>> nothing unusual there, right? all right, let's jump into the weather because i know you want to get to that mountain lion. hopefully we can find it. here is a look at what is going on outside. live doppler 7 is showing sunshine, so a lack of clouds and wind which means that today will be another warm today. here is a look at east bayhills. 71. in san francisco, about 60 there. today a little milder. coast will warm into the 70s while the rest of us hit the 80s and 90s at noon. back into the mid to upper 80s by 7:00. back to 347b9s lmountain lion w. >> yeah, we're over san francisco right now and we have confirmed that the mountain lion has been spotted several times in the city this week. and it has made another appearance, this time it is near channel between third and foirt
6:01 am
fourth in the mission bay neighborhood. >> and the police did confirm that mountain lion is this area just hanging around. officers wheare on the scene. obviously you'll want to avoid this area. earlier this week it was spotted in russian hill and just outside of our studios. and last night it was spotted in rin con hill. so if we assume that this is the same animal, the lion has been on the move. and adam goldstein is on the phone with us now. you rushed over there. what can you tell us right now? >> so what i can tell you is this, currently there are roughly seven or eight police cars stationed between third and fourth. there has been a barricade set up.
6:02 am
and i can tell you also that the mountain lion has been cornered, animal control is on the scene and you can't see it from the street, the police have it all blocked off. there will be more information coming in in 20 or 30 minutes, how they found it and where it was spotted exactly. and yeah, as of now, that is all i can really tell you. >> well that is a lot, adam. >> yeah, that is. >> we didn't realize that they had the cat basically surrounded. now i'm just really crossing my fingers that we'll be nice to this cat and just take it somewhere where it can live in peace and not be surrounded by us. >> of course. yeah, get it secure and away from humanity and all the cars that take up downtown this morning with the rush hour traffic. hopefully they can get it out of there relatively soon. >> other than law enforcement and yourself, are there any other people around or are
6:03 am
people pretty much staying away? >> there seemed to be a few news crews and a few photographers out there, but, yeah, for the most part, it seems like they are doing a good job of keeping people away from the lion. they instructed me to stay in my car. it doesn't seem safe. we are dealing with a wild animal after all. so, yeah, that is really what is going on out there. and they are doing a good job of making sure people stay at least across the street if not further distance. >> all right. adam, thank you. we did not know that this cat has been cornered and as reggie said, we hope that they can move forward in a safe way. >> definitely. i'll have more updates as they come in. >> thanks, adam. >> adam goldstein coming through with the scoop this morning. really appreciate that. and this is also really close to ucsf, so a lot of people that go
6:04 am
back and forth to the hospital there. but it is so early in the morning that i think that most of the people who live in the new condos and apartments don't even know that this is happening. our helicopter is probably their first clue that something is going on. so if you live in these few blocks, you will want to stay inside until you get the all clear from police. hopefully this month lion is able to safely get out of the neighborhood this morning. i have pinned all my hopes and dreams on this. i don't know why. >> i really hope so too. it is a sweet mountain lion and seems to be lost around the city. >> we have definitely given it a personali personality. we'll continue following this throughout the morning. let's move on now. abc 7 is working to build a better bay area and one thing that we're following closely is the economy. as the bay area starts to reopen for business, we are here to help you navigate the new rules

and new realities. and what is a surprise yesterday when they got the go ahead in san mateo county to essentially open everything that wasn't in before. and julian glover is live with how it all went down. >> good morning. the changes happened quickly in san mateo county, they said enough with the baby steps, they were entering in to phase three. and effective immediately, pretty much all businesses are given the green light to open. this means salons, bars, barber shops, casinos, hotels and indoor dining all clear to reopen. the county health officer made the unexpected change to the health order wednesday. the announcement caught many business owners by surprise likes owners of black and gold barber lounge in daly city. >> the date that they told us was july 13th, so obviously we're trying to get stuff ready. we bought new barber chairs, we've been clearing out our waiting area.
