stunned. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard joins us live in oakland with more on this story. cornell. >> reporter: dion, on a weekend when many of us should be celebrating our pride, folks here at oakland's lgbtq community center are just not feeling it after someone broke the windows this morning. they vow to move past this. meantime others are getting used to pride celebrations gone virtual. >> i'm just speechless. >> reporter: it's not what joe hawkins was expecting this pride weekend. >> they crashed that window, broke these completely out. >> reporter: most of the windows in oakland's lgbtq community center smashed on saturday morning. joe co-founded the center three years ago. >> we're supposed to be celebrating our empowerment and our community as queer people, that we wake up to finding that people are bashing our building and breaking our windows because

of their own hate. >> swinging hard, as hard as he could and he was angry. >> reporter: cauosmos saw a you man breaking the windows with a golf club. cosmos started yelling. >> stop, stop, stop, as loud as i could. then he saw me. >> reporter: he said the man took off on a bike. joe hawkins was the first to carry the pink torch for this year's pride weekend relay culminating in san francisco and escorted by mayor libby schaaf who says she's ou by t vandalism. >> and i am furious that anyone would find it appropriate to commit that kind of act on any building, but particularly this sanctuary. >> reporter: san francisco pride celebrations have gone virtual, due to covid-19, and many say the castro district has lost its party spirit this year. >> because it's supposed to be pink saturday today. it's nothing near to a pink

facebook group. four officers are now on leave as the city investigates those incidents. we spoke to the mayor this afternoon and he told abc 7 news he has spoken to the police chief. >> he's furious, as i am. he wants to get rid of any officers who are directly involved in this kind of racist kind of conduct. and i expect he's going to fire any officers directly involved. >> reporter: he is calling for reform to allow san jose to deal with this kind of misconduct. >> 37 police departments learned that more than 450 police officers who had been fired by their chiefs for severe and extreme conduct like this had been reinstated by unaccountable arbitrators. this has got to change, not just here in san jose but in every police department in this country. >> reporter: liccardo says the incidents date back to 2010 and it's not clear what, if any,

action could be taken against officers who have retired. the state of mississippi is considering a bill to remove the confederate emblem from the state flag. today the mississippi state house voted to suspend house rules to allow for the introduction of the bill. tomorrow the house will take up the bill itself and will likely vote to remove the flag. after that the senate needs to vote before it arrives on the governor's desk. that flag has been around since 1984 and is the last u.s. flag to feature the confederate battle emblem. now to the latest on the coronavirus pandemic. new numbers released today from the state. the department of public health reports another covid-19 jump, 206,433 days yesterday. the governor is pushing for imperial county to reimpose a stay-at-home order. they have the highest rate per capita of positive cases. san francisco's mayor rolled back planned openings on mondays

of several businesses, including hair salons, nail salons and outdoor bars. marin county put reopening on hold for hotels, gyms and personal services, including tattoo shops and nail salons. indoor dining, hair salons and campgrounds can reopen. nationwide some states are struggling to contain a rapid rise in covid-19 cases, while two states seem to have the situation under control. abc news reporter corina mitchell has details. >> reporter: as the u.s. marks a new daily record, 11 states are pausing their reopening plans. florida, particularly hard hit, seeing an increase friday of more than 9,000 cases in a single day. governor ron desantis trying to downplay the spike, not mandating masks statewide. >> and we're going to trust people to make good decisions. >> reporter: still floridians out of luck if they want to visit a bar, the governor now shutting them down again. in texas, a similar situation. governor greg abbott in an interview with the abc station in el paso admitting in

hindsight the state reopened too quickly. >> bars is a type of setting that's not made for a pandemic. >> reporter: restaurant capacity is now being scaled back and elective surgeries suspended as hospitalizations surge. icu units at capacity. >> seeing people die because of it and i'll be honest, i'm scared to death. >> this virus is out of control in houston. if we don't act to get it under control, very bad, extremely bad things will happen. >> reporter: businesses getting hit -- >> you know, we were hoping it would turn around by may. but now that everything is going in the wrong direction, it doesn't look like we're going to be over thisny time tsthite house task fce over twomonths, ceresidentesident's rent in arizona with thousands of college students. >> and even in a health crisis, the american people don't forfeit our constitutional rights. >> reporter: dr. anthony fauci instead delivering a wake-up call saying more people will die.

