good morning, america. it's our second hour, and happening right now, as the coronavirus crisis continues, a country grappling with infections and hospitalizations. florida recording its most new cases in one day. the governor of texas closing the bars. and arizona hospitals activating surge plans. what we're learning right here this morning. amid the pandemic, trump's disapproval rating rises in a new poll. meanwhile, the wasitfifing in weeks. >> we're seeing more and more young people under the age of 35 who are testing positive. in many cases they have no symptoms. >> everything you need to know. ♪ baby love ♪ my baby love after one woman's struggle with infertility, her 51-year-old mom is now carrying

school is out. treats are in. maya feller is breaking down her recipes for guilt-free summer desserts. i am keenly interested in that. >> same. >> however, in the cold open to this, they showed pictures of an ice cream with chocolate pouring over it. i have a sense that's not what she had in mind. >> that's what i ate all in the past week. >> healthy desserts is what she's showing us. this morning we actually get to taste some which i'm quite excited about as well. first, though, the major news, america is now dealing with three straight days of record high totals of new coronavirus cases. the daily number of confirmed infections reaching more than 45,000. two of the largest states, texas and florida, now reversing course and reinstating restrictions. and vice president mike pence held his first coronavirus task force briefing in nearly two months on friday. the vice president optimistic saying, we have made remarkable progress while leading health experts made a plea to americans begging for everyone to social distance, wash your hands and wear masks. >> wear your masks. and this surge in cases has also

seen a rise in the number of young people infected. for more on that, wer'e going to turn to trevor ault who is in atlanta. trevor, good morning to you. >> reporter: well, dan, good morning. you know, we're seeing that surge popping up in several spots around the country. multiple major areas that are logging increases in cases, hospitalizations and deaths to the point now we're seeing cities and states start to reinstitute restrictions they had lifted to try to stop this spread. this morning, coronavirus cases surging in parts of the united states. the country logging three straight days of record high totals as the death toll rises above 125,000. despite those figures, vice president mike pence touted what he called encouraging news the u.s. was opening safely. >> we have made truly remarkable progress. >> reporter: dr. anthony fauci warned the u.s. will be seeing more deaths. again, urging people to social distance and wear masks. >> we've got to realize that we are part of the process.

>> reporter: florida reporting a staggering 8,900 cases friday, governor ron desantis waved it off as a test dump and says he will not mandate wearing masks. but in miami the mayor is now requiring masks and bars there and across the state are now closed. texas bars have met the same fate. part of a state-wide re-opening reversal. in harris county, home of houston, officials have instituted a code red threat level urging everyone only to leave home for groceries or medicine. in arizona, several bars and restaurants are electing to close to keep crowds away, and multiple hospital systems are activating their surge plans. in california, hospitalizations, icu admissions and deaths were all up on friday. miamimar making it mandatory to wear your mask every time you leave the house, and the latest abc news/ipsos poll shows the majority of americans are wearing their masks, but now several months into this pandemic, the number of

americans who are concerned about contracting this virus is on the rise. whit. >> all right, trevor, our thanks to you. and amid this time of crisis president trump's disapproval rating is now hitting 58%. that's the highest in three years according to an npr/pbs newshour marist poll. we turn to rachel scott for more on that. rachel, good morning. >> reporter: whit, good morning. at that task force briefing, the vice president tried to put a positive spin on the surge in cases saying the u.s. has made progress. but the nation's leading infectious disease expert dr. anthony fauci made a plea to americans asking them to wear a face mask, to continue to social distance and while the vice president did point to the rise in cases among young americans he also defended those large-scale campaign rallies and events. the president packing thousands of people into an arena in oklahoma and then thousands of young supporters inside of a church in arizona. no social distancing at either event. many of his supporters not wearing a mask and we are

after the announcement was made and, of course, if you're a kanye west fan, you probably know this isn't the first time that west had ties with gap. he actually worked in a gap store as a teen growing up in chicago. he raps about it on the song song "spaceship" on his debut album "college dropout." that line is expected to launch early next year. so that's some exciting news. all right, meanwhile, margot robbie is setting sail. the star is set to lead a new female fronted "pirates of the caribbean" movie. that would be written by christina hodson. she's the screenwriter on robbie's "birds of prey" and while the story is familiar, this isn't intended to be a t most lucrative of all time. rather, it's a separate story with entirely new characters, so we will be on the lookout to see who is cast next in that. okay, this one, one delaware amazon worker is delivering a whole bunch of laughs with her

>> here's a magic trick. pull out your phone. >> thanks, janai. now to our "gma" cover story. after one woman struggled with infertility, her 51-year-old mom stepped in to be her surrogate. take a look. brianna and aaron lockwood are expecting their first child, a baby girl in november. [ laughter ] but their journey to become parents has been anything but typical. the baby is being carried by a surrogate, brianna's mom. >> there's not a safer place i could imagine my baby to grow than my own body than my mom who is, you know, by my side through all of this. >> reporter: for more than two years, the lockwoods struggled to conceive seeing fertility specialists, undergoing multiple rounds of ivf, but after several miscarriages, their doctor finally suggested surrogacy. it was brianna's mom, 51-year-old julie loving, who volunteered to be their surrogate. >> i had really easy pregnancies with my two kids, and i feel pretty healthy for a