6:06 am
everything is appointment only. >> gyms are also allowed to reopen in san mateo county. and wednesday evening, we caught about a dozen people already back working out in small classes at ready fit in south san francisco. others still decided to join in by zoom. now, nail salons and tattoo parlor, they can reopen in san mateo on friday. the current order does still limit group gatherings to no more than 50 people and it does require that you wear a face mask anytime you are entering a business and also if you are waiting in line outside of a business waiting to get inside. so san mateo county finally in stage three of reopening. i'm julian glover, abc 7 news. >> so few surprises in this story and really got one yesterday. thank you. and it will be a busy few days around the bay area. tomorrow in alameda county, outdoor dining, indoor retail and fitness classes and limited

when we closed our wynn committed instantly to keeping all 15,000 team members on-board. we then focused our five-star level of service to all who needed it. we made improvements to people's lives. we strove to be better and we made people happy. this closure may have temporarily taken us out of wynn and encore, but it couldn't take the wynn and encore out of us. and now, we are proud to welcome you back. breaking news from sky 7, it has been an exciting morning in the mission bay neighborhood as yu can see our helicopter is over the site where a mountain lion has been spotted several times. it has been traveling throughout the city, mostly throughout
6:16 am
downtown san francisco over this past week and we understand that it is cornered right now on channel between third and fourth. police are obviously there blocking off streets. animal control is closer to the mountain lion. so here is new information since our last update. animal control confirms that this is the same mountain lion that was spotted three times this week. first we saw it in it in and then closer to embarcadero and then in rincon hill and now closer to the ballpark. the mountain lion is probably just trying to get out of the city but can't find its way. so animal control has called fish and game to get assistance. they will tranquilize the animal and then take it out of the city. and we are crossing our fingers that it all happens safely for everyone and especially the animal. but it looks like that they have the traffic under control and there is not a lot of people in this part of the city right now.
6:17 am
so everybody is safe. we're just hoping that that mountain lion will calmly, you know, get out of there and hopefully find a nice little spot to just be. >> it is probably so confused right now. had a nice little trip around the city and is ready to go to a more comfortable place. we'll continue tracking that throughout the morning. moving on now, a canadian tesla owner is showing what his electric car can do saying imagine being able to sleep on your road trip while the car keeps driving. >> this going to be a long trip. this is nice. tesla, let's get the trip started. thanks. and away we go. >> trevor demonstrated this self-driving and lounging capabilities of his model 3 on tiktok. he says he wasn't really taking an autonomous journey when he
6:18 am
took this video, it was intended as a fun experiment in the future of self-driving. so it used to be do it for t now it is do it for the tiktok. >> yes. >> either way, don't do this in real life. >> no, please. >> didn't want any of that right now. nope. no thanks. let's take a look at what is going on. it is san jose where we start this degrees under sunshine. grab the sunglasses today. the warmest day of the week likely and driest. the humidity levels are just so dry. we're talking 10% to 20%. total coastal clouds, that means a southerly surge is coming back and that will give us a little relief from the heat. but temperatures even with the morning clouds and the afternoon sunshine will be above average through most of my seven day forecast. let's take a look down in the south bay where we have 91 in
6:19 am
sunnyvale, 94 in san jose, gilroy the warm spot. peninsula, low to mid-90s 88 in hill bremillbrae. low to mid-80s the most comfortable -- most uncomfortable day in downtown, south san francisco and sausalito. low to mid-70s along the north bay coast. but look inland, 91 at san rafa rafael, napa, 95. santa rosa, 97. east bay shore, 87 93 fremont. plenty wo brechbts wo tonight upper 50s as high clouds start to roll in. and midnight we'll start to see clouds near the cost and then they push into some of the coastal valleys through the morning commute tomorrow. you can see the biggest drop in
6:20 am
temperatures about 10 degrees along the coast. about 5 to 8 around the bay and a couple degrees, that is it, be inland. temperatures remain above average with our coolest day being tuesday. have a good one. this morning while we are tracking a big cat roaming around downtown san francisco, we'll check in with ginger stooe to see if there is nick more exciting than that coming up on gma. >> hi, ginger. >> sounds pretty exciting. reggie, liz, hi, great to be with both of you this morning. we do have something pretty big here. john bolton one-on-one with our marsha raddatz, this is all ahead of his bombshell book, the explosive accusations about president trump. of course calling him erratic and foolish. claiming that he asked china to help him win re-election. the interview that you will see only here on gma this morning. also the alarming rise in coronavirus cases around the

