oakland city council to pass legislation to make the officers association accountable for cases of excessive force. the san mateo police department hosted a town hall where they discussed reform. panelists included former chief ed berberini and reverend lori owens, officers association and allison gilmore and more. the police chief stressed that devoting time and effort is key in all of this, where officers focus on building ties and working closely with the members of community. >> every police officer must be a community policing officer and that is something embedded here at san mateo p.d. and i know it is true of the police departments in our region. it is a philosophy that we have to adopt on a daily basis and it shouldn't be a special project. >> they touched on expanding bias training and how police could better serve the

community. felony murder and aggravated assault. two of the 11 charges a atlanta police officer faced in a deadly shooting outside of a wendy's. the district attorney announced charges against the two officers involved in the death of rays brooks. rolfe appeared to point the gun at the officer. the brooks family said the charges are a step toward justice. >> i don't know what i would have done, by you felt everything that he felt just by hearing what he went through. and it hurt. it hurt really bad. >> rolfe's attorney said when he turned any officer would believe he intended to disarm or disable or seriously injure him. the second officer devin bron san faced three charges including aggravated assault.

decade. cutting my hair and my two sons. it is the first day back behind the chair since mid-march and jeremy has mixed emotions. >> the barbershops and nail salons, we feelve been forgotten about through the whole pandemic but today is the first day back. we're nervous and excited and anxious. >> anxious to see regular customers like yours truly and to have income again some many have familiesism was anxious to see what was different. >> take this off one side at a time. >> first clients and barbers have to wear masks. a strap on one side when it gets in the way but use your hand to hold it in place over nose and mouth. no magazines on the tables any more. they've been replaced by hand sanitizer. the barber chairs are six feetee airsnd benches since they take appointments no crowding inside. some bashers wear gloves and others don't.

restaurants, gyms, zoos and campgrounds to reopen. on friday it will allow nail salons and personal care services to reopen. and solano county will match the limits set by the state. napa county may open nail salons but it is not confirmed. and alameda will be the last to allow dining. -- if their both approved two bay area counties will not have a variance, alameda and santa clara. the santa clara county sheriff is investigating threats again dr. sarah cody. they face mounting pressure to relax restrictions related to covid-19. chris nguyen has the story from san jose. >> reporter: as the architect of one of the first shelter-in-place orders, dr. sarah cody has been criticized

for taking a cautious approach to reopening the economy. but now the sheriff's office is investigating a series of threats made against her in recent weeks. the county released a statement saying in part, we condemn any efforts to harm or intimidate our public health officer, an individual who deserves our respect and appreciation for having the bravery to make the tough calls needed to protect the health and well being of all residents including the most vulnerable of our community. cindy chavez, president of the santa clara county board of supervisors recognized the hardship placed on residents. >> what we ask of medical professionals and scientists is to follow the facts and to give us their best judgment. and we want to encourage scientists to continue to do that. >> reporter: statewide seven public health officers have quit since the start of the pandemic including the top health official in orange county who received death threats.

firefighters are getting a handle on this afternoon fire

breaking out near the port ofsk of smoke overhead. it started at 4:00 p.m. at the schnitzer steel, from jack london square. firefighters say there are no injuries. a emotional final fair well for a husband and father and sheriff killed in the line of duty. deputy sergeant damon gutzwiller, the gathering of hundreds was approved by the governor waiving the shelter in place rules for this event. before it began community members lined the streets to honor the sergeant. >> he loved what he did. it wasn't just a job. he wanted to take care of the community. he loved the commuty wanted to build a family and raise children. >> at the heart of the service was fobby gutzwiller who is pregnant and they also have a 2-year-old son who received his.

>> i pray for the strength to araise the amazing children he would have raised. thank you for the community, the community that damon loved so much. and died defending. >> gutzwiller was 38. he had been with the sheriff's office since 2006. he was killed and injured on june 6th in what investigators say was an ambush. one suspect was arrested and is now facing charges. emotional testimony today from the victims families of the 2018 campfire in paradise. that is after pg&e pleaded guilty as we reported to 84 counts of involuntary manslaughter. melanie woodrow has the story. >> reporter: in this butte county superor courtroom, they finally hadculate tos to pg&e. susan lost her mother. >> i have never bn there anything like this before in my we lost everything.

livermore and san jose. than at this time yesterday. 16 degrees warmer at san carlos. so the warming is underway. looking at current temperatures. 70 in san francisco. oakland 78. mid-80s at mountain view. san jose and gill ray and 68 at pacifica. on to slightly warmer readings. temperatures in the mid to upper 80s at santa rosa. petaluma, napa, fairfield and concord and livermore. and these are forecast fooeeatu. a preview. tomorrow. cooling returns on friday and summer begins on saturday afternoon. coy add a fourth, father's day is sunday. now speaking of the heat. we have a red flag warning for high fire danger until 1:00 p.m. tomorrow for solano county. it is hot there. wind out of the north northeast at 15 to 25 miles per hour with occasional gusts up to 35 miles per hour or even higher. it will be very low humidity so those are ideal conditions for fires to start and to expand.

