"the chronicle" is reporting that the county health department reported more than 6,000 cases of last night and the previous record was 4,415. governor newsom warns the state could revert back to a strict

stay-at-home order if there is a dramatic surge in coronavirus cases. california recorded more than a quarter of total confirmed cases in the last two weeks. that's when reopening expanded in too many communities. san francisco plans to speed up its re pe salons, nail salons and tattoo parlors welcome back customers starting on monday. museums and zoos can also reopen with state approval. san francisco also wants to let outdoor bars and outdoor swimming pools open again. state leaders say they are confident they will get the okay from sacramento. as businesses begin to reopen in the bay area, we have a really handy resource that could help you keep track of what's open and where. this interactive map on our website abc7news.com. a story we brought you yesterday, san jose police released servileance video of a woman who is accused of

intentionally coughing on a toddler. the woman approaches and pulls down her mask and then coughs in the baby's direction. the incident happened friday. police say that the woman was upset because she felt the mom wasn't maintaining proper social distancing. but now this woman could face assault charges. happening today, a package of new policies aimed at reducing police violence in santa clara will be up for a vote. according to the "mountain view voice" it will res have their use of force policies and ban the hiring of officers with a history of excessiorelimatf the of rubber bullets. the board is expected to vote on the changes later this morning. this comes a day after county supervisors declared racism a public health crisis. the declaration includes an 11-point action plan and includes training elected officials and staff on workplace bias and promoting policies that

can de-escalate the toughest of situations. >> when you know students and you can call by name, they stop fighting. >> they would never get there in time for a school shooter. thathe year. in oakland, j.r. stone, abc7 news. family and friends will gather today for the funeral of rayshard brooks. he was the man shot dead in a wendy's parking lot by an atlanta police officer. this is video from his public viewing yesterday. officers were responding to a call earlier this month about brooks who had fallen asleep in his car in the drive-through. brooks was running away with an officer's taser when an offense shoots him from behind. the same place where dr. martin luther king jr. was mourned. at the live desk, i am following protests in washington, d.c., over a statue

of andrew jackson. what we're learning this morning is that police and demonstrators clashed last night in lafayette park. protesters tried to take down the statue with chains and ropes. police and riot gear moved in to protect it. critics say jackson is tied to slave ownership and the eviction of native americans. >> a public reminder of the native american holocaust and, also, of the black american holocaust of slavery. that's what andrew jackson represented. >> president trump responded to the protests on twitter. he threatened ten years in prison for the, quote, numerous arrests made calling efforts to topple the statue, quote, disgraceful vandalism of the magnificent statue. another statue was damaged yesterday in jacksonville, florida. kumasi? >> thank you, thousands of hospitality

workers are worried they won't have jobs to go back to. the long wait is over for first-time drivers who have been trying to get a license. behind the wheel tests are back, but there will be some big changes. but, first, checking in with mike for our forecast today on this tuesday. what should we expect for the day? >> well, we're going to have a summer spread again with morning clouds, afternoon sunshine. kind of a typical summer pattern. just a little bit warmer than average once you get away from that marine layer which is about 1,800 feet deep which means it will mainly stay locked into the bay. temperatures along the east bay shore. richmond at 56 and same thing at castro valley on the cool side and most of us in the upper 60s and upper 50s, excuse me. mid to upper 50s in many other areas and 62 in mountain view and pleasant hill, fairfield 60 and we've got 61 in brentwood and 65 in antioch for the warm spot. as far as the commute, you can see the clouds there as we look from the bay bridge toll plaza. this time we're looking to the east.

republicans after students for trump event. he says he is not worried at all when it comes to coronavirus cases spiking in the state, which is now at nearly 55,000. the mayor of phoenix is calling on the president to set an example and wear a mask. by requesting tickets to the event, trump supporters are agreeing not to hold the organizers' libel if they become infected with covid-19. behind the wheel driving tests are restarting at california dmvs on friday. the tests were suspended in mid-march. fce masks will be required at all times and customers will be screened beforehand. at least two of the car windows need to be lowered and examiners will use plastic seat covers. the dmv will reschedule all the tests that it had to cancel and expects to take several weeks to get all the way caught up. new tests with ilnot be available until the rescheduled tests are completed.

in oakland hospitality workers are asking for city officials to give priority to those who have been laid off from their jobs. jobs and unemployment are a big part of the economy which is one of the areas we're focused on as we work to build a better bay area. spoke with several workers who say they just need some hope to survive. >> one day longer. >> reporter: behind the chants, the honking of this vehicle caravan are the stories of hospitality workers asking for help. it's been three months since thousands of them were laid off and they feel like no one is listening. >> everything goes by and my thought is when. when do i get to go pack to work? >> reporter: the same thought goes through, alana's house mind. she has to explain to her kids why their food portions are getting smaller.

in oakland luz pena. the response unit in menlo park was taken out of service. they were responsible for decontaminating every scene it responded to but the unit has been responding to fewer calls and going back to more areas that are seeing more encampment and firework related issues. reusable bags are about to make a return, too. suspending the bag ban will expire this week. but if you use your own bag, be prepared to bag your own groceries. the stores will not allow store employees or other customers to come into contact with your bag. i'm okay with that. >> yeah. yeah. i was getting way too many. it was just going -- just creating more and more trash or more and more recycling. i mean there's only so many issues you can use for those