6:24 am
grab a box of 15 or try them loaded. get 'em now with no contact delivery. we have an update on the breaking news. this is sky 7 showing you the area that is right near oracle park. this is channel between third and fourth streets. and you can see that police are very close by along with animal control to a mountain lion which has been spotted this morning in the mission bay neighborhood. it was in rincon hill yesterday,
6:25 am
it was on the embarcadero the day before. so it has made several appearances over the past week. and you can see that they have a big net and we saw a cage come out a few minutes ago. so it looks like they may be getting close if they haven't already to their plan of tranquilizing the animal and getting it safely into the van and then out of the city. and after that, we're not sure what happens to the animal, but we're hoping that they take it somewhere where it will be safe and sound. because as liz and i have been discussing, we are pinning all our hopes and dreams on this animal's happiness. we should point out, this animal hasn't done anything to hurt anyone. it has just been wandering around the city. and obviously this morning wantedacle park. >> yeah, a little quarantine fatigue. hopefully it gets to a safe place soon.
6:26 am
and now to an airline confrontation caught on camera, a passenger was forced off a crowded flight after refusing to wear a mask. american airlines just one of several carriers rolling out new requirements for activist and ad he recorded part of the incident. >> i'm being told that it is the law. it is not the law. >> this is american policy. if you do not wear a mask, we'll ask you to come off the aircraft. and i'm asking you not to record. >> i'm sorry that you don't like it, but i don't want to wear a mask. this is insane. we don't even have a choice any more. >> and he says after being kicked off the first flight, he disclosed that he couldn't wear a mask because of a medical condition. he says that he was able to board a second flight without a mask. american says that its team is
6:27 am
reviewing the incident. >> nope. wear a mask. i mean, if there is a medical address, addre issue, address that, but -- wear a mask. >> wear a mask. next at 6:30, we do have the breaking news. sky 7 is continuing to track the effort to capture a mountain lion near oracle park in san francisco. it does appear that they might be making some progress. we'll
6:30 am
things are happening with this mountain lion in san francisco, the mission bay neighborhood. police are surrounding it right now. amy hollyfield is on the phone with us. >> reporter: we just watched them grab him, he is in a net. and it looks liketranquil lized and he has been captured. which is good news for the lion and the city. they believe that he has just been lost and couldn't figure out how to get back where he wanted to be, which they believe is wide open space south of the city. they have told us that they don't think that he is a full grown adult, probably starting to separate from mom.
6:31 am
but he got a little lost and wasn't quite sure what to think here in the city. he has been spotted here all week wandering the streets. and now here we are at fourth and channel, we're next to gus' community market. a lot of police officers here. they roped off the area. they called in fish and game and they have a trap where they will move him into now that they have him and get him out of here and hopefully return him to where he will be much happier. we had a video of him and a biologist said it made her sad because he looked confused and not wanting to be here. so this is a good outcome. it looks like he is safe and on his way out of san francisco.
6:32 am
they had a cage that they had lying out here on the sidewalk ready for him. and as soon as they got him in the net, they put him he is young, not too big yet. they are putting him in the back of the truck right now. >> amazing work that they could do this safely. >> right. and as amy was saying, it is smaller than we originally thought because as amy was saying, it is about 15 months old. the fact that they can fit into that carrier, you can get a better idea of how young the animal is. and i'm just -- i don't know, i
6:33 am
have a soft spot in my heart for this animal for some reason. so i hope that it can live its best life, just maybe not in downtown san francisco. >> reporter: exactly. he is not a hipster, this isn't for him. >> and the rent is very high. >> reporter: exactly. but as far as safety, you know, there were concerns obviously this week, a mountain lion, that is a scary image of a mountain liar on roaming the streets. there was concern that it was scared and just wanted out of here. and of course small pets were a concern. and we did see a man walking his very small dog right in the middle of all of this, so that was a little of an ironic scene for us to be looking at.