51-year-old. >> reporter: the lockwoods were skeptical, so was their fertility doctor. >> at first i wasn't really sure. she approached me multiple times about carrying our child, and i had kind of just told her no over and over. i didn't think it was possible. >> reporter: but loving was cleared to carry the pregnancy after being examined by several specialists. including an high-risk obstetrician and psychologist. in february their first embryo transfer attempt was a success. >> we had so much trauma in the past with our losses and struggling with infertility that, you know, my mom's almost 20 weeks now, and i'm just starting to let my guard down. be to see breanna excited. and aaron become parents, that e st.and we a now by our abc wshi medical corrpodetails on this r

story. dr. jen, first i think we need to talk about what are the risks when a woman in her 50s is a surrogate? >> well, i'm still emotionally choked up just watching that story, eva. i mean, listen, right now i think there are 50-year-olds who are as healthy or even healthier than some 30-year-olds. but 50 is still 50 and so along with that does go some obstetric risks for the mom and baby so they're at increased risk of diabetes during pregnancy, high blood pressure, there's an increase risk of miscarriage and c-section, and there can also be problems with the placenta but, again, with high risk ob management or involved closer follow-up, it can be done, absolutely. >> and hearing their story, it's a reminder there are so many women struggling with infertility. what are some other options for women out there? >> well, i think it's important to get proactive and shift that

paradigm from infertility to fertility, so think about it in your 20s, even though you might not want to become a parent until much later, we have to remember that it affects both parts of the couple, not just the woman who is trying to get pregnant. and then i always remind people, there are multiple paths to becoming a parent that sometimes may include something like surrogacy, but it could also include a adoption or foster parenting and, eva, sometimes the biology is actually the least of what makes someone a parent. >> so very true. dr. jen, thank you so much for being with us this morning. let's get a check of our b.ather now and turn it over t >> heyeva, good morning again. i taedbo t dust across parts of the south. that coupled with some heat in florida, 99 degrees yesterday in tampa. that's an all-time record high and temperatures today will be similar. with humidity, of course, it will feel like up and over 100 in sarasota, 102 in ft. myers and 99 in west palm beach.

restrictions as critics say those states may have re-opened the economy too fast. some major changes are coming to facebook as we head into election 2020. ceo mark zuckerberg announcing the social media giant will ban posts that make any attempt at voter suppression or contain false claims about voting. facebook will also place warning labels on posts when they violate the rules but are still considered to be newsworthy. and great news for bachelor nation. >> it's called research, dan. >> this part is the cup. anyway, now that we're into a -- a week into summer, it's time for frozen treats. dietitian and nutritionist maya feller is going to show us guilt-free summer desserts that you can make at home. maya, good morning to you. first up you'll show us how to make something called almond nice cream. what do you need to get started? >> that's right, dan. so your base ingredients will be frozen bananas, unsweetened almond milk, almond butter and cashew yogurt, and you can also use an extract of choice. here i have orange, but you can use almond or vanilla. >> that's amazing. we've been eating all these. how easy is this to make right now? >> super easy. you literally toss everything into your blender, blend it up on high, blitz it hard, and then you put it into the freezer for two hours and it's ready to go. it's going to come out looking just like this. what i've done is i've dressed it with a little bit of berries and i cut some mint up and put

it on the top just so that it looks pretty and a little dash of color. >> well, i can tell you it's delicious as i'm literally spilling on myself here already. next up, though, you have another crowd pleaser for us, chocolate de-lite. what ingredients do we need to have on hand to make this? >> so for your chocolate de-lite, you need chocolate. you melt it into a double boiler. you also need eggs, both the yolk and the white, and coconut cream. i actually didn't have full fat coconut so i used regular light and then i added a filler in. i mixed everything together, super simple. >> it's incredibly good. we have our sample here. walk us through how to make it. >> so what i did was i melted the chocolate in the double boiler on my stove, and i made it just from two pots, right? nothing fancy. i added the egg yolk into the chocolate as well as a tiny bit of sugar. then i folded my egg whites into it along with the coconut cream. i put everything into the fridge

year before but once we finish a puzzle what do you do with it? the crafty lumberjacks dennis and andrew are here to help. welcome to both of you. so you finish the puzzle. what comes next? >> yeah, not everyone does a puzzle right away. this is a great way to upcycle the puzzle pieces, especially the ones that are missing pieces. >> okay, so our amazing art team at "gma" has already gotten in on the fun and i mean i'm pretty impressed by what they were able to do. kind of walk us through these ideas. >> yeah, you probably have them at home. all you need is a puzzle, a canvas and if you don't have a canvas frame, take an old frame or a piece of wood and some craft glue. what we did was, we got the size of the canvas and cut it out and then what we did was we glued them right on top. we filled them and layered them. super easy.
