so, benicia bridge, carquinez bridge and the golden gate bridge a little breezy this morning. here's a look from sutro tower, sun rise this morning and the marine layer is a little more compressed than it was yesterday. hopefully you get a little more sunshine if that's what you want. at the coast we'll hang out near 60 during your planner and 76 to 84 with that sunshine around the bay and inland. 82 to 91. warm to hot at 4:00 and getting more comfortable at 7:00. 75 to 82. i'm going to send it back to reggie now. >> mike, thank you. president trump has signed a new ban on foreign workers here in the u.s. that ban includes a number of visas including the h1b visas used by tech companies. the administration says the ban will open up more than half a million jobs for americans out of work during the pandemic but others worry this will slow job creation in silicon valley. amy hollyfield live in san mateo with reaction from tech leaders

this morning. amy? >> not good. the ceo of this company here says if silicon valley can't hi hire, he believes the will get left behind. he says this is a big deal. he says his health tech company uses they use it to hire scientists and engineers. president trump signed an executive order to sign a ban on green cards issued outside of the united states until the end of the year. he is doing it to free up jobs for americans. silicon valley leaders think the move is political in an election year. a professor at san jose state told us he is worried this will cause our tech industry to lose talent to other countries. >> we've seen canadian entrepreneurial centers being pretty competitive with silicon valley. the chinese and the indians both want to have their entrepreneurial centers be the centers of the future. >> the silicon valley leadership

group says foreign born workers make up 60% of all tech workers in silicon valley. the ban is temporary. keep it in place until the end of the year. reporting live in san mateo, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. governor newsom is addressing the record high number of covid cases now. he says more than 46,000 californians tested positive in just the past two weeks. that's more than a quarter of all the known cases since march. and hospitalizations are up, too. 16%. >> despite an increase in hospitalizations, despite an increase in total number of icu patients, our capacity remains fairly stable. >> a uc berkeley professor says the number of cases is bound to rise as more businesses reopen and he says we all need to be careful when we go back into society. >> if i decide to take a risk and i get infected, i can spread that virus to other people who

may have decided they didn't want to take the risk. >> in san francisco, salons, barbershops and outdoor bars could open as soon as monday. and happening today, a warning on capitol hill. the nation's top health experts including dr. anthony fauci will testify on the dangers of coronavirus. their prepared statements say covid-19 activity will continue for some time and if there is covid-19 and flu activity at the same time, this could place a tremendous burden on the health care system. the number of cases is rising in 23 states and puerto rico. a middle school in san jose is back eopen after months of being closed because of coronavirus. sunrise middle school reopened classrooms for summer school and no more than 12 students will be allowed in each school's summer program includes field trips and outdoor activities but students will be kept inside fortheir ha

their meals in the classroom. four schools in san francisco could be renamed because their namesakes are now under scrutiny. you can see them right here on the map. junipero serra elementary and george washington high school and john muir which may be renamed for literary icon maya angelou who became the city's first street car conductor and francis scott key. a change could be filed at a school board meeting next month. the sonoma county sheriff's office is investigating after a possible noose was found at the sonoma raceway. an employee discovered it hanging from a tree saturday. staff immediately notified law banned to move the confederate flag from all its racing events. nascar is coming together to support a driver after a similar

incident happened sunday. someone put a noose in the garage stall of driver bubba wallace. it happened at the talladega speedway in alabama. he is the black nascar driver who pushed for the absolutely disgusting. and i was very, very mad about it. everyone was. but i thought today with everyone showing their support, not only drivers, crew members and fans were awesome in showing their support to bubba and everyone who has been oppressed. >> drivers painted i stand with bubba in the grass. richard petty who hasn't been at a race since quarantine decided he had to be there. every single driver and crew member walked to the finish line and stood behind wallace during the national anthem. bubba wallace a guest on "the view" today right here on abc7. tensions high in the sky. another passenger removed from a flight for refusing to wear a mask as other passengers are looking on. and restrictions easing

