results. >> a bay area man says he's trying to do the right thing but has waited more than a week for covid-19 test results. the drastic measures he's now taking to get some answers. good evening to thanks for joining us. i'm dion lim. >> i'm eric thomas. we begin with the latest coronavirus headlines. more than 9,000 new cases reported in california today and officials say the positivity rate is trending upwards over a 14-day average. that's a key indicator of community spread. in the bay area there were at least 39,594 cases and 691 deaths. that count does not include san quentin prison which has 967 active cases. that's down from yesterday. the only bay area county not on the state's watch list is san mateo. san francisco's malls and nonessential offices must be shutdown by monday. now to those testing frustrations. a bay area man is flying out to idaho where his wife says he can get tested for covid-19 quicker

and get his results back faster. abc 7 news reporter lauren martinez spoke with the couple tonight. she joins us live from the newsroom with details, and talk about drastic measures, lauren. >> yes, dion, very drastic. brian dublin worked in richmond -- i'm sorry, lives in richmond but worked in san rafael. he says he's experienced symptoms on and off but the process to get results has taken too long. now his wife who works for an airline company is flying him out to idaho for three hours just to get tested. >> this is too much. i'm flying you out here tomorrow. you're going to take the test and you can fly home same day. >> reporter: tiffany valentine lives outside boise, idaho. she booked h husba bho lives in fight out to idaho sunday morning so he could get tested for covid-19. >> it's easier for me to go in the morning and take a test and drive through and i'll get the results in a couple of days. >> reporter: he's been tested

once in the bay area. he says it took him ten days to book his appointment in san rafael through marin county and eight days for his results to come in. but now the couple says they can't even access those results online. >> put his last name in and birth date, it came up we can't even find you. >> reporter: valentine says in idaho there's pop up testing tents within every few miles. she's taken the test three times so far. >> it's been about two, three days from my experience to get the results back. in california it's just -- it's not that way. >> reporter: we asked the couple could brian be exposing others while traveling if he does have the virus? >> working for airli's ofhe que have you had a fever, have you been exposed to anyone with covid-19 in the past week. those kind of things. his answers would be no just like everybody else. >> i feel like i'm taking a risk definitely but we're taking a risk every day that we can't get an appointment and whether we can get a test and can't get

results. >> reporter: the couple admits they are taking dramatic measures to get brian tested but they need to know. >> i just want the results. i just want to know whether, you know, a positive or a negative. >> reporter: tonight dr. matthew willis the former health officer for marin county health and human services released this statement about getting test results back. quote, we have no control over that process. it has to do with private labs and their ability to obtain the reagents in order to process the samples. i agree it's incredibly frustrating for us as well. in the newsroom lauren martinez, abc 7 news. >> all right, lauren, thank you. as part of our coronavirus coverage we're focused on businesses after a push from a lot of salon owners the state will allow some services to be performed outdoors. the california business consumer services and housing agency tweeted last night that it will soon release updated information on how salons can safely offer some personal care services

outdoors. a couple of days ago salon owners and state assemblyman jim patterson asked the governor to temporarily waive a state law that prevented outdoor services. we put together a search and compiled a calculator that showed how risky certain scenarios are with coronavirus whether it's going to school, an outdoor restaurant or a playidate you'll find it on abc7news.com. two people including a child were rushed to a hospital after a fire at a duplex in daly city. firefighters say this case is a good reminder of the importance of smoke detecters. >> reporter: facing a wall of smoke firefighters forced their way into the first floor of this duplex. >> we were called to a report of smoke in the building. the first company found the building charred with smoke and they forced entry. >> reporter: inside the daly city home firefighters found an unconscious adult and a child

inside a bedroom. >> there were two victims found inside the house, and both were transported to the local hospital in critical condition. >> reporter: according to neighbors it was a father and his child. did you know the kids? have you seen them out here? >> that's why we were shocked because we see those kids riding their bikes sometimes out here. >> reporter: crews battled the flames erupting from the small kitchen. >> it appears smoke detecters may have played a role in this, delayed detection. >> reporter: firefighters remained on scene over four hours preventing a broader spread while the smoke and sirens woke up many in this neighborhood. >> it's devastating. it's really devastating. it's sad and especially to think that the alarms weren't working. >> reporter: this fire remains under investigation and firefighters emphasized the importance of having working smoke detecters. in daly city, luce pena, abc 7

this video is from one of last weeks incidents. hill bombs are unsanctioned events that draw large crowds to see skateboarders go as fast as they can downhills. tomblin says he's consulting with leaders about building stronger skate culture and codesigning skate streets in the city. a 12-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital after he was impaled while climbing over a fence to get to a swimming pool. the police rescued the boy at deer valley high school. some pools in the county are still closed because of the coronavirus and this is not the first time the school has dealt with this. >> according to the staff there at the school they've been having some issues with some kids that are climbing over the fence and getting into the swimming pool and swimming during these times. >> pools are allowed to reopen in the county but some public ones remain closed. new at 11:00 now a new bride who already had to postpone and

