police could be heard telling the suspect to surrender. officers closed part of the street. we're following this story closely and will bring you updates as they come in and we learn more information. walnut creek police say about 200 black lives matter protestors remained peaceful last night. you can see that they were demonstrating in front of the mayor's home. they marched to her house from heather farm park. there is also video of what appears to be a burning of a blue lives matter flag. police say the bloate protestors ended their demonstration just after 11 last night. no arrests were reported. and amy hollyfield will have a live report with more in about 30 minutes. and macy's in walnut creek is boarded up this morning. warm nut cre wall number creek police warned that they were monitoring potential looting.

and we should say that there have been no reports that any looting happened. and abc 7 is working to build a better bay area. and we're following the economy. as the bay area starts to reopen for business, we're here to help you navigate the new realities. and sometimes that means being very surprised. that is what happened yesterday in san mateo county when we saw just about all businesses reopen with very little notice. julian glover is live with administer are more on that. >> reporter: good morning. essentially the county is saying enough with the baby steps, they took a huge leap forward effective immediately almost all businesses have been given the green light to reopen. this means san mateo county is now officially in stage three. salons, bars, casinos, hotels and indoor dining all cleared to reopen. the county health officer made the unexpected change to the health order wednesday. the announcement caught many business owners by surprise like

outdoor dining and fitness classes can start again. and nail and skin care salons, spas and tattoo parlors at the live desk, i'm following the fallout in atlanta after the police killing of rayshard brooks. the atlanta police department is now dealing with a number of sick calls from the department now that the officers involved in the shooting are facing charges. so here is what we've also learned this morning. yesterday the fulton county district attorney announced 11 charges against former police officer garrett rolfe. he is the one who shot brooks twice in the back on friday. and another officer devon brosnan is charged with aggravated assaults. >> this isn't like a celebration

or a victory lap of watching these officers get charged. nobody is happy, nobody is celebrating because this never should have happened. >> police body and dash cam footage shows what happened the night brooks was killed. police say brooks resisted arrest after failing a sobriety test. he took a taser and while running away reached back to point at the officer and that is when rolfe opened fire. rolfe's lawyer says his client heard a sound like a gunshot and fearing for his safety fired his gun. prosecutors also accuse rolfe of kicking brooks while he was on the ground and also are accusing rolfe's partner of standing on brooks' arm after the shooting. ♪ in oakland, young people led this event billed as a black and brown solidarity march. they went from moss wood park to city hall. organizers are calling for defunding the oakland police

department among other items. and a group in napa rallied to support law enforcement. there was also a counterprotest. her is more on that. >> reporter: cheers in support of law enforcement coming from napa, california. >> we're honoring our police and sheriff. >> reporter: hundreds showed up wednesday evening in napa for an event called we back blue in support of officers and deputies. >> what happened to george floyd was wrong. but to say we'll defund police or eliminate them? that is insanity. >> i'm 100% against defunding the police. i think that they do a wonderful service for us and so i am in support of them. >> i supports police department. i also support fairness to black people too. >> reporter: those rallying in support of police certainly weren't here without opposition, they were on one side of the 3rd street bridge and then on the

other side, you can see this woman right here kneeling. that woman part of a small crowd support of the "black lives matter" movement. there was one tense moment as one man yes, ma'am obscenima'ama obscenities. >> i'm not angry. i just want to make sure that we keep the focus on what is important and that is that innocent people's lives have been taken. >> reporter: but on this day though -- >> we support the police and fire departments. >> reporter: the crowd was dominated by support for law enforcement. in napa, jr stone, abc 7 news. crews are making progress on a brush fire in sonoma county. 27 acres were scorched. firefighters say that they are getting it under control. windy conditions did fuel the

number two, oakland mayor is calling for a hate crime investigation after this video posted on social media showed a rope that looks like a noose in a tree. the man who helped install the reason says it is used for exercise and was not meant to offend anyone. and number three, san mateo officially moves in to stage three. salons, bars, casinos and other businesses can now operate. the county made the unexpected change to the health order yesterday catching many business owners by surprise. number four, governor newsom is considering a statewide requirement for people to wear face coverings or masks inside stores and other businesses. the newsom administration briefed county health directors saying a statewide mask order is under consideration. and warm to hot temperatures today from 81 in san francisco to 97 in concord, these temperatures are 11 to 16 degrees warmer than average. and number 6, we are going

at 8:00 tomorrow night right here on abc 7. san francisco police warning of another mountain lion sighting, the department tweeted this last night just after 7:00. it says that the big cat was spotted in the east cut neighborhood. police say the animal has likely -- is likely confused and lost. now, we can't be certain if it is the same mountain lion as this broken that was just outside our abc 7 news studios tuesday morning, an expert tells us that the cat probably came from the open space south of san francisco. by the way, if you encounter this mountain lion or any mountain lion, act like you are bigger than you are, move away slowly, do not turn your back and whatever you do, do not run. it is a beautiful animal, but i don't need to see it at 3:00 in the morning. >> yeah, i don't need him

