weeks. many local governments are already tightening restrictions ahead of the fourth of july holiday. los angeles which is the nation's most populous county is closing beaches and banning fireworks this weekend. >> begin to toggle back on the stay-at-home order. if you won't stay home, and you are not going to wear masks in public, we have to enforce. >> governor newsom said that they will look at current stay at home oig orders and the relationship of indoor versus outdoor activities. and he will make the announcements today at noon. we're getting an idea of what the upcoming school year could look like for k through 12 students and staff. santa clara health leaders released guidance. education is something of course that we're foe you canned here -- focused on. and the pressure is on to prepare for a possibility of a

return to the classroom. julian glover, what about this? >> yeah, first off the clara health officer dr. cody says there is no guarantee, but they have to be prepared. so they are laying out the framework. and it really depends on the grade your student is in. the focus for elementary school students will be to worry less about keeping them apart and physically distancing and face coverings. instead, younger students would be kept to smaller cohorts. middle and high school students would be faced out and required to wear masks at all times as teachers would too. parents would be asked to stay inside their cars when possible during drop off and pick up. >> it is up to us to do everything possible to suppress the levels. the better that we do that, the more sure we can be that schools

and most classes will go virtual.you it calls for a stagd school year. and most classes will go virtual. and there will be limited student housing because of social distancing. freshmen, sophomores and transfer students can live on campus but only during the fall and summer. juniors and seniors can apply for housing during winter or spring. and that leaves upper class men like cricket who is also blind out of luck for the fall unless she can get a special circumstance exemption. >> i don't have a place to stay right now. i've been sleeping on coaches. i've been trying to do what i can to have a place to stay. >> students at san jose state are also in a bind. administrators are still working on their plans for reopening. nationwide the numbers are alarming. the number of covid-19 cases in the united states has jumped by 80% in the last two week and dr. fauci says that the death toll

pausing or rolling back reopenings. and warning against large gatherings. it comes as new york, new jersey pand connecticut expand their quarantine list, now including visitors from california, georgia and 14 other states. airlines flying in to new york giving travelers from hot spots this form, asking them to self-quarantine for 14 days. and massachusetts is going even further than new york, new jersey and connecticut. it is now requiring any visitors from outside the northeast to quarantine. massachusetts just reported zero covid deaths for the first time since march. megan tevrizian, abc news, san diego. wear a mask or risk getting banned. that is a warning from alaska airlines. flight attendants will hand passengers this yellow card if they refuse to wear a face covering. if the warning is ignored, the person could be blocked from future flights.

here is kumasi with the latest news. and happening today, governor newsom is expected to tighten coronavirus restrictions in california after a 50% increase in confirmed cases in two weeks. he has already ordered bars in certain counties to reclose and more measures are likely on the way. lauren martinez has the details on this story. >> and he said if you are not going to stay at home and you are not going to wear a mask in public, they do have to enforce. and he will be making those announcements on increased enforcement today at noon with the holiday weekend coming up. governor newsom said one of the biggest areas of concern as it relates to the spread of covid-19 is family gatherings. it is not just bars and protesting, but specifically family gatherings. >> all of a sudden here comes uncle bob two hours late, he gives everyone a hug. and uncle bob, where is the mask? i don't believe in it. the whole thing starts to take

neighborhoods. and tonight 71 to 74. around the state, it is still hot in the central valley, look at that, 102 in palm springs. sierra will be warmer than l.a. and san diego today. look at these temperatures over the weekend, 77, 77, 78 and then 41, 41, 41. pretty quiet weather over tahoe for the holiday. and the former atlanta police officer charged with shooting and killing rayshard brooks is out of jail this morning. we know that garrett rolfe posted the half million dollar bond that judge granted yesterday. he got help coming up with the money from several police organizations. prosecutors had argued that he 14 should stay in jail for shooting and killing brooks. brooks fought with officers and took off with their taser.

he ran away from the area and was shot and killed. attorney for rolfe says that the former officer is not a threat to the community. the $500,000 bond comes with a curfew. he must also wear an ankle monitor. back to you guys. look at this, a carjacking suspect in custody after a high speed chase he led on down the santa cruz coast. it ended up hitting speeds of more than ur. and the car went off of the cliff and ended up in the ocean. just really crazy to see all of this. somehow the driver managed to climb back up the cliff but police were there waiting with their guns drawn. the vehicle ended up submerged in the water. the california highway pa

r patrol helicopter was also busy. four people had to be rescued after they got stranded on a cliff. video shows the chp flight officer being lowered down to rescue the victims. two kids, two adults were stranded and really needed help. the highway patrol says that they were clinging on to the cliff. one by one though the chp airlifted each to safety. and this is good news. uc berkeley researchers have started trials on a saliva test for covid-19. all you have to do is spit into a tube. of course that is far less invasive than the nasal swab. the samples are analyzed at a pop-up lab. results are available within five days. the tests will allow researchers to identify asymptomatic students and employees. >> we want to make sure that the students are not bringing more virus into our community. berkeley doesn't exist as just a university, we live in a local

trying to take advantage of the pandemic situation we're in by sending emails pretending to be the w.h.o. or the government. >> reporter: and by opening them or responding to them, it can provide access to a corporate network to steal or compromise data. a ransom demand might be made. they are using artificial intelligence to launch relentless attacks. >> they are automated and we're responding at a human scale which is slower. so if an attack happens 100 times a second and we can respond to one an hour, you can see why we're at a disadvantage. >> reporter: and they recommend remote workers should reset their wi-fi password. and separate work and home devices on different wi-fi networks. don't allow others to use work devices. and keep software updated with the latest security patches. and keep in mind all of your internet connected devices such as security cameras, video door bells and baby monitors could be

hacked too. david louie, abc 7 news. and now to making new friends. in this case foster kittens and dogs took part in a field trip to the zoo. they spent time with a hippo and made friends with a lion, and also the giraffes. officials say the field trips help the zoo animals with enrichment while raising awareness for pet adoption. >> i could watch that for much longer. i feel like the animals really see that these are perhaps like the cousins -- like their country cousins, you know? because that leopard looked like it was like are you my daughter?
