an internal fema memo obtained by abc news says 26 arizona icus are at capacity and 13 hospitals have staffing shortages as the state now battles the highest number of new cases in the entire world. >> these patients are sicker than patients that we've seen and they're sicker in a different way. >> reporter: while in neighboring california, these surge tents constructed in el centro to take on the crush of patients -- >> we're having a war here on covid. >> reporter: in florida, the 11,400 new cases friday just shy of a record high. new york now sending the state a day's supply of the drug remdesivir to help care for patients. among those hit hardest, a south florida family losing a brother and sister, both in their early 20s. their deaths just 11 days apart. >> it's not a game. please wear your masks. we don't want them to just be another statistic. >> reporter: in texas, the state's logged three straight days near 100 deaths. >> the worst is yet to come as

we work our way through that massive increase in people testing positive. >> reporter: in mississippi this week, five of the state's biggest hospitals reporting they had zero icu beds available. >> many days in the last few weeks we have had more patients than we have had rooms. >> reporter: and this morning some new data from the cdc paints a grim picture for younger people of color. the death toll for hispanics and nonwhites who are under 65 is twice as high as it is for white people of the same age group. whit. >> certainly a troubling trend there. all right, trevor, thank you so much. we do want to turn now to the latest from washington, d.c. yesterday president trump commuting the sentence of longtime associate and political adviser roger stone. rachel scott is here with more on that. rachel, good morning. >> reporter: whit, good morning. yes, president trump declaring roger stone a free man. stone said the decision came in the nick of time just days before he was set to report to prison. a longtime adviser and ally to the president, stone was found guilty of lying to congress,

witness tampering and obstructing the house investigation into russian meddling in the 2016 election. he was sentenced to 40 months in prison, a sentence attorney general william barr called fair. but the president has repeatedly claimed stone was treated unfairly. the white house calling him a victim of the, quote, russia hoax. democrats quickly condemn this saying it undermines the rule of law. the move came as the president wrapped up a trip to florida. the state now fighting a rise in coronavirus cases. the president insisting the virus is under control and was not seen publicly wearing a mask. this weekend, though, his campaign plans brought to a halt. his rally in new hampshire scheduled for today was postponed. his campaign blaming bad weather. guys. >> thank you very much, rachel, really appreciate it. and coming up on the show, jada pinkett smith and will smith opening up about the relationship she had when the couple was separated. all the details in our "gma" cover story. and remember "the joy of painting?" bob ross' show is a hit in

help you stay out of trouble because i've got questions too, but we will move on. it is time for "pop news." and we start this morning with the big congratulations. jesse tyler ferguson is now a father. the "modern family" star announcing back in january that he and his husband were expecting their first child and throwing a star-studded baby shower in february, and now a rep confirming to "people" that the little one is here. in a statement saying jesse and justin welcome their little bundle of joy, beckett mercer ferguson mikita on july 7, 2020, and the parents are overjoyed and excited for this journey as a family of three. so happy for the whole family. > l right. now the pandemic, of course, has brought hollywood to a halt, but zendaya found a way to secretly film a movie simply by asking "euphoria" creator sam levinson and seeing if it was possible. it turns out it was.

zendaya tweeting, the first still from the movie with the title "malcom & marie," you see it there, teaming up with john david washington and "malcom & marie" is the first full feature length filmed in lockdown. it will echo oscar winning story "marriage story." they followed all safety precautions unions had in place like covid-19 testing, masks and casting crew quarantining for two weeks preproduction. they rehearsed six feet apart from each other and from june 17th to july 2nd, everyone stayed on location at the caterpillar house in california while filming. no word yet on a release date but obviously they took a lot of precautions to get that done. all right, so next bob ross' show "the joy of painting" is bringing new joy to a whole new generation of fans amidst the coronavirus pandemic. 25 years after his passing, bob ross' legacy is living on. his 30-season, 400-episode

hospitals pushed to their limits as coronavirus surges.seeingesef im o 67,000. some states and cities now rethinking and pausing their re-openings. jeffrey epstein's alleged co-conspirator ghislaine maxwell is asking to be released on bond. maxwell's attorneys arguing she be released on $5 million bond with gps monitoring saying due to covid if she stays behind bars her health will be at serious risk and it would keep her from participating in her defense. while in jail she's under constant monitoring wearing only paper clothes and no sheets on the bed. the hearing on her bond is scheduled for tuesday. and the search for the missing "glee" actress and mom naya rivera has now become a recovery mission as authorities in ventura county, california, say she is presumed to have drowned. new footage shows teams using sonar and robotic devices in their search through murky water at lake piru which is north of los angeles. authorities say there are no signs here of foul play.

"say yes to the dress" is finally back on tlc, the first of two new episodes. it will be a quarantine special before returning to the kleinfeld home base, that's tonight 8:00 p.m. on tlc, and then be sure to check out "family or fiance" on the oprah winfrey network. they're back for another season to help newly engaged couples navigate family drama. get the popcorn but also get the tissues. i was bawling, honest to god, as i caught up from last season watching a couple go through therapy and issues.

we're back with a healthy how to. certain fruits and veggies are in season for summer so dietitian and nutritionist maya feller is breaking down the best produce to buy right now. thanks so much for being with us this morning, maya. first, what should we know when shopping for leafy greens? >> good morning, eva. so when you're shopping for leafy greens, recently i've been getting so many in my farm box, kale is super abundant right now because it's the peak of the growing season. cabbage pairs so well with kale in the summer months, it's got this great crunch and doesn't wilt. >> good tip. are there other veggies we should be trying right now? >> definitely. cucumbers are bursting from the seams. also zucchini, super abundant so they're super affordable right now. i made this incredible seasonal salad of kale and cabbage. if you want to get fancy you can put some cucumber on zucchini on it, also, olives or fate that. >> that looks really good.

i see some fruit there on the table. do you have tips as far as fruit goes? >> definitely. so berries in season right now. specifically the blueberries and the blackberries. they're peaking right now. strawberries, they peaked last month so you'll want to focus on those. when you're thinking about other fruits, things like peaches, fantastic right now. pomegranates will come later in the season. so will tomatoes. so interestingly enough, corn, delicious, delicious, delicious right now. look at this incredible salad that i made with corn salsa. it's got tomato, mango, peach, a little bit of cilantro, onion, jalapeno, i mean the sky is the limit. so delicious. >> and that's not your average looking salad, boring salad with the boring dressing. that's so delicious looking. you look beautiful this morning. i love your summer outfit. >> oh, my gosh. thank you. i'm coming to you live and direct from my backyard in brooklyn. >> love it. love it, thanks so much, maya. >> so thrilled to be here. >> turn it over to rob.

>> you're a vegan guru now. i went vegan about two years ago, and i messed myself up in an uncountable number of ways. so, what's your advice for beginners? >> well, definitely transition. for a lot of people this is a totally radical change, so start to implement more vegan meals into your life every day, every week, every month, and over time you'll crowd out those nonvegan foods. >> i found eating oreos and white bread wasn't good. speaking of how to diversify one's diet, you've got three superfoods you want to tell us about. what are they? >> yeah, so first off, of course, our sweet potatoes, my favorite food. sweet potatoes are a wonderful source of vitamin a, vitamin c and a great anti-inflammatory but, of course, they're also full of fiber and so many things you can do with them. second is walnuts. i think walnuts are kind of overlooked for their versatility. they are a super great source of