6:34 am
you know, that is a problem. the an hal couimal could go aft little guys. but as far as humans, the biologist wasn't too concerned about our safety because he was young and afraid. >> well, good news and a happy ending for sure. >> and they should be off and running with this cat in a few minutes and so that means that they can open traffic again to this part of the city which of course is near the ballpark but also near ucsf and a lot of people work there. but this is quite a show of force this morning for this mountain lion. they want to make sure that this is a safe situation for everyone there. and we're glad that it is. so that wraps up the mountain lion coverage as far as we know. if there is another development, we'll let you know. amy and adam, appreciate you being on the ground.
6:35 am
let's go to weather. mike nicco is standing by. >> on you near honorary mascot. nice to see that they could tranquilize him and relocate him. let's talk about the weather. it is sunny out there, we do not have a marine layer. look at the winds or the lack thereof, the free air conditioning shut off once again as we look from the east bayhills. we're starting off milder except for along the coast where the lack of clouds allowed you to drop into the 40s and low 50s. rest of us 59 to 62. 85 to 90 at noon. 91 to 94 at 4:00. even warmer and some 70s at the coast and sea breeze kicks in and drops you into the 60s while the rest of us are in the 80s at 7:00. we'll see how long this warmth lasts coming up in the 7 day forecast.
6:36 am
and moving on, walnut creek police say about 200 back bl"bl lves matter" protesters remained peaceful last night. you can see that they were demonstrating in front of the mayor's home. they marched to her house from heather farm park. there is video of what appears to be a burning of a of bl blue matter flag. they ended the gln administrati demonstrations just after 11:00 last night. no arrests were reported. a amy hollyfield gave us an update and they say that it did remain peaceful. and macy's a boarded up this morning. police had warned that they were monitoring potential looting and urged business owners to take precaution. and there have been no reports of looting. and in the north bay, demonstrators blocked a road
6:37 am
that has become a source of controversy. it is the sir francis drake boulevard ramp. and more than 5800 people signed a petition to rename the boulevard because of drake's connection to the slave trade. they also want a 30-foot tall sculpture removed. police kept an eye on things and the protest ere protesters bloc for only a short time. and support in oakland after a rope described by some as a noose was found in a tree. people have left messages of love and unity on that tree. a woman who saw the reason in the tree thought it looked like a noose and posted her concern on social media. oakland mayor is calling for a hate crime investigation. >> the intentions will matter with regard to whether or not this is prosecuted as a hate crime, but intentions don't matter when it comes to terrorizing the public. >> abc 7 talked to the man who helped install the reasons.
6:38 am
6:41 am
sky 7 is live over the mission bay neighborhood in san francisco after a mountain lion was captured just a few minutes ago. it has been seen in several locations around fran over this past week including right next to abc 7 studios. no one got hurt and the mountain lion is in that white cage in the back of the pickup truck. and we don't know where it will go, but we think that it will be going back to the peninsula where we believe it came from.