>> if we want to end this outbreak, we've got to realize that we are part of the process. >> reporter: meanwhile in new york and new jersey, confirmed cases continue to subside. new jersey announcing plans to reopen schools this fall and new york city on track for phase three reopening july 6th, karina mitchell, abc news, new york. new developments, state officials have halted a scheduled transfer of at least 100 inmates from san quentin to another prison after two of the men tested positive for covid-19. right now san quentin has about 500 mates who have tested positive for covid-19. the virus has also sickened dozens of staff members. during an online discussion on the subject this afternoon, one former inmate worried about off-duty guards and other san quentin workers who could unknowingly spread the disease to people in marin county and beyond. >> as soon as you come off work, you take off your little jumpsuit, maybe stop at a gas station, maybe stop at the local

break news now. fire crews have contained a brush fire burning in solano county within the last hour. the parish fire was reported pnortheast of benicia near noon

grizzly bay. cal fire reports the fire grew to around 6 acres with a 5-acre spot fire across interstate 680. at one point aircraft had to be grounded because of a drone flying in the area. the fire slowed down traffic along 680 for more than an hour. all evacuation orders have now been lifted. say so long to social distancing and the empty middle seat on at least three airlines. american airlines says it is going to start booking flights at full capacity next week, joining united. american says it will notify passengers when a flight is full and allow them to rebook at no cost. the change is getting a mixed reaction from travelers. >> i do think it's going to get worse again so a little concerning to me. >> i don't have a problem with the middle seat. i feel like they're probably going to have to because the flights are picking up. >> united and spirit airlines are already booking flights to capacity. jetblue is blocking middle seats and some aisle seats through the

end of july. delta and southwest say they are still blocking middle seats through the end of september. airlines are moving forward with a contact tracing plan for passengers. following a meeting yesterday with vice president mike pence, airline executives got the go ahead to use a third-party app and website to keep track of all of their passengers. the airlines were reluctant at first to meet the government's demand of collecting passenger information and hand it over to public health officials whenever it's requested. las vegas is open for business again and some of the performers who dazzle on the strip have helped fight showir a oersed las s to tralers arriving aarran international airport. you're looking at a new act for these performers in video. masks are required in las vegas. french cosmetics giant l'oréal said today it will remove words like "whitening"

from its skin care products. the company released a statement saying it decided to eliminate the words "white" and "whitening," "fair" and "fairness" from all of its products designed to even skin tone. it follows a similar move by unilever. l'oréal has recently faced accusations of racism. change is coming to the hit tv show "the simpsons." they will still have the familiar characters of bart, homer, marge, lisa but going forward white actors will no longer voice black characters. earlier this year azaria announced he would stop voicing the character. the show will recast the voice actors. >> i appreciate your attempt at that last name. we all know apu. >> we all know apu. i could have just stopped there. >> i know. well, just ahead, a local group of new high school grads got to cheer on their classmates

in the south bay, two groups met up in san jose to launch a convoy to help farm workers. volunteers drove food and household cleaning supplies to gilroy so those items could be delivered to deserving families. los altos high school celebrated their 2020 graduates today using a drive-in. check it out. abc 7 was in san jose today where a series of graduation videos played on a big screen for dozens of families. the ceremony was held at the san jose earthquakes stadium, which the team donated for the event. the videos showed footage of graduating seniors as they collected diplomas in caps and

gowns earlier this month. mountain view high school's graduation ceremony is tomorrow. and it looked like pretty good weather, at least for them. so that's all they could ask for, nice sunshine and graduation. >> drew, what do you have to say? >> yeah, you know what, we'll find sunshine tomorrow but it does remain rather windy for our sunday. in fact we do have wind advisories in effect right now in parts of the bay area. live doppler 7 along with satellite currently showing you it is pretty foggy as you get close to the coast. right now emeryville pointed toward san francisco, a live look. we've got a lot of cloud cover right now. that marine layer was pretty stubborn to clear away from the coast earlier today. right now we're dealing with pretty windy conditions in spots. look at fairfield, we are gusting to 36 miles per hour. 24 that current wind gust in novato. 20 right now that wind in san francisco. but the strongest winds currently are focused through the delta. we do have a wind advisory in effect right now for areas shaded in yellow. that does include vallejo,

fairfield and east toward rio vista. this lasting until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning because the winds will stay pretty active, gusting over 35 miles per hour at times that. could bring down some isolated trees and also cause some isolated power outages. those winds, since they are pretty strong right now and onshore, it's pretty cool this afternoon. it's only 70 in hayward, we're at 59 in the city. 77 in san ramon, 79 in san jose. it is hot. when you look at brentwood, the lone spot coming in at 95 degrees. overnight we do have a fair amount of cloud cover that we will retain around the coast. patchy fog along the shoreline. temperatures in the low to mid-50s over the next 12 hours. tomorrow the winds will continue and usher in cooler weather for the second half of the weekend, so high of only about 73 in fremont, 78 in san rafael. we'll hit 64 in the city, 81 in concord and antioch much cooler tomorrow with a high of only 82

degrees. it is a pretty windy day in spots tomorrow. in fact future tracker wind gusts showing you tomorrow evening, look along the coastline. we'll likely find wind gusts of 30 miles per hour. then it will shift into the north bay and solano county for those offshore winds developing, gusting over 20 miles per hour. so we do have a red flag warning in effect for northern solano county and points in the sacramento valley starting at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. our vegetation is dry so we'll be on the watch for any new fires to potentially start. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. cooler. there are the winds in the north bay early monday morning. otherwise the stretch of pretty sunny days, a steady pattern, no intense heat. the early call for the fourth of july, yeah, we'll have fog around for the fireworks. we'll keep our eye on that next saturday, guys. >> sounds good, drew, thanks. >> how about sports.
