part of the effort to build a better bay area. tonight's protest started about two hours ago. protestors headed from the superior court to the water front. it's very hot out now. over 90 degrees. we're live in martinez and run down how things have been so far. >> despite the extreme heat, it's been calm and mostly peaceful here. the demonstrations started an hour ago at the courthouse. moved to water front. several hundred now talking and giving speeches. earlier there was a brief with a counter protestor. >> a crowd of demonstrators on the move through downtown. this black lives matter march sparked by this incident last weekend. two residents painting over a black lives matter mural on

sparked a grass fire that raced up a hillside. firefighters responded to vista oaks and douglas drive about 1:00. flames burned towards a homeless encampment nearby and homes were briefly threatened. the homeowner said he was trying to create defensible space. >> a socially distanced block party held today for a man shot by the police last month. the party to remember the 23 year-old was held in san francisco. near holly park. there was music, food and literature readings. he was a san francisco resident. shot kp killed by police responding for reports of looting at a walgreens the night of june 2. police later found a hammer. but no gun. >> the bay area tech ceo caught on camera going off on a racist tirade at a restaurant is no longer employed.

heat pump. it brought record heat to many cities in the desert southwest. we saw numerous areas in the central valley exceed 105 earlier. changes are coming in the form of an area of low pressure. that's going to help to suppress the heat to the south. bring in cooler weather and bring back fog later tonight. we'll see numbers slowly fall into low 50s. and low 60s. again like last night, in the hills of the east bay and north bay we'll see a few cities hold in the low 70s. as we transition to the cooler air tomorrow. the patchy fog after midnight along the coast. with a shallow marine layer developing. we'll have the fog sticking to the coast throughout the entire day. and we'll see the cooler afternoon settling in. low 90s seems weird to say cooler. today we exceeded 100.
