now we're back. >> if you used as much gel and hairspray as i do, you can do anything with your hair. let's talk about the weather. there are low clouds. it is 54 degrees. and here is your 12 hour planner. mid to upper 50s this morning. what you will notice is as we head into the afternoon hours, bay and inland temperatures will pull back a little exbit. and a big warming trend for the weekend, that is coming up. are and police in seattle are clearing the so-called c.h.o.p. zone. this is a neighborhood that has been occupied for weeks by protest ertz.

th you can see that officers there, it doesn't look like they are having a lot of interaction with the protesters, but they definitely have a strong presence in that area. the police department says that they were acting on an executive order from the mayor of seattle. the mayor's office says the city had to do something to address the violence in the area. c.h.o.p. stands for capitol hill organized protest. and we know that 13 people have been arrested. and of course we'll continue to watch this and monitor it and bring you updates. governor newsom is expected to make some major announcements today at 234507noon. he will reveal new enforcements about masks and tighter restrictions. and lauren martinez has more on this.

>> and the governor didn't indicate what type of changes may be in store ahead of the holiday weekend, but did say that additional restrictions are being considered. yesterday he said if you won't stay at home and you won't wear a mask in public, they have to enforce. the state has seen a 50% increase in confirmed infections over the past two week. >> we'll be looking at a lot of the current stay-at-home orders, rather start to look at the health orders and health directors in relationship to indoor versus outdoor activities. >> the state requires people to wear masks when they can't maintain 23physical distance, b public officials say lack of social distancing may have contributed to the surge that we're seeing. newsom plans to tirt tighten th up. we're getting an idea of what the upcoming school year could look like for k through 12

students and staff. santa clara public health leaders released detailed guidance. this morning the pressure is on to prepare for the possibility of a return to the classroom. and julian glover is live with more on that. >> exactly. they are trying to get ready just in case in-person instruction is a possibility for the fall. but right now dr. cody says that is up in the air. but they want to release a framework. and we have to be honest, it depends on what grade your student will be going into. the focus for elementary schools, worry less about keeping them apart physically and they would not have to wear face coverings. instead younger students may be kept in small cohorts that don't mix. and middle and high school students would be spaced out and

required to wear face masks. and parents are asked to stay in cars when possible during dropoff and pickup. >> it is up to us to adapt and suppress the levels. the better that we did that, the more sure we can be that schools can safely open. >> so what happens if a student or staff member tests positive? the entire cohort would likely be tested and possibly quarantined for two weeks. that is why the health officer is recommended assigned seating and assigned bathrooms. so what about extra cacurricula actives? choir, band and cheer, that is off-limits. anything that is loud and could kick off virus in the affaiir. and sports are still to be determined. the full guidelines are on the website abc7news.com.

and the coronavirus pandemic is forcing college students to take a 45hard look at their pla. stanford will stagger students through the school year. even though most are going virtual, there will be limited student housing. and they will split it up according to your year in school. so freshmen, sophomores and transfer students can live on campus during fall and summer quarters. juniors and seniors can apply for housing winter and spring. and that leaves those like cricket who is also blind out of luck. >> i don't have a place to stay befo . i've been sleeping on couches and doing what i can. >> students at san jose state are also in limbo. administrators are still working on their plans for reopening.

covid-19 cases could nearly triple. and that warning is coming from dr. fauci. he says a surging number of infections could looef the leave the health care system in dire condition. and some communities are without crucial real time information about the spread of the virus. he says that americans need to wear masks, socially distance and take urgent precautions. >> i would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around. >> 35 states are reporting big increases in infections. 17 are pausing or rolling blaei reopenings. and wear a mask or risk a ban. flight attendants will hand passengers this yellow card if they refuse to wear a face covering.

patients developed antibodies against the coronavirus but it caused fever and other side effects. they were not serious and did not require patients to be hospitalized. so the next step here, pfizer will conduct large studies of the vaccine to find out if patients are immune to the coronavirus and that would begin this summer. > governor newsom is expected to tighten coronavirus restrictions in california and this is after a 50% increase in confirmed cases in two weeks. he already ordered some bars to reclose and more measures are likely on the way. lauren martinez is live ins n t news room with details. >> the governor says if you are not going to stay at home and not going to wear a mask in public, they have to enforce. and he will be making those announcements on increased enforcement today at noon.