looking at the satellite radar composite, you could see a huge area of cleaning because a large area of high pressure that is dom nantz in the next several days. skies will be clear and it is quite mild overnight with low temperatures dropping only into the upper 50s to low 60s. so not the most comfortable sleeping weather. then tomorrow it is going to be a warm to hot die. look for high temperatures in the upper 70s. around the bay shoreline, upper 80 toss low 90s. inland warm up to mid to upper 90s. it is conceivable that one or maybe two areas in the inland east bay could approach 100 degrees. then our friday we get the coastal cooling. it will also have a slight cooling effect around the bay. saturday the same thingup to summer-like levels on sunday and then father's day. here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. again it is quite hot inland tomorrow. and it is still hot on friday. although coastal cooling.

and then it happened twice. >> so i thought, okay, well we finally got an answer. >> reporter: she received not one but two letters the same day from the edd. she opened the first one. good news, notice of pandemic employment assistance award. and it could go up. >> it will help a little bit. >> then she opened the second letter and her joy evaporated. >> it just says you do not qualify for federal benefits so one letter said i'm receiving and the other letter says i'm not. >> she wasn't sure which letter to believe, this one saying she will get benefits or this one saying she will not. >> so i call and call and call. you just never get through. >> reporter: 7 on your side contacted edd and it gave us the verdict. turns out the bad news prevails. the spokesperson said that a notice of award isn't an award. it only outlines what karen could get if she were eligible

and that second letter says she's not. the edd's lori levy acknowledged this could be very confusing. >> they make it so it is not confusing. you lose a job and you apply for edd, unemployment insurance, you should get it. >> reporter: carrin has filed an appeal and now the website is telling her she's being paid. she isn't. is now 7 on your side is looking into that. and dan and ama, when we figure out what is going on there we'll report back. >> thanks, michael. means focusing on improvement in four major areas, health, education, our changing workplace and the economy. the coronavirus pandemic has affected them all. school districts across california are now implementing new measures that will help stop the spread of coronavirus when campuses reopen in the fall. >> the key to our success and to our safety around a safe reopening is maintaining very small class sizes. maintaining physical distance. and we're going to take the next few weeks to continue working with our schools. >> with schools already struggling to find classrom space before the pandemic, some districts across the state have been working with nearby libraries and community centers to accommodate the need for extra space. other recommendations include requiring everyone to coverings and taking temperatures before eptserring the campus. uc berkeley will opt for a

san francisco pier 39 will reopen to the public tomorrow. to ep sure safety the pier is going to look different. it added an entry gate and limit the amount of people allowed to visit. face masks will be required and hand sanitizing stations have been installed and social distancing stickers have been placed on popular spots. >> about 80% of the visitors who come to pier 39 see the sea lions so they're the most popular attraction. we've set up guidelines and some markers on ground so people would be aware of social distancing while enjoying the sea lions. >> major touch points like handrails will be cleaned ay moreoutdooras beeno restauntsn d there a noticeable difference

a family of pair grin falcons is back together. two newborn chicks spent the week away from mom and dad. they were found on the ground unable to fly at united airlines hanger at sfo. they think the nest may have been too high up. after loving care and attention from the spca, the chicks were reunited with mom and dad back at the nest. >> that is good to hear. well a bear attacked a woman in a southern california backyard. she grabbed what was near to defend herself. it was her laptop. so what happened. here is rob hayes. >> if you live in sierra san gabriel mountains but one day it attacked a 19-year-old woman who had fallen asleep in

her backyard. >> the bear visually started to scratch her and bite into her. and the only thing she could do was to grab her laptop and hit the bear with it. and that managed to break the bear loose and she ran inside. >> reporter: captain of the california fish and wildlife department said the woman is home recovering from the attack. investigators collected bear dna and are checking to see if it is a bear they trapped yesterday in the area. >> if it does come back a positive match to the bear that attacked and bit this young woman, if would be euthanized in the interest of public safety. >> reporter: now the attacks may be rare. but california has seen a higher than normal of number dangerous animal interactions. >> it went up in a tree. >> we've had three mountain lions in california since january and one coyote attack in orange county. and this bear attack two days

absolutely. let's talk about weather. we have a little bit of a heat spike going on here right now. it is sunny right now and it is a mild overnight warm, in fact. and not the best sleeping weather. overnight lows will drop to the upper 50s and low 60. it will be breezy in spots but that won't make it any cooler. then tomorrow it is a hotter day than today. we'll see inland highs in the upper 90s, close to 100 in some spots. upper 80 toss low 90s around the bay shore and upper 70s on the coast. and because of the combination of excessive heat and low humidity and gusty winds, a red flag warning for high fire danger is in effect until 1:00 p.m. tomorrow in solano county and my computer is stuck so that is what happens in intense heat. so let me tell you about the seven-day forecast. it is just about warm on friday inland as tomorrow but they'll be some coastal cooling on friday as we get a return of the onshore flow and a marine layer. and then on saturday over the weekend, in fact, that cooling
