student athletes have now tested positive for covid-19. health one of the areas that abc 7 news is focused on in our effort to build a better bay area. and julian glover is live with what we know. obviously a big concern. >> reporter: yeah, a big concern for the student athletes out there. it is pretty hard to imagine that sports could go off -- happen, rather, in the fall when we're getting news like this. eight uc berkeley student athletes testing positive for the coronavirus. we don't know which sports they are involved with just yet, but so far 125 of the s athletes have returned to campus in preparation for voluntary outdoor conditioning workouts.e green light to allow the outdoor practices a month ago. and an order allows groups of 12 to weight train outdoors.

stanford has already canceled 11 port sports for the fall. >> and i'm a big sports guy, i would like to see it. but at the same time, you have to make sure that these athletes are safe, the people that possibly could attend are going to be safe. >> reporter: the "usa today" is reporting that student-athletes on 50 college campuses across the u.s. have now tested positive for the coronavirus. and in reference to this story, the uc berkeley story specifically, analysts and executives, they are kind of questioning whether football in particular could happen at all this fall. julian glover, abc 7 news. the governor is expected to make an announcement today on whether schools can reopen in the fall. until now, the decisions have been up to the local school districts. it is not yet clear if the

of an unarmed black man will be arraigned in court today. greg mcmichael and travis mcmichael are accused of shoot willing and killing ahmaud arbery in february. the men say they thought arbery was a person who committed several break-ins in their neighborhood. all three will be formally charged and each is expected to enter a plea. they were arrested more than 730 days after the shooting when cellphone video went viral.0 days after the shooting when cellphone video went viral. and today sentencing will take place for john lee cowl. he faces a life sentence for the murder of nia wilson. this follows a jury also finding that he was sane when he stabbed the 18-year-old and her sister.

80s inland, 70s around the bay and 60s along the coast into san francisco. developing news now, we're keeping an eye on the wildfire burning authority of vacaville. this fire started around 9:00 p.m. last night. at last check, it is burning around 10 acres. and another fire burned in that same area last month and we'll give you more information when we get it. and a fire in the altamont area is 60% contained. this is th hollow fire. helicopters and two charge air tankers were called in to help with that fight. and new this morning, the napa valley unified school district is approving online only start to the 2020/2021 school year. the school board came to a unanimous decision.
