if you watched this video you can sigh that even that car that drove on the grass to get around en off. hundreds of people had been out there celebrating juneteenth. a similar scene in hunters point. people say they heard this overnight. there have been lots of fireworks in the past couple of weeks. but there really seemed to be a significant increase last night. and now for the developing news with the latest on the monuments and statues that are being torn down across the country. this morning three more in san francisco are now torn down and marked with red paint. this monument being pulled to the ground. established the california missions and is accused of

committing atrocities against native americans. a statue of francis scott key was also torn down. a composure of our national anthem who is a known slave holder. a bust of down. and of course all of this is coming on an especially important juneteenth this year. thousands across the bay area turned out for the celebration marking the end of slavery in the u.s. in the east bay people gathered in oakland's lake merritt for music, art and voter regist pooth. and also followed a activist march in oakland. hundreds in

marched. >> we have now a national movement and a national awakening to way racism and injustice are baked into our society at all levels sko many people are waking up to that. >> san francisco usually celebrates juneteenth with a parade through western edition but it was canceled this ye because of of the pandemic. in the south bay we were there for a youth organized march in san jose. this drew thousands of people fighting for racial justice all culminating a the olympic black power statue at san jose state. chris reyes talked to those who marchand. ♪ >> reporter: 16-year-old phoenix singing her heart out. another student speaking her heart out. >> and i felt that these human rights issues -- >> reporter: the woman who brought them all together created the youth group brave space, a platform for students age 12-24 to speak out against .

together they organized this march but had no idea the turn out would be so big. >> 37 kids shoeds up in my living room. the students took that and ran with it. santa clara university to san jose state university. all races, all ages, all afternoon. >> george floyd was probably like a breaking point for a lot of people. >> some of the marchers also stopped at san jose city hall where those driving or just walking by honked their support. >> it feels good. like anybody voting for black lives matter. >> for others in the crowd showed upped at allies, all too familiar with the discrimination that their black friends face every day. >> as a white person, i do have the privilge to be able to come in these areas and feel safe. while a lot of my friends who are black do not have that same privilege. >> i wasn't even taught who juneteenth was. i just learned what it was this year. >> reporter: that is why for her and her students at brave space

marches to come. >> it is 155 years later from the last person being told they are free. and we are still marching against systemic racism. >> reporter: in san jose, chris reyes for abc7 news. >> and juneteenth the marchs and celebrations all over the country. atlanta, new york city. d.c. the soumpb o seaside out of monterey to name a few. big and small across the country. new york city's mayor announced juneteenth will be a city observed holiday starting next year. and abc7 news anchor and colleague co-host ad jat with national geographic's rachel jones on the history of juneteenth. they say this year it has become much more than a celebration. >> people are using it as a rally for different events. it is not the typical barbecue festival vibe that we've seen in years past. and in washington, d.c. i know are seeing something similar.

ace. lauren martinez explains how businesses are more than ready to meet the challenge. >> it will be a dining room, outside. >> reporter: the city of oakland is waiving fees and streamlining the permitting process, allowing businesses to expand on to sidewalks and parking spaces all while complying with the shelter in place order. >> it is a nice relief, summer after being sequestered since march 16th. >> the flux streets initiative allows restaurants to use larger areas of sidewalk and parking space for outdoor dining. >> it is a lifesaver. like i -- you can't keep doing to gos and make it. >> reporter: he plans on getting better barriers for people eating outside and possibly even adding another tent. >> i love this view. >> reporter: friday night was the first night reopened for outdoor dining.

the city plans to open in phases, with sidewalk and parking lots and then extending on to some streets and parking lots. >> for the street you can put wedding tents up and put some 250 pound barradpl but t give more of an open feel. >> reporter: the city supporting business recovery. diners we spoekd to said they are eating out the to support local restaurants. and when we asked if it feels weird to eat in a parking space? >> of course. but i mean 20 is a wash. you know, we're starting from scratch. this is ground zero for 2020. the new reality of what we're doing now. >> in oakland, lauren martinez, abc7 use. and in the north bay the first weekend several more businesses are now allowed to reopen. in sonoma county. nail salons, gym, tattoo parlors, movie theaters, campgrounds, museums and mini golf can all resume with proper

safety protocols. in napa, movie theaters, gyms, personal care stoods. also nail salons and personal care services. also in the north bay, marin county just set a new day for reopening certain businesses. here is list of when things can start reopening on june 29 in marin. hair salon, barbershops, hotels, restaurants and gyms. schools can resume classes. businesses just have to make health guidelines in order to reopen. in contra costa they are now off the state's list for worsening coronavirus cases. landed on the list this week due to a spike is in hospitalizations after more businesses were allowed to reopen. as of last night it's now met the threshold for stable hospitalizations again. the county plans to lott indoor dining,s a mie theaters to reopen on july 1st.

a checks of the weather now with lisa. where is 12020 going? how is it already summer? >> well it is kind of good. . let's just get through the year yeah maybe the second half of the year will be better than the first half. yeah. well we do have a summer to look forward to. it right center at 2:43. the summer solstice. and usually it is the longest day of the yore but actually tomorrow our sun sets at 8:35. today it is 8:34 so somewhere around june 21st, 22nd is the longest day of the year and we are looking at pretty typical weather for the bay area. a look at live doppler 7, you can see the low cloud deck hugging the close line from sonoma to marin. san mateo and through the central coast. so we're looking at a system to the north and that is allowing for temperatures to be in a range from about 60 to 90. which is a little bit above average. but once the system moves to the east, then the upper level ridge of high pressure can really build in. and that is going to bring more

heat. so this system keeping us a little cool with that steady on shore floe. and you can see it here. the low cloud deck from santa cruz where it is 55 right now. highs in the low 70s and looking locally at mid 60s in mount view. 61 san jose. 55 downtown. half moon bay as well. gilroy up to 60 degrees. a look at the airport in san jose. and temperatures are in the 60s. most areas in our inland valleys. cooler this morning by about four or five degrees and numbers in the north bay in the low fifties. beautiful view from the camera. we were socked in with the low clouds and fog but it is beginning to lift and erode. still clouds closer to pacifica with spotty drizzle. otherwise it is about summer today and fathers day tomorrow and the look ahead is looking at a lot ofea well above normal. even though today with all that cloud cover we're still going to be above normal. as we go through the next

finally a little bit of a cool down in the inland valleys and really typical throughout the day today with a dose of low clouds and fog. steady on shore push and that persistent marine layer allowing for temperatures to stay rather cool around the bay early on but then we'll warm up. the flags you can see blowing there. where should we be this time of year? first day of summer and certainly should be in the 80s but we're going to be upper .0ed in parts of the bayth santa rosa, are 82. concord 87. you should be about 83. oakland mid 70s. few degrees above average. peninsula upper 70s and san jose you are six degrees warmer and san francisco a few degrees cooler. so it all depends on the ebb and flow of the low cloud deck. and you can see from our roof camera here that not only do we need some new flags there. but we continue so see about a 10-15 miles an hour breeze here. and throughout the day today ert going to go away altogether.