6:42 am
amy hollyfield has been on the scene. and what else do we know? >> reporter: i want to show you the video of him being captured. they are wrapping up the scene here, but this is where they cornered him. we had police officers involved along with officers from the fish and game department. he had kind of nestled up near r plantar where he was confused and obviously lost. they tranquilized him and then used a net to capture him. so he has been caught and he has been loaded up into the back of a trucknd he wi a truck and he will be taken out to much more familiar territory for him. but this mountain lion has been spotted a few times this week roaming the city streets. we captured him in our parking lot and the spotted in russian hill. a biologist told us that he
6:43 am
looked young, said that he looked nervous and confused. and she was hoping that he would find his way back to where he came from, which she suspects is probably south of the city. however, it looks like that was not the case because here we are thursday morning and he is still here. and it was time officials decided to get him out of here. it was interesting to watch police respond, city police officers who are not used to dealing with this. some of them had their ar rifles drawn. i asked the officer about that, and he said that they are more of an accurate shot than the small pistols that they have. but they have that out just in case this situation went sideways and turned dangerous. it did not. they were able to peacefully get him captured, get him in the right hands so he can get out of here. in san francisco, we're near the ballpark, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. and on the phone we have czar mcdonald from the puma
6:44 am
project to talk to us a little bit more. as amy was saying, we believe that it is a juvenile cat. do we think it got lost from its mom? >> hi, yeah, we think that this cat came -- was separated from a family group just south of the city around just the watershed area. so in much nicer lands than where it ended up. so clearly it was its first visit to the city and it did not know how to get out. >> and my concern now is what happens to this cat, it is obviously a young and beautiful animal and it didn't do any harm while in san francisco. typically what would happen to an animal like this who has been so close to humans over this past week? >> nothing really. that accoucat had no interactio with humans, they are programmed
6:45 am
genetically obviously to stay away from humans. so that is really why i ended up putting himself in a plantar and trying to get and rest when the city was active during the day. however, it makes sense that it had a hard time finding its way back to natural spaces south of the city because the city is a maze. and the cat is young, 14 months. that is still a time when these cats are with mom and learning how to navigate the world before they leave. so it is likely that he still needs a little bit of that traini training. and i think the likelihood is that it is good that they didn't u use drugs because drugs or tranquilizers can be potentially dangerous to a small animal. so netting it was a good way to go. and hopefully this cat will just be released and be able to
6:46 am
reunite south of the city. >> how likely do you think it is that this cat will be able to find his family? >> pretty likely if he is put, you know, into that similar area. because the family group itself has been seen pretty regularly in that area. so i think that he probably just took a wrong turn or -- who knows. there is a number of reasons why he ended up north. maybe chasing deer or a prey item. but the good thing is if he can get back and find them, i think there is a strong chance that he can make it and, you know, stay in the right spot. >> i'll happy to hear that. >> me too. and we are seeing it drive away. do you think that it is heading
6:47 am
down to the peninsula? >> yeah, i do. and i think the other thing people should think about is that this is highly unlikely. and with the millions of people living in the area throughout california, especially the bay area which is a huge population, we do have mountain lions, you know, in the vicinity. and they mostly live in the wild lands. and it is incredibly rare that this happens. and the cats are really doing a great job of avoiding humans. they really don't run into these troubles. . and when it does happen, it is always a young animal that is still learning its way. so he is not looking for people, they are not talking people, they are just basically lost. and he was lost and that is how it played out. so hopefully it ends well. >> we appreciate your expertise. and i think that we can all remember being young and lost at one point.
6:48 am
so hopefully it will be reunited with mom and family in a little bit. you gave us hope that that could very well likely happen. czar mcdonald, again, thank you. >> thank you. now we'll bring in mike nicco and talk to him about our day ahead. >> i can't wait to see it get reunites with its family. we have nine. 60 at the exploratorium. this is one of the warmest days this week and one with the loes humidity so you combine the lack of a sea breeze, lack of clouds and dry air and all the sunshine, that is why temperatures will be warm. above average for most afternoons all the way through the seven day forecast. if you want heat rerelief, it i at the coast.
6:49 am
61 at the bay bridge toll plaza. we'll have breezy conditions north of the bay bridge during the evening commute. 84 in millbrae to 93 in redwood city, and look at the low to upper 70s along the coast. low to mid-80s downtown, south san francisco, 91 to about 97 through the north bay valleys. along the east bay shore, richmond 84, oakland 87, fremont 93. 99 in brentwood. tonight most of us fall back into the 50s with some high clouds. as we head to midnight and through tomorrow morning, you can see the marine layer and the free ac return to the coast. temperatures up to 10 degrees cooler there tomorrow. it will be in the 90s just about every day inland. upper 70s to low 80s around the bay, but 60s at the coast.
6:50 am
have a great day. state lawmakers are set to vote on a bill to help people who lost their jobs during the pandemic. if passed, landlords must attempt to work out a deal with the tenant before eviction. renters would have ten years starting in 2024 to pay back unpaid rent. they may also be eligible for loan forgiveness and in exchange landlords would receive ten years of tax credits equal to the amount of unpaid rent. the state would assume any financial loss. coming up next, 7 things that you need to know. but first, abc 7 is celebrating the class of gone.