l morning. threatening a family wearing a black lives matter shirt is scheduled to appear in court today. steve was arrested last week on felony threat and hate crime charges. the family says they were eating at a burlingame restaurant after attending a protest when he threatened to shoot them. he posted $150,000 bail and is set to be arraigned this morning. well, police officers removed a man from a frontier airlines flight at lax because he refused to wear a mask. the airline says the passenger did not comply with repeated instructions from crew members. several la officers were called in to escort the man off the plane. frontier requires aea wth're ng. travelers at lax will start seeing thermal imaging cameras and those cameras allow staff to

check a person's temperature as soon as they walk into the building. within seconds it sends an alert if someone has a higher than average temperature and that person will be sent to a secondary screening. >> you want them to take people's temperatures. >> we want to make sure everybody's fine. >> i feel a lot more safe. airports have never really been like that clean and nice and i feel like now they're hand sanitizing and everyone is wearing masks i feel safe traveling. >> so, the plan is to have all the cameras in operation as we head into the summer travel season. there's no word yet if any bay area airports will install these cameras. and, reggie, when i was in florida this week, they had one of those thermal imaging cameras for us to go visit a hotel. they were like, you stand right here and they were like, put your face in there and you have to make sure your face is in there and it scans you to make sure that your temperature is within range. so, i could see -- >> all i heard you say fountain blue, did you say anything else

see it's above the sun rise and kind of rinse and repeat just like yesterday. heat relief will hit us this weekend. here's a look at your fog forecast and look how quickly it retreats back to the coast where we'll see more sunshine than we did yesterday. here's a look at our temperatures. we'll start down in the south bay. 90 in los gatos and most of us in the mid to upper 80s. palo aalto at 80. low to mid 60s along the coast and downtown and sausalito with a little more sunshine and bodaga bay and breezes will keep up in the 70s to low 80 low 70 look at that richmond and berkeley and near 80 for the rest of the east bay shore and the hottest temperatures will be a low to mid 90s in the east bay valleys. let's take a look at tonight where we'll hang out in the mid to upper 50s with cloud cover and pretty much the same areas as this morning.

moving forward. now an abc7 news live desk update. the polls are now open in kentucky, new york and virginia for their primary elections and here at the live desk, i'm looking very closely at a race going on in kentucky. democrats are set to elect the candidate who will try to unseat senate majority leader mitch mcconnell. top contenders include amy mcgraph backed by the party establishment and charles booker who has progressive support. high voter turnout is expected especially in light of black lives matter protest who becomes the democratic nominee could come down to how the candidates have responded to the protests. >> this moment is helping to show standing up for regular folks is not radical. it's good public policy.

>> have you been on the ground in louisville with the protesters the last three days or lexington or else where, ms. mcgrath? >> i have not. >> and why? >> well, i've been with my family and i had some family things going on this past weekend. >> just three months ago, police in louisville, kentucky, shot and killed breonna taylor during an attempted drug sting. she was struck by bullets at least eight times. her death led to citywide bans on no-knock warrants. they have been calling her name along george floyd's name during these demonstrations. also while we're talking about the kentucky primary and the city where breonna taylor was killed, louisville, kentucky, only one polling location open today. that city has a population of roughly 600,000 people. kumasi? >> all right, thank you for those updates. the price of wisconsin cheese has hit a 100-year high because of coronavirus. the wisconsin cheese makers association says suppliers cut production over the past several months since a lot of restaurants closed. but now that restaurants are opening back up, they are selling out of many cheeses, especially cheddar.

says he has tested positive for coronavirus. novak djokovic, excuse me, released a statement saying he and his wife have tested positive. they're going to be in self-isolation for the next 14 days. this all comes after djokovic sparked controversy by organizing a tennis match in croatia where big crowds showed up. hugging, high fives and even parties. djokovic also questioned the need for an eventual coronavirus vaccine and he's been critical of plans made by the u.s. open to help limit the spread of the virus saying that she wasn't sue he wanted to play tennis with all those rules in place. happening today, you could get a free covid-19 test at the sap center. and you won't have to make an appointment or even have any symptoms. since this is the home of the sharks, they're throwing in a few extras to get as many people tested as possible. julian glover is live in san jose with more on this. julian. >> hey, good morning, kumasi. the first time in a long time that the sap center is seeing a

