juanillo and i am deeply sorry for that. anyone with video, pictures, or information about a night of vandalism in oakland is urged to contact police.

yesterday at least half a dozen businesses were cleaning up shattered glass following friday night's destruction. officers say they were met with resistance when they responded to reports of a group of 100 people, some armed with bats on telegraph avenue. store windows were broken and a building even set on fire. police say no arrests have been made. three of the largest police unions in california today unveiled a national reform plan. those unions are in san francisco, san jose, and los angeles. the plan includes creating a database tracking officers who are fired for gross misconduct. a national use of force standard with a focus on de-escalation, more training, including ongoing crisis intervention training for officers. at the same time police departments are warning against defunding their offices. >> all the things that our community wants us to do to be better, to respond faster, to have better training, you start

talking about defunding, you're actually taking that away. so it doesn't help anybody. it doesn't help the cops and it sure doesn't help the communities they serve. >> the plan is outlined in ads today that police unions placed in four newspapers, including "the chronicle." the city of fort bragg may get a new name. the city on the mendocino coast says it received requests to change its name, including many from outside the city. fort bragg was named after brag to know i bragston brag who was a confederate general in the civil war. fort bragg's mayor says the council will discuss whether to put the issue on the november ballot for residents to decide. religious institution went ahead with indoor, in-person services this morning. parishioners returned to st. peter and paul church in north beach this morning. services were last held in

welcome back to abc7 news at 5:00. 24-hour fitness will permae ten locations. this is the gym at market street in the castro. it will close along with three others in clubs in alamo, berkeley, san jose, fremont, milpitas and walnut creek will also close.

members of those clubs are welcome to visit other locations. it will open its other bay area gyms once it's safe to do so. in the south bay one of the bay area's largest shopping malls is reopening tomorrow. westfield valley fair in santa clara is ready to welcome back shoppers. if you want to go, you will need to have face coverings, which employees will have as well. signs are going to be posted reminding people to maintain social distancing. the food court will also be open, but sitdown dining is not allowed. caltrain will increase its service starting tomorrow in response to the easing of restrictions. it will now run 70 trains every weekend-day, up from the current 42. this will allow for three trains per hour during the height of the commute. caltrain is going to use a skip-stop system for limited-service trainings, meaning fewer sto trip times.

welcome back. for the first time in three months, san francisco is going to enforce the parking rules for street sweeping. starting tomorrow, you will get a ticket if you do not move your car. the city says it needs to make sure the streets are clean as more and more businesses reopen. stanford students today celebrated accomplishments and shared memories during a virtual celebration of 2020 graduates. ♪

they sound great. that is the stanford tailsman a cappella group celebrating graduates during what would have been the university's commencement. this morning's live stream featured reflections from students and famous alumni. stanford will hold an in-person graduation when coronavirus restrictions are lifted. >> i swear those virtual celebrations get better and better. we're joined by meteorologist drew tuma. we love being in studio, but today was the day to be outside, drew. spectacular. >> yeah, really gorgeous out there, j.r. we're talking about sunshine this afternoon, very comfortable temperatures. warmer weather moving back in as summer officially arrives on saturday. live doppler 7 showing you we had a marine earlier today, but

it is eroding as we speak. the golden gate bridge, just a few hours ago the entire bridge was consumed in fog. so temperatures a little bit warmer today than we were yesterday. but all in all, it's very comfortable. 70 right now in oakland. 76 in san jose. it's a cool 60, though, in the city since we had fog for much of the day. 77 in santa rosa. overnight tonight mainly clear skies south of the golden gate. partly cloudy skies and temperatures will bottom out in the mid-50s to lower 60s over the next 12 hours. so tomorrow, again, temperature-wise it's not that bad. it's pretty comfortable in the afternoon. however, we'll find increasing high clouds throughout the morning and early afternoon. so by 4:00 it's not only partly cloudy, but we'll have that breeze about 10 to 20 miles per hour with that onshore breeze keeping temperatures pretty comfortable tomorrow again.

so highs across the region on monday, 65 in the city. 78 in san jose, close to where we are today. 72 in oakland, about 80 in santa rosa. 80 is the high for fairfield. on tuesday we're going to lose the marine layer and by the afternoon we'll start to see a little bit warmer in terms of our temperatures. more widespread 70s and 80s around the bay shore line. but watch what happens as we fast forward into wednesday. this is when it really starts to warm up and those temperatures really jump. so by wednesday afternoon you can see those temperatures going back into the low 90s. a lot of 80s around the bay shore line. we'll continue to warm up even on thursday. thursday looks to be the hottest day we have this week. we're in the mid-or upper 90s in our hottest spots, even a lot of 80s from oakland to redwood city to hayward. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. partly cloudy tomorrow.