drew. >> yeah, and what we're finding tonight is the fog is rolling back in, guys, and we'll actually track some cooler weather moving in over the next couple of days. live doppler 7 along with satellite tonight showing you that cloud cover right up along our coastline this evening. our marine layer is expanding as we speak, and we do expect that fog to move in and around the bay while we're sleeping tonight and wake up to some gray skies first thing tomorrow morning. we've been tracking our air quality this weekend because we're monitoring the mineral fire in fresno county and some of that smoke has drifted into the bay area. you probably notice some hazy sunshine during the day today and also yesterday. that will continue tomorrow, so there's an air quality advisory in effect for that smoke. we will find moderate air quality especially in the santa clara valley and along the coast, so that's something we're monitoring but nonetheless we will find fresher air moving in early next week. winds right now they're pretty

light in most spots but oakland is gusting at 21 miles per hour. it's 13 right now in san francisco. just a light wind in hayward coming in at 7 miles per hour. so numbers right now we're mainly in the 50s and 60s with a couple of locations still pretty mild away from the coast. you can see ukaya right now at 72, 62 is that current temperature in oakland mo. santa rosa about 56 degrees. so tonight we will watch that fog roll back in, very summer like pattern so we'll find our numbers dropping into the low if not mid-50s overnight for most of us. we'll time out that marine layer. hour by hour we go waking up early tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. you can see that marine layer right overhead for a lot of us. but it looks like it pulls back away to the coast pretty quickly tomorrow morning. so you expect sunshine pretty fast. we had that morning cloud cover and the sfroafternoon will be a

a better bay area include focusing on issues of race and social justice. today vendors and business owners in vallejo were urged to protest and promote the city at the same time. organizers called it a merch march. local businesses and vendors setup in front of city hall. many were selling black lives matter shirts and others were calling for defunding vallejo police. organizers also setup a voter registration booth. in the east bay a display of art and activism at a popular event in oakland this afternoon condemning police brutality and systemic racism. abc 7 was inside the gallery where an artist showcased his work titled my skin is not a crime. the center piece features an airbrushed casket with the writing reflecting the thoughts of the community. drake says he was inspired by george floyd's daughter. >> his daughter mentioned her dad changed the world. it resonated with me.

i wanted to do what i could and do my part in what i could to chan t world. i used my heart as my attempt to make change. >> the uncle of oscar grant who was killed by park police on new year's day in 2009 also shared his story. trader joes is in the process of rebranding products that some have called racist. there's now on online petition for the grocery chain to get rid of names. a trader joe's spokesperson says the chain made the decision several years ago to use only the trader joe's name and has been updating older labels. a spokesperson says the naming may have been rooted in a lighthearted attempt in inclusiveness but the chain recognizes it may now have an opposite effect. tomorrow is aids walk san francisco. even though the event is virtual this year walk organizes say they had no problem getting the stars to step up and participate. this past week on midday live

if you've been to a grocery store recently you know the cost of food is going up. meat prices overall are increasing. that includes bacon, hot dogs and beef. also on the rise coffee, cereal and carbonated drinks. ouv the prices for apples, sugar are on the down swing. shoppers inside community foods market on san pablo avenue can agree they're paying more for food although they may differ which items are seeing the

spikes. >> pork like spareribs has yrked. dairy i think. >> turns out they're both right. >> we've seen price fluctuations in meat anywhere from 10% to 30% increase in price. and in some cases a nonavailability entirely for a sustained period of time. >> justin, coo of golden gate meat company says california wholesale wholesalers who were able to source from smaller family owned companies saw less price volatility and so did consumers but wholesalers who rely on restaurant sales are really suffering. >> our business is probably down about 60% which is a huge hit compared to what we were four months ago. >> reporter: and it's not just meat prices. eggs and dairy are seeing big spikes in price as well. >> egg pricing for april through may in particular went up substantially, 56% on some egg items. >> reporter: this shopper gauges prices on what she pays per bag

for groceries. >> you notice the number of bags are getting smaller and smaller and things are getting more expensive. >> reporter: grocers say their prices have come down from may and june, but that can change from week to week. their advice is keep an eye out online and weekly fliers for sales. new restrictions have bars in new york state getting creative in order to stay open and keep pouring drinks. they aren't allowed to serve alcohol unless they offer food. this is all part of governor andrew cuomo's effort to crack down on crowding. also whatever is ordered must be enough to serve the entire party. so a piece of meat or a slice of cheese, that won't cut it. this has led to some pretty interesting menus. >> so we have nine french fries, we've got one two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine french fries. >> i appreciate him counting that out. another brewery was selling