sizable crowd of people funneling inside and that's when county health officials will be welcoming up to 1,000 people to walk in and walk in to the sap center and get a free covid-19 test. this will run through saturday and the goal is to really get people who are showing symptoms righat t viru befor it continues to spread. again, santa clara county officials and the san jose sharks teaming up together to make this happen. as you mentioned earlier, even sharkie the team's mascot was here to show that testing is quick and painless. county leaders want everyone who comes in contact with others to often come out and get tested and that is really more of us as the bay area continues to reopen. >> it's going to be convenient and it's going to be easy. you don't need an appointment. and it's free. and as long as you don't have symptoms, so, don't be sick and just come on over and we're going to be able to test you. >> as you heard from cindy chavez, no appointments needed to get tested and also 100% free

and available regardless of immigration status. we told you it starts today. here are the hours. kicks off at 1:00 p.m. today and runs through 7:00 p.m. those are the hours through friday and open back up on saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. there are currently 57 covid-19 testing sites across santa clara county including this one. santa clara county still leads the bay area in the number of covid-19 deaths. just trailing alameda county and the number of confirmed cases so that is why this getting tested right here at the sap stis so important. if you're in san jose, come walk in and get tested today. reporting live in downtown san jose, i'm julian glover, abc7 news. california has shattered its record for most new coronavirus cases in a single day. "the chronicle" is reporting that county health departments reported more than 6,000 new cases as of last night. the previous record was 4,415. governor newsom warns that the state could revert back to a strict stay-at-home order if

there is a dramatic surge in coronavirus. he says california recorded more than a quarter of total confirmed cases in just the last two weeks. and that's when reopening expanded in many communities. san francisco is planning to speed up its reopening plans pup the city is asking the state for permission to let hair salons, nail salons and tattoo parlors welcome back customers on monday. museums and zoos can also reopen with state approval. state officials want outdoor bars and outdoor swimming pools reopen. city leaders say they are confident that they will get the okay from sacramento. as businesses start to reopen in the bay area, we have a handy resource to help you keep track of what's open and where. you'll find this interactive map on our website, abc7news.com. president trump will be in arizona for another indoor rally today. he'll travel to yuma this morning to visit the border wall. then he'll go to phoenix to speak at the students for trump event. he says he's not worried at all when it comes to coronavirus

cases spiking in the state which is now at nearly 55,000. the mayor of phoenix is calling on the president to set an example and wear a mask. family and friends will gather today for the funeral of rayshard brooks. the man who was shot dead in a wendy's parking lot by an atlanta police officer. this is video from his. ublic vi public viewing yesterday. officers were responding to brooks asleep in his car in the drive-thru. he was running away from his officer's taser when the officer shot him from behind. his funeral held at the historic ebenezer baptist church the same place martin luther king jr. preached. the school board is set to vote on the measure to the school district's police department. >> we don't need no cops. >> teachers joined a protest outside the school district headquarters yesterday calling for an end to police in schools.

let's take a look from sutro tower. the marine layer more compressed than it was yesterday. expect plenty of sunshine around the bay and a little sunshine at the coast where you'll stay at 60. for our bay and inland temperatures at noon. 82 to 91. still pretty warm to hot. we have the sea breeze that will keep us from getting overly hot except for in solano county all the way through saturday solano county and lake and mendicino county. look at those 100s through the central valley to palm springs. >> all right. thank you, mike. well, san jose police want to find the woman who's accused of intentionally coughing on a toddler at yogurtland. look at this surveillance video that police released. if you look on the right side of your screen, the woman approaches, pulls down her mask and then coughs in the baby's direction. this happened on friday. police say that the woman was upset because she felt like the mom wasn't maintaining proper social distancing but now this

woman could face assault charges. jobina? >> thank you, kumasi. at the live desk, i'm following demonstrations and protests, really, over a statue of andrew jackson in washington, d.c. police and protesters clashed last night in lafayette park. protesters tried to take down the statue of the former president wi and ropes. police in riot gear moved tine protect it. jackson is tied to slave ownership and the conviction of native americans. >> the public reminder of the native american holocaust and also of the black american holocaust of slavery. that's what andrew jackson represented. >> president trump responded to the protests on twitter and threatened ten years in prison for the numerous arrests made calling efforts to topple the statue disgraceful vandalism of a magnificent statue. another statue of jackson was vandalized yesterday