eight others. fire danger is still high through about 1:00. we have the red flag warning. humidity levels down to single digits and winds could gust up to 50 miles per hour. and we're spiking right now and you see the high yellow to very high, even slipping into napa along with solano county. and by 10:00, that will start pulling back. and when the breezes pick up this evening, we'll have another high to very high in napa and solano county, but after 5:00, that fire threat will go away. so got to be careful for another few hours. federal investigators say the pilot of the helicopter that crashed in the thick fog killing kobe bryant and eight others on board may have been disoriented. the ntsb report says that he had radioed to air traffic controllers that he was ascending to 4,000 feet to get above the clouds when the helicopter was actually heading

forecast. breaking news at the live desk, we have brand new details on a standoff that is happening in san jose right now. this is a live picture for you. this is near center road. i'm trying to go get a look at what is happening. there are several officers in the middle of the road. police say it started with a call about a break-in just before 1:00 this morning. the caller told police that the suspect assaulted the family inside the home. officers were able to take one man into custody, four people escaped. but investigators say several are still inside with possibly two suspects. officers have closed part of the street and we'll stay on top of this breaking story and bring you more details as they come in. in walnut creek, a large "black lives matter" protest took place. they planned to walk to the police station, but they ended

up marching directly to the mayor's house. amy hollyfield has more on what happened. >> reporter: good morning. yeah, the mayor of walnut creek says she supports the "black lives matter" movement and the protesters' right to be heard. they did take the message to her home last night. she was not there thoughthough. they chanted mayor wake up. police estimate that there were about 150 to 200 people gathered in front of her home. they xwurn burned what appeared to be wha blue lives matter flag and called for defunding. the hamayor says she appreciate her passion. >> i was a protest he eor when young, i was protecting against the vietnam war. but it made a difference in how fast the government reacted. so, yes, absolutely i believe in free speech and the right to gather.

103 the hot spot in palm springs. and just a few minute ago aa the u.s. labor department released the jobs number. another 1.5 million people filed for jobless benefits, 45.7 million claims have been filed since mid march. it is the 11th straight week that claims have dropped since nearly 6.9 million people filed in late march. claims are about to double their peak in the gre gre gre 20 2007 to 2009. we'll see how wall street reacts to all of this. a new study finds wealthy americans are spending less these days and it is having an impact on low wage jobs. researchers looked at spending between january and may and they found that the wealthiest 25% of

u.s. households accounted for two-thirds of the decline in credit card spending. they say the drop was due to covid-19 health concerns and it cost many low wage workers their jobs. state lawmakers are set to vote on a bill to help people who lost their jobs. if passed, landlords must attempt to work out a deal with a tenant before eviction. renters would have ten years starting in 2024 to pay back unpaid rent. they may also be eligible for loan forgiveness and in exchange landlords would receive ten years of tax credits equal to the amount of unpaid rent. the state would assume any financial loss. although the park remains closed, six flags is giving away free reusable masks tomorrow. they are partnering with solano public health to hand out the masks to people in need in the parking lot. the event is 10:00 to noon while supplies last. and since we're talking about amusement and theme parks, another disney park is welcoming

above average highs will continue even though today is our hottest days. most afternoons definitely going to be a long stretch of warm temperatures. heat relief at the coast and the overnight for the rest of us. down in the south bay, we have low to mid 90s this afternoon with san jose at 94 degrees. 93 in brentwood city is the warm spot, everybody either in the mid-80s to low 90s. even mid to upper 70s along the coast today until the sea breeze kicks in late this afternoon. low to mid-80s downtown, sausalito. look at that, 20, 25 degrees wrmer inland, 91 at san rafael and 97 in santa rosa. mid to upper 80s until castro valley, fremont. low 90s there along the east bay shore. and as you move inland, mid to upper 90s, even hotter than yesterday. here is a look at tonight's temperatures. you can see the 50s and 60s under an increasingly high

canopy of clouds. so it will be mild again tomorrow morning. here is a look at the southerly surge. by midnight, clouds are reaching the coast and you can see them pushing into some of our coastal valleys as we head through the morning. that will help ease the heat the most at the coast tomorrow. we could drop nearly 8 degrees around the bay, but only a couple degrees inland as we stay in the 90s just about every day. 70s to near 80 for the bay. have a good one. let's see. twitter is adding a new feature so users can add audio to its tweets. you can record up to 140 seconds. ios users will get the fee dhat in the coming weeks. critics say that it could be difficult to identify hateful content. twitter says that it will review any reported voice tweets and take action if necessary. a lot of people are saying who asked for this, but there it is anyway. and there is a new way to

and we are following breaking news from sky 7. we are over san francisco and we've confirmed that the mountain lion that we've been talking about spotted several times in the city this week has made another appearance. this is near channel between third and fourth street in the mission bay neighborhood. basically right near at&t park. san francisco police con -- i should say oracle park. a mountain lion is apparently just managing around. and sky 7 can see the police response, although i don't think that we've seen the mountain lion just yet. obviously you will want to avoid
