i did reach out to the oakland police department who has struggled at times with responding to calls. they would only say that they will continue to provide securities to all of the community. jr stone, abc 7 news. and in north bay, the napa police department says that it will limit the use of carotid restraints better thknown as che holds oig. officers will only use it in a deadly force situation. earlier this month, vallejo and daly city police said that they would no longer use chokeholds. leaders in one bay area county are pushing for punishment if you do not wear a mask. san mateo county supervisor suggested that people face a fine for not wearing one in public. amy hollyfield is live with more on this. >> reporter: yeah, isn't this getting interesting. we have county government now saying to the state we'd like to see you take this one step further. you need to do more. so county supervisor david

people will die from the virus in the month of july. and that really has a lot of government officials concerned. jobina fortson has a look at the situation. >> yes, it really is devastating. so the u.s. reported nearly 35,000 new cases yesterday. that is the biggest junch in months and alsole t the third highest single day increase that we've seen. so florida reported a record 5,000 new cases. the state was slow to close businesses and quick to reopen. and in new orleans, half of the city's new cases involve people under 30, new york, new jersey and connecticut now playing defense. >> people coming in from states that have a high infection rate must quarantine for 14 days. you can violate the quarantine until you get caught. and then when you get caught, you are in mandatory quarantine

good morning, everyone. things are looking great on our roads this morning. i was following a couple road construction projects, but those have been picked up early as well. so we'll take a live look showing you the san mateo bridge. probably one of our busiest spots at 4:38 this morning. so you can see the traffic is already picking up for people making their way towards the peninsula. if you are headed east, it is pretty quiet. i'll of course keep you posted if that changes.

and then sunshine bay and inland, clouds clinging to the coast. here is a look at the heat advisory, it is expanding, but you can see where the localized sea breeze is keeping the coast like monterey, even so cal low to mid-70s. but thunderstorms in the sierra again. the trial for two bay area college students accused of murdering an italian police officer is under way again. it had been delayed because of coronavirus. finnegan elder and gabriel york are accused of killing an undercover police officer in rome last summer. it happened after a drug deal gone bad. the men say they thought the officer and his partner were thugs coming for them after they stole a backpack. and they say they acted in self-defense.

police in san pablo, richmond and el cerrito are joining forces to tackle the problem of illegal fireworks. police are dealing with an 81% increase in fireworks calls. richmo richmond's chief says police face growing challenges. >> with whole defunding of the police department, there is an argument of should the police department be responding to fireworks. i say ybecause it is having an in-pa impact on the community. >> and richmond is offering a reward for tips that lead them to people using or selling them. and tomorrow morning, las vegas visitors and residents will be required to wear face coverings when they are indoors at a public place. yesterday nevada's governor announced the mandate that applies to the whole state because they have seen a spike in coronavirus cases. clark county where las vegas is located has had 2100 cases

advisory. it continues for lake and mendocino counties from noon to about 10:00 tomorrow evening. so a pretty long time. and until saturday it continues with a risk of heat illness in solano county. 69 in fran, 76 san francisco, 7 and mid and upper 90s in the east bay valleys. well, it is essential worker week in san francisco. mayor breed visited businesses in the city of north beach neighborhood where essential workers have been keeping things up and running ever since the stay-at-home order took effect. the mayor visited a nature shop and cole hardware and workers received a special certificate of honor. >> i want to present this certificate to essential workers which you are and everybody who works at cole hardware on behalf of the city and county of san francisco. thank you so much for your service.
